The Tapherini Bungalow

This bungalow is wonderful! The house is so comfortable and the hosts take care of everything! It's so nice to have a living room to relax in, and lovely meals too. We loved it!

Had a really nice stay here. The place is beautiful and peaceful, perfect for a relaxing getaway. The food was delicious and felt like home style comfort. What really made the stay special was the staff; they were very friendly, helpful, and always welcoming. Overall, a simple, fun, and amazing place to stay. Would definitely come again.

Really enjoyed the staff attentions for our family from greetings to good byes. The food was amazing, both for dinner and breakfast. Loved the renovation and high quality materials of the house. It feels like a home. Super comfy beds, nice shower. Common space is awesome for board games or chats. Pit fire outside was super cozy on the cool night!

Nothing, just that one night was too short.

We had such a great stay at the bungalow. The place is very calm and quiet, perfect for relaxing and getting away from the city. The beds were super comfy and we slept really well throughout our stay. One of the best parts was spending time by the fireplace. We had an amazing time there and it made the whole experience feel extra special. The food was amazing and honestly better than we expected. Every meal was really enjoyable. The staff are incredibly friendly and very helpful. The service was truly top class and they made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. Even with the flooding and landslides happening in Sri Lanka at the time, this bungalow felt very safe. The area was not affected at all and everything was fully functional, which was very reassuring. I would 100% recommended and will definitely visit again.

Good service, Clean and well kept property

Hot water finishes within few minutes

Clean property, excellent hosts Dilpan and Sashi who were friendly and provided catering. Great location with good view!

The best personnel there is. Such a good cook! He really exceeds the quality of most restaurants we visited. They even made a camp fire in the evening.

Some maintenance needs to be done on the roof and electricity. But they fixed what they could

Gentillesse du personnel

Trop éloigné du centre et dans une zone sans aucun intérêt Trop bruyant la nuit

The property is quite cozy, well equipped and perfect for a family getaway. What makes it even amazing is the staff- both Shashi and Thileepan left no stone unturned to make our experience !memorable.

Roof began leaking just when we checked in

I loved the homely feel and how welcoming the hosts were. The food was delicious too!

The location, the interior, staff and food all were great.

This was in a great location. Food was amazing!! Staff was very friendly and helpful!

It was a horror story from the beginning. We stayed at 7 different properties in our 9 day stay in Sri Lanka. This has to rank as the worst experience by a long stretch. The staff at the property have taken over the reins of the property so much so that their attitude reeks of arrogance, high handedness and open threats to their guests. The staff at the property heckled, physically charged at and intimidated my wife and I for asking for more than 1 egg!!!! For breakfast. We were told that both the menu as well as the QUANTITY of breakfast items were fixed. Why not mention that in their offering. Won't offer water the next morning as we can only get 1 500 l bottle each. Crazy place with crazy staff. We felt unsafe the entire night fearing for our well being there. If you want to avoid any mishap or misadventure to your safety and well being, avoid the property at all costs. Booking.com ought to blacklist them

It was a disaster.

Very comfortable place with nice rooms which were spotless clean, quiet location with great views great staff, we ate dinner there due to the pouring rain and it was very good.

Nothing

The place is nice and clean and warm enough at night which is this place is a good plus.

The place is far from Nuawara Eliya town (1h30 walking or 20min by TukTuk to the center of town) and doesn't offer transportation to town which doesn't make it ideal. It's also located in a very steep hill, which I guess is not unusual in this area. The bathroom isn't great but the shower is ok. The staff while very nice and with good intentions are not the most efficient (on the first day we asked that they book us a Tuk Tuk to town for 15min after we arrived because we wanted to go eat, they said yes but in the end mentioned that the 2 tuk tuks that are usually in the propriety were out and just stood on the street with us waving tuk tuks down for over 30min)

It was amazing to stay here. He chose this place for Christmas Eve and were spoiled by the staff who went an extra mile for us to feel comfortable and special for the occasion. We received surpise desserts and extra attention. Although there were more guests staying at the same time, it felt like we were the only ones. Highly recommend.

Nice beds

We were watched by a staff all the time while having dinner and breakfast. We felt very uncomfortable as we were the only two and it was not at all cozy as he was talking on the phone - watching videos and listening to loud music. No privatcy at all ! Very little toilet paper- no extra roll. Breakfast egg was served cold and very dry toasts A very tiny room. Could not open two suitcases at the same time. Furthermore the access was very steep and our driver was very nervous to go up there by car

Great house, great comfort, greet food. A bit difficult to find.

Clean room, very good breakfast, staff very polite.

Wonderful stay with really great host. Room was really confortable and you will surely sleep like a baby overthere. Good Wi-Fi connection and hot water made it even more enjoyable. I highly recommend.

Nothing

The service of Thiliban is outstanding! His boss has the jackpot with him. He is a One-Man-Show and handles everything so well! The food is very good too! The Bungalow is nice and has a beautiful view!

Was not the cleanest room and some things should be repaired/maintained.

The dinner was delicious as the manager of the house is a chef 😃

Thilipan is a amazing worker. Nice place and clean

Beautiful property with lovely host. It was like coming home after a long day of travelling. Room was clean and tidy with comfortable beds.

The property is very cozy and our room was very comfortable and clean. The staff was very kind helpful. We also had a delicious dinner there.

The breakfast was really nice. We had a bbq and a camp fire which was really nice. We loved the place.

The cleanest place that we stayed in Sri lanka. Villa is very organized and renovated, beds are comfortable. Hygiene level so high.

Was annoyed little bit of the cooking smell, it was over all the place, very strong spices smell and i have allergy. Rest was perfect

The highlight of this hotel is undoubtedly the person (young boy ) who served and helped us with everything. From preparing delicious breakfasts and dinners to assisting with luggage, providing information about the area, ordering tuk-tuks, and much more. Given that this bungalow is not easy to reach, I truly hope the owner compensates him fairly for all they do, which is practically everything. The bungalow is very nicely decorated. Feels like home.

The place is not easy to reach, and Google Maps might get confused for the last 1.5 km. The road is uphill and narrow, so Pick Me and Uber often refuse to come there. However, you can walk downhill and wait for a ride at the main road, where they are accepted. To find the shortcut to the road from the property, ask the helpful staff member, and they will show you the way

Accomodating staff

A bit out of the town

Hidden Gem! Highly recommend this property. We had a wonderful 3 days at this beautiful property!! Great hospitality and food preparation by Thiliban (care taker). He was very nice, professional and ensured that we had a memorable experience.

Thiliban from the staff made our stay feel incredibly homely and comfortable. He prepared an outstanding Sri Lankan dinner, so good that I couldn’t resist asking him for the recipe! Although the bungalow is located a few kilometers away from the city, its serene and peaceful surroundings make it absolutely worth the stay.

I had an amazing stay at the hotel, and I must commend Saminda and John for their exceptional care of the property. The food was fantastic—freshly prepared to meet our specific requirements, with a menu that was both diverse and satisfying. The service throughout our stay was excellent, making the experience truly memorable. Highly recommended!

The view from my room

Very comfy besser- the best beds we had so far.

The place was clean and up to date. The rooms were cosy and the bed was super comfy! The staff were excellent and attended to our every need. The rooms were carpeted which was convenient. Heater available.

The power went out twice. It took a while for the generator to get going. Not ideal since I was with a toddler and an infant. The water heater runs out of hot water in about 4 mins. The WiFi was super slow.

The cottage is so cute, beautiful relaxing view. Comfy beds and Frank the care taker is exceptionally attentive.

The road leading up is abit derelect and the drive way to the house is very steep. There is also no stairs from driveway to the house and not very friendly for those who may have disabilities or back issues.

Extremely charming house with very clean and comfortable rooms. Delicious meals that can be eaten in the common dining room. Frank deserves praise, who was very helpful and caring and prepared a delicious dinner for us.

We had a great time staying with Frank at the tapherini hotel. It's a bit off the grid but very nice located on a hill. The room had everything we needed, even hot water - only a hairdryer would have been nice to have. The breakfast is good and the garden is really nice, if the weather is good enough :) Frank was super friendly and helpful. Thank you!!

A nice place in the center of Sri Lanka. Away from tourists, close to wonderful nature. A unique place. Clean and fragrant. We enjoyed entering the room after a whole day of sightseeing. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. The food was tasty, although the selection could be larger. Frank was a godsend when our car broke down. Without him, we wouldn't have been able to arrange a mechanic. He ordered tuk-tuks for us and stayed to organize technical help. We highly recommend this place!

We love everything about the stay in this villa it’s clean and safe place the staff Franc and Eshan very helpful ,smiley and friendly they care about us and the breakfast was delicious they deserve more than 5 stars 👍🏻 🥇🌸 The view is breathtaking ⛰️ there are cameras for more security 👏🏻👏🏻 We enjoyed our stay and we recommended this villa to everyone who wants to come to nuwara eliya 🌟

The staff was very friendly and always there for our support

Nothing noticed

Excellent furnishing and lovely area, with a great staff. I didn’t expect all of this for what we paid and honestly I was impressed at the end of the day.

It’s down a very very steep path. It’s not immediately shown when looking at the property which is a bit of a concern especially if you have a car that can’t pull up a steep lane and a personal opinion here but I didn’t like the fact that you had to order off a menu rather than ordering ad-hoc with whatever they had.

Cozy nook

A fan and mosquito net would have been good

Comfortable clean and amazing staff

Well maintained and clean property. The caretakers are very helpful and accomodating.

It’s very new ,and very comfortable

The food is very good ,and the owner and the staff is very friendly, room is very nice ,very clean, very good breakfast, I’m highly recommend this place to stay

Just gotta shout out The Tapherini in Nuwara Eliya – total game-changer! Cozy rooms, epic food, and can we talk about the fireplace at night? It's like they dialed up the charm to 11. Perfect spot, close to everything, but the fireplace vibe? Unbeatable. If you're in Nuwara Eliya, this place is the real deal!

The property's charm lies in its inviting and homely atmosphere. The meticulous upkeep adds to the overall appeal, ensuring a pleasant stay. The beautiful interior, coupled with the warmth of the fireplace, creates a cozy haven that's perfect for winding down. The rooms are thoughtfully equipped with all the essentials, making it convenient and comfortable. One standout feature for me was the snug beds – incredibly comfy and inviting. I drifted into a peaceful sleep, feeling as content as a well-rested baby. What made the evening even more enjoyable was the opportunity to unwind with a beer in a lovely setting. The property's simplicity and attention to detail made my stay not just comfortable but also memorable, leaving me with a sense of genuine relaxation.

Beautifully furnished, very clean and tidy. Well maintained.

Located uphill and the leading road is very narrow and filled with holes. Once arrived at the bungalow it is impossible to go down at nighttime even for a small trip to the town. Room less comfortable than expected. No nice views.
