Provider-sourced guest reviews.
Hôtel bien situé, chambre spacieuse, calme et bien équipée. Service de turndown le soir.
Petit déjeuner bon mais relativement cher.
This hotel was fabulous, luxurious and opulent. Staff were very polite and helpful. We were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary and the hotel acknowledged that with a note & bottle of wine. Thank you. We had breakfast in the restaurant which was excellent. We would highly recommend this hotel. It’s one of the best hotels we have stayed in.
The only thing that was disappointing was the car parking charges. As we had a hire car we need to use the parking facility. The hotel parking was very expensive considering other parking charges in the city were half the price. Hotel prices were $42 cad plus tax per day. Other car parking was around $24-27 per day. So I would recommend parking next door in the paid car park. Don’t understand why the hotel want to over charge their guests so much.
The location was great for exploring downtow
It was a luxurious experience at this boutique hotel, and the Staff were friendly and very helpful with everything you needed. The concierge service was excellent and William provided excellent restaurants in Montreal and beautiful areas to see . The front desk service was excellent Hillary and all of her team were friendly and always helpful . My partner and I absolutely loved our experience. Highly recommend this hotel for a luxurious stay.
Beautiful hotel! The staff is warm, attentive, professional, and helpful. The level of service is perfect-- attentive but not overbearing. The location of the hotel within the "Golden Mile" was perfect for us, and still, inside the hotel it was quiet and peaceful. I'd recommend staying here!
The location was good.
The room was very cold even with the air conditioning on high temperature it took two days to warn the room up. The hidden tip in the bar George was unacceptable.
We had a great experience at this hotel. The room and bathroom are spacious and quiet. All the staff members are very friendly and helpful. The location is also very convenient.
Beautiful property and the staff was amazing. They were very accommodating to my family. We did not arrive until 5am due to a delayed flight and Bob, the night manager, was there waiting for us with a smile and some chocolate. Rooms are extremely nice. Would definitely stay again.
We travel extensively. I have never stayed in a more beautiful hotel. The historic building has absolutely amazing woodworking and stained glass. I can’t say enough good things about the hotel.
The best hotel experience of my life in terms of accommodations and service. Highly recommend!
This is a beautiful hotel located on a nice side street in the downtown area. The area is quiet, yet easily accessible. The architecture is terrific as they added a new contemporary wing for the hotel to the former 1800s mansion. We booked a room with terrace which was perfect. The terrace was nice to sit out on and made room feel that much larger. Great shower and room decor. Don’t miss Aura at the Notre Dame Cathedral—easy Uber from the hotel.
Absolutely one of the nicest hotels I’ve stayed in. Just lovely on all levels.
The hotel facility is wonderful. Great location, beautiful and quiet rooms. Booked through Trip Advisor and while checking in the hotel front desk claimed it had a lesser room reserved for me than what I booked. I showed my confirmation reservation. They nonetheless claimed that my reservation is not what was actually booked by Trip Advisor. Fortunately the hotel accommodated me anyway - likely because the hotel was not very full. I contacted Trip Advisor but their support team seemed very unconcerned. Don’t think I’ll ever book with Trip Advisor again.
We very much enjoyed our stay at Le Mount Stephen. Both the hotel and our room were extremely clean. Everything in our room functioned properly and every singe staff member we interacted with was pleasant. The one type of bottled water they provide is included with the room, which is very convenient for those who are going out and about. Also, there was an electric kettle in our room so if you’re a tea drinker, you can actually have a cup of tea that is not brewed in the same machine as coffee, and therefore does not taste like coffee. The chromotherapy shower is wonderful as is the shower water pressure. We had a few questions regarding directions and food, so we visited the concierge one afternoon. His name was Michael and he was VERY helpful. We cannot comment on Bar George, as we unfortunately did not have the time to visit it. There is construction going on near the hotel, so be aware of that if walking or driving in the area, as your smartphone directions may be incorrect. The construction did not cause noise to be heard in our room. It was a very quiet room. My husband joined the Leaders Club prior to our hotel visit. However, I was the one who made the reservation. Therefore, we were not able to take advantage of any of the benefits of the Leader’s Club during our stay. We were okay with that, but if the Leaders Club benefits are important to you, please make sure the person who is a member is also the one making the reservations.
This hotel is in a good location. a/c, black out shades, room was clean, water pressure, bed all good. Closet space minimal. Staff friendly. Biggest negative is we had a junior suite - and the room was one big open box. The bathroom, directly across from the bed. The bathroom is frosted glass with a sliding frosted glass door. So this is not good for light nor noise. Never really seen a room with this layout. Bar is hopping but $. Main dining room food was fair. Breakfast was included in my deal, I was solo, waiter rang me up for 2 people, I think larger tip for him. We did have dog nearby that was barking for bit. LHW member, didn't get upgraded. A buddy of mine, who checked in after me, got upgrade to a nicer room then me. They could have upgraded me, then upgraded him to my room. So I know one was available. Because of this room layout, I would not stay here again, and next time in Montreal, I would try another hotel.
This is an outstanding hotel with A+ beds, showers, and service. Special commendation to Alex.
La ubicación es estupenda. Muy cerca del museo de bellas artes y se puede llegar a muchos sitios de interés caminando. Todos los que nos atendieron fueron amabilísimos.
Todo nos gustó. Volveremos sin duda.
Wonderful downtown Hotel in Montreal . Nicely decorated rooms and public areas (check the restaurant) , we stayed in a king suite. As a professional traveler , I would recommend it to well-heeled travelers
We had an excellent stay at Le Mount Stephen. The overall feel is modern and genuinely luxurious, with thoughtful design details that made it easy to relax after long days out in Montreal. Room & sleep quality: The room was spacious and very comfortable. The layout is long and a bit narrower than many hotel rooms, but it worked well and didn’t feel cramped. The automated blackout blinds were a standout—when lowered, the room became impressively dark, and the additional curtains softened the look and made the space feel warmer. The room was also quiet, which mattered a lot during the Montreal Jazz Festival week. Service: Service was consistently strong. Room service was excellent, and turndown service happened reliably each evening—exactly the kind of polish you want in a luxury property. Bathroom: The bathroom was a highlight and felt truly premium. Great amenities/products, a Kohler bidet, and a Kohler rain shower with genuinely strong water pressure. The shower lighting and the soaking tub made it feel spa-like, and it was a pleasure to come back to at the end of the day. Dining: Bar George is a real asset on property. Breakfast was consistently delicious, and the lunch menu was excellent as well—scallop curd and frites were favorites. Location: The hotel is close enough to the main action for an easy, affordable Uber ride, but far enough that we had no festival noise once we returned to the room. That balance made it an ideal home base. Overall, Le Mount Stephen delivered a high-end, comfortable, well-run experience, and we would gladly return.
Le Mount Stephen is a fantastic hotel. Service was over the top. You definitely have to go to Bar George for cocktails and supper. The rooms are huge and so comfortable. Definitely my go to hotel when I return to Montreal.
Amazing historical entrance and lovely hotel. All staff were outstanding from check-in to check-out. We celebrated our wedding anniversary and were treated very special. Bar George at the hotel a must to have a drink! Great location.
From the superb and welcoming staff to my comfortable night on the 8th floor, I had the best night at the Mount Stephen last week.

If you love, beautiful bathrooms with state-of-the-art showers and bathtubs, thick hundred percent cotton robes and towels, you are in for a treat. You will never wanna leave this bathroom, with great water pressure and a drenching shower, with steam and colored lights. There’s nothing comparable to these clean and luxurious bathrooms.
It’s historic roots; Bar George; comfortable modern room
Nothing
Beautiful hotel, centrally located, great restaurant, clean, modern facilities...but the best part is the staff! You will be hard pressed to meet a friendly group of people.
This hotel is absolutely gorgeous and most luxurious and comfortable. Service and staff are exemplary. The Bar George Restaurant is five star- an absolute must even if not staying in the hotel. The bathrooms are true luxury and the technology of the room was perfect. Perfect climate control- precise and never drafty! Great location and quiet. We plan to return to Montreal and will choose this hotel again.
Le Mount Stephen is a gem in Montreal. The refurbished 1880’s mansion is exquisite architecturally, and the contemporary addition which was built more recently, is extremely comfortable as well as beautiful. The staff is attentive, friendly and gracious. And the in-house restaurant and bar deliver a lovely fine dining experience. The property location is conveniently located near many of the most important sites to visit as well as a plethora of restaurants, shopping, and art galleries. We would highly recommend Le Mount Steven and will stay there again if our travels bring us to Montreal.
TOP NOTCH! What an incredible hotel..Le Mount is exquisite and incredibly beautiful. This is an experience and definitely take time to venture upstairs and see this incredible historic home attached to the hotel. Our standard king suite was anything but standard… it was beautiful and the furnishings are in pristine condition. We love the bathroom with its massive shower and rainfall ceiling. The bidet with the heated seat was wonderful too. Our king size bed was very comfortable, and the pillows allowed us for a very nice sleep. We ate at the restaurant downstairs , the food and the dining experience were absolutely amazing and service impeccable. All staff were incredibly wonderful and helpful and I must mention Alex at the front desk because he gave us a tour of the upstairs and was very knowledgable and so kind. We will definitely be back.
Le Mount Stephen was an incredible Hotel and enjoyable experience. Everything was more than we would have asked for.
Service is excellent. Front desk staff were polite, spoke English and French fluently, were helpful and courteous. The room decor wasn’t my taste, but the beds were comfy, and once you figure out the lighting and drapes (all electronic) it’s very pleasant. Great location. Very clean.
This is a beautiful hotel. The rooms are very modern and comfortable. The staff went out of their way to help you. Thank you
Lovely hotel. A perfect pairing of old charm and new hotel. The president of the railroad built his home...and spared no expense! Beautiful woodwork and stained glass. The hotel was then built adjacent to the old home. We had a kick that when you walked into the bathroom the toilet lid automatically lifted and the fan started. The toilet seat was also heated. The public spaces were in the old home. We enjoyed breakfast here and stopped in the bar for an after dinner drink and a hazelnut dessert.
Notre chambre avec jardin était magnifique ainsi que le restaurant et ces boiseries.
Rien
We thoroughly enjoyed our experience staying at Le Mount Stephen. Beautiful hotel, spectacular bar, and great restaurant. Exceptional customer service.
We stayed at the Le Mount Stephen Hotel for 4 nights in May. We enjoyed our stay. We loved the beautiful historical portion of the hotel. The hotel and service were amazing. We used the concierge for dinner reservations at Bar George. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a central location. It is a five minute walk to the Metro station and there are a lot of great restaurants in the area. The hotel restaurant, Bar George, is top notch. Highly recommend and would definitely stay there again.
The building was beautiful, Hotel staff were excellent
Room was underwhelming, my towels were fluffy but the inspection tags were still on, hence new towels, not laundered before putting in the room, attached Restaurant less than mediocre. Limited menu and underwhelming. The Bar, although “the place to be” Staff rude and service bad. Had to leave, still did not receive drinks. Overall I would not stay here again.
I think I have found my absolute favorite hotel in North America. You enter via the beautifully restored Victorian home of Lord Mount Stephen, the first president of the Canadian Pacific Railway and President of the Bank of Montreal. Behind this is a contemporary tower of ninety extraordinarily comfortable and quiet rooms. The Bar is a fabulous riot of color and noise and the dining room, where we had a delicious dinner, is quiet and very stylish. Our bedroom and bathroom were super-clean and very modern - the bath one of the biggest ever, as well as a big rain shower with chromotherapy to help with relaxation. The lighting, blinds and heating worked very efficiently using a straight-forward screen, and our king size bed was perfect with just the right-weight duvet and good linens. Best of all the staff were both super-friendly and helpful. I can’t wait to return.
Le Mount Stephen offers an exquisite blend of luxury and comfort. With attentive service, beautifully rooms, and tasty dining, it’s the perfect five-star retreat in the heart of Montreal. A stay that will be remembered. Highly recommended!
The location was convenient for us for getting around by taxi . Hotel staff very obliging and helpful in arranging transportation. We loved the aesthetics of the building’s contrasting architecture….the original mansion, as compared to the new tower. Appreciated being able to tour the original house and admire the stunning craftsmanship of former generations.
There were no negatives, and the next time we visit, the construction will likely be completed, so we can view the remainder of the front of the hotel.
My wife and I booked a deluxe king room for a romantic getaway to Montreal. We had visited the bar on a previous visit and loved it so we were really looking forward to our stay. Check in was very smooth but the disappointment started as soon as we opened the door to our room. The lighting, blinds, and HVAC are controlled by a ridiculously complicated system, it took about half an hour to try to figure out how to dim the very bright, fluorescent colour temperature lighting as the blinds went up and down over, and over, and over…. The room was large but almost comically under furnished with a large unfurnished space that would’ve been great had we wanted to host an in-room dance party, but otherwise made the room feel barren. The walls were also rather plain (even though they were wallpapered throughout) and gave the room the feel of a Holiday Inn or similar chain hotel. The bathroom was nice, the shower was great and there was a very nice, large soaker tub. Minor quibbles related to water that pooled in the shower (tiles not properly sloped), and a loose shower control. For some reason the bathroom door is a large glass affair on a noisy slider that woke up my partner each time it was closed. Another disappointment was the view, we were on a higher floor but when the blind lifted the exterior wall only has a vignette of small windows. I guess this was done for exterior aesthetics, but in our opinion the in-room guest experience should govern. The common areas are nice but lacking in charm or character in the new part of the hotel (although the corridors were very nice and the gym is great). It should also be noted that the front facade of the old building is under construction so you have to enter through a small side door, none of this was disclosed by the hotel. Overall this is not a 5 star hotel and, although we really wanted to like this place, we can’t recommend it.
For us, this was a very average experience. The lobby is pretty no-frills, and the front desk wasn’t particularly friendly. Maybe because we don’t speak French. The hallways on the guest floors are absolutely lovely though, with a beautiful mix of modern and antiques.. The bar is breathtakingly lovely. Our room was quite large, but had a very odd layout with lots of wasted space and few amenities. The bathroom felt disproportionately small, with a flat trough sink that led to water splashing everywhere whenever you used it. There a toilet bidet which we really appreciated but since the bathroom was so small the electric eye sensor went off with your every move, and the toilet lid constantly was opening. The shower area is a wet room with a bathtub and a shower, and funky color changing lights. The front of the hotel is closed due to construction, and it was so very difficult to figure out where the parking deck was. That was frustrating. The parking deck itself was very dusty as the equipment for the renovation is stored in there and our car got very dirty. Not sure that we would stay there again.
Tout
Excellent facilities and the breakfast was really good
With the renovations being done to the front, it was a bit of a pain having to go up the stairs with luggage and whatnot, but not exactly the hotel’s fault
Tout. Confort, modernité, qualité de l’équipement, emplacement. Le bar et la salle à manger situés dans la vieille maison sont époustouflants.
Rien. On nous avait prévenu que l’escalier d’entrée était en rénovation.
The Mount Stephen is a majestic, yet modern hotel. The rooms are modern, the staff is old-world impeccable -- all at a reasonable price. The downtown location is convenient for both business and tourists.
We will return to this hotel - it was excellent value. Great service, location, spacious functional rooms, loved the bar off the lobby both for drinks and appetizers- especially the hamachi crudo. Easy walk to McGill. Really appreciated the concierge William Chev who put together a little walking route for us to check out Montreal on our short stay.
A first-class hotel in a historically spectacular setting in Central Montreal. Excellent, helpful, and knowledgeable staff and a great bar and restaurant. Very reasonably priced considering the location and what the hotel has to offer. If you're going to a Montreal Canadiens game, this is definitely the place to stay. Only a 10-minute walk to Centre Bell.
Hotels often have troubles; it just cannot be helped when humans are involved. What separates and quality hotel from an average is how it is dealt with. Le Mount Stephen did it right. We checked in about 5:00 and went directly to dinner. We had been driving all day and were anxious to just get to bed. My wife often has trouble sleeping and, when that happens, she uses the TV to help put her to sleep. Unfortunately the one in our room did not work. We called to the front desk and someone came right away. They spent about fifteen minutes trying to figure out the problem without any success. He said he was going to talk to reception about this. We got a call from the manager (I'm afraid I forgot his name) who said they recently found out that all the televisions on our floor were not working. To make a longer story not much longer the manager moved us to a junior suite (about three times the size of our original room), offered a free breakfast and gave us a deduction on the price of the original room. This is how a hotel should deal with problems!
Junior sweet was amazing. After spending valentines weekend there we didn't want to return home.d
The Hotel was immaculate, all Hi-tech, spotless.
The current conditions of the facade reconstruction was a blemish. The Road closure as a result was very tricky to navigate.
Great hotel and fantastic service. The very best hotel that I’ve stayed at.
Everything was really wonderful. The staff were incredible. The room was super spacious and had a lot of luxury touches, like automated blinds and lighting. Also, the hotel's location was absolutely fantastic, and being attached to Bar George was such a wonderful perk.
We didn't find the beds to be super comfortable, but they were fine!
Location was amazing! In the heart of Montreal, you can walk everywhere. Lots of great restaurants and shopping nearby. I LOVED Bar George in the hotel. It’s gorgeous and the cocktails are amazing.

I have stayed at hotels from this hotel group before. I will stay again. Very quiet and restaurant is excellent.
The self rising toilet seat. Too sensitive.
The cleanness and the staff, specially the concierge
The front of the hotel is under refurbishment, making difficult to arrive if you have luggage.
Location close to McGill university, walking distance to old town and port as well as to Mt. Royal. The superb combination of old front and sophisticated new hotel . The lingering fragrance in the elevator and throughout. The hotel bar and restaurant space is magnificent.
There is really nothing I did not like.
My wife and I stayed 2 nights at the Le Mount Stephen for a quick weekend in Montreal. We stayed in a king room, which was spacious as we needed and very modern. The bed was comfortable, and lots of room for luggage and amenities. The main entrance was under construction when we were here, so we had to enter through the restaurant entrance of Bar George, which was a little awkward, and exit through the garage. Not the fault of the hotel, but it was a bit strange. The hotel is in a very convenient location, near a metro stop and also close by dozens of restaurants, all within a few blocks' walking distance or closer. The only criticism I have is that the bathroom in the hotel is so ultra-modern with its knobs and controls for everything from the shower to the toilet, is that it took us nearly 30 minutes to figure out how to use simple features. I tend to like modern amenities, but this was a little much. That's a minor quibble, though. Everyone at the hotel was friendly, the staff brought our bags to our room when it was ready, and we enjoyed our stay.
Upscale hotel. Room modern and large. Heated bathroom seats and large shower. Bed comfortable. Staff friendly. .
Location was decent. The rooms were ok. The minibar had old candy. I came for my birthday and they didn’t do anything special. We had coffee and pastries delivered to the room and they didn’t provide napkins or silverware. They didn’t do turndown service one of the nights. For a 5 star hotel it just fell short and was disappointing
Location was excellent, staff is very helpful and polite. Rooms are beautifully decorated and bed are very comfortable. We did not eat at the restaurant but it’s is beautiful, it is located in the original building.
I have no complaints for this hotel it more than met our expectations.
The bed were too hard. Lighting was a tad complicated to figure out.
Bed could have been more comfortable
All good Thank you for a perfect stay
We had a wonderful time and were able to maximize our stay even though we were only there for one night! Bar George was phenomenal, the staff were extremely friendly and accommodating, and the overall hotel was clean and beautiful!
Nice lobby, friendly staff, large room
Bed was hard, and I like hard beds to an extent, also the covers were too heavy so between the hard bed and covers being too heavy on the body, I woke up a bunch throughout the night and I've never not slept through the night at a hotel or at my own home The sink faucet was hard to get to the right temp, either hot or cold, difficult to get warm
The hotel is beautiful. The mix of an historical mansion with a contemporary hotel was exquisite. The staff was always friendly and helpful
It was very close to the downtown area. Had a really amazing Japanese toilet which was great for the winter season :P
The TV channels were slightly messed up. As in after a certain cartoon channel the TV would restart again.
We stayed in the Luxury Loft room. The pictures looked great online but the slanted, windowed roof was covered in a sheet of ice and snow, so you couldn't really enjoy the view. It made the whole room dark because it was the main source of natural light. So I wouldn't stay in these rooms in the winter. The room also had a vast array of temperature and light control panels, none of which worked. A bunch of them had broken buttons. It was impossible to get just one or two lights to turn on and the room was really cold the entire time we were there. The fake fireplace also didn't work. It was supposed to emit heat, which we really could have used, but it wasn't working. It also made a strange squeaking sound whenever it was turned on, so we couldn't even use it for ambiance without dealing with that annoyance. Overall, I'd say this hotel is in need of a major renovation. It charges far too much money for what is a clearly outdated and under-repaired experience. The building looks super cool from the outside, though.
Beds, service, cleanliness
The Bar George
Fabulous hotel. The room was luxurious, clean and quiet although the technology was a little challenging for us old folks! The staff were all very polite and professional. The decor throughout the hotel was tasteful quality. I’ve stayed in a lot of hotels and this one is definitely one of the best.
Stayed at Le Mount Stephen and my experience was excellent. This is an amazing hotel with staff that is so attentive, rooms are very good. I had a very good experience and my next trip to Montreal will have me staying at Le Mount Stephen. Highly recommend this Hotel.
My stay was exceptional. Hotel staff -- from the front door to room door -- was pure pleasure to interact with. I was pleased to see a hotel lobby that is both comfortable and rather expansive (for a hotel this size). My room was very comfortable and welcoming, clean and inviting. The hallway was satisfyingly quiet. Elevator that directly connected the garage to all hotel floors is a nice feature. I think Mount Stephen is comparable to the Ritz, Sofitel, Queen Elizabeth. I thought a pretty decent value. I'll return.
Excellent overall experience. Clean, friendly staff, comfortable bed, great food. Easy garage parking. 5 stars!!!!!
Le personnel est incroyablement accueillant! Service impeccable. L’hôtel est à distance de marche de toutes les activités que nous avions prévues pendant notre séjour de 4 jours.
Celebrating my daughter's milestone birthday here was just phenomenal!! Accommodation and Dinner like no other. Truly impressed+++
The hotel is beautiful and there are an abundance of staff to help with all your needs. The rooms are spacious and bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was amazing. The tub and shower were glass enclosed. Soaker tub could fit 2. Rainfall shower was amazing. Lots of hot water and complimentary shampoo, conditioner and body wash. There was even bath salts for the tub!! What i didn't like is that there was no real accessible entrances. The front doors had many stairs, parking garage was down a steep ramp.
We liked everything- the history; the modern rooms; the decor; the beautiful bar and restaurant and the wait staff in all areas.
There were no shortcomings.
Would definitely stay here again. we could walk to the museums near by, the Time Out food hall in the Eaton Centre and other sites . The food at the Bar George was very good and it seems it is the hot spot in town.
Ambiance, Environnement exceptionnel Magnifique bâtiment
Un peu dispendieux, mais de qualité exceptionnelle.
Textbook definition of "Luxury Hotel" in my opinion. 10/10, Staff, Amenities, Old + New Architecture. Definitely worth saving up for.
Le Mont Stephen is a fantastic spot for a downtown Montreal visit. If you have any interest in Canadian History (Confederation era) you will marvel at the history found on site. George Stephen was a power broker in Montreal/Lower Canada and this historic site would have seen all of the major political and business players meet and discuss the key issues of Confederation and the Trans Canadian Railway. The hotel itself is first rate in every way possible. Modern and well outfitted (Spa:Gym/etc) the hotel is also wonderfully situated in a very walkable area (Drummond/ Rue Sainte Catherine/etc). I only wish we had another couple of days!
