Straatkant, met redelijk wat lawaai van het verkeer.

We have stayed here many times but our first time in Room 1 which is the largest room. Well worth paying a little extra for. Spacious room and bathroom with a large wardrobe in entrance room between. Bed was extremely comfortable. Goddard Arms is ideally located for numerous restaurants and The Lawns for a nice walk.

No issues - floorboards very creaky but it is a very old property!

Ruime kamer, prima ontbijt, vriendelijk personeel, nette badkamer, lekker diner.

Heel laag plafond, veel lawaai buiten aan de voorkant (zaterdag- op zondagnacht), tot diep in de nacht. Erg ongelijke, krakende vloeren en plafonds, wat ook wel weer zijn charme heeft in zo'n oud gebouw. Wat karige hoeveelheden bij het diner.

We really liked the Goddard arms. It was a very relaxed feeling at the pub, meals were terrific. We couldn’t fault the pub, star, the location. It was terrific.

Great place and staff were excellent

The staff are very friendly and helpful but this hotel has seen better days. My room was tiny and backed onto a noisy air conditioning pipe and the need to have security staff on the door says it all. Shouting and fighting going on outside till the early hours. Not somewhere I would want to go to again but it seems very popular with the locals.

Very hot and sticky inside, thank goodness there was an outside area to escape to for some fresh air.

Location and cleanliness of room

Breakfast was very poor. Ordered a full English but had no bacon. I pointed it out and was told they would get some. I then realised the sausage was veggie so had the wrong breakfast. I spoke to the waiter who apologised and offered to get a meat sausage. 5 mins later one piece (not 2) of bacon arrived. Egg yolks were all hard and orange juice had run out. Despite that, the stay was still vfm and I would use again.

All good but do not sleep at the front at the weekend!

The noise from outside was load so no sleep until 3am Saturday night.

It was clean and comfortable

I thought I was booking a quiet pub, so I was surprised to see bouncers on the door and loud very drunk people doing shots ( which is great , but not the vibe I was expecting or wanted ). The food was very average.

Bathroom window painted shut, with no blind, which meant light flooded into the room early Some noise from people talking and smoking in garden below Pub was a bit grubby. Filthy and stained carpets, which didn’t make the bar look that nice. Music was too loud. We went to Wood Street for dinner instead of staying in the bar.

Good first impressions as we arrived in the rear car park. Frontage looks very welcoming. Large bar serving good pub grub.

Rear outdoor seating area has seen better days and requires some TLC to make it welcoming and a pleasant place to sit, eat and drink.

Rooms a bit too stuffy, it’s an old building so understandably no air con, but opening the windows meant you could hear noisy pub garden.

It was nice and clean and the staff were extremely friendly. The room was spotless and I don’t know where they get their beds and mattresses from but I slept like a baby.

Very poor breakfast experience. The staff member responsible neglected to brew coffee (and instead did them cup-by-cup), claimed the toaster didn't work (although it did). There was no orange juice as it was claimed they ran out due to a popular event (there is a grocery store about 100 yards away). I'm OK with a lack of air conditioning, but the bathroom had no window covering at all, and with sun on the window through much of the day, the bathroom was close to 40C during our stay. Worst of all, we had a family reunion at the location where we treated awfully. Despite the manager making a compromise, it ruined the experience.

Non è un hotel, è un pub con delle stanze vecchissime e orribili, non c'è neanche la reception, è impossibile contattarli sia via telefono che via mail, sono a dato via un giorno prima anche se a evo pagato,i avevano assicurato che mi avrebbero rimborsato e invece nulla! Spariti! Nessuna notizia. Pessimo, da evitare assolutamente!

Stayed here many times, it's good value and the rooms are acceptable. On site parking and a great location. It's a pub hotel, plenty of room and usually not too noisy. Serves a good breakfast. Staff good.

On this occasion I decided to eat one evening at the hotel with a family member. The meals were poor and my portion mean.

De pub is op vrijdag en zaterdag open tot 00.30 uur. Met de enorme warmte, was het niet mogelijk te slapen met dichte ramen. Wij sliepen aan de tuinzijde, waar het tot 00.30 uur flink rumoerig was. Logisch, want voor een biertje was het in de pub ook veel te warm. Ons advies is dan ook: neem er zelf ook een en ga wat later onder de wol

It was in a good location easy to find and ample parking. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Stayed here many times before and never had any issues. Good location with free parking in Old Town.

Allocated room 12. Small box type room at top of property. No headroom to the shower and part of the ceiling coming down in the bathroom. Breakfast, normally very good, was disappointing. Not ready at 7:00. No orange juice or yoghurts that are normally available.

Lovely clean room with a very comfy bed and everything else you might need. Ideal central location and very friendly and helpful staff. Ample parking on site.

The food in the restaurant and at breakfast was very disappointing. Breakfast both days took 45 minutes to arrive and looked like it had been reheated. On the 2nd day they ran out of bacon, tomatoes, white bread and the coffee pot was cold. Not the fault of the staff as they were doing their best but we believe they were simply understaffed.

The property was in an excellent situation for what we needed. It was also close to the park for walking the dog. The room was clean as was the en-suite. Mark showed us around when we got there and took us to our room. He was very polite and helpful. Sammy one of the girls was also a friendly helpful member of staff. The breakfast was good. A very busy pub.

The first morning breakfast was good. The second morning no juice, no milk and no bread. Had to ask for more. Should be checked and kept replenished. Had to ask twice for bread for toast. The toaster is rubbish and they need more than one. Took ages for our breakfast order to be taken and was then told no tomatoes or bacon ! They knew they had a lot of guests so get more food in. Disappointing.

Historical hotel in the city centre. Very good and very huge breakfast. Well eqquipped rooms.

Too noisy in the room because windows are not sealed. You have to order your beer or other drinks at the bar, even if the staff aren’t busy.

Staff very friendly. Goode location with dogs as theres a large lovely park next door. Good breakfast choice. Serve lunches and dinner but many restaurants around aswell to choose from. Room at the back overlooking the car park so no road noise

They charged me an extra £15 when i got there for the dogs. The room was very very hot and the window only opened about 3 inches, they said due to health and safety. They did provide a fan.

Lovely clean rooms which had loads of really nicely thought out touches like a great tower fan and a sheet with a note if you didn’t want a duvet in the heat! Staff were all really fantastic and friendly. Incredible value for money

The staff, the location

No soundproofing in room. Noise from just walking from room above and also Didn’t realise the night life from pubs n clubs went on till 4am and our room was at the front so was constantly woken by outside noise.

We ate in the Goddard Arms last night and were extremely disappointed with the standard of the food. This pub used to be very good, but feel it has gone down hill. The chef certainly knows how to use a microwave as all the food was over cooked and hard !!

The staff were friendly and we were shown to our room. Bathroom very new and well appointed. Inexpensive and accommodating of the dog for a £15 fee. Free car parking.

The room was very small and faced a busy road, so having the window open for essential fresh air on a hot night meant we had to put up with trucks etc going by right under the window all night. Room generally clean but there were dog treats on the carpet behind the door and under the ironing board storage that did not suggest a thorough hoover.

The location is central and the pub car park is safe. The staff are very nice and forthcoming.

The rooms are in need of refurbishing.

The thoughtfulness of the place, very hot weather, so they supplied a sheet in case you didn't want to use the duvet, and a fan . It was so thoughtful. Staff are amazing, helpful and pleasant. Best staff I have ever met made me feel so welcome. Easy access to Avebury and some other attractions I like.

The road noise.

Schöner historischer Pub mit Zimmern darüber. Sauber, gepflegt und urig. Besonders hervorzuheben ist die Herzlichkeit des Personals. Betten bequem, Bad ensuite, Parkplatz hinter dem Haus. Gutes Frühstück. Der Pub selbst ist groß und schön und hat auch einen Biergarten.

Es war sehr warm und die Zimmer unter dem Dach heizen sich schnell auf. Ein kleines Kühlgerät statt/und Ventilator wäre gut gewesen.

Breakfast was plenty for me, although I missed having any fruit available. With the new juice receptacles, it may have been a good idea to label these so that you could easily see what flavour of the juice. The staff, room, overall comfort and friendliness was great.

Everything was ok

Great location, small amount of parking. Staff were really helpful and friendly. My friend and I meet quite often and stay over (usually in a competing hotel) and thought we'd try here instead. Pleased we did and will be using this hotel again. Overall a really pleasent stay.

I put on my booking that I'm allergic to feathers and requested no feather bedding but had feather duvets on the beds. It was hot so didn't feel the need to moan as I didn't need a duvet. Was just the principle.

Easy access to train station.

Outside steps round the back late at night.

Rooms were way too hot, needs a better fan and/or have the windows open all the way.

Beautiful old building in Old Swindon. Easy dog management with very pleasant park just a short walk away. Comfortable bed: hot water: wi-fi. Very pleasant staff, one of whom was able to "repair" my wife's phone charger. Parking.

Let's say the breakfast was slightly primitive. One thing for which the Goddard Arms was not responsible: our street side room benefited from the local Inadequates' "Look at me" Car Club performing immediately outside. Revving, burning rubber, gunning the hi-fi: not all night but occasionally. I think the Goddard Arms should militate for speed cameras and noise cameras to be installed in the area. The local council and police are probably not aware of The Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986.

The property is beautiful and has a wealth of history

We have stayed here before but our room this time was a great improvement on the previous one. Dogs were made welcome. It was England v. Norway World Cup night, so it was busy but the staff fitted us in for a meal. Everyone was friendly and cheerful and the noise level was not a problem and it was good to see support for the England team. We didn't stay for breakfast this time, as we wanted to get on the road before it got hot. The fan in our room was a helpful addition.

Very convenient for our stay in the area while visiting friends. The room was good size, shower excellent, coffee machine etc staff attentive, etc. I only wish we had another night here to enjoy the amazing atmosphere of the pub and Old Town. Our stay was during World Cup England v Norway so the pub was buzzing through this particular night but we slept soundly and comfortably throughout the game and celebrations!

The pub was nice and friendly with a lovely buzzy atmosphere . The staff were very friendly . The rooms were clean .

The heat in the room was unbearable . I know we have had unusually hot weather but we had a sleepless night as it was so hot . You really need to supply fans as it was just so uncomfortable in the room . We had booked 2 nights stay but only stayed for 1 of the nights as it was so hot . It was such a shame as everything else was good .

At Breakfast the Manager who seemed to be in charge questioned if we had paid for breakfast, nice try this has happened before, After a long chat He went off and came back saying we had paid for breakfast, I am sure he thinks he is clever and does not undersand he has lost business FOREVER we get fed up as he just wanted to charge for breakfast. His con spoiled the day if we pay beforehand we do not expect to have to scrap with a con artist, After all what changed between his first visit to the computer and his secon visit ?

Ideal location for our needs.

Le lieu est plein de charme, et on sent une belle ambiance dès qu'on y arrive. Les gens s'y retrouvent en famille, entre amis. Le personnel est très sympa, accueillant, aidant et impliqué dans la relation avec les clients. Même si les couloirs et les chambres sont vieillottes , le lieu a du charme et la propreté des chambres est irréprochable. La douche a une taille confortable et elle fonctionne très bien Un ventilateur climatiseur était également à disposition.

Le bruit des installations extérieures et le manque d'isolation phonique. Mais c'est acceptable, au vu de tout le reste, le rapport qualité-prix est très bon en plein centre ville. Prévoir d'accéder aux chambres par des escaliers.

Pub/hotels are in my experience always average at best and that's what I expected, how wrong I was. This place was truly magnificent, the staff from the first interaction were friendly, efficient, and welcoming, then the room itself was exceptionally spacious, huge bathroom and spotlessly clean, it was totally modern yet comfortable, the bed was one of the best I've slept in and the whole experience just blew the usual hotels/big chains that I always gravitate to totally out the water, the next time I'm staying in Swindon this will without question be my first choice. I seem to spend half my life in hotels travelling and I can geneuinely say this place is absolutely the place to stay. Highly recommended

No complaints at all

The base of the fan was broken. The coffee machine was not working. The toilet seat was not fixed down which caused sitting down uncomfortable. The room was not hoovered properly as found food crumbs from previous residents. But as i was there for only 2 nights i did not complain. I expected better for the price i paid. While checking in a member of staff had to keep asking another member what to do. After a long journey i didnt need this.

Yes its a pub, but even 4 in the morning there was still crying, screeching, police sirens and lights. We ahd a fan, but our friends never, and thier room was unbearable

I like this venue. It is usually fine.

Umfortunately we hit the middle of the heatwave making the bedroom hot and humid. Anywhere without air con would have had the same problem. I will still go back.

It is a fantastic location and well situated for bus services to Avebury and Devizes, while a short walk to the station and town centre. Lots of great pubs nearby!

The TV did not work; the hairdryer was situated next to the hospitality tray; the breakfast was dreadful; uneatable scrambled eggs and toast.

Room was clean and comfortable and it was very quiet. The main reason for our scores though was that every member of staff was happy, friendly and helpful - they made it an absolute pleasure to stay there

Room was hot but it was the hottest day on record so not really their fault!

The rooms are above pup which is loud and busy until late. There is no air condition so if it's warm you have to open the windows but as there is a massive amount of drunk people in the gardens you will not find relaxing time in your room with fresh air. In the corridor and room there was a faint smell of beer. Do use it if you want to get drunk and sleep somewhere close after.

We liked the staff, location, TV screens. Also the price.

A friend organised and booked a room for a party back in January (5month ago) on the night when we arrived they had double booked and didn’t tell us about it. So we had to go elsewhere. Disappointed.

Leider dauert die Bestellung des Frühstücks länger, da es frisch zubereitet wird. Wenn man jedoch ein frühes Meeting hat, wird es nicht eng. Man sollte zwischen 20-30 Minuten einplanen bis da Frühstück am Platz ist.

Came here a couple of times whilst in Swindon as it looked ok inside and had plenty of customers. Great service from all the bar staff we encountered. Food is ok, but nothing special. I had katsu hash browns as there wasn’t much in the way of gluten free options. The hash browns were quite soggy, and there wasn’t much sauce, so I assume they were microwaved. There wasn’t much a football match on one evening and the place was packed with people watching on the big screens. The bar staff amazingly kept up with orders throughout the night.

The location was perfect. Our room was lovely a big comfortable bed, everything was clean. We had our dog with us and the staff always made a fuss of him. The staff were all super friendly and accommodating nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was made to order so we knew it was fresh. We would definitely stay here again.

There was nothing to not like.
