Bedroom clean and tidy
Classic old hotel that would have been grand in its day. Could be awesome again once renovated. Lovely staff. Food at the restaurant next door was delicious.
Quite run down but hopefully the owners can bring it back to life. Interesting people living out the back…
People smoking in the rooms staff drinking all night and people fighting in the hall ways grumpy staff and I would not stay again
It’s close to town. The room was clean as was the linen.
One of the mattresses on the beds had such hard springs they were prominate and it was impossible to be comfortable on, purgatory to spend a night on. The manager was untidily dressed and not friendly on arrival. The hotel is situated by a large roundabout and frequent and noisy cattle trucks can be heard throughout the daylight hours. The sink in the bedroom had a continuously leaking tap and the sink was blocked so when you cleaned your teeth or washed your face the water stayed in the basin for ages. You won’t get a piping hot shower. My shower was warm enough but I didn’t use the cold water tap at all.
Hard to think of anything I liked to be honest.
The guy in reception wasn't friendly. The carpet going up the stairs was hideous. Original plumbing and electrical. Very hard to flush the toilet. Water in shower only just hot enough. Couldn't have the kettle and heater going at the same time! No complimentary milk either. Wouldn't recommend and won't stay there again.
Location was close to town. Price was good
The venue is run down, a bit smelly
An old art deco hotel, a little worn but very clean and comfortable. Added bonus of a laundromat on sight. Walking distance to an excellent Indian reastaurant
No compkaints
Convenience.
The grand stair case.. from yesteryear absolutely beautiful
other guest tramping their dirty boots
i loved the old historical building still operating the Staff were kind and helpful
i didn't like other people complaining about this place because 1. value for money. alternative motels are expensive and 🤮this was nice on a budget.
None!
Room heater didnt work as i didnt notice the outlet was tripped when heated the water. Poor electrical supplies. No good parking space.
This is our second time staying here. Location to local attractions is great. The hotel it self has history hopefully it is restored to its former grandeur which would be great.
That the writing room and telephone room are being used as storage.
Good value, stayed there before, central location
Would have loved a second pillow
Warm and clean
Clean with good location
Very dated and well worn like an old pair of shoes Lot of road noise
Affordable. Convenient location. Quirky character. Clean. Quiet.
Bed was comfortable
Needs a good clean and renovations, entrace smells like a brewery, accomadation on 1st floor, only way up is stairs, stair case not senior/invalid freindly parking out on street
The hotel is an old style art deco hotel. It was clean and comfortable and although the premises are in need of an overall refresh, which the owners are working on,I loved the character of the place. It was very good value.
Clean, Easy to find, affordable, classic charm,
Being an old hotel the hot water was warm at best, the multi plugs could only handle one thing plugged into it at a time so I ended up just plugging directly into the wall. But they were only small issues.
Perfect location, beautiful hotel, restaurant on site, quiet! Friendly staff, I checked out late by 40min and no extra charge!
No elevator, no onsite parking, no small refrigerator?
Handy area for where we were going on our trip. Grand old hotel which are interesting, plenty of room.
Would have been good to have had real milk instead of packet creamer for the tea / coffee
Very cool art deco , telephone both
Needs a lot of work. Room should be priced at $100 and below
Super clean
Great location for accessing blue springs and Hobbiton. Room was spacious and clean and had a smart tv and fridge.
Was sometimes hard to reach reception as staff could be busy with other tasks. Once checked in and had access codes this was no longer an issue.
Happy with our room. Given the price we paid it definitely delivered what we required for a one night stay. Would stay again if travelling that way
Rien
Le bruit, l’attitude du propriétaire, propreté , télévision qui ne marchait pas, manque d’intimité dans les toilettes, fenêtre qui ne fermait pas, lit très inconfortable, un des pires établissements où j’ai jamais logé
NO WATER SUPPLIED COULDNT SHOWER!! SHOCKING FOR A PLACE THAT HAS SPRING WATER
NOT BEEN ABLE TO SHOWER
good for the price
Great feel about the place, the history, very cozy, friendly staff who are making an effort to look after a historical hotel. and handy restaurant. Little smart TV with Prime Video. I would stay again
The bed was a bit hard for me
Convenient position
Needs a lot of maintenance Tv terrible Pillow was hard
Very clean, warm and tidy
A lovely old Art Deco hotel needing much refurbishment. The beautiful grand entrance foyer will hopefully be retained. Good location close to everything. I did not use the cafe/restaurant. The bed was extremely comfortable but the room overlooked a yard ful of construction rubbish. It was ok for what I paid for the night.
The front doors were locked when I arrived and no notices about how to enter. As I walked away a person came and opened the door. The office area behind reception was a complete shambles and what was once a beautiful entrance area was all closed off I am assuming for alterations. There were piles of construction rubbish outside the entrance. It was obvious some work was underway but no mention was made of this. The wiring for the tv was a bit dodgy.
A glorious sweeping staircase with a portrait photo of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip at the top strongly hinted at a past magnificence. Now the place is faded and jaded. We did have a very quiet room at the back of the establishment so we got a great sleep on the comfortable bed. There was also plenty of hot water in the shower. There were two small kitchens available for guests with limited facilities. The kitchens were quite dirty though so I washed everything before using it.
Quaint retro grand old lady. Pleased to see it being refurbished
Booked queen bed, given 2 singles( with apologies) one of which was dreadful. Hard & lumpy.
The hotel is old school, retro big staircase etc- I assume it’s under renovation at the moment. room was really clean, had good wifi speed, toiletries, kettle, tea/coffee and a smart TV which was good. I was able to park right outside the hotel too.
My threshold for leaving negative reviews is pretty high but I slept terribly here. I’ve been using cheap motels and holiday parks while travelling NZ for the last 5 weeks so have a pretty good idea of what this sort of price generally gets you. I expected very basic facilities for what I paid but the windows are single glazed and did not fully shut meaning it was drafty and the road and train line outside that run all night are basically in your room. I had noise cancelling earphones on with white noise and it still got through! The shower head was also fixed in the wall at shoulder height (I’m 5’7) and had good power but didn’t run very hot. Based on this stay compared with other places in similar price range in NZ I cannot recommend it until they do some serious work to reduce the noise pollution at least. There are lots of holiday parks here which offer individual cabins with a full shared kitchen and shower facilities for the same price point. Sorry
EXCELLENT PLACE
NICE AND CLEAN VALUE FOR MONEY
Cheap option for a nights stay
Thin walls. Pretty noisy
staff was welcoming and friendly down to earth people big smiles all around
location
hotel
Nothing
The guy in the reception was extremely rude and he was yelling at us and the sheets were so dirty and dust and we inform them but they said it’s clean
The room was clean.
We were 100% sure we booked a large double bed room and while gentlemen showed us the email saying twin beds ( which were extremely uncomfortable) we did not get an email ourselves telling us the change. The hall ways have been tiled making them echoing .The shower was only warm without cold water and the shower rose was suitable for someone who was 5 foot tall. No where to put bags. Duvets were Kmart cheapies . We were not expecting the ritz as we knew it was under renovation. But feel that maybe it would have been better to have a few rooms well and as money came available do more.
Le charme de l' hôtel Bon wifi
Location. Clean and comfortable beds.
Worn out bath and room.
Nothing comes to mind
So first of all the photo of the book that I’d booked was completely different to the room I got; the photo showed a much larger, more modern room. There was only one pillow which was way too thick and really uncomfortable to sleep on. The curtain rail was attached to the wall so when I pulled the curtain to close it, the whole curtain/rail came off the wall! There was no light in the actual shower, which meant that I either had to shower with the curtain open and get the floor wet, or close the curtain and not be able to see what I’m doing. Also the actual shower head was really low down so I had to bend my knees awkwardly to wash my hair!! The shared kitchen was appalling - it was so dirty, messy, old and gross, it was not a nice experience cooking in there; also the tiny fridge was so full there was basically no space to put food in there. In general the whole place was very old and didn’t use a nice feel to it - I felt sad being in there. Oh and the noise from the road was quite loud too. Definitely won’t be coming back!
Close to food and town. Nice area to walk around
Affordable, comfortable place to rest your head. Easy access to room and respec of privacy forl people.
The traffic. But that's out of the hotels control.
Great entrance area. Very grand stairway
Die Lage war gut für uns
Alles war oll, es war sehr laut an dem Kreisverkehr, die Küche nicht sauber
a broken shower and a bad smelling hotel.. bad people living in .. you will be happy when you will leave
i forgot a pair of shorts; i called them 5times; i asked customer assistence too; they joked me on the phone
Nothing.
If this had been the first time to use booking. com I would not use again.
We needed a stop after a long drive and this hotel is interesting with lots of potential . We had a good sleep and would love to see what the owner does to create a vintage space .
Location and price
Cheap and cheerful, good location for restaurants across the road. Great place to stop while travelling the North Island
Bit dated but very clean and tidy
Parking was street side
We got a main room which was great, loved the view
Shower had hair on the walls - could have scrubbed it down from the last stay
staff member was nice.
appalling accomodation not been upgraded since 1952, permanent noisy residents seem to live in the hotel it was like a nasty hostel
Staff very helpful, especially as I was a late check in. Also very clean and comfortable.
Good value
Central location, clean, Victorian, majestic vibes inside with well-maintained wooden handrails on the staircase, rooms with clean comfy bed. Hosts responsive to our needs and request.
No pre warning the hotel is in the middle of renovations, on arrival the hotel looks abandoned. front doors locked at all times no information on how to check in until we rung number on the front door. although the room was great there were no offer of complementary milk or access to cooking facilities. Room had kettle and tea/coffee/sugar provided. no parking except on the street. Because of the renovating happening no TV and internet was only for one night, The host was very apologetic for the inconvenience.
Location is great
A clean and compact room with all the amenities. No aircon but the provided fan was ok and the window opened to a nice breeze.
a chair in the room would have been handy
The staff were very helpful and friendly
The toilet lid fell down when I sat on the toilet🙃
Very affordable
No table in the room.
