Niggles really: Room was rather cool and it did not seem possible to increase the temp of the a/c above 18 C. The shower was good but the door was inadequately sealed so the bathroom floor became quite wet. The menu for half board dinner was disappointing

The breakfast eggs were scorched more like a mass production and boiled eggs were not available

Breakfast was terrible, most hot food containers empty, warm juices, limited options, very few tables as most weren’t getting cleaned…really let down a great room and stay

Perfect location, its called an express but honestly its the same as a normal holiday inn. It was clean, quiet, breakfast was great, all in all i would definitely return

The location was perfect

Booked two rooms one was booked as assessable for my sister who is wheelchair bound and was given two standard doubles. When we went to reception they argued that the room was assessable even though it wasn’t. After a long battle at reception they went up to check to confirm the room was not assessable. At one point one of the reception team rolled her eyes which upset my sister and offended us both.

La climatisation réglée sur 19 degrés et difficile à régler, malgré la notive explicative. Un sifflement/bourdonnement aigu dans la chambre 612 dès que quelqu'un dans la chambre voisine utilise la douche (j'ai signalé ce problème à la réception).

The room was modern and well laid out. It was situated in a good area to reach everywhere we wanted to go.

Shame breakfast doesnt end at 10:30 instead of 10am.

Very disappointing experience – would not recommend We booked a Standard Double Bed room through Booking.com, but when we arrived we were given a room with two single beds. When we questioned this, staff tried to tell us that “standard” meant the bed type was allocated on arrival, despite our booking clearly stating Standard Double Bed. It appeared that the hotel was overbooked and poorly managed, but rather than acknowledging this and resolving the issue, we spent nearly two hours trying to sort it out. We were repeatedly refused a refund, and instead of taking responsibility, the hotel blamed Booking.com. Eventually, after having to keep pushing the issue, we were moved to an accessible room with a double bed and accessible bathroom. While we appreciated finally getting a double bed, this wasn’t the standard double room we reasonably believed we had booked. Having to spend the first two hours of a hotel stay arguing over something as basic as receiving the room type we booked completely soured the experience. The overbooking was frustrating, but the poor management, lack of responsibility and way the situation was handled were far more disappointing than the original mistake itself. I would not stay here again.

booked a double room; checked in after 3pm -husband and i put into a twin bed room- tried to query with reception via phone - phone put down as was speaking - tried calling back twice- no answer - went downstairs - was told std room is either double or twin - advised was not given an option but when clearly checking in was with husband - then told no doubles left- am an IHG member - not advised of any IHG perks - just asked for membership number

Excellent location for the ICC/Symphony Hall, very close to restaurants. Lovely staff and good breakfast. I have stayed here in the past and was very happy to return

The room met our needs, and the shower was really large.

I found the staff quite rude on check in. When we complained that the air conditioning didn't work, they said someone would repair it, yet no one did.

Reception Staff were very friendly and prompt with our check in. The room was great and location perfect for our night out at the Birmingham Town Hall. Breakfast Staff were very helpful and the hot and cold Breakfast Buffet offered a good and varied choice.

Booked a double room but was given a twin. When I asked for the double room I’d booked I was told they were ‘minus 11’ double rooms so nothing could be done. Not impressed. I booked a double room for a reason, and it appears they routinely (11!) put people in rooms other than what they have booked. For this reason alone I will not be booking with them again.

Check in was fast and friendly. Location is great. Rooms clean and comfortable.

The breakfast can be on the cool side and the quality isn't the best. However, breakfast being included is fantastic.

Das Zimmer mit Dusche/ Bad war sauber und für den Zweck der Übernachtung ausreichend groß; die Lage des Hotels war gut an die öffentlichen Verkehrsmittel angeschlossen und das Stadtzentrum fußläufig gut erreichbar.

Das Frühstück war rudimentär ohne Wurst und Käse, optisch ansprechend, geschmacklich kein Highlight. Das Personal nett und aufmerksam; guter Kaffee 24 h/ frisch aus dem Vollautomaten (etwas sehr Gutes).

De ligging is perfect! Tien minuten lopen vanaf het station en nog geen tien minuten lopen naar het uitgaansgebied rondom Brindley place, de kanalen, Gas street en de bibliotheek. Het hotel was rustig qua publiek en de ontbijtruimte was groot genoeg voor alle gasten

Het ontbijt was goed, maar ik zou zelf toch iets meer variatie wensen qua beleg (meerdere soorten vleeswaren en kaas). Nu was het full english, ontbijtgranen en toast met boter en jam.

The breakfast was good. I had a problem locating the hotel from the station. It took me 25 minutes to locate hotel in the late evening despite leaving from the New Street station. I left from the wrong exit despite calling for directions.

I had expected a double bed and had a twin room. As I arrived so late and was very tired. I raised it with the staff at checkout and was told as I requested a standard double they had the flexibility of giving me what was available. The hotel was not full. Having to sleep on a twin was not comfortable and we were awaken by a false fire alarm and had to vacate the building at 5:40 am. I didn't have a restful sleep. The reception staff stated I should have requested a change. I was so tired after the walking for 25 minutes with luggage to call to have a room change as after arrival just after 10:00pm. I had call ahead to say my check in was going to be later than expected but I don't feel that I was treated with any customer care - but just told what was policy repeated twice!

L'hôtel est à ne pas confondre avec le Holiday Inn standard. Il est un peu excentré par rapport au centre ville (10 minutes de marche à pied). Quelques équipements sont manquants (sacs poubelles, brosses à toilette) ou dégradés (lampes de chevet branlantes). La plomberie a fait plusieurs fois des bruits dérangeants et il y a un vis a vis car un immeuble de bureau est à une dizaine de mètres de la fenêtre de la chambre.

Room was ok but quite basic and we were overlooked by rows and rows of offices in the next building. Our internal door lock/'chain' did not work as it was misaligned with the door which was concerning given news stories of people entering rooms during the night of various different hotels. Room for two but only one chair and minimal tea/coffee making facilities - nice they were there but not enough sugar for two people and not really enough milk. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was ok but bacon was overcooked and a bit cold, as were the eggs (minimal choice with eggs, scrambled or nothing)

Room lock could have worked. Not being overlooked by office workers. Enough stuff in the room for two - chair and sugar etc. Better breakfast and more egg choice.

It is very comfortable and near the centre of the city and the Grand Central. The views from the room are incredible. We’ll come back!

Good location for accessing the city centre and Gas Street Canal. Plenty of bars and restaurants in walking distance. Our room was clean and comfortable and breakfast was plentiful. We were visiting Birmingham for the European Athletics and this hotel was the perfect choice.
