Provider-sourced guest reviews.
We arrived after their 3:30 office hours but they had given us good direcions on how to get into the room. The first floor room faced a busy so with the blinds closed it was very dark. The bedroom was up a steep flight of stairs. The bathroom and kitchen area were on the floor level. The manager agreed to move us to a unit without stairs. It was much larger but the shower had mold all over it. Of all the breakfasts we had on our 3 week trip this one was not good. We rebooked at a different hotel. I didn't request a refund because the manager had been so nice. I booked all my hotels from recommendations in the Fodor's Essential Greece and this was the only one which didn't live up to my expectations.
Great hotel, cute maisonette, amazing location surrounded by so many fabulous restaurants, shops and even the harbour is close (10 min walk max). Many bus stops around to go to Knossos, and beaches. Breakfast was great, staff super nice. Bathroom is small but it serves its purpose :). Would come back without hesitation😍
We’ll-located, excellent value for money, friendly service.
Right in the heart of downtown Heraklion, this cosy hotel is a short walk from all the shops, restaurants and attractions. The room was modern and clean with breakfast included and was close to everything.
We absolutely loved our time at this hotel and we would stay here again for sure!!!
For the price it is amazing. Less than 10 minutes walking to the town hall and the shop and restaurants area. Also, 10 min walk to the harbour and fortress. The room was really spacious. Bathroom was great. The breakfast was simple but what is needed. You can try park in the street, otherwise there is a big 24h Parking 5 min walk. I would say the only thing it was that we arrived on Monday, as we had to call someone to get access to the room. But after getting the door code, key was there and it was all easy.
The room itself was great, only thing is could have had an extra bottle of shower gel. However the main issue was the door, the key needs to be inserted at a specific angle and turned very specifically. If not, you risk being locked out & waiting for help. Thankfully we only stayed one night. This is not a new thing, previous reviews have mentioned as well. No 24/7 reception in case u go out and get locked out. Emergency number available but we were asked "what did you do to the door". Anyway, if this is an issue for you, please find alternate hotels to stay in
We were really disappointed in most everything about this hotel - it was not at all what was advertised and we felt completely overpriced for what we got. The room was old and generally tired and grubby. The downstairs comprised of a space with two armchairs with dirty fabric, and a kitchenette and bathroom. Tea/coffee supplies were not replenished and once we’d used the cups on day 1 we had no way to clean them and those too were not replaced. The bathroom is tiny and shower had mould in it. In the room there is only one small mirror in the bathroom so it’s not easy to get dressed up nicely for an evening out. Upstairs the bedroom is too small for two bedside tables so one person has to put their belongings on the floor between the bed and the wall. Housekeeping dropped off new towels when we asked but aside from that there was no housekeeping service. After 3pm we had no access to the courtyard area because the reception closes at 3pm. All of above is ok if you’re paying 2 star prices but the hotel was expensive and very overpriced for what we got. Would not recommend at all.
We had a very pleasant stay at this hotel, we had the very spacious maisonette. Amenities were available, we had hot drinksand also complimentary water throughput our stay. The breakfast was a highlight, lovely fresh, local food, whilst sitting in the beautiful patio. The downside was the tiny bathroom where the showerscreen didnt really stop the water spilling every.
Very cute and comfortable place in a great location.
Hôtel très bien situé à 10 mètres des rues piétonnes du centre ville. Le personnel est agréable et disponible. La chambre était très propre malgré une fuite dans la douche. Je recommande vivement cet établissement!
Very nice property! Perfect location. Super clean. The staff was very nice and helpful. The only problem is there is not a lot of parking options around if you have a car. Would definitely go back.
It took me 15 mins to get the Masonette door open because the lock is screwed up. Very loud upstairs people, scooters zooming by all hours of the night. Loud music. No parking walked 5 blocks for parking
The location is incredible to access the centre of Heraklion and buzzing night life within a very short walk. We arrived late which and had no problem to access our room with the key in the lock box. We were exceptionally lucky with parking and found a space in front of the property - looking at the local parking I think we were one in 1000 to find this though! The hosts are incredibly helpful and hospitable, we had a lovely stay!
Excellente location dans la vielle ville. On peut garer la voiture à moins de 5 minutes de marche. Le petit déjeuner est extraordinaire.
Beautiful courtyard Room had wonderful character Friendly and helpful staff Shower was missing one glass wall / door so was not enclosed so water was able to get all over floor.
The location cannot get better, literally steps away from the central square. Nice, big room, small little kitchen with water/ tea/ coffee facilities, comfy mattress, spotless clean, good healthy Cretan breakfast. Will definitely book it again in the future.
We really enjoyed the Veneziano Boutique Hotel. We stayed in the maisonette, which was a funky, two-level suite (steep stairs - not recommended for anyone with mobility issues). The air conditioning worked well and it was a comfortable space. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was really delicious and eaten in a lovely courtyard. All the great restaurants and museums were within walking distance. We would definitely stay here again.
I was locked out of this hotel and then charged for the hotel! I booked this hotel through hotels.com and arrived at approximately 11pm on my first visit to Crete. The hotel was pitch black and this was confusing because check in was supposed to be open until midnight so i thought the hotel was closed. A few days later I noticed I had been charged for that night when I did not stay there. When I went back through Heraklion I visited the hotel and spoke with the staff ( who were very nice) but the owners would not correct the situation indicating that I had not called the emergency number outside the building and so they had no responsibility to me. The room was ready and I should have called the emergency line. I told them I thought the hotel was closed and that I did not have an emergency.... only a closed check-in. They left me at night in a strange city to find another hotel and then charged me for it. The owner/manager is a terrible policy slave who simply hides behind the fine print and has forgotten the spirit of hospitality. This owner could have easily remedied this and done the right thing but was simply greedy and id not care because he had my money already.
The stuffs are very nice, response to message quickly. The location is very good, close to all attractions in the city. The only concern is that I smell mold in the bed and towels, it is a nice small hotel, but I don’t think it is 4 stars.
Great location near Morosini fountain. Room was nicely appointed and the building is very cool. Friendly and helpful staff.
Oh boy. Not sure where to start here - this "hotel" bills itself as a boutique hotel but in reality its a collection of old dated rooms in the most undesirable location in town, with no front desk, no attendant, no bellman, no reception, no security, and the kind of place that will email you *the day of* check in to tell you good luck checking in thru a lock-box on your own, there will be no one at the property to check you in or help you. There is also no parking, and the area is not only extremely dirty and grungy but borderline unsafe and dangerous. What's worse, the hotel then argued that this is satisfactory service or an acceptable way to casually treat clients! The property itself is adequate - small empty courtyard. No attendant, no guests. It felt like we were breaking into our room. The room was very, very dated. We stayed in a superior double and they very cleverly photographed the room with a stair case implying multiple levels and a lofty size... no, it's a stair case you can access but with a locked door to no where. At no point in the reservation did it say that this was 1/2 of a conjoined room. Why is there a staircase taking up half of the living room space to an area that is blocked off? Your guess is as good as mine. At the end of the day, we stayed at a 5 star hotel for exactly the same price as this terrible, ugly, unsafe room. I cannot tell you louder to run away from this area. We thought we were literally going to be robbed here.
Unfortunately this "hotel" was probably the worst accommodation experience I've had in my life. Let's start with them calling us from a random number telling me hours before we were going to check in that no one was going to be on site. That's right, there would be no staff. They left our key in a lockbox and said good luck. Getting this information thru a cell phone call traveling internationally with someone who does not speak clear English was enough of an issue, but once we arrived we were shocked by how terrible dirty and unsafe the neighborhood felt. There were people loitering around the property, looking at our car after we parked and we thought they were going to steal it or worse - all the while, fussing with a lock box combination with zero help from the front staff- because they all decided to go home. Once we got in, the room itself was incredibly dated and musty. The pictures they list must have been of the best room possible with new linens, since our linens looked like they were from 1980. We literally walked in and walked right out. I have never left a place so quickly and booked a new hotel a few blocks away at a MUCH much better neighborhood and hotel (Astoria Capsis, which was very good and literally the same price - which is to say that this place was very very overpriced). there is also no parking, literally anywhere - small streets, narrow driveways, no parking available. I think the worst part of the whole experience was the hotel then attempted to censor the review and bully their customers. You can't call yourself a Hotel if you are a collection of old rooms around an abandoned courtyard with a lockbox to enter. Even hostels have more service and amenities. Instead we thought we were going to be robbed. DO not stay here - literally save yourself.
Rooms were great however no air conditioning for two day stay. When you call for after hours assistance re AC no response. Breakfast was good. In the heat if Heraklion not to have AC isn’t acceptable when no other alternatives available
Very good choice. True to the reviews. Very clean, classy, friendly stuff and helpful.
*Please read entire review for safety* This hotel is an absolute danger to anyone visiting. Please do not stay here My wife and I spent several weeks traveling across Greece and this was the only hotel we felt was truly unsafe -We arrived to check into the hotel around 5pm to find the reception doors locked. No note or instructions. In a very rough area of town. Finally, about 2-3 hours later, an email came through giving us instructions to get our key from a lockbox because the office closes at 2pm -We had to walk around the side of the building to a door in the alley. The door was wide open and we could hear men talking/laughing inside. They got quiet when they heard us enter. The actual door to our room was right at the opening of the alley, just a foot away from it -We heard random people screaming and shouting just outside of our door/windows all night. And inside the “secure hallway” -We walked to dinner to a place called Burger Labs (which was great) but on the way home, a man was following us down the alleyway. He stood and watched us enter our room -We stayed awake the entire night and debated leaving, as anyone could have burst in from the busy alley any time. But because we had to park our rental car 20 minutes away, it was safer to wait til daylight to escape -The next morning we left the hotel. They refused to give us a refund for the second night we paid for. But we decided to feel grateful to be alive and left anyway Horrifying stay
Fantastic location, beautiful, yet modernized ancient building. The courtyard area where breakfast is served is magnificent: Trees, flowers, tastefully decorated. Eggs made to order. Great shower and bathroom.
We had to leave before breakfast was served to catch a ferry and they kindly packed us a meal to take away. Great service. I recommend this quaint property for the service and great location.
The manager of the property welcomed us warmly with a refreshing drink and a smile. She made us feel right at home. She also included a snack tray and a complementary bottle of wine as a gift for our honeymoon visit. Truly fine hospitality.
From the moment we arrived, we fell in love with this place! We were greeted by a young host named Ionnis, who would prove to be a vital part of our stay. He grabbed our bags and ushered us into the café dining room and said he'd be right back. He prepared a couple of refreshing drinks and left us to settle in, but was never far away. When we finished our drinks, he showed us to our room. The central part of the hotel is open to the elements and airy, despite being a smaller space. We asked where we could grab some dinner later, and Ionnis was on point with recommendations and directions. He also set up taxis for our sightseeing destinations. Our last night, we sat out in front of the hotel at the cafe, and again, Ionnis was taking care of our every need. What WAS going to be just a couple of drinks turned into an evening of drinking, snacks, and conversation! The owners are usually on site. We met and spoke with them on many occasions during our stay. Everyone was fantastic with service, care and attention!
My husband, son and I had a wonderful stay here. When we arrived we were given a very refreshing berry spritzer in the courtyard. It felt so welcoming after our long day of travel. The room was very comfortable and the old world ambience was inviting. The breakfast was very good: eggs, bacon, yogurt, croissants, muffins, juice, and more. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We stayed there our first night and the last night of our trip to Crete. At the end of our trip we were required to get a COVID test. Unsure where to get it, we asked the owners and staff. All worked hard to find just the right place for us to go. Everyone was so warm and welcoming that we felt like family. It was hard to leave.
The hotel itself is very artistic with ornate rooms and accessories. The rooms have a small kitchen with required utensils. We spent 2 nights here and it was really nice. The beds were really comfortable. The location of the hotel is superb and directly in the city center. You can reach to the lively places in Heraklion and explore the night life which is just 2 min by walk from this place. The people at the reception are very warm and very helpful. They helped us to book a rapid corona test with a hospital. They also helped us book the ferry. They also provided us with a breakfast package since our ferry was going to leave early the next day. Nevertheless, there were some small things which can be improved. The air conditioner is located in a weird place, which takes a lot of time to cool both the rooms. The air is obstructed by the cupboard which is directly in front of the air conditioner.
This is an amazing hotel! The staff are very friendly and helpful. We were offered refreshing grapefruit soda while we completed the check-in paperwork. The room was unforgettable! It had a living space and kitchenette-ish area (sink and mini-fridge) on the ground floor, then a master-suite in the loft above. The bed was comfortable and had a variety of pillows. The wifi was excellent and allowed me to work remotely for a few hours in the living area. Breakfast in the morning was good, but nothing special (croissants, yogurt, cereal, meats). The only things I wish for is that the A/C was more efficient and that the electrical outlets fit my adapter more tightly (though we were able to make it work).
The room we had a lovely, just as shown in the pictures on the website. The breakfast courtyard was a stunning setting for a relaxed breakfast where they couldn’t do enough for you. Very friendly staff and close to the centre of town with loads of bars and restaurants.
We arrived late after a delayed flight and received a warm welcome. Despite being late at night, staff were very helpful arranging food when the kitchen had closed. We had a lovely courtyard room, clean with good air Con. We enjoyed a peaceful nights sleep with comfy beds. Well located to walk to the harbour. A good introduction to beautiful Crete! The breakfast was spectacular and of very good quality. Thank you to the chef.
The hotel is beautiful and everyone is very friendly and accommodating.
I stayed here overnight with my daughter and husband at Christmas. We wanted to do a little shopping in Heraklion and have a nice meal in the center. I really enjoyed my stay. I got a very warm welcome, and the guy that checked us in gave us a brief but good talk about the services, etc. My daughter (24) and I had a fab lunch with wine in the courtyard, and the following day a good breakfast with lots of choice. There is cheap parking nearby and we enjoyed our brief stay. Our suite was a little smaller than I hoped but there is lots of outside communal space so it wasn't an issue for us.
We stayed at this hotel for 4 days. Such value for money. Great service from Nikos, Stella and Dimitris made our stay here wonderful. Felt like being at home. Food, cleanliness, facilities, and professional service made this a great stay. Located in the heart of the old city, access from the port is easy. Great shopping and sight seeing. When in Crete this is the place to stay if you want the comfort of home when you travel.
The photos online have nothing to do with reality. An old restored building which is just ok. The rooms are small, nothing like the photos. Very very poor breakfast. There isn’t even a proper breakfast room. There is a wooden prefabricated kind of a room which is used as a breakfast room. I read a review from someone saying that he had his best breakfast over there. Did he ever go to another hotel in his life??? The location is very good and the staff is very helpful and friendly.
We really enjoyed this little place. The style of the room was lovely, modern, chic and comfortable. The breakfast was generous and very tasty. The staff were friendly and helpful. The location as ideal for us....we were a short walk from everything in the old town. The only suggestion would be to add a little more storage for clothing and accessories....either a shelf, a few hooks or some drawers would have been useful. Would definitely come stay here again. Thank you!
I don't need to rehash what other people have said here about how this boutique hotel is charming, cute and with great guest service because that is all true. You are definitely going to get a unique and more personalized experience here than at some big chain hotel. Just a few quibbles, and one complaint. Quibbles: the room decor is cool; a nice mix of historic/renovated and contemporary. But the lighting was off. In my bedroom area, there was either a choice of glaring lighting, or otherwise it was too dim. Also, you don't need television sets in boutique rooms like this. They look odd sticking out from the walls. Also note this is a very urban location, meaning you may not get a lot of natural light. Complaint: the breakfast -- while I absolutely appreciated the freshly squeezed orange juice and good strong coffee, the bread basket was a quiet disaster and the prepared hot egg dish came to me cold along with some token sliced fruit (not appealing at all) and a fatty piece of mystery meat and I sent it back. It came back in a different version and warm, but not as described in the menu and with another piece of fatty mystery meat that, had they spent a little more time and effort, could have been a nice strip of bacon or sausage. Again the service was totally friendly, but when you are charging guests upwards of $100 a night for a four-star style room with breakfast included, and then serve them stuff like that, it's time to spend a little more on better ingredients and maybe hire a new chef. Because breakfast is the most important meal of the day -- and good orange juice and coffee alone don't make a hotel brekkie make the cut. For more candid travel reviews do check out tripquakedotcom
Lovely hotel. No complaints about anything. Great location with lots to see and do nearby. Spacious and comfortable.
Anazing quiet and historic hotel with nice staff and walkable to the center of town.
The staff was wonderful but the rooms were very small. The two bedroom flat we had did not look like the pictures so we were surprised when we got there. The area that it is in was a little unexpected. We had to walk to get there because the taxi was unable to reach due to parked cars. The staff was very helpful and nice however!
It is not a four star even though it was listed as such. It was noisy, there is no lounge area and there were bugs in the shower.
We arrived late evening and sat outside at the Cafe enjoying a late supper. The room was on the ground floor at the front with a split mezzanine floor for the bedroom. A typical Cretan style room. Spacious and clean with a wonderful shower. Breakfast was all made to order from a menu. Served in their inner courtyard. Excellent staff who were always pleasant and made time to chat.
The staff is exceptionally helpful and pleasant. Margarita was unrelenting when finding a desired tour.
The staff was so friendly and accommodating, we felt immediately at home. We only stayed one night but loved our time there: from the comfort of our room, the beautiful restauration of the hotel, the wonderful breakfast in the courtyard, the central location of the hotel within walking distance to ice cream shops, restaurants, bakeries, museums and beautiful sites and last but not least, the warm welcome from the staff there who treated us like family. We cannot wait to come back!
Lovely unique property in great location. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Nice big room and friendly staff, loved the location however need to be aware they are stairs for those people with mobility problems, not the right place. The rest was great
Rooms were warm, too light and noisy. However, the location and staff made it worthwhile. Breakfast was included and amazing.
Really cute little place. We were welcomed by a really nice gentleman who showed us the hotel and told us the history behind it. There’s also a cafe, bar and restaurant in the hotel, so you don’t have to go far for drinks and food. Very close to Heraklion port and bus station. We arrived from Chania by bus and it was a 15 minute walk to the hotel through a nice shopping district. Also close to the port. Dinner was really good! The only thing I didnt like was the shower head.
Great location to the city centre and good food and service
The staff was AMAZING!! SO friendly, offered recommendations, called taxis and were the best! The rooms were beautiful! Historic and trendy! Great distance to everything. When we’re back in Heraklion, we’re staying HERE!
Lovely hotel in a great location. They go above and beyond to make sure you have a good stay. Highly recommended!
Very welcoming on arrival
Excellent situation in heart of old town. Extremely friendly and helpful staff
A warm wlecome and an excellent breakfast
Beautiful spot in the center of town. The staff is exceptionally welcoming and kind. We sadly only had a short time passing through Heraklion, but we were overly surprised on how great it was! Look forward to returning soon!
Very freindly. Great food all sourced from a local farm
Excellent breakfast, perfect room & the most exquisite hotel bed we've ever slept in!
Good hotel in central position with very helpful and friendly staff. Excellent breakfast with great service. Not sure if I would describe as a Boutique Hotel but perfect for our overnight stay.
We liked everything about this hotel from its location just 5 minuets walk to the city centre, all the staff were fantastic in every way nothing was too much trouble and they even spoke to you about you food in detail where it was from etc. Very clean with good sized rooms and good facilities in the rooms. Would recommend.
Very cute hotel with a great breakfast. The stairs to get to the rooms would challenge people with mobility issues.
very charming boutique hotel with affable and helpful service. Liked having the windows open, but heard noise off and on at night...didn't realize there was air conditioning; slightly funky neighborhood, but safe and very convenient to many things.
A great place to stay near the airport and port. The owner has done a great job of keeping the essence of the past with modern amenities. Great lighting, small kitchen, living space, and the upstairs bed/bath is charming and comfortable. On site cafe and and bar offers romantic atmosphere, good menu, and great coffee. Staff is very friendly and accommodating.
Central location. A little crammed but everything is clean and staff is very responsive and willing to accommodate which is always great
I had a lot of changes that happened with my travel schedule and the owner and staff of the Veneziano Hotel were extremely helpful. The service was really wonderful and the rooms and shared spaces were very comfortable and aesthetically pleasing. The hotel was a short walk from the Heraklion port, the market square, many restaurants and a small bus ride from the Knossos Palace. The archaeology museum is maybe a 10 minute walk away so I really recommend it if you want easy access to many activities.
The hotel was beautiful and the staff was beyond amazing! Maria and George especially, but everyone in general went above and beyond for us with the kids. The property itself was so unique, with attention to every detail. The breakfast was amazing! Everything was so fresh! We also had dinner and the quality and taste were top notch!! I can’t wait to go back. One night was not enough.
Great welcome! Beautiful historic building lovingly restored.
The room was fantastic - clean, spacious, and beautifully furnished. Very quiet too, we slept like babies. Breakfast was excellent. The staff could not have been more helpful.
Absolutely superb service, from the time we arrived late at night to the time we left the following afternoon. The staff is amazing!
Amazing! Cute boutique hotel. Staff was so welcoming and nice.
This is not a Réal kitchen. No table , no pans.the Chambers is very nice
This was a great hotel experience. The owner and her staff could not have been nicer, the breakfast was very good and generous, and the rooms were lovely. One of the best hotel experiences in years.
Great hotel, service, and restaurant in the center of Herkalion. If steps are an issue, I don't think it's a good choice for you. I didn't notice an elevator. One of the few breakfast included hotels that served a complete breakfast, not just continental.
The hotel is beautifully restored with well furnished room, attentive and friendly staff and good food. The downstairs bar and cafe area is a lovely situation for drinks or to eat. A great central location.
Exceptionally friendly service at Reception and in the Cafe Bar. The room was immaculate and very comfortable
Tiny boutique hotel in the middle of town. Close to everything but still quiet enough.
We sadly only stayed on our last in Crete, because it was WONDERFUL. The parking was a little tricky but we were able to find a spot close by and they helped us with our bags. The service was great. We were leaving early in the morning for the airport, before they would be serving breakfast. So they made up a plate for us the night before and brought it up to our room. We stayed in a very nice room with high ceilings and a really comfy queen size bed. They have a very nice and quiet courtyard style bar/restaurant. The service was again impeccable. It was a short walk to the water, shopping, archeological museum and more. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a little low key luxury.
The hotel was very new having undergone a major renovation in a historic area...the staff was amazing and couldn't do enough for us...the breakfast was excellent and the atmosphere very quaint....
Hotel itself is very pleasant and atmospheric. Service is excellent, food is great. Thank you
This is a fabulous boutique hotel with fascinating rooms!! Lovely people and great food. I would highly recommend. The surrounding streets were not in the best of state but we didn;t venture out so it didn;t matter!
Nice cozy little hotel at the center of Heraklion. Newly renovated, friendly staff, great location.
Charming little hotel in a quiet but central neighbourhood. The room was quirky and the bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept in in Greece! A great place to rest after a long journey.
This hotel was absolutely fantastic in any way!! Very beautiful pittoresk room, super friendly staff and breakfast was great!! It's a hidden gem right in the heart of Heraklion!! We enjoyed our stay very much!!
Brand new hotel tucked away in a quiet corner and it is a real gem!!! As the name suggests, it did remind me of Venice! The front desk for check-in is tucked away in a tiny corridor beside the stairs and you walk past this to an enchanting little courtyard with bistro-type tables and chairs. Our room was a maisonette with a sitting room (with a double size sofa bed) & kitchenette on the main floor and bedroom and tiny bathroom on the second level. Breakfast was included and it is a FULL breakfast with several types of bread, croissants, ham, cheese AND eggs & bacon! Choice of coffee or fresh orange juice came with it also. The staff are superb - so friendly and helpful!!! I would definitely come back!
