Very friendly staff, as in whole Japan
The reality was far away from pictures presented. First, use google street to see the reality. Two, smells in the apartment - at random you could smell toilet odors. Three, actual bathroom. Forget about candles, plants provided on the pictures. Four, breakfast is being delivered to your room as is (no actual selection)., If you are not into Japanese style (miso soup, raw fish, rice, etc.) you could ask for a "western style" one, with cold fried eggs. Our family skipped those as well. There is no common area. The hotel is actually a house converted into separate rooms, pretty used furniture, carpet and scratches on the wall. The location itself, too far for walking around the city, uber on daily usage.
Very helpful staff, excellent traditional breakfasts served In the room. Bed very comfortable and top quality bedding
Nothing, although we misunderstood the hydrogenated bath and thought it would be a jacuzzi

The staff are incredible and the hotel very nice. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend.
They offered traditional and modern amenities!
Great service
We had a lovely stay at this hotel! It is a small boutique hotel with I think only 8 rooms. It is in a quiet area of Kyoto which has a number of cute local coffee and gallery spaces nearby. There are lots of accomodation options in Kyoto - we chose this one because they offer a traditional Japanese breakfast that can be prepared gluten free. It did not disappoint and was an excellent way to start our days! But beyond that, I’m so happy we decided to stay here as it was a beautiful room which gave us a great base for exploring. Our room was on the top floor, it was a great size, the bed comfy and the tatami seating area was a lovely addition giving us a nice spot to rest after days of walking. A highlight is the bath and the ability to have relaxing music played within that area. The reception is staffed 24 hours. The staff were very kind and helpful. I hope that we can visit again in the future!
Awesome bathroom tub and very comfortable bed. Breakfast is brought in from local shops and is Japanese style only. A delicious French bakery serving hot Western breakfasts is only a 7 min walk away if you ask the front desk. The staff are superb!!
Nothing.
Beautiful bath in hotel room. Also staff were very pleasant Favourite hotel in Japan
Nothing
Very disappointing stay. This hotel is advertised as 5-star, but it felt more like a 2-star property. Upon checking in, I found mould around the bath and several broken cupboards, with the overall condition and maintenance well below expectations. I paid AUD $3,900 for my stay but was so disappointed that I checked out just one hour after arriving. The cleanliness and quality were nowhere near 5-star standard. I would not recommend this hotel and would not stay here again.

The room was spacious and beautifully decorated, the bath room was definitely a highlight of my stay. The staff were wonderfully friendly and helpful which made things very easy for us, and gave excellent suggestions for places to go. I can't overstate how lovely they were. I will definitely come here next time I visit Kyoto.
Taxi drivers had some difficulty finding it as they kept getting it mixed up with the sister hotel. Even giving the hotel business card didn't help
This is a fabulous option in a quiet location in Kyoto, ten minute car ride from the hustle and bustle of the city centre, close to Arashiyama and other beautiful sites and easy to get to from Kyoto station. Room was super comfortable, fabulous amenities including high quality skincare lovely breakfast and the spa bath made the room extra special. Last but at not least very attentive and kind staff, Rie and team took really good care of us and we are looking forward to returning during our next visit to Kyoto. Thank you!
Nothing at all.

The property was so lovely. It had everything we needed and more. Clean, cosy and traditional. The beauty products were such a nice touch, the bath was amazing and the complimentary drinks every day was a nice touch. The staff were so so lovely and helpful and made the stay next level
The hotel was located such that a walk in any direction took us to historic sites. The staff were wonderful and were incredibly enthusiastic to help us enjoy our stay. This boutique hotel was a memorable hi light of our whole trip
Wonderful hotel experience in Kyoto! The staff was very friendly and provided excellent service throughout our stay. The room was spacious, beautifully designed, and very well equipped. The hotel is located in a quiet area right next to the Imperial Palace, which made the atmosphere very relaxing. The traditional Japanese breakfast was high quality and absolutely delicious. A perfect place to experience Kyoto in a calm and elegant setting.
The team there is excellent. Everyone was professional and caring.
It’s smaller than anticipated and there is really only your room…no common areas at all to relax or enjoy and drink/coffee. Decor in spots is a bit tired. It could use a tight scan and some investment.
Vriendelijk personeel
Everything was perfect! The bed and mattress were comfortable, the bath was amazing, and all additional requests were fulfilled. The hotel is located on the quite street and in 5 min walk from the nearest bus stop, which was convenient.
Very clean and spacious hotel. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we had a pleasant stay, and even left a small gift in the room for my birthday which was greatly appreciated.
It's slightly further out, but it did mean the area was nice and quiet.
We are a family of 5 adults and we really enjoyed our stay. Very spacey rooms with hot baths in each room. Great overall service.
Beautiful room, spacious, comfortable and tasty Japanese snacks and drinks provided! Staff were incredibly helpful and lovely. I loved my stay!
This is a hidden gem of a hotel. Slightly away from the hustle and bustle of the downtown and Gion districts, they are still very accessible by subway and a short walk. The breakfasts were excellent and the staff very attentive and helpful! We would stay again with no doubt!
Staff were brilliant. Exceptionally kind and helpful.
Bathroom was freezing cold. Water system difficult to use. Quite dated compared to pictures on website.
It was a lovely traditional hotel near to the castle in a quiet part of town. Rooms large. Hotel staff brilliant
We loved the traditional feel of this hotel.
Nothing
The beautiful staff. So professional, kind and attentive. Room was traditional and big was amazing The rooms are smaller than what they appear online
The location is not really close to anything and the nearest small shops are in a very busy road. The tatami bed for our daughter was not comfortable. When we arrived we had to pay an extra fee for our daughter which booking.com hasn’t told us about. The price booking.vom have us said it was for 2 adults and one child but the hotel said their child policy only goes up to 7 yrs old so we had to pay about $250 Extra which left a bit of a sour taste in our mouth.
One female staff member provided exceptional customer service based on her alone, the experience would have been a 10/10. Unfortunately, the rest of the stay declined quickly after check-in. The carpet in our room felt very dirty and visibly stained. The rest of the room was as pictured. We were placed in a first-floor room right by the lobby, where all guest traffic passed directly by our door, making it consistently noisy. The front door to the hotel was a sliding door pretty much next to our room wall/window and imagine it sliding open and shut constantly. Due to the age and boutique nature of the hotel, the walls appeared to be extremely thin. Normal walking from the upstairs room was very loud, and any dropped items or luggage movement could be clearly heard. As a result, I was unable to sleep. When I contacted the hotel to explain that we couldn’t sleep, the response I received was that another guest had complained about my children being loud. This was an inappropriate and disappointing response rather than addressing the issue or offering a solution, it felt like a defensive attempt to dismiss my concern. There was no resolution offered. The situation was later blamed on a language barrier, which I do not find acceptable. Emotions, tone, and gestures are universal. I do not recommend it for families with children, light sleepers, non-Japanese speaking, or those that pick their hotels based on Michelin guides - as I pick my hotels based on that always.
Amazing Hotel. Small with incredible attention to detail. Japanese breakfast was beautifully presented! If you want a luxurious Japanese experience stay here.

This hotel was a wonderful mixture of authentic Japanese and western comfort. The tatami mat breakfast area was amazing and the overall experience was 10/10.
Room was spacious, property is beautiful, staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Lots of wonderful local restaurants around!
If you want to be at the center of all the tourist attractions, this location is a bit far from that. But if you want a more local, authentic Kyoto experience, this location is perfection
This is not a hotel. This is an art. Absolutely perfect, till the last detail.
Bit far from the center, but it's close to a bus station.
The kindest people who could not do enough for us. What a lovely stay in a quiet corner of Kyoto. Convenient location for all attractions, the warmest team and a comfortable spacious room. We were staying with our baby and the team went above and beyond to accommodate us. Thank you so much!
Beautiful room, clean, amenities.
Some of the staff were unhelpful for a couple questions we had. We asked for some help calling a restaurant to make a reservation; the person at the desk told me to call myself, which I couldn’t do because I don’t have service in Japan. When we checked out, the person at the desk told us to bring our luggage down from the room ourselves (we were on the 3rd floor with no elevator) which was confusing because they brought our bags up for us when we checked in. We asked for a recommendation for a dry cleaning service, as we had some laundry items we needed dry cleaned. They said they didn’t know what we were asking for and pointed us to the laundry service they partner with and told us to contact them directly. We did, and got no response from the laundry service about our inquiries for dry cleaning vs. laundry. We left our laundry with the front desk to be picked up, and asked again if they could clarify if there was dry cleaning service. They said they would ask when the laundry was picked up. When we returned that evening we were informed there was not dry cleaning available with that company, and we ended up paying their minimum 3,000yen for just a few small items of clothing as our dry cleaning was not picked up. It was too late to find an alternative as we were leaving the next day.
A very friendly and personalised welcome at this smaller and more traditionally Japanese ryokan-style hotel. A low table and cushions, three types of tea, cool jazz in the bedroom, Japanese snacks, and the last word in bathroom automation for bath (taps you have to touch are sooo last century) and WC (mind-blowing!), plus piped birdsong and the sound of running water. It's in a relatively quiet part of town near the Imperial Palace Gardens, but there are plenty of informal restaurants and bars around, and it's on bus routes or a 15 minute walk from the subway station that will have you at the main station in another 15.
Nicest staff ever, large room with comfortable bedding, lots of complimentary things (sweets, tea, refills of bathroom freebies..) with a traditional touch. Loved the tatami floor
Very nice stay, very beautiful bedroom, well connected and friendly staff. Mr Ryuji Matssura was especially helpful, he did a book a very nice restaurant for us in the neighborhood.
Didnt see spa but bath/shower room great.
The most attentive staff you could imagine. Honestly one of the best hotels I’ve stopped at. The rooms are beautiful and the bed was soooo comfortable. I could not recommend this place enough.
My stay at the JUNEI surpassed my expectations. The customer care was amazing. The amenities were bespoke to my needs and the quality of the rooms facilitated the best sleep and relaxation. My advice to family and friends would be to stay at the JUNEI
We had a fabulous stay at THE JUNEI HOTEL Kyoto Imperial Palace West. Our room was immaculately clean, spacious, and thoughtfully appointed with every comfort a guest could desire in a top-tier establishment. The spa-level products in the bathroom and carefully curated tea assortment were exceptional touches that made our stay truly delightful. What elevated our experience beyond expectations was the hotel staff, without question the most considerate and attentive I've ever encountered. Their thoughtful service made every moment of our stay memorable. I couldn't recommend THE JUNEI HOTEL Kyoto Imperial Palace West more highly to any traveler seeking a wonderful stay in Kyoto.
Room too small. Carpet too dingy. Air conditioner and humidifier too loud. Furnishings too worn.
Fantastic hotel. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
Absolutely wonderful stay at the Junei Hotel. The place is serene, exceptionally clean, with amazing service. Our room was spacious and comfortable and our fridge was always stocked with cold beverages after a day of sightseeing. Highly recommend this place.
The property is very nice, clean beautiful setting and quiet neighborhood. The staff is friendly and accommodating. Very nice experience.
Hôtel très bien situé pour visiter Kyoto. Chambre très confortable. Services et prestations au top. Accueil parfait
We had an excellent experience! The staff was amazing, we had the best time in Kyoto! Every detail is very well thought of.
The staff are all incredibly friendly and make us feel genuinely welcome. The room is nice designed, with a calming, zen-like atmosphere that’s perfect for relaxation.
The location isn’t very convenient, but the staff arranged taxis for us, and within just a few minutes they would arrive, making everything much easier.
The staff were so helpful and welcoming. The rooms were spectacular, clean and very comfortable. The kids loved the futon! A bit out of the way from the centre of town but close to the imperial palace.
Tout etait impeccable
The staff is very professional and kind! Thank you, it's also just a lovely respite. The bath for me was heavenly
Hiro was great! Thank you so much for making us feel welcome. Everyone was so helpful and kind. I couldn't have been happier with our choice in hotel.
Our room was large and very compact with a spa located like bathroom. The staff was very accommodating. The neighborhood is quiet and uncontested but convenient to attractions and public transportation.
We had a wonderful stay at the JUNEI HOTEL Imperial palace west! The environment was very traditional Japanese and was very joyful to stay in. My daughters loved the complimentary popsicle offered and the bamboo forest looking bathroom. The staff were super helpful and kind! They helped me find great restaurants near by! We spoke some Japanese to the staff and they loved it (even though it wasn’t amazing). We had the best time and really got to experience the beauty of the traditional Kyoto style! My family loved our stay and would definitely recommend it for anyone wanting to find a cute Japanese hotel to stay in.
Very nice boutique hotel. Small and quiet. Only reason for not giving a perfect review is that the room we had was very musty and moldy smelling.
The hotel staff were just lovely — helpful, friendly, and attentive. We felt very cared for during our stay. The entry spaces felt very tranquil and inviting. The room was clean and comfortable for the four of us, and the property was close to bus stops that got us to where we wanted to go. It felt like a pretty quiet residential area, but there were restaurants and coffee shops nearby (without the tourist mark up).
Only slight downside for us was the location. We often returned to the hotel to freshen up midafternoon, and it would have been a bit easier to have been in walking distance to the area we frequented most (though there are downsides to being in the touristy areas as well).
staff were all so kind and helpful. amenities and welcome gifts were amazing. room facilities are all great quality. hot tub and bathroom in general was top notch.
The JUNEI HOTEL Kyoto Imperial Palace West is the epitome of Japanese hospitality. From the moment my family and I arrived, the staff was friendly and accommodating. We especially wanted to thank Ryuji and Rie for being so kind and welcoming. From our in-room onsen to the futon beds on tatami mats our kids slept on, it felt like we were staying in someone’s home. The room was cozy but enough for a family with two teenagers. We highly recommend this lovely hotel and we would like to stay there again during our next visit to Kyoto.
Excelent Place
Beautiful spacious room, great location, very hospitable and accommodating staff
No negative experiences
It felt like a small personalized hotel. The same kind Japanese gentleman was there to greet us everyday with a smile. It felt like coming home. I also have allergies and it felt cleaner than many hotels I stayed at in Japan. The location was a little out of the way but close enough. We enjoyed being out of the touristy area and being more immersed in the daily Japanese life.
The location was a little out of they way and there was not Ironing board but it is a boutique hotel, maybe that is to be expected in this kind of hotel.
Good location. Staff very friendly. Very clean.
Great property. Staff was very helpful and spoke great English which was a bonus.
