We had dinner one night which we were disappointed with.We also had room service on two nights.We had the same thing both nights,the first night it was really good the second night the food was not good at all

Near the helford river

The roads are a nightmare to reach the property and it’s far from other amenities like pubs etc. it’s quite run down in places, could do with a refresh. The daily cleaning of the rooms is awful. Food not great, and breakfast service is terrible.

The rooms were spacious and the grounds the hotel were on were lovely.

Staff can be quite rude, clearly some did not want to be there. The breakfast was absolutely awful, we only ate there once in the end. Bathrooms had mould on them all around the bath. Staff made it feel like you were bothering them, and asked about afternoon tea and they said they had to have 24 hours notice - in which I replied you can book online the same day or even same hour. They then accommodated this. The rooms were far too hot and the windows were not safe, they opened from the bottom and the wind could blow these open and closed trapping fingers. We left a whole day of early.

It’s in a beautiful setting in a convenient location . The staff are friendly & helpful, the room was clean & comfortable, the food was very good & the service was excellent.

Loved the setting and the facilities on offer. Just a shame we weren't there long enough to experience them all.

The sofa bed in the lounge making up as the bed for our teen daughter was not comfortable at all.

Second time staying here in a matter of a couple of months. Again, a great stay, with friendly and professional staff.

La fraîcheur de la salade de fruit le 2e jour était moyenne. Selon ou est la chambre l escalier est plus rapide que l ascenseur. Le matin, pour les lèves tard (8h...) déclenchement intempestive de l alarme incendie

The hotel was comfortable and well run. The grounds were well kept.

Breakfast understaffed, poached eggs undercooked on one morning, cold on another. Coffee machines broken. Bathroom shabby, mould in shower, grout missing from floor tiles. Bedside reading light broken, wouldn’t stay in position. Could not watch the TV No local beer available Poor selection of soft drinks Paid for an upgraded room but were allocated a room which was inferior to one that had been graded as standard in December Hot tub out of action for 2/3 days Pool towels difficult to obtain Well below the standard of previous stays and that expected for this price point. The beds were very comfortable and the hotel was very quiet so we had a good night sleep. The sauna, pool and jacuzzi were the highlight, the building for the pool was beautifully designed. The lady at the desk was also very helpful and she managed to book us a table to eat with a reduced menu that evening because we just walked the SWCP and didn't have a car to go anywhere else and were very tired.

The food at the restaurant wasn't great and overpriced. It felt a little bit like the hotel really wanted for us to have breakfast at an extra cost as well but after having had dinner we decided to opt out and go to Trebah Kitchen instead in the morning. The dinner was just disappointing, because they couldn't book us in into the main restaurant, we were in the conservatory area and the menu was reduced but also what was on there, like the mussels, were sold out apart from one portion. Looking inside the restaurant as well, we could see that it wasn't fully booked, maybe a staff shortage meant that bookings were no longer possible. It was strange though to have booked for a room but to not have a seat at the restaurant available.

Our second stay and it was just as good. Budock Vean is a beautiful hotel set in stunning surroundings. The rooms are spotlessly clean and a very comfortable bed. Our room was once again overlooking the golf course, which is beautiful and only a short walk to the river. The staff we encountered were very engaging and made you feel welcomed hence our decision to return.

Only one small criticism the bacon at breakfast time on both days was very undercooked for us.

Noise from above sounded like the gym was above our room.

Having to book for breakfast!! The dining experience was not great, breakfast was 7:45 to 10, but you had to pick your breakfast time on arrival, which rolled over every day. No lie ins and come down as you wanted here. Safe was missing from the room and when reported we were told we could store in the reception safe, why advertise having room safes when you don’t. Rooms and hotel facilities were grubby, and a refresh was needed everywhere in the hotel. Windows in the restaurant were blown and you couldn’t see through them. Pool area tiles were a health and safety risk and slippy. If you want to eat in the restaurant I hope you like fish, the menu did not change and the specials are all fish. This is definitely not a 4 star hotel !

How dog friendly it was! Like that’s a must for pet owners who can’t leave their pets at home ! Got a little break for ourselves and the dogs enjoyed every bit of it !

The size of the room, the swimming pool, hot tub & sauna.

The cleanliness of the room, nor the restaurant was not up to my expectations being a reflection of the price, there was make up (foundation) under the glass tops of the vanity desk, mould staining on the silicone in the bathroom & the bowls that were out to pick the continental breakfast were dirty. The fabric chairs also had food staining on some. Plus it was not made clear what breakfast you could actually have, e.g what was included in your booking. The pool was also a bit dated & not as clean as the sauna or outside hot tub.

Beautiful grounds and the walk down to the foreshore is a must.

The wooden flooring in the entrance hall could do with a deep clean and re-polish. While most carpets were in good order, there was the odd stain on our corridor. We expected a larger variety of meal options on the dinner menu - some local pubs outdid the hotel in this regard.

Très ancienne maison située dans un bel espace naturel, superbe jardin, agréable marche jusqu'à la rivière, le calme ... chambre spacieuse, literie confortable ... belle piscine intérieure. La nourriture au restaurant est excellente. Bar , terrasse et salons également agreables.

Globalement les locaux sont vieillissants et ont besoin d un gros rafraîchissement. Le personnel est poli ni accueillant ni attentionné.. L emplacement assez isolé ne laisse guère d autre option pour le dîner que le restaurant de l hôtel. Une belle et ancienne maison qui a perdu son âme.

Location above the Helford Estuary which is magic, facilities e.g. indoor swimming pool, friendliness and efficiency of staff, value for money given all it offers, peace and quiet of location

Everything - especially the friendliness of the staff. We want to mention Holly in particular- she works in the bar and conservatory area and is a delight to all customers and dogs! The spa facilities are superb and the whole ambiance of the hotel is spot on!

In a deluxe 4 star hotel room there should be a small fridge.

This is the second time staying at Budock Vean. It is a beautiful place. The rooms are well equipped, clean and comfortable. The staff on the whole are excellent.

Sadly on this stay there were a couple of niggles with the room. The shower was faulty and the sink plug jammed closed so we were unable to use the sink as we couldn’t empty the water out. This wasn’t able to be sorted out during our short stay. One other issue happened on checking out. The exit road was blocked whilst some maintenance work was being carried out. Sadly we weren’t made aware of this and that we weren’t able to leave until the road was cleared. There were two other couples unable to leave rendering one of them late for a wedding. People should have been told about this so they could have made other arrangements.

Great location with access to the river through beautiful garden walk. Walking to Ferry Boat in and Bar beach were via steep steps but beach was good and full of shells to hunt and swimming.

Spa pool is very very dated although they do have a new sauna. JaccuzI didn’t work but was warm and was outside. The staff seemed distracted when we arrived and at times we couldn’t find anyone to help or get the bill. We were on the 3rd floor and the room had no air conditioning and even though it was only 21 outside the room was very stuffy and hot all day and all night.

The hotel is obviouisly in transition by the new owners in refurbishment of the rooms. The decor is tired and needs painting in certian areas. The meals were a big disappointment for the cost and calibre of the hotel. The cooked breafast was frugal and the dining times too regimented. The evening meals were limited in choice, the ingedients not combined well and farl below the standard expected for the price.(for example the rump steak was tough as old boots, small in size and not cooked as requested).

Es gab täglich ein umfangreiches kontinentales Frühstücksbuffett. Die englischen/conrishen Frühstücksvarianten durfte man sich ergänzend auswählen und wurden serviert. Die Qualität der angebotenen Produkte wahren sehr gut. Auch Lunch, Teetime und Dinner samt der Auswahl wahren herausragend. Die gesamte Anlage ist schon sehr alt, verströmt aber auch desswegen den englischen Charme den wir gesucht haben. Man kann Baden am Fluss gehen, oder in das hauseigene Schwimmbad. Die Golfer kommen natürlich auf Ihre Rechnung, genauso die Tennisspieler. Und die Gegend ist traumhaft.

Im Prinzip nichts was uns nicht gefallen hat. Klar muss einem sein, dass dies ein Objekt mit langer Geschichte ist.

It was our first anniversary, so I requested anything extra they could do to make it special for us. They upgraded our room and left us a card along with some chocolates and wrote happy 1st Anniversary on the mirror for us. They really went all out for us and made us feel special. The hotel is older in style but still clean and modern touches. The pool, steam room and hot tub were well maintained and the bar and dining areas were very nice too. We had a few cocktails and they were made very well. There is also a walk down to a slip all private to the hotel which was very picturesque. The hotel is very nice and we would highly recommend a stay here.

The decor is very tired, we were in the newer part and it was very hot. Some of the staff were rude and abrupt. The restaurant food in the evening was expensive and mediocre. Very low water pressure in bathroom.

Paid for late a 1pm late checkout but the staff had a fire drill at 11am which woke us up.

Room was a little hot, with only a portable fan to try and provide some cooling. Dinner was good but not as good as last year and most definitely not worth what we paid.

Everything was absolutely perfect for our 20th Wedding Anniversary. The setting the attention to detail in the rooms, throughout the hotel and the lovely staff made this a memorable stay. Looking at a Christmas stay! Thank you all

Where do we start ? The location , the views , the quiet rooms , the breakfast , all superb There wasn’t any plant based yogurt so the next day I had my very own pot of coconut yogurt at my table so I could enjoy the continental breakfast fully and a delicious vegan cooked too if I could fit anything else in !!

The only gripe we had was that there was no air con . We were on the top floor in a heat wave. There was a free standing fan but only one plug point on one side of the bed . I very much expect if we had asked for another fan the hotel would have provided one as they were more than happy to help with any other needs we had .

La localisation est parfaite. Le coin est tellement beau ! L'hôtel donne sur la rivière et a un jardin sublime. Il y a aussi un court de tennis et une piscine intérieure. Nous avons bénéficié d'une grande chambre dans la partie "neuve" du bâtiment. Elle était confortable et fraiche ! Mais celle ne nos enfants à côté de nous était beaucoup moins fraiche que la notre en raison de l'exposition de cette extension.

Le personnel n'est pas sympathique sauf l'adorable personnel de menage des chambres. Mais au restaurant comme au bar, c'était un peu un sketch parfois. Nous avons aimé l'endroit mais nous ne nous sommes pas attachés à l'endroit en raison de cela. Aussi, on s'est dit à plusieurs reprises que le diable se cachait dans les détails et que l'hotel gagnerait à s'y intéresser : lumières automatiques dans la salle de bain et les toilettes - mais pourquoi ? Qui aime se faire reveiller par des lumières au plafond quand il va aux toilettes à 4 heures du matin ? Pas de prise pour brancher un rasoir ou un seche-cheveux dans la salle de bain - mais pourquoi ? Douche avec pommeau géant de plafond - sympa d'avoir pensé aux femmes ! Au niveau de la déco aussi, il y a des grandes améliorations à apporter : faire retirer l'horrible crépis qui recouvre les murs des couloirs. Je plains le propriétaire à qui un artisan a fait ce travail qui massacre la beauté de cet hôtel. De même, l'extension est un désastre esthétique. La déco du rez-de-chaussée est spartiate. Cela manque de lampes d'ambiance. Dans les salons, le soir, il faisait froid ! Pour finir, il faut savoir que les enfants ne sont pas acceptés à la piscine entre 11h et 16h puis de mémoire à partir de 19h et jusqu'à la fermeture de la piscine. Il y a un spa, ce qui explique ces restrictions, mais mieux vaut les avoir en tête avant de réserver.

La stanza era molto grande, pulita e ben tenuta, con pulizie effettuate quotidianamente. Anche la struttura nel complesso è molto bella, anche se alcuni elementi mostrano un po’ di trascuratezza e avrebbero bisogno di maggiore cura. Ho apprezzato molto l’accoglienza riservata agli ospiti animali.

Meno positivo il soggiorno per quanto riguarda il comfort della stanza: faceva piuttosto caldo e non era possibile aprire bene la finestra, rendendo difficile avere un ricambio d’aria adeguato. Anche la colazione continentale è stata una delusione: la scelta per noi italiani era scarsa e si limitava sostanzialmente a pane, brioche e yogurt. Ci si aspetterebbe un’offerta un po’ più varia, soprattutto considerando il livello e la bellezza della struttura. Nel complesso, hotel piacevole e con ottime potenzialità, ma alcuni aspetti della gestione e della cura dei dettagli potrebbero essere migliorati.

Loved that it was cosy, comfortable and great staff. Location is perfect and the beach was lovely. Adored the quirky old fashioned yet homely feel, please don’t change. So quiet too, just bliss.

Head lady serving breakfast was quite cold and didn’t make us feel welcome, she also got our breakfast incorrect. Other than this, love everything.

I’d say it was just the food that was lacking a little and didn’t match the levels that other departments were.

Beautiful setting - it feels like a private country house coming to the Budock Vean. The grounds are lovely, great swimming pool, sauna was excellent. We loved going kyaking (and beach swim) on our first day - that was so special with Koru - definitely recommend. Breakfast was very good, plenty of cold options and fruit and cooked breakfasts - veggie was perfect portion and nice variety of items. Our room was cool, calm and felt very smart - all pale woods and neutrals, very comfortable beds, slept so well. Lovely bathroom, again felt brand new and spotless, good products too from Gaia, felt very natural and spa like. A lovely place to stay for a few days, peaceful. Staff were all very friendly, chatty, unobtrusive but helpful. Room service was also a real treat, very special and a good menu including prawn sandwiches and spicy calamari, delicious.

Breakfast choices for cooked could do with an extension - would make it perfect, mushrooms on toast for example but I am sure you could ask for that and it would not be an issue. Having enough product in the shower - I managed but it was low for body wash and shampoo but such a minor detail. Not much, it was a really lovely relaxing place to stay.

Buddock Vean was situated in beautiful, well kept grounds. It was lovely to look out on the golf course over breakfast. Breakfast was excellant. The staff were friendly and efficient.

The weather was excptional but it meant our room was very hot. Air conditioning would have been a real bonus. The swimming pool nreds some tlc but we saw the notice showing your upgrade plans.

Staff were scarce and quite abrupt. Dirty laundry in the hallways a lot of the time. A cleaner walked into our room without knocking. Just barged in.

Menu ,managed to eat our way around the menu on the 9 days we where there.Noticeable difference in food quality between days and shift changes of the chiefs .

Location is good, nice view from the terrace and nice walk down to the coast path. Food in the restaurant was decent.

Rooms dated, hallways worse (they really need to scrape the artex off the walls and redecorate, the pool building needs completely renovating. All in all it’s pretty shabby.

The room itself was nice, bathroom was clean and new looking. Also nice toiletries.

I wouldn’t class this as 4* by the looks of the interior. The corridors were old and worn out. Doors were worn, it all looked a bit unkept. We had dinner at the restaurant, we had hoped for high things but the pizza wasn’t great. The amount of tomato puree was overwhelming. The cost vs what you got wasn’t great. Service was good, we did over hear conversations saying how management had been having a go at staff, we didn’t see a problem with the staff at all however I would say this is more of a 3*. That being said we didn’t have a bad stay, the room was confortable.

Good size comfortable room, beautiful gardens and walk down to the foreshore. We did the hotel boat trip which was a really excellent way to discover the Helford River and took advantage of the swimming pool, both of which enhanced our stay. Dinner was just as excellent as on our previous visit and cocktails were first-class

Bar service rather slow and I had asked if the hotel was able to mark my friend's birthday in a small way (I even offered to pay for any extras) however I didn't receive a response and no acknowledgement was made.

It was a beautiful location with lovely views of the gardens and surrounding golf course. The staff were very attentive and welcoming. Breakfast was good and was lovely to see pets were welcomed too. Overall, it was very relaxing and we will definitely be back.
