People should be aware of multiple flights of stairs to get into the rooms. i arrived after 8 pm and there was no one available to help me haul my luggage up so many stairs

Ubicación excelente, la casa muy bonita, zona de la piscina perfecta para relajarse y quitarse el calor, zonas comunes muy espaciosas, desayuno sencillo de cortesía, y nos permitieron dejar las maletas en recepción cuando nos fuimos al parque Bako.

Como la casa es antigua, las habitaciones no están muy insonorizadas.

La ubicación es perfecta. La piscina también es un plus porque hace mucho calor y se agradece tenerla. La habitación estaba bien y con aire acondicionado.

The location is perfect. You are walking distance to the waterfront, museums, and restaurants. The lodge is a very unique design, and I liked the feel of it. The pool is lovely. Nice simple breakfast each morning.

The walls are quite thin. Although there are lots of notices about being quiet from 10pm-8am, some people were still noisy.

The location was great, handy for the waterfront, lots of great places to eat nearby. Historic building. Good pool with lovely garden surroundings.

Due to historic building musty mouldy smell to bedding and cushions/pillows. Noise travels between rooms even between quiet guests just moving gently about or using the bathroom in the night and using doors etc

Nothing went well. The advertisement and pictures of how this location was presented and what was actually real, was night and day. Very misleading.

I wasnt able to cancel and get a refund - that was disappointing, but part of the policy. The location of our room was on 2nd floor which is actually the 4th floor which is a series of long raised sidewalks then a series of stair cases in 90F+ temperatures with no help offered. Dragging our luggage up 4 flights of stairs was bad enough. The room had a weak A/C, and the windows had no screens in the bathroom. We could hear the people next door coughing and sneezing, and one woman was singing in her room next door. Felt like she was sitting next to me. The overall experience was very misleading. I immediately booked a room at the Hilton down the street, and dragged my luggage there. We didn’t stay one night. It was not what was advertised. Very very disappointing. The price maybe low, but we stayed at 2 other lodging residences in Ipoh and Penang that was fabulous.

De locatie is ideaal ten opzichte van de "boulevard" en op 10 minuten loopafstand een grote shoppingmall met bijv. een supermarkt, maar ook een H&M. Ook op diezelfde loopafstand het Borneo Museum (aanrader!). De 2 persoonskamers aan het zwembad zijn meest ideaal wat ons betreft: eigen zitje voor de deur en geen appartementen/ kamers boven je. Dus ook rustig qua geluid. De kamers zijn best schoon; maar je moet niet te ver omhoog kijken dan ligt er nogal wat stof op bijv. de airco e.d. Maar: het is een fantastisch authentiek pand vol historie. En een fijn restaurant er bij liggend. Je loopt eigenlijk via de receptie, langs de ingang van het restaurant om de trap met beveiligde doorgang naar het hotel zelf te komen. Het ontbijtje is inderdaad basic (toast, jam, pindakaas, coconut jam, melk en cornflakes), maar prima voor start van de dag. Kun je zelf ook aanvullen met je eigen spullen. De koffie smaakte prima. Gaat inderdaad strak om 10u dicht, maar ach.. als je dat weet. Het zwembad was heerlijk en schoon. Geen toezicht; dus er werd bij ons na 19u nog wel gezwommen ondanks dat dit niet zou mogen ;)

It had character. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Breakfast simple and satisfying. Lots of good restaurants, coffee shops close. It is central and close to beautiful waterfront.

Waterfront, Carpenter and Indian Street are within walking distance. Simple breakfast provided, even though not mention when booking. Own plant fruit serve in breakfast. Comfort bed. Seating area in front of room. The House full of history.

Not friendly to elderly who have knee pain. The receptionist do not show initiative to help to carry luggage for us. We ourselves discovered another entrance with lesser staircase and able to reach by car/ bus. The receptionist not even tell us this entrance especially 11 of our members are over 60.

Ik heb dit hotel 10 maanden geleden voor 3 nachten geboekt, maar toen ik kort voor vertrek de recente reviews las, werd ik toch wat onrustig. Dat was nergens voor nodig. Het is een mooi pand met smaakvolle inrichting in de openbare ruimtes. Super vriendelijke ontvangst bij de receptie. Eerlijk verhaal dat het ontbijt simpel is. Wij hadden een chapel kamer (foto’s) en de McDougall kamer. De Chapel kamer was echt prima, de McDougall viel wat tegen, erg basic. Deze mochten we zonder probleem de volgende dag omruilen voor de Harriet. Zelfde prijs, maar wel beter. De kamers waren schoon, douche uitstekend, het zwembad is heerlijk, je krijgt extra strandlakens voor bij het zwembad en het personeel is behulpzaam. Het ontbijt is inderdaad simpel, maar gezien de kamerprijs vind ik het al bijzonder dat er iets van ontbijt is. Wij hebben geen enkele geluidsoverlast ervaren. Niet van het verkeer, en ook niet van andere gasten. Misschien dat dat anders is als je een kamer in het hoofdgebouw hebt. Het is een oud gebouw in het centrum, daar zit geen A+++ glas in.

Het matras is aan de harde kant.

Viele Treppen und es hilft einem wohlweisslich keiner beim Gepäck. Über die hintere Einfahrt könnte man sich wenigstens die ersten Treppen sparen.

The hotel is conveniently located just a few minutes away from Kuching riverside. Loved the common areas with sofas and tables to work on. The pool was a plus but gets easily crowded as it is rather small.

There was a thick layer of dust on the clothset in my room and the pillows were so dirty that you could see the dirt through the pillow case. Only hotel that did not have a water refill station during my whole Borneo trip. Pool area should have more sunchairs.

Pool was fantastic after a day of exploring. Location was perfect, near most central sights and also lots of small cafes and eateries. The history is partly why I choose this place though

Obviously being an older building the walls are pretty thin but this is to be expected.

If you're not on the top floor, it's really quite noisy from your upstairs neighbours. The windows only have shutters so don't really keep the mosquitos out. But hey they have a nice pool.

Nous avions une chambre pour 4 AU DERNIER ETAGE, donc sous le toit avec un deux lits en bas et un grand lit en mezzanine. Il devait y avoir une différence de 5 degrés entre les deux niveaux. Pour régler la climatisation c'était un peu la guerre entre ceux du haut et ceux du bas. Évitez cette configuration et tout sera parfait pour vous.

Wir waren 4 Tage in Kuching in diesem Hotel. Zunächst das Positive: tolle Lage, toller Pool, tolles Kolonialflair und ein absolut fairer Preis.

Jetzt das nicht so Gute: unglaublich hellhörige, dunkle, kleine Zimmer. Wir hatten eine Nachbarin mit Husten, es war fast unerträglich laut. Das Frühstück verdient diesen Namen kaum. Nur Toast und etwas Obst. Die Kaffeemaschine arbeitet langsam, sodass man für den Morgenkaffee anstehen muss. Zu wenige Liegen am Pool und Achtung: Viele Treppen! Insgesamt daher eine durchwachsene Bewertung.

La casa i l,entorn es preciosa, i molt ben ambientada en estil rústic. El desdejuni de cortesia.

L, habitació Francis, tenia molta humitat i estava bruta. La finestra no tancava bé. El bany donava al passadís obert on tothom et podia escoltar com anaves al bany. La piscina tampoc estava neta ni cuidada. Trobem que li falta manca de manteniment general.

Entassement de chambre dans un labyrinthe avec escalier hyper pentu. Si vous avez de gros bagages, vous allez souffrir et personne ne viendra vous aider . Climatisation bruyante et qui fonctionne seulement si elle en a envie . Chambre exiguë et lit un peu moisi. Nous nous attendions a un petite pension familiale comme on peut en trouver parfois c'est en fait 40 chambres minuscules avec un semblant pour faire passer la pilule. Si vous avez les moyens , prenez une gamme au dessus, sinon il existe peut être mieux pour ce prix bisou

loved all the old furnishings, beautiful hardwood timber and historic charm including the old photographs on the walls and the liitle niches to read or relax. The pool was lovely and didnt have too much chlorine.

The breakfast didnt have much variety or fruit (ocassionally fruit on some days but not on most) (I don't eat gluten so bread can be an issue for me personally) I also had a problem with the light outside my room vetiallation grill and it let bright light from the exit sign in at night time- which i had to cover with a t-shirt.

De plek in Chinatown vlakbij de rivier en op een heuvel is fantastisch. Er zijn veel fijne ruimten in het hotel om te zitten en het zwembad is prettig.

De bedden zijn nogal hard en de kamers gehorig. Ook is er een vrij drukke weg die ‘s nachts goed hoorbaar is. Er zijn veel trappen. Van de receptie naar de begane grond zijn het al 48 treden. Het ontbijt is echt heel simpel

Une partie de la chambre était sous un escalier en bois donc énormément bruyant à chaque passage, très mal insonorisé nous avons dû demander à 1h du matin au personne de la chambre au dessus d arrêter de parler et déplacer des valises, petit déjeuné vide 20 min avant la fin, on l a signalé à un employé qui n en avait rien a faire et a finit par nous emmener du pain.

Très Bien placé, plein d’options pour manger. Un peu old school mais ça a son charme.

Assez bruyant dans l’ensemble, porte qui claque, les voitures et la ville pas loin, le bip bip des portes quand on ouvre. Les gens… L’enfer c’est les autres !🤣 Petit lits Des cheveux dans le sèche-cheveux, et le sol de la salle de bain pas très bien aspirer. Pommeau de douche cassé. Difficile de trouver le bon réglage entre le chaud et le froid. Ils font les chambres que au bout de 3 jours. Et sinon le matin à partir de 10 heures il vous laisse deux bouteilles d’eau. Personnel pas très aimable, sauf à la réception. Petit déjeuner très simple , toast, céréales, café, thé. Servi de sept heures à 10h. Ne venez pas à 9h55 car la personne qui s’occupe du petit déjeuner est déjà en train de taper du pied à 9h40 devant la porte pour vous presser . À 9h59 porte fermée, impossible d’accéder au petit déjeuner. Piscine très trouble . Bref, pas terrible

A great place for a 3 night stay exploring the city. After a day touring, the pool was a pleasant relief. The small breakfast was great.

A nice character hotel close to the waterfront and the plaza shopping center that has a large supermarket in the lower level. There are plenty of eating and drinking establishments nearby, some more adventurous than others. Friendly staff, nice pool.

breakfast was very simple (toast, cereal, tea, coffee) but plenty of local options just down the street when we wanted something more substantial. We frequented the Wind Meal cafe one street over.

We really liked where it was located! Very close to the city center and the river. The staff were welcoming and helpful.

Loved the location, the pool was perfect to relax on an afternoon. The bed was very comfy and bathroom nice.

The Aircon in the room took a long time for it to properly cool down the room (over 2 hours). Also the room could have had a latch to stop it locking immediately when closing.

El Hotel es una reliquia historica. Una vieja casona colonial que fue una especie de convento y escuela religiosa con mucho material de la epoca bien conservado. Al lado un comedor que formaba parte del predio original con cocina de Borneo remixada y muy gourmet. la piscina esta muy bien y todo con vegetacion de origen selvatico dando un entorno muy natural dentro de la ciudad. la ubicacion excelente

For some reason no towels after 4pm at the pool? Why not give everyone a pool towel at check in or keep offering?

It was a legacy building so we did not have our hopes high but it was actually kept clean and well maintain. The room is a bit hot and stuffy given how it was built, nevertheless, it was just as we expected. The location cannot be any better, it just right behind carpenter street.

The heat is emitting from the roof, windows and walls. Its like an oven.

Ein besonderes Schätzchen, kein typisches Hotel. Klar und einfach eingerichtet. Richtig gute Lage, alles gut erreichbar., Um die Ecke coole authentische Restaurants. Netter Poolbereich. Gute Betten! Kleines Minifrühstück. Süße Terrassen vor den Poolblickzimmern. Kleine geschmackvolle Ecken im ganzen Haus.

Alles andere war für so gut, daß uns der Lärm der Straße nicht gestört hat. Wir würden immer wieder kommen.

Staff : Orang Sarawak memang baik dan peramah. Bilik yang I book aircond rosak jadi mereka ganti dengan bilik menghadap kolam renang dan bagi dua bilik. Memang cantik sangat view. Sarapan : Sarapan yang simple iaitu roti bakar, ada mesin kopi, susu segar dan cereal. Location : Prime area. Memang walking distance takpun naik kereta ke semua tempat dekat-dekat je. Pemandangan dari kawasan breakfast tu memang cantik betul. Bilik : Katil kurang selesa rasa spring dan agak gatal. Perabot lama, kerana mengekalkan nilai-nilai asli kawasan ini. Kalau masuk ke dalam pun masih banyak barang-barang zaman 90 an dalam ni. Sangat nostalgik.

Small free breakfast included. Pool Feels homely. Breaks communal area to sit down and have breakfast outside. Great place to meet others and have a chat either at breakfast or around the pool. Perfect place to access the river and all the restaurants around the area.

Lots of stairs to get your bags up. No windows to see out of on the 2 bedroom apartment. Would book X2 pool view rooms next time. This is a great place to stay if you’re solo travelling to meet others, or just want a place that is a bit more personable.

Location was excellent, and on top of a hill, so you get the best view of the DUN building. We didn't try the breakfast as we did not know it was available and nobody at the reception mentioned it to us. We only noticed when we saw people coming in and out of the breakfast room. They provide earplugs in the room as at times it can get loud i guess? But also you can hear footsteps of people above you if you're on the lower ground. The Granary restaurant's food was good.

It is an old building, but doesn't mean you can't maintain it. Bathroom has a bit of moss and floor's dusty

- The building itself is really cool, if you like heritage buildings I recommend this place! Very beautifully restored. - Location is excellent. - The pool is lovely, with lush gardens around it and nice sunbeds. - Staff very friendly and helpful. - They sell very cheap beers in the fridge at reception.

- The walls and floors really are paper thin. If you plan to get an early night you should bring earplugs. - The hotel markets itself as family friendly, and while I think having some older kids around is ok, I dont think it's an appropriate place to bring small children since the walls are so thin. If you have a crying baby at night the whole place is going to hear it. - While the pool is lovely it's also really small which is only an issue when everybody brings their children. Sometimes we weren't able to enjoy the pool because it was like child soup. - Place could do with a deep clean and invest in some new bed sheets. - Towels provided smelt like butt.

It is not well insulated so we were disturbed by people in adjoining rooms.

-annoncé un Petit dej dans les annonces pour ne servir que du pain en tartine avec du beurre, des corn flakes , du lait et des bananes (quand il en reste ...) c'est un peu limite -l'eau de la piscine est TRES sale , c'est à se demander si elle est entretenue - les chambre sont très petites, compliquées a exploité si vous êtes deux avec une valise chacun - il n y a pas d'ascenseur, l'arrivée avec les valises est très sportive

It’s charm, history and location.

The family room had steep stairs up to a double mattress on the floor.

The air conditioning doesn't work, and doesn't seem to have been serviced for years. The staff are unhelpful and unfriendly. The place may have been restored in 2017 but feels like it hasn't been maintained since then. Feels like something between a hostel and a squat, not a 'boutique'.

Loved the location and common areas. Lots of options to sit read and chill. Pool was lovely as was my balcony. Breakfasts were simple but good; fresh fruits would be a nice addition.

Sooo many steps but trade off for the privacy (I was on second floor). Fresh Towels at the pool would be helpful. Once you drop them in the basket you need to chase someone for a fresh towel.

Great location. Friendly and helpful staff who were especially obliging with the management of our luggage during the 4 separate stays we had between overnight tours. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Showers were great.

El personal de recepcion.Según llegas a recepcion antes de pedirte los pasaportes ya te piden la fianza, que es pequeña pero hace feo. La recepción está aparte del hotel, al que hay que subir muchas escaleras para llegar a la habitación y no te explica nadie ni por donde está tu habitación. El desayuno era solo café y unas tostadas, el problema es que la leche estaba siempre cortada. Las habitaciones no tienen ventana solo tienen en el baño, no vi que se indicará esto en booking. El precio está muy bien pero es un alojamiento muy básico
