The River was very nice outside.

I had a room overlooking the road rather than the river and it had a fixed to the ceiling shower which is fine for a man but ladies don’t always want to get their hair soaked every time they shower. It was a bit of a walk to the town from there too. I paid a lot of money for no river view and a 1 night week night stay. There were snacks in the room but there was a price list for them.. The bed was not that comfortable.. so didn’t sleep very well. The room was very cold when I arrived also.

To register for the room you have to go into the pub. They give you the keys to the room. We were on the ground floor so did not have to deal with very many steps. We looked out on to the river.

There was some confusion when we arrived over the cost of our stay. Nothing to do with the Mill on the Exe but they sorted it all out in a very decent way. They were within their rights to charge more but didn’t.

Nothing the rooms an Sunday roast we’re just great and the location was fantastic.

The rooms were very comfortable and a pleasure to stay in. The staff were very helpful and accommodating.

Einfach nur super! Die Lage am Fluss ist traumhaft, die Zimmer sind super-sauber, gepflegt und groß, das Frühstück ist wirklich sehr gut und das Personal super-nett. Auch das Essen vor Ort (wenn man mal nicht in die Stadt will) ist absolut empfehlenswert und auch nicht überteuert. Dieses Hotel können wir absolut empfehlen.

Cet hôtel/pub est vraiment un coin de paradis. La suite était fabuleuse, particulièrement grande. J'avais une terrasse privée avec vue sur rivière, petit frigo, machine à café, salle de bain spacieuse. C'est très agréable d'être en dessous du pub ainsi, cela crée une vraie ambiance à l'anglaise. Le personnel est très sympa, le repas était très bon également, fidèle à mes attentes. Le petit déjeuner est délicieux et avec beaucoup de choix. Etonnamment, aucun bruit dans la chambre. C'était une fabuleuse surprise !

Le check out est un peu tôt, mais c'est absolument tout.

We really liked the welcome and the wonderful staff during our stay. They even put the football on showing my team. The small touches like fresh milk in the fridge . Tea and coffee in the room was much appreciated. The bed was comfy and the shower/ bath with lots of hot water and power. We ate there in the evening too and it was really tasty and good value. The location was excellent for both walking into town and along to the quays. A good sized car park was helpful too.

Wonderful stay and amazing staff. We accidentally left a jacket at the hotel, and they kindly shipped it back to us free of charge — such a thoughtful gesture and truly excellent service. The staff were fantastic throughout our stay. If I visit Exeter again, I would definitely stay here again without hesitation. Highly recommended!

Very very quaint property with a victorian charm but modern amenities. The beds were very comfortable and although we faced the street with our room we did not hear traffic at night.

The air conditioning was not working in our room (it was 30C+ degrees despite being set at 18) which I did mention to reception with a plea for help. We were assured it was due to the heatwave. We left the door open to the stairwell to try to get the breeze from the back of the house, as the windows in our room were sealed shut. As we were preparing to leave, the well functioning air conditioning from the room across the hall (open for cleaning) cooled us as we closed our suitcases. I feel at this price point we shouldn’t have had to suffer. Sorry to say: the food in the tavern is very average.

Absolutely beautiful spot along the river. Great restaurant and very relaxing place to have a pint. Rooms were very clean and comfortable. Staff was all very friendly and accommodating. Would highly recommend!

The Room (5) was lovely overlooking the river with two comfy chairs looking outside. Great breakfast, wonderful location and the staff were all very friendly. Super easy parking.

La struttura si trova in una posizione molto piacevole: le camere sono adiacenti a un pub davvero carino, affacciato sul fiume Exe. Nonostante la vicinanza al pub, in camera non arrivava praticamente alcun rumore, quindi la posizione si è rivelata molto tranquilla. È inoltre possibile fare colazione e mangiare al pub, anche se i prezzi sono piuttosto alti. La camera era bella, spaziosa e dotata di tutto il necessario per il soggiorno.

Ci sono però alcuni aspetti che potrebbero essere migliorati. La macchina del caffè non funzionava sempre correttamente: inserendo la capsula, a volte usciva soltanto acqua. Abbiamo inoltre trovato della polvere su alcune superfici evidentemente poco utilizzate, come il ventilatore e la zona dedicata alla macchina del caffè e al bollitore. Il ventilatore, in particolare, sembrava non essere stato utilizzato o pulito da diverso tempo. Il problema principale è stato però il caldo in camera. La finestra della stanza non si poteva aprire e l’unica finestra apribile era quella del bagno. Il ventilatore presente non era sufficiente a rinfrescare l’ambiente. Nel complesso, una struttura piacevole e con una posizione molto bella, ma con alcuni aspetti legati alla pulizia e soprattutto alla ventilazione delle camere che meriterebbero maggiore attenzione.

The staff were welcoming from the beginning. It was good to have a parking space close to the entrance to the hotel accommodation. The housekeeping staff were very helpful, particularly as the weather was very hot. The breakfast was good. It was a fairly short walk to the city centre.

Beautiful pub right by the river and handy location near the city centre.

While our room itself was nice the position was very unfortunate, right by the car park and the guest door so I knew immediately as we checked in that we would be disturbed by slamming doors. Privacy was also an issue so we spent the whole trip with the curtains closed. We requested to move and were told this was not possible. I booked months in advance so was disappointed that this was the room we were allocated and that there was no attempt to find a solution as we were indeed repeatedly disturbed.

The staff at Mill on the Exe were so friendly and cheerful despite our stay being in their busiest week of the year. The cleaners were very friendly too. The bedrooms are beautifully decorated, parking was easy and you can walk to the centre of Exeter in 10 mins. Sitting on their terrace by the river is a mini holiday in itself. This is one of our favourite places to stay in the whole of the UK

Beautiful spot on the river Exe (hence the name 🤓) such a delight sitting in their lovely garden watching the sun go down. Room was perfectly decorated with complimentary drinks and I was in a room with a small courtyard garden which was great. I was travelling solo and they kindly brought my supper to my room, all in all a fantastic experience. Special mention to Kwesi (sorry if I spelt it wrong) who was so helpful. I’ve even booked another night next month.

Mit Zimmerpreis bezahltes Frühstück enthielt weder Toast noch Eierspeisen.

The outside veranda does need to be weeded and the window on that space could do with a clean but this did not spoil our stay.

Location was amazing

We stayed here with friends and were given the top-floor room, number 11. As we climbed each flight of stairs, the heat became more and more intense. When we entered the room, especially on one of the hottest days of the year, we discovered that the air conditioning wasn’t working. The room was unbearably hot, and we couldn’t stay in there for more than 10 minutes at a time. We were offered a room in another hotel, but as we had come to meet up with friends, we declined. Instead, we were given a fan, which made little difference in the heat. Throughout the night, the room temperature remained at 32°C. It was unbearable, and we barely slept. The next morning, we showered and left the room immediately to sit by the river and cool down, as even getting dressed was uncomfortable due to the heat. My husband mentioned the issue to the manager. He wasn’t complaining, just explaining how uncomfortable our stay had been. The manager was very kind and unexpectedly offered us a full refund, which we really appreciated. The evening before, we had booked a table for dinner. We ordered olives and bread while deciding on our meals, but they took 45 minutes to arrive. We eventually ordered our food and the starters came out. The garlic creamy mushrooms looked more like a watery soup than a proper starter. The main course was acceptable but nothing special. At breakfast, we ordered a full English, which again took a very long time to arrive. Most of the staff seemed unfriendly and miserable, with the exception of the manager, who was once again lovely and helpful. Unfortunately, despite the amazing location, I would definitely not return to this hotel, which is a real shame.

Das Hotel liegt wunderschön direkt am Fluss der Exe…das bei den heißen Tagen erfrischend war. Überall gibt es Erholungsplötze um da Haus herum mit Blick auf das Wasser Da Personal ist besonders nett und sehr freundlich. Das Zimmer ist sehr gut ausgestattet und sehr individuell gestaltet. Das Frühstück war besonders gut .. Wir kommen bald wieder .. Sehr zu empfehlen..

Wir hatten das Superior Zimmer gebucht und Zimmer Nr. 4 im EG mit Blick auf den Biergarten und Fluss bekommen. Das Kingsize-Bett war größer als gedacht (mind 2 m), es war super ruhig, von den Nachbarn hat man nichts gehört. Auch das Bad war sehr groß. Zum Frühstück gab es ein kleines Buffet und man konnte zusätzlich aus der Karte auswählen. Jedes Zimmer hat seinen eigenen Parkplatz (links vom Hotel, der Parkplatz rechts davon ist für Restaurantgäste). Es gibt eine Minibar und das erste Bier pro Person ist sogar gratis!

Meckern auf hohem Niveau; die Klimaanlage konnte man nicht einstellen (es tat sich nichts, wenn man die Knöpfe bediente). Wir hatten Außentemperatur 35 Grad Mitte Juni und die Klimaanlage zeigte eine Raumtemperatur von 25 Grad, die sich leider nicht verstellen ließ. Auch die Fenster ließen sich nicht öffnen.

We have stayed at Mill on The Exe several times and have always been very happy with everything, in fact we love it there. The previous rooms we’ve had have all been lovely with big windows overlooking the river. Admittedly we checked in very late this time, but given that we had paid for a Signature room, and it is a little expensive, our son got Room 9 which was acceptable, but we had Room 11 on the top floor. It was a family room, an extra single bed in there. It was dark and not a great view of the river at all. The bathroom is a small dark wet room, and the shower splashed all over the toilet, sink and shelves - the room is too small for a wet room! So although we will definitely stay again, I guess I must remember to decline Room 11! The hotel is great. Staff are lovely, food is good and atmosphere outside on the terrace has always been lovely in good weather. But retrospectively, we arrived late and left without our breakfast the next morning ( Committments) but we should’ve expressed our opinion then.

We could not get the air conditioning to work and it was not described in the paperwork in our room. The shower would have been improved had there been a grab-handle on the tiled wall; there was nothing to hang on to whilst washing one's feet.

Our breakfast was good, but no toast available. Dinner was priced for a standard food the kitchen couldn't reach, and portion s were small. disappointimng.

Every single member of staff seemed to genuinely love working here. They were attentive, polite and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble for any guest they interacted with. Breakfast was delicious and the location was perfect for walking into.the centre.

De fotos op booking suggeren dat dit een 4 sterrenhotel is. Dat is het niet, het zijn een paar kamers die bij een pub horen. De service bij the checkin balie ( lees: kassa van hetvrestaurant) komt niet in de buurt van een 4 sterrenhotel. Verder alles prima maar ons advies is om Een realitisch beeld te geven van de sfeer van dit hotel. Exeter is iig niet de moeite waard

The veranda needed a massive clean. Looks like it hadn't been touched since last year. All the glass is a great feature for viewing river but it needed cleaning.

Location — very busy street, large, noisy pub crowd, and check in staff was indifferent and inhospitable.

We have stayed here many times over the last 10 years. It is a great location on the river and close to the centre.

The room we were given was what used to be called the atic room . They have now grouped it in their "Signature view double" room category . The pictures in the category do not show that you might get put in this Atic room with a small window . It is also listed as a Standard Family room for 3 people . This is very misrepresentative .the window in the atic room is small and high up all you can see is the sky and top of the trees . The walk in shower means you have to walk through a wet floor to use the toilet or sink. When I complained that it wasn't the room I booked I was told it was a signature view room and they were fully booked so they couldn't move me to a room with a normal window. Beware when you book.

There was a large opening window in our room with a beautiful view over the river Exe and the weir. There were lovely eating areas right down to the river where we saw a cormorant and a herring gull.

The steep stairs and absence of lifts (it is a listed building and so they were not allowed to install lifts).
