Reviewed Sep 19, 2026We like the hotel location right in the center of town, close to the Margaret Mahy playground and Victoria Square. They gave us a free upgrade to a junior suite because the room category we booked wasn’t available. Room and beddings were comfortable.
Check in process was slower compared to other hotels or motels we had stayed in. Besides, there were 2 bottles of shampoo provided in our shower, and no shower gel. Housekeeping probably not thorough enough.

Not so much dislike but just a note that having eaten at 1851 Social a number of times, we noticed that different menus and subsequent meals were available at different tables.

近隣の大手スーパー3ヶ所まで少し遠いと感じた。 ランドリーがなかったと思う。しかし事前にわかっていたので、すごく困ったというわけではない。 あまり慣れてないこともあって、シャワーカーテンの使い方が難しかった。

They accidentally assigned us an accessible room, and our key card didn’t work on arrival. Since we arrived very late at night, the mix-up was a little frustrating. However, the staff resolved the issue quickly and efficiently, which we appreciated.

Firstly was given a room that looked out to an exhaust Then charged an up grade for another room just two doors up extra $60 Tried to use the washer and drier it did t work and dirtied all my clothes They then washed them for me but all in all they need better maintenance of the rooms Stand light did t work Dryer did t work and the shower hose was leaking

Reviewed Jul 6, 2026I stayed for 4 nights for a conference at the Te Pae Convention Center (located right next door to the hotel). It turned out to be an outstanding hotel experience in the heart of Christchurch, accessible (walking distance) to wonderful restaurants and attractions and tram stop. Some great restaurants such as the Odeon and Edizi - where we had some wonderful dining experiences with friends. Uber pick up point at door step. The rooms looked recently renovated (I stayed on the 10th floor, in a King room). The room was clean and crisp and had an excellent bed / pillow menu. The bathroom was good with a nice rain shower. Accessible power sockets, and a very practical small desk for working on a lap top (intuitive power points). Very good housekeeping service. Room service is available 24/7 (I ordered in on my first evening) and this is always a positive. Staff at reception (Amy, Ashika) went over and beyond to make my stay comfortable, especially with suggestions for dining options and going over and beyond in adjusting my room temperature which was too cold for my liking on the first night. I travel very frequently for work, and this is not always the case at other hotels I have stayed at. Thank you. With IHG membership, which I had, it is possible to get an extended check out time, although I wasn't looking for a late check out on this occasion. Christchurch is a beautiful city - brimming with character, history and an overwhelming sense of collective resilience. I will be visiting again, and staying at the Crowne Plaza, without hesitation.
The room could sometimes get noisy from the proximity to the lifts, and possibly plumbing, but this did not bother me after the first night.
