Southern Comforts - Galle Fort

Sehr gut im Fort gelegen. Wir konnten von einem separaten Raum, wo man sich Tee zubereiten konnte, auf das Meer schauen . Herr Aziz war sehr hilfsbereit und hat für uns auch ein Taxi für die Weiterfahrt organisiert.

Location

They cheated on rooms. The room shown and booked was not given to me. We were travelling as a family snd they showed 1 room which was proper and second was a pigeon hole on second floor up a narrow metal staircase which you cannot climb with suitcases. No staff to carry suitcases. Shitty place.

Very good location inside the fort. Staff very kind.

The wifi didn't work very well inside the room. No breakfast.

Вай фай работает Туалетная бумага есть 1 литр воды поставили Утром можно выпить чай или растворимый кофе - чайник в общей гостиной

Душ весь в плесени!!! Балдахин лучше не раскрывать - пыльный весь! Саму комнату еле найдешь - там несколько хозяев и они все сдают комнаты похожие друг на друга. Территории у отеля естественно нет - выходишь и сразу проходная улица

Very well located in the Fort area of Galle, close to all amenities. Traditional old family home with lovely hosts who stay in same building. Common area with sea views, and some rooms with sea views.

The upper floor access is through an iron spiral staircase. The access stairs are narrow and not suitable for anyone with mobility issues. The rooms are on the small side. Some beds are creaky.

我们住在三楼的阁楼，后面是一个垃圾场堆积站，臭味太浓烈了！还好房间里闻不着，一开门就能闻到！

The property was in the centre of the fort and very convenient for everything . The owners were fantastic and went out their way to be helpful

The hotel was very old and could do with refurbishment. Our room was at the top of the building up many steps but this was our choice as we wanted a sea view

The hotel room was more of a low shabby storage room under the roof. Access was only possible via a dilapidated, narrow, rusted staircase. The sea view was more of a look into shabby, littered backyards. The furniture was broken, the bed was uncomfortable and the thin mattress was worne out. The pillows were disgustingly dirty, the bathroom was also dirty and broken. The walls were thin and poorly soundproofed. The price of this run down accommodation is not justified in any way. Due to my complaint, they offered 10% discount to get me to cancel the booking, but it was just an attempt to prevent the negative review and save the commission on the booking platform to raise even more money. After checkout they try to manipulate the booking to prevent ratings.

Тесный санузел. Но с учётом площади старинного дома сложно сделать больше.

Gute Lage in Galle Fort, fußläufig alles erreichbar. Wir haben die Unterkunft als Zwischenstopp vor Colombo Flughafen genutzt und dort nicht übernachtet.

Bad sehr klein. Bei Nutzung der Dusche ist das ganze Bad nass.

就在古城里，地理位置很好。楼上有观景阳台可以直接看到海。房东一家十分友好热情，帮助我们查询去机场的最佳方案，还亲自开车送我们去车站坐车。对了，还送了巧克力给我家小朋友当礼物。房间舒适，整洁，感觉像住在某位亲戚家里。

Absolutely Amazing Place. We had everything we needed.. Our own kitchen. Perfect bathrooms. A beautiful family owns this massive hotel for generations. Right smack bang in the Fort. PERFECT. We are going to miss this place and we dont want to leave. 😪

The stay is right inside the fort and is centrally located to all the cafes. The vibe of the streets around the stay is just amazing 😍 The hosts are super helpful and kind. Highly recommended

Amazing location, good value for money

I messaged the host saying we will be checking in around 22:00 as our train got to Galle from Colombo was scheduled to arrive at that time. I asked if that was okay and the host only said “it’s late” I would have preferred if he’d given us a solution, eg. You would have to pay for late check in. Or - no it’s not possible.

The location with an option of a sea view. The staff were exceptional, could not help enough, even had a lift to the railway station on departure day.

Lovely hosts! Such a pleasure to be so welcomed. A very pleasant room adjoining a shared (between 2 rooms) lounge with fridge and tea-making facilities, and also a small balcony overlooking the courtyard. Very good WiFi, and fan plus air conditioning. Great location, in the heart of the old town of Galle Fort, a few dozen metres away from the walls and the various restaurants and shops.

We were well looked after by the family at Southern Comforts. The location was excellent and it was great value for staying in Galle.

No toiletries, no power backup (we had to spend the entire night without electricity), very small room and access to rooms are very difficult. Pictures are deceptive.

The location is very good and next to the galle fort main area. Rooms are fine and comfortable. And the host is very friendly and helpful.

Not much information on room selection. We had to clime 2 stories for the room and I was not expecting that. The place mentioned about the parking but there is only 2 slots available and since we didn't ask for the parking when book the room, we had to park outside. But still it's safe as there were lot of vehicles like us.

Bathroom a little small

Hafeel and family were extremely helpful and accommodating. The rooms were quaint but neat and centrally located within the fort. A very pleasant few days in Galle with great hosts.

It's very close to all the sights, restaurants etc and the room is clean

We booked a deluxe double room with extra bed and the bed is very close to the washroom (since the room is so small to have 2 beds), to use the washroom you have to knock on the person sleeping on the side of the bed. And It feels so unhygienic and uncomfortable sleeping very close to the washroom entrance .

Right in the heart of the fort, so the location was great and the staff/family was amazing & so kind!

It’s an historical older building so the room was on the smaller side & also the bathroom. Beds weren’t very comfortable and the mosquito net didn’t really fit the size of the bed. It’s okay for 1-2 nights!

It was a great experience to stay over here, it was in the heart of fort. Everything was easily accessible from the hotel and really the hosts were just same like a family. Perfect stay for a family for vacations.

The villa was perfectly located to walk around and visit the historical sites within the fort. The building itself was beautiful and seemed to be steeped in it's own rich history. The rooms were clean and comfortable, each connecting to a shared kitchen/living room area. The owner was incredibly accommodating and went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed. If I'm ever in Galle again, I will certainly stay here.

Nice rooms, friendly host, spottesly clean

The hotel was well located more or less in the centre of Galle Forte. The room was clean and we had all we needed. The owners were pleasant and carried our bags up to the room and gave us a bottle of water on our arrival.

The pillows are lumpy and uncomfortable. The walls of our room were paper thin and you could hear the guests next door. Fortunately, after 11.00pm, during our three night stay, the other guests were quiet. Our room was at the top of the hotel in the attic which was reached by a steep spiral staircase which my wife found a little tricky to negotiate.

Amazing place right in the heart of Galle! The rooms are comfortable and cozy with everything you would need - towels, large water bottle, AC (that actually works!), hot water and private bathrooms. The family that runs the place is so sweet and hospitable. Hafeel drove me to the bus stop when I was leaving and made sure I was charged a local price for my ticket, and his wife told me exactly where I needed to go to buy a particular sambal I had been searching for. Very good people running a great place.

Walls are a bit thin so you can hear people talking a little, but I really only experienced this during the day when I was in my room! Everyone is very quiet by dinner time and I didn't hear a thing while sleeping.

The location was outstanding; right on Lighthouse street in the old town, steps from the historic sites. We loved the fact that we were staying with a local Sri Lankan family who knew the city so well, so much better than staying in a big hotel. The family looked after us so well; they gave us an entire upper floor area and there was lots of space. Although the facilities were simple, they represented excellent value for money, and the hospitality was 5 star. The hosts even packed us a breakfast for our flight home without us asking; such kindness and care was really touching.

Bed was very hard. Bathroom tiny and outdated. Very dark coming in at night. Badly fitting doors and windows.. So locks not very secure. Bedroom very small.

Cleanliness

A great guesthouse in the centre of Galle Fort. Room was a good size for two travellers and everything was clean and comfortable. The owners were so welcoming and helpful, including dropping us to the bus stop very early in the morning. Would recommend to anyone looking to stay in Galle!

While the people were nice enough and the facilities were clean, the room itself was dark, small and with old and outdated furniture. Same for the tiny bathroom which is maybe 2 square meters large (this includes the shower). The room has two little windows and when it rains you have to close the outer shutters otherwise (quite a bit of) rain seeps in through the very old window frames. It makes that during a rainy day, you find yourself sitting in a room deprived of any natural light. I was is Sri Lanka for 4 weeks and this was the most expensive room I stayed at and at the same time my least favorite one. I realize that this accommodation is withing Galle city walls and thus a bit more expensive due to location. But even with that taken into account, I do think price and quality are out of balance. Sorry!
