Provider-sourced guest reviews.
It was fantastic. Perfect location for everything including the beach . Staff amazing. Breakfast delicious
The staff were all very good but severely overworked, the lady in the restaurant for breakfast was lovely, but needed help as she was doing nearly everything so unfortunately things weren't brilliant but that's not her fault. Ewan who was the only person on duty later in the day was a great fella but was receptionist, barman and getting things ready for the morning, on his own!
The photos of the rooms are not accurate, the 1st room was dirty with cobwebs and dust, the shower was mouldy, the grout and sealant was black, the curtains were too long for the windows which had to be kept closed as there was no nets, so anyone walking past could see in, this was a basic room but not worth the money, also I had to pay £90 extra for breakfast for 2 of us for 3 days, but to be honest it wasn't worth it! We upgraded for the 2nd and 3rd nights of our stay, £44 extra! it was better but still badly decorated, and fittings in the bathroom were rusted and discoloured without a towel rail, the room wasn't cleaned whilst we were out so there was no extra tea coffee etc/bins emptied, bed made! We didn't use the pool but it looked like it needed cleaning. The outside was generally unkempt, the restaurant was closed in the evening so we went elsewhere for an evening meal, I don't like giving bad reviews but we were disappointed with this (boutique)hotel 😔
It was in an ok position.
No lifts, not enough parking & what there was, was not in good condition or site. I slipped & fell in the parking area, could not get up by myself, had help from my husband & daughter. Am bruised in my operated on knees & ankle. Husband is bruised too trying to save me from slipping on the shingly surface. No help from the hotel other than an offer of an ice pack. No other check ups made or fall recorded in their accident book!
Good location, lovely friendly staff. Comfortable beds and great breakfast choices. Added bonus of having a pool and sauna. We have stopped in quite a few Hotels in Shanklin over the last 20 plus years and this Hotel is one of the best.
Nothing
Very nice place very clean people really lovely and helpful. Be lovely to go back again.
Very nice
Natalie who works on reception and helps with the bar, the resteraunt and the washing was friendly and did all she could to help.
Rooms were poorly equipped and dirty. There was not one shelf or hook even in the bathroom to put anything on. Really poor workmanship throughout. Bathroom doors which dont close or with latches that catch on the wall cladding. Broken slabs which are loose on the steps to reception. Inadequate parking. Broken steps around pool and lots of tiles missing. Generally dirty and poorly maintained. Tvs that either dont work or are difficult to use. No welcome book or information books. Poor local knowledge by staff. Pictures on booking.com are cleverly taken and not a true reflection of the premise. Not worth the money we paid. Infact we left 2 days early even after noticing there was a no refund policy!
Very helpful staff Swimming pool and sauna a real bonus Comfortable room Good breakfast

Firstly Ewan who was on reception/bar & acting manager was very helpful, however the hotel was truly dreadful. How anyone could rate anything this grim above 1 out of ten is beyond me. The room we were given was appalling we could not have stayed there it was so bad. Ewan understood & tried to give us an alternative room but this was almost as bad and did not suit our needs due to being on the 2nd floor & not having a walk in shower. We asked for a refund for the 2 nights we had paid for but were refused as Ewan did not have this authority so we asked for the name & number of the hotel owner which he refused to give us as he said they were away. The list of complaints is endless there is no provision for food except breakfast even thought the hotel sign outside clearly states there is a bistro. The jacuzzi adverised was broken the pool area looked untidy very scruffy & even dirty, totally uninviting. The large lounge was tasteless, dark & dingy with absolutely no redeeming features to entice anyone to sit there. The bedroom was in need of re decoration the furniture was old & broken, the curtains were half hanging off, the shower was so small you could even turn round in it & the bathroom had no sink as it wouldn't have fitted one , so they had installed one by the bed. It was so squashed in there wasnt space to stand to wash properly . There was a screen that hung on the wall which was almost falling off & looked dangerous. The door to the bathroom had peeling paint and looked damaged and the whole room was in really bad condition. It was tiny for a twin room & the beds were so soft we would never have been able to sleep in them. I never normally never leave a review & I have stayed in hundreds of hotels but the most basic Travelodge is infinitely superior to this hotel. Do not stay there unless you have no expectations.
Ewan was a nice chap
very low water pressure unable to shower Monday morning door kept banging all night even though it was closed toilet seat lid broken Breakfast is a rip off for example if i just wanted poached egg on a slice of toast this would cost £15.00 no adjustment in cost late check in due to room not being cleaned
The hotel staff were exceptional but over-stretched. They flitted between reception, bar, restaurant and so on. One can see that there is a plan to elevate the property, but it lacked in certain areas. The shower was more of a trickle, the room cluttered with an oversized television. The room was clean , the bed comfortable. Breakfast delicous

Overall lovely stay , pool was charming and private - lovely front garden and well maintained hotel no complaints about any of it really as we slept well and the location was lovely , the sauna was off and we were informed it was working and the breakfast young woman - I believe daughter in the family made us feel a little like she didn’t really want to serve us due to her unwelcoming approach on entry to the dining area. Aside from this we had a wonderful time and would recommend to someone staying in the area on a sunny weekend .
Room too small without a desk
Wonderful hotel in a superb location, perfect for couples. The transport links are excellent, and the bus service is great. The staff were fabulous and very friendly. The hotel is decorated to a high standard, and we had a wonderful time celebrating our wedding anniversary.
Very minor point — the shower pressure was quite low, and personally I’m not a fan of shower curtains.
The breakfast was ok, very long wait, location was very good
The price for what we got was terrible, they were not dulux rooms, we had no windows that opened, very small room with very big furniture
Everything
Nothing
Everything was excellent, the location couldn’t be better, close to the train station and beach (10min walking). After a day of exploring, the pool was the perfect spot to unwind. The sauna and jacuzzi were absolute highlights of my stay.
Close to amenities and a small but functional hotel with very friendly staff and decent facilities, hot tub, small pool and a bar open at convenience.
Rooms were dated, a little cramped and lacking in good sound proofing between them.
Location was excellent
Pool was excellent ,staff very friendly. Free parking
Nothing
A beautiful hotel, boutique style with a lovely.freindly atmosphere. Dogs friendly, comfortable beds and high quality electrical goods, the outdoor pool was absolutely stunning.
Interesting,it’s well positioned for local things like shops and restaurants
It looks great but if you look closely the finish isn’t great.
Very good. Fruit was very seasonal
The size of the room was very disappointing. We thought having a larger bed we would get more space in the room as well. There could have been a shower screen instead of a curtain. The bathroom was very tight and we are not large people.
Staff friendly nothing too much trouble
There was just alittle detail which needed a dressing paintwork very dusty fan and tiles in shower alittle bleach would fetch them up great but overall a very pleasant stay
Great location, staff were really friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent and the hotel it self was brilliant, loved it, hopefully we'll come back soon! Having an outside pool was an absolute bonus!!
Nothing
Room 24 shower wasn’t working properly. The fans weren’t working properly due to lack of cleaning in all the rooms we had booked.
Lounge and cleaning
Room was small and the shower must have been the worse I’ve experienced shower toilet in one room and sink in the bedroom
The hotel was lovely, clean and comfortable. The staff were really friendly and breakfast was good.
The only downside was the shower - it wasn't very powerful .
Great staff and lovely public area of the hotel. A lovely atmosphere.
I didn't like my single room which had no ventilation in the shower area and the decor was shabby.
Personeel, locatie en ontbijt
Relatief kleine kamer met slechte douche/badkamer.
Staff were lovely. Very friendly. Lovely atmosphere. Very peaceful
TV kept losing signal had to auto tune a few times.
The bed was very comfy
Nothing
Breakfast good value for money. The location was in a beautiful place
The shower I much prefer a bath ,the rooms were very hot
Good location. Friendly, welcoming staff. Grateful for a ground floor twin room. Bright breakfast room and good choices both in buffet and cooked to order. Lovely to have a swimming pool ... disappointing it wasn't opened until after breakfast.
Surprised by no overhead shower in our bathroom. Bathroom could do with a towel rail or a few hooks for wet towels and swimwear. Positioning of TV in the room unusually high.
Good outside with pool Plenty of seating
The room bathroom plumbing could be updated
Nice Rooms - good location
Terrible showers with little hot water in the evening or morning - expensive
The reception area and the gardens are lovely. Lovely pool area, however the water was too warm for the time of year. Jazz who worked there was a delight. Breakfast very good anything you want and cooked well.
Where do you want me to start. On arrival it was quite busy with guests arriving, they had a new staff member Steven it was his first day he was trying so hard to do everything himself checking guests in and serving the bar on a hot day. The owners were there but did not appear at all he had to keep going to them to ask questions. I had rung the hotel before confirming my booking to check where the deluxe superior room was I was told one flight of stairs about 10 steps with railings on either side. When we arrived it was a wide staircase with only a railing on one side. They were understanding about giving us another room however it was just a double, the room was really small, the shower trickled out I couldn’t was my hair in it. We eventually got into our room at 5pm. It The rooms were extremely hot. The other thing we noticed was that guests were not allowed to order food in the evening and eat it in the outside area, considering they don’t serve food we found this to be a bit off, especially in the extreme weather. We were offered a partial refund which took 3 weeks to appear in my bank after a few emails. What was meant to be a lovely relaxing break was very disappointing.
Excellent breakfast and very kind and welcoming staff. The location is excellent, too. Also great for exploring the Isle of Wight by bike, as it is safe and easy to park a bike by the hotel.
I had been looking forward to spending a few hours by the pool and going for a swim in it, however, seeing a number of other guests enter the pool in t-shirts and shorts (not swimwear) quickly made me change my mind.
The room was amazing, beautiful. Really appreciated the fan in the room Close to the beach and high street shops as well as restaurants and transport The pool area was amazing
Very welcoming owner . Family business Absolutely stunning and lovely place for short or long breaks. Doggies friendly 5 minutes walk to the beach and local food and drink places. 10 min to local town and shops Excellent
Nothing .
Outdoor pool and room
No evening meal
We booked last minute. The staff were very welcoming and made our dog welcome. Bed were very comfortable. The location was great.
Attention to detail in every way. The family were awesome and welcoming. Sauna and hot tub extra treat.
Only suggestion was perhaps softer pillow but that's literally the only thing which comes to mind
We had a fantastic stay and were especially impressed by how genuinely dog-friendly the hotel was. Our dog was made to feel just as welcome as we were, with thoughtful touches, such as asking if your pet would like a sausage at breakfast. The staff were warm, friendly, and happy to accommodate us throughout our stay. The room was clean and comfortable, and the hotel was in a great location. It was wonderful to stay somewhere that doesn't just allow dogs but truly welcomes them. We would happily return and highly recommend this hotel to anyone travelling with their four-legged companion.
There was nothing that we did not like. We had a wonderful stay.
The location
The hotel was very dated and didn't look like the pictures.
Pleasant staff. Good breakfast handy for town centre
Inadequate parking and limited on street parking. Ultra low level lighting in bedroom wash basin in room not with toilet or shower compartment which was small although room was large enough for a larger en suite. Tv was complex to operate had to get help a couple of times.
Parkplätze sind mangelware.
Breakfast was good quality and hearty.
Luxurious decor, loads of lights. Only a 10 min walk to town.
Room facilities basic. No chair, no hooks. Small bathroom, no anti slip in bath for shower. Bedding not suitable for hot weather. New TV not set up to be able to watch.
Good location , the bar, breakfast room and lounge area were of a high standard. Very helpful reception staff.
Very small bedroom and minute dated bathroom , not in line with standard of room booked.
Swimming pool sauna hot tub the bed was comfortable two fans provided for the hot weather brilliant breakfast and lovely bar area
The shower was very slow could do with a power shower
Hotel was boutique style and very comfortable.
The location was very good. Easy walk to boulevard and to the city centre. The room was clean and had a large couch, which was convenient. Netflix was available. Staff were really very friendly. Nice swimming pool (which we used with pleasure) and even a sauna (which we did not use). Breakfast was good. Beds were good too. It was very hot when we stayed here. The hotel provided 2 fans, which we very much appreciated.
Maybe it's a typical complaint from foreigners: why is it always needed to shower in the bathtub, while staying in British hotels? We consider this very unpleasant, especially when there is a shower curtain that keeps on wrapping itself around you while showering. In this room the curtain was even very close as it was hanging 10 or 20 centimetres within the bathtub. Also the water pressure was low and it took very long before the water to get warm. So the shower experience was not what we would expect from a quality hotel.
Friendly staff, cool decor, attention to detail, closeness to Shanklin village & beach, pool & jacuzzi!
Drinks were expensive!
Excellent breakfast pached eggs brilliantly cooked
Nothing
Good breakfast and bar prices very reasonable.
Very low water pressure so showers weren't the best.
Staff were excellent. Facilities were OK Breakfast good
The rooms desperately need updating! Big horrible bath, with rust, with a very disappointing shower and cracked tiles on bathroom floor. severe lack of storage space in bathroom, found ourselves balancing wash bags on Cistern? Modernization needs to be on the cards to make this a great hotel!
Breakfast was very nice
Poor showers
Ok breakfast very good
The bar not open late
Swimming pool welcome in the heatwave, though overheated and scruffy, steps coming out of concrete, didn't feel safe. Breakfast well cooked, though limited choice and no effort to cater for gluten free other than toast, or any alternative milks/teas/coffees. Bed large and comfortable. Bar staff friendly
2nd floor room scruffy, small, bath tiny, shower useless with very low water pressure and hot water taking several minutes to come through if at all, sometimes no water at all as it would simply stop. No safety hand rail to help get in or out the bath - crazy. Toilet didn't flush properly, taking several minutes to refill. Windows difficult to open and needed to get help to do so one day. Staying during a heatwave, this made for a very uncomfortable and unpleasant stay. Am going home desperate for a decent shower and hair wash. Problem was mentioned and owner said she'd contact Maintenance, but they already knew of problems. Nothing changed and l washed my hair in the sink using a plastic pint cup. This is not what a Deluxe Double should be like! Toiletries and teas/coffees not replenished without asking... No food not even icecream available during the day (on hottest day on record) although iced water was available. . I could go on.... Not all bad, just deeply disappointed and am feeling cheated at over £200 per night.
Great staff who went out of their way to welcome us and accommodate all our needs. Gary and his wife were so friendly and helpful and were able to give us local information which was very helpful. The barman/Reception guy was so friendly and helpful despite only being in his job a few days! This hotel is lucky to have such amazing staff!! The Reception, bar and outdoor area had been updated to a high standard and looked really good. We didn’t stay for breakfast but it all looked well presented.
The bathrooms were very dated. The shower over the bath was poor. It took a long time for hot water to come through and when it did it was a long way from a power shower!!? The bedrooms were very small and cramped.
Adequate breakfast Didn't try cooked breakfast. No evening meal on offer. Helpful staff. Good location for beach and local pubs
Very cramped bedroom. No air conditioning Step into bathroom Very old bath. enamel worn off
Great Location, Excellent hotel and service
The young lad who greeted us when we arrived was friendly, welcoming and even helped carry our bags. He was fantastic! The breakfast was great!!
The sink was in the bedroom and not in the bathroom
Hotel is located in excellent place, close to the sea, shops, restaurants and attractions. Excellent staff, the young chap who’s the hotel manager is just a delight to deal with, nothing was a problem. It was a pleasure to talk to him when he had spare few minutes. Above and beyond!do not let him go! Very friendly atmosphere and amazing decor throughout the hotel! Loved it!
The room could be a bit bigger and the hotel would hugely benefit if there was hot snacks/ dinners available. But we liked everything about the hotel.
Good breakfast Swimming pool
Dark room Not professionally decorated
Very good experiance good location in Shanklin. good staff and housekeeping. Comfotable bed a quirky twist decor and a swimming pool and sauna.
Quirky decor
Very old fashioned furniture in bedrooms. Doesn’t deliver on the reception area decor breakfast not served until 0830. Shower just a dribble. Genuinely hard to rinse myself it was that bad. A bit tired. Young lad on reception although very helpful and courteous appeared to be alone. However… this is the isle of white and so in the grand scheme of things it’s typical iow hotel. It wasn’t bad but it also wasn’t good. Just average.
Ideal location. Beds comfortable. Great facilities, swimming pool, garden/garden furniture, bar. Plenty of relaxing areas. Staff were excellent. Great breakfast.
Breakfast good
Music on tap non stop not good
Clean modern friendly staff
Not sure about the pictures on the walls detracts from the rest of the Hotel decor
Facilities. Jakuzzi swimming pool and sauna. Bang Olufsen Tvs in the room and breakfast ace 10/10
Nothing
Well presented inside, rooms spacious and comfortable. Staff very warm and welcoming.
Clearer directions for parking needed. Light was out in the shower- however forgot to tell staff to fix.
The staff did their best of a clearly bad situation. They worked within their roles and beyond. The hotel clearly has been recently renovated in some parts, but not all.
The room: old TV that doesn't work, no ventilation other than a single window, the bathroom door doesn't shut, the flushing doesn't work, the shower is cheap and dingy (we overheard other guests complaining about this over breakfast). And we were promised a gluten free breakfast - their version of gluten free is taking the hash brown away. But all of that did not bother us. Here is what did. Shocking managerial attitude. The room has no Do Not Disturb sign to help direct the cleaning staff, who also are apparently very rigid in their timings according to the manager. On the second day, our baby was having a nap in the afternoon after we spent the entire morning away, and we had to tell the cleaners directly abut this as they had not yet cleaned our room. The room was never cleaned, and as it turns out, the receptionist had to make our bed for us later on in the day. When we brought this to her attention, the lady manager was far more concerned on pinning the blame on the male receptionist than to make up for the issue. The real problem is that the hotel is clearly short staffed, the male receptionist was there from 7am until at least pm that day, covering reception, bartending, portering, cleaning and any odd job around the hotel. All other staff was in a similar situation, management seems to have an attitude of "if 1 person can cover 5 people's jobs, then why should I even employ a 2nd?". In a despicable turn of events, the manager went on to blame the cleaning staff for being rigid, blamed the receptionist for taking initiative and trying to clean our room when he has not been trained to do so, blamed us and even our baby for having been in the room for a nap, and when asked about compensation, she flat out refused, she went as far as refusing to give us the name of a higher up manager or how best to make a complaint.
I appreciated the facilities, the excellent breakfast and the quirky nature of the hotel (decor)
The swimming pool and Jacuzzi were lovely. The hotel has been refurbished to a good quality. Good parking. The cooked breakfast was a good standard.
We arrived on a bank holiday Monday and although the staff member who greeted us was lovely, there was only one staff member on the premises. I appreciate this was due to the bank holiday. For large parts of the day, we had to go looking around the hotel to be served a drink or ask general enquiries. There should be at least two staff on site.
