Location and service
In general everything.
Stairs and entryway looked as if needed cleaning.
Tunnelmallinen pubi ja majoitus. Aamiainen oli hyvä. Sijainti loistava, käytännössä keskustassa ja bussipysäkki 100 metrin päässä.
Sänky oli kova, samoin tyynyt. Ilmastointi puuttui.
Overall the public bar area, outside area and bedrooms were well presented and spotless. Great choice for breakfast all members of staff were polite and helpful. Great location. Parking in multi storey, which is just around the corner, cost us £13.90 for 24 hours. Very reasobable
Nothing to dislike really.
We really enjoyed our stay. Fab location, comfortable room and tasty breakfast.
Can't think of anything
Great location
Very overpriced for the fact that we didn’t get any sleep either night. The walls were so thin and we were just unlucky that the person next door both nights intermittently between 11:30 and 4:30 was going in and out of their room and slamming the doors. Also we locked ourselves out of the room and it took 30 minutes to get back in. The manager had to come in from home which was really kind of him and we appreciated this but surely there should just be some sort of master key. They also never asked for any ID to get back into our room which is a bit of a security issue. All in all good location and decent facilities but overpriced for the experience we had.
The location was excellent, very central. The staff were welcoming and friendly.
The bed was so hard, my husband and I hardly slept all night - you may as well have been sleeping on the floor with a blanket. We considered contacting somebody in the night but assumed all beds would be the same. So uncomfortable. For that reason we wouldn't recommend or stay at Pen and Parchment again.
Location was perfect for the theatre
Small room and the bathroom door didn't shut properly
Breakfast was lovely, staff very friendly and helpful, Location was fab, easy access to everything, shops, and pubs, lots of sightseeing,, nice to go on the sightseeing bus to see everything, interesting history of Stratford through the commentary on the bus
Excellent location and lovely staff.
Pillows need replacing and bathroom wasn't as clean as it should be.
The location was excellent, close to the centre of Stratford. Everything was on hand, accomodation, food, drink. Rooms were clean and comfortable, apart from the heat.
I was not told when booking about the steep steps up to the rooms. All my party are 75+ and found it difficult. The rooms were stifling hot. The windows would only open slightly and there was only one fan. Not enough staff on in the restaurant in the evening. Had a long wait for everything.
Great location, modern facility, good breakfast
The staircase was narrow. The shower was a bit confusing to use.
Świetna lokalizacja, kameralność, prosty dojazd. Bardzo wygodne łóżka, łazienka.
Location was excellent right next to the river & town center. Rooms were clean and comfy. Staff were helpful & friendly. Ate in the Pen & Parchment we had fish & chips and they were very good. The stairs up to the rooms are a bit tricky for people with mobility problems but the annex is fine. Nice place to stay.
The stairs.
Nice pub with very comfortable rooms, right opposite the RSC on the Avon.
Great location a stone's throw from the river and the centre of town. Lovely room with comfortable beds and spacious bathroom. Good choice of freshly cooked breakfast or continental breakfast. Easy check in and out.
Room was too hot but there was nothing could be done about that, it isn't the fault of the hotel. Two fans were provided.
The inn was located above a pub and the experience was very unique. Great location, located next to the river and town centre. The rooms were very clean and felt newly built. The staff members were super friendly and helpful! Would definitely stay again.
It’s less of a complain about the facility more of a travel timing thing. We stayed during an extreme heatwave, the deluxe room windows was only able to be opened a little making the room not very well ventilated even though outside is much cooler than the room. But they provided 2 fans in the room.
Great location. Very nice breakfast. Comfortable room.
It was extremely hot, not able to open window. Fans provided but didn't help much. It was a very uncomfortable night.
Lovely staff clean room very central location
No air conditioning the room was stifling . They did have fans but just seemed to create more hot air . Had to leave a day early on our 2night trip as couldn’t face another night sweating in room
I stayed for 3 nights and am so glad I chose Pen & Parchment. Every staff member was friendly and helpful (special shout out to RJ). My room was spacious, clean, comfortable and beautifully decorated. The location was excellent, only a few minutes walk from everything, especially the Royal Shakespeare Theatre which was the main reason I was visiting. The cost was really good value considering what a busy time it was and how much surrounding places cost. This would be my top choice of where to stay if I'm back in the area.
To get to my room in the main building, I had to go up a steep flight of stairs with an awkward door at the bottom, so it won't be accessible for everyone. The room got understandably hot in the heatwave; thankfully there were 2 fans that helped but I had to keep them on all the time I was there.
Was a good location
Getting to the room was quite unsafe. Stairs are really steep and narrow. And carrying luggage up was very scary.
Lovely room, had everything we needed, was in a great location.
Room was got quite hot, they did provide a fan tho which helped. The duvets were just a bit to heavy/thick for the weather we have atm.
Very good location near to everything in centre and RSC. Nice eating are outside and room nice.
Nothing.
Great location for the centre of Stratford - everything was a short walk away. We also managed to park in a nearby carpark just a 2 minute walk from the pub/hotel which was an added bonus. The room was clean, tea/coffee/biscuits and it was quiet at night once the pub had shut. Pub was nice inside and very pretty from the outside with all the flowers. Didn't eat there but the food smelt amazing.
However, it was very hot (as the weather has been everywhere recently) but there is no air-con, just one desk fan to plug in. The main gripe was that when we arrived to check in, we waited in the little alcove as the signs instructed, for about 10 minutes of staff and bar staff walking past and ignoring us, despite us ringing the bell and being very obviously waiting to check in. Whilst the bar was busy, it was the feeling of being purposefully ignored that was not pleasant. We only got attended to after a member of staff came to the bar with a tray of clean glasses to put away and said he would sort out getting someone to deal with us.
Great location, friendly staff and great breakfast.
Food was good staff good
Toilets absolutely stank weren’t cleaned worse then public toilets tables left with food an empty glasses on while sat there whole place needs a good clean
Location to experience Stratford was fine, but our 'VIP' room, was very noisy, direct sunlight, on the streetside so noisy, etc very inaccessible room, up some dirty stairs. Just not any focus on the accommodation experience, to be honest.
Very dirty in general, like no love or care for the place. Entrance to both room areas did not look like it had been cleaned in months.
Location, decor and dogs are accepted
The staff were unhelpful, the room was unclean especially the bathroom. There was no air conditioning or air flow. The room was so hot we could barely breathe. At 6am the bins were emptied right outside the window
Visited 4 years ago and the new refurb has made almost unrecognisable. Breakfast, location and food at night are all top class . Will definitely be going back .
Nothing negative to say
The proximity to the town. Nice food, lovely, helpfull and very friendly staff. Value for money. Comfortable bed.
Noise from the traffic, and delivery. But hay ho we were staying in a pub on the main street. Room was very warm, but we had fans and were offered more😃
all the facilities were very good, the only criticism is the the rooms were very hot due to the exceptional weather we have been having. The staff were excellent, and i will definitely visit the pen and parchment again.
everything was fine no problem
Good location, staff on the Saturday during the day were great
Room smelt strongly of dog. Staff member very full on during check in, friendly is good but this was to much for me personally.
Friendly and accommodating staff- very central to everything.
Stairs- my father is 77 , but it is an old building!
Very hot room. Tired and not super clean.
Window would not open Room was in a state of disrepair Shower didnt work Very very unhappy
Staff Excellent Breakfast Excellent Location Excellent
Great location! Really good hearty breakfast.. Rooms very clean and the staff are very attentive Good value all round 👏
Bed & pillows... really hard! Rooms can get very hot in high summer.
Location, location, location
Very Steep stairs to the rooms which didn’t seem to be mentioned in the booking process. (Perhaps it was it I don’t recall reading about it) Some elderly people really struggled. No air conditioning- we left a night early because it was soooo uncomfortably hot in the room (no8). Very little parking on site, room for four cars if you did a shuffle. Easy to be blocked in by deliveries. There is car park not too far away though. Breakfast wasn’t what we had expected. The continental choices were a bowl of fruit and those small boxed cereals. Toast was only available on the hot food menu. The food we had was good but there could have been more choice.
Location clean and staff helpful
Wasn’t made aware that they had a car park until we arrived having paid £14 for 24hrs in local car park I was told that parking was limited but it was virtually empty so could have parked there, I don’t know if there was a charge, but even if it was it would’ve been more convenient
rien
It was near everything
Nothing
The room was a good size with a good shower and comfortable bed.The food was very good with a lot of choice for breakfast.
Not the hotels fault but it was very hot and the windows don't open enough to let air in. The stairs where a little steep with high steps.
Nice pub, good size room and very clean, same for bathroom. Excellent position, near theatre and park near the river. Stratford is a really lovely town. The rail station is a 15 min walk through the centre of town.
Nothing
The location was fantastic, lovely 17th century building with a great beer garden
The room was very hot due to being in a mini heat wave. However, I recognise that as it’s a grade 2 listed building they probably wouldn’t be able to install air conditioning.
Cleanliness. Staff. Value for money. Very attentive & considerate to needs and requirements.
I suppose a constructive criticism would be that the rooms do not have air conditioning & our stay was during the heatwave !?!
Room was small but quaint - ideal for what we required.
Price Ha! Ha!
The location was great. The room was clean and we had everything that we needed.
The room got very warm at night and the fan was not adequate. Air conditioning or the ability to open more windows would have been helpful.
We love that Greene King are committed to being trailblazers for inclusion in hospitality.
Position.+ Lovely bathroom
The English breakfast was a little poor not very well cooked as wassome off the other meals the waiting staff very polite and the manager was very good too .
They have a problem in the kitchen either need 2 chefs or the chef needs more training it might be a case off it being so busy just trying to get the orders out shame because we liked the place
Room comfortable, well equipped. Good variety of food, reasonably priced.
Nothing
Comfort, staff, location all good.
Some lack of attention to detail. Wnlindow latch broke and unable to close tightly.Steps and outdoor area leading to room neglected and needed a sweep and general tidy up. This would have made a better first impression. The room needed cobwebbing and dusting particularly the light fitting also under and around furniture. The phone didn't work and lots of dust was on and around it when trying to use it. Just small things that can easlily be rectified, otherwise clean and comfortable.
Great staff, great location, comfortable room. Close to RSC. Close to a wide variety of places to eat.
Big room, great location, confortable and clean
Noisy zone
Stayed a number of times. Great location and very friendly staff. Great comfortable room. Good food and drink
Nothing
Location is great for the town centre and visiting the RSC theatre. Plenty of restaurants nearby. Staff were friendly and helpful.
We had the most uncomfortable bed I've ever been provided by a hotel - it was rock hard. Neither of us slept well, and both had back pain the next morning. No lie-in, we needed to get up and out. No staff asked how our stay was - nobody was on site to inform at the time. Also had black mold in the bathroom - no bleach has been used around the bath here! Bath tap not working; only able to fill the bath via the shower. And it was not a low-cost booking. This stay was spoiled by the bed and not good value for money.
Staff were really kind, a young lady was so helpful to us, she’s an asset to you. The food was fantastic, loved the inside and also the outside, really great atmosphere.
Tv remote switched tv on, would not switch tv off. Black mould around bath. Shower would not switch off properly, kept dripping, took 10 mins to realise it was incorrectly connected so had to turn dial off centre to stop water. Bath plug rammed in tight, hence bath filling up until shower was dealt with. Plug hole in sink was pressed in so tight, took two of us to open it. Disgusting sight when open. Wiring from room into bathroom not sealed correctly, that’s dangerous! One bathroom window was ‘painted’ shut, would not open. I love Greene King hotels, but this one was very sub-standard, I will not stay again.
Location, Food, Style, Decor.
Nice room. Good location. Good food. Friendly efficient staff.
Lack of information regarding car parking. Need to be clearer that there are potential onsite spaces on a first come basis.
All the staff were helpful and friendly
No parking on site, when I booked on line it said limited parking but then was told there was no parking
Perfect location.Free parking.Nice patio.
Very hard mattress . Very awkward stairs with door at bottom. Staff didn’t tell us the kitchen was closed ,we found out at 8.30 on Sunday evening and had to search for somewhere to eat. Staff not very friendly.
Fantastic very central location.
It happened to be quite hot weather. Although there was a fan, the room was quite warm.
The location was very good, the manager was very welcoming and helpful. Room was comfortable and a reasonable size. Bedclothes changed frequently. It was clean and tea and coffee was good to have.
The bedside light bulb didn't work and even after reporting it, it wasn't replaced. The shower controls (plastic knobs) were smashed and jagged and could not be turned, so the shower couldn't be used. Maintenance obviously not being handled well. No air-con.
Staff were lovely, accomosation really well positioned for visit to Rpyal Shakespeare theatre
Being upstairs in the annex. The stairs are quite difficult with a case. We should have been in the main building but due to an unfortunate mix up some one else was given our room. We agreed to swap just to get in our room and the staff did offer to get our original room back but it seemed a bit mean spirited to insist on turning out the ither people. We were given a free breakfast as compensation which was lovely and staff were lovely about it but the stars were a challenge!
The location was perfect for a theatre trip
Went during the heatwave so the rooms were hot, but this couldn’t be helped and the hotel did provide a fan
Lovely comfy bed, shower and toilet were spotless, room had everything we needed for our nights stay. Breakfast was excellent in lovely surroundings, staff lovely and very attentive.
Nothing to dislike.
Very central location (we came for the theatre). Very helpful and friendly staff member who booked us in. I slept really well so no noise problems for me. My daughter was more affected but not too much. Would stay again.
Maybe a fan each. It was very hot.
Clean ,great location
Loverly weather so customers outside in the front beer garden until 2am below our window
Location near to the theatres and distance from train station. Food was amazing, good value for money staff really friendly. Check in and check out easy. Room nice, with good facilities and away from main building so avoided too much noise. Lots of plug points in room which was good too.
Breakfast expensive if not included but check out before brunch finishes and can save at least £5 on breakfast. Nice fridge in room but was space so that would be nice and not all towels replaced when room cleaned. Also not enough tbags or milk so had to buy own. Also no air con - but there was a fan so that was ok.
Near theatre … Good food
Stairs to steep for me !
Excellent in all aspects. Perfect location by the canal with a short walk to the centre. The room was comfortable, spacious and clean. The food and drink all hit the spot, served by friendly and efficient staff. 2pm check in and 11am check out is a bonus. Great value for money. Would highly recommend.
Brilliant location excellent food and staff
Very winding staircase difficult to manage a lot of luggage but everything else makes up for this.
Friendly, helpful staff. Good breakfast. Great food served all day.
Fantastic location. Nice, big room. The staff were friendly.
The cleaning was a little hit and miss. The room opposite ours had been left with dirty linen and towels in the open doorway for nearly 24 hours. The staff explained they’d run out of hand towels so we had floor towels for the duration of our stay. Not too bad at all, nothing to put us off but a little more attention could have been paid to it.
Location
No soap in bathroom. No Wi-Fi. Perfunctory service
It’s age and location
The steep narrow staircase to our room Our room did have areas that hadn’t been dusted/ cleaned.
Well presented, Great location.
The beds were a bit hard!
Great location for getting around town, good food and beer, room was clean shower was good, beds clean and comfortable, quiet room, nice and warm, I would stay again.
I was expecting the rooms to be in the pub its self not in a separate building, the idea of the old school walking out the pub up to bed,
Convenient location, cosy and not too loud in evenings, even though it’s very popular spot
The room was very clean, up-to-date, and attractive with a beautiful bathroom. The restaurant is lovely. We were offered a selection of hot breakfast choices including a traditional English breakfast, plus a buffet with coffee, tea, cereal and pastries, all included with our room. The staff was very friendly and attentive and is in easy walking distance to the Theater and to Henley St. I really liked this hotel and would definitely recommend it.
The hotel does not have parking but there is a public car park just steps away. If you have difficulty carrying luggage, note that some of the rooms are up a flight of stairs with no elevator.
Chybí štětky na wc
Room fine - loved the shower. Was a bit surprised to find male clothing lwft by a previous visitor.
Access via v steep staircase. Glad I wasn't trying to manoeuvre a case up those.
Breakfast was good. I ended up ordering more than needed. Dinner on first night was only fair.
Stairs were extremely difficult to navigate.
Location
No fridge, tooth brush glass in the bathroom or toilet brush, cheap shower curtain and shower water temperature tepid!
We stayed at Pen and Parchment for 2 nights beginning May. Very happy with the room, staff and cleanliness. The pub / restaurant was also top notch. I would highly recommend anyone to consider this place for your stay in Stratford upon Avon. A (less than) 10 minute walk to all important sites in the town. John / Jen / Ottawa Canada
Breakfast was excellent, freshly cooked. Perfect location for the theatre. Staff were lovely.
Wifi a bit slow
Great location, lovely food and really good service by all the staff
Location was awesome, tidy, mega convenient
Nothing really
Good location Pub has good food
Beds were a bit hard
Location rooms very clean and the staff were very welcoming and friendly .
Nothing
The major plus of this hotel is the great central location, five minutes walk from restaurants and bars and the RSC theatre. Excellent breakfast. Friendly Staff. Nice room.
Window was an old sash window and provided no sound proffing from the noise of the city and allowed a draft to blow straight into the room. Also rattled in the wind (resolved by packing it with cardboard). Minor grumble as overall the room was great.
All good
I live Stratford and the location is fabulous, we have stayed here once before and stayed in the outer part of the hotel which was great
We stayed in the rooms within the hotel this time. Stairs were ridiculously narrow. Our room had adjoining doors to another room which was locked however the others thought it would be good to constantly try and knock the door and then 630 am in the morning at it again and very loud so not any where near as restful as we would of liked ended up checking out earlier than planned to go home
