The hotel was marketed as a spa hotel when in fact it isn’t and the receptionist was one of the most rude people I have ever had to deal with

Hotel is fine for a night stay. I found the bed to be uncomfortable, but others may not. Rest of the hotel and facilities were good.

Calm, polite, friendly

I called the hotel to say we were celebrating a 40th birthday. They said some welcome drinks and free upgraded will be complimentary and thank you for choosing the hotel when we arrived. We didn’t even have the room I originally booked and no drinks and no complimentary gift. Room was very tired. Hotel is beautiful. Breakfast and staff was amazing.

Hotel and leisure centre were lovely especially the outside pool and jacuzzi on a hot day! Dinner was average for the cost and did wait ages for a drink. Breakfast was tasty and good selection. No air con in the room which was the biggest problem on a hot night as lack of sleep ruined the overall stay.

We always like returning to Pontlands Park - rooms are lovely and definitely among the largest hotel rooms we stay in. Access to the Reflections spa ensures that when we stay here, it feels like we could be anywhere in the world. A lovely escape from reality

Lovely stay. Only comment is for the price disappointed with self serve breakfast. Also no offer of other coffees except the awful flat white that was served. Finally no offer for other eggs than the pre cooked fried and scrambled

Stayed here for my honeymoon, food was amazing and varied with friendly staff who couldnt have done more, despite me and my wife being alternative and probably not the hotels usual clientele we were treated with nothing but kindness and respect, my wife suffers from chronic pain and needs ice packs to sooth pain, despite no fridge/freezers in the rooms the staff were able to store her icepacks for her.

House and surrounding it felt like a large country house. Rooms were very nice with plenty of character Leisure part was clean and well maintained - good weather definitely helped Friendly service at the front desk too

The hotel itself was located in a nice quiet country area, was quite old school in style and decor, but could do with a modern upgrade in places. We were very disappointed, as we booked it purely because of the pool/spa facilities, as a family stay with our son, but we weren’t even able to use it throughout our stay as a family and were told it was ‘adults only’. We were never informed that it had limited access due to club membership until after we had made a reservation. More transparency and upfront information is needed - check before booking as we feel like we did not get value for money at all.

Another great stay! Lovely room. Breakfast always wonderful. We also had lunch which was really good. The place and the staff never disappoint. We didnt catch the name of the lovely waitress who served us brekfast and lunch but she was very efficient and professional. We visited the spa twice which is always great - must try and book in the summer when we can sit in the gardens.

The staff were very helpful and efficient. The bedrooms large however the bathrooms very run down broken panel on the bath awful stains on the tiles and rust on the towels heating

Unfortunately the swimming pool didn’t open till 9am at weekends which didn’t allow sufficient time to use the facilities before breakfast closed.

Staff were friendly. Building was nice, but the room was not that comfortable. No fridge and the safe was broken. The worst thing was that the bed was a 6ft mattress but we only had a 5ft duvet, which didn’t cover two people in the bed. This meant we had a poor night’s sleep.

Very comfy bed , quiet , nice leisure centre with excellent facilities that you can use for free during your stay Spacious and quiet room Room service food was very nice (sandwiche/fries/salad Although quite expensive totalling £19 I can't really fault the hotel in any way Only thing I would say is that I was told I could use the pool until 6pm when I arrived only to be told it was closing at 5 40 which was disappointing. But other than that I have no negatives to mention

We picked the hotel for the use of the facilities which were lovely the staff were all very accommodating, the outside pool was lovely as was the jacuzzi and sauna.

I enjoyed my stay as per usual and the spa facilities available are a treat at the end of the day. The hotel has a lovely feel to it and the staff are friendly and professional. The food is also bet good in the restaurant.

Great stay staff very welcoming

Nice place but wish we knew there was going to be a wedding band blasting towards our room until midnight. Knowing we had a baby it would have been nice to warn us of the noise or offer a room away from the music.

The restaurant staff are wonderful, tbh I'm reluctant to share how wonderful this place is would like to keep it secret. A family were v annoying with a tennis ball and needed to be stopped only down side. Cocktails are excellent.

The hotel, staff and the food are all excellent. The grounds are lovely to explore and walk around. If that is not enough, there is an indoor and an outdoor swimming pool.

Everyone was so friendly and accommodating! Especially Helder Emma and Ash . We had a truly relaxing experience and the BEST jacket potatoes we have ever had!

Very good hotel, but would caution if going with children if you want to use the pool. There are very strict restrictions of when and how the pool can be used, but the small print is only shared once you arrive at the hotel. We booked and paid full price for my stepson to stay in a separate room only for him to be turned away from the swimming poo. It turned out that supervised 15-year olds are only allowed in the pool during a 2.5 hour period during the day, and that was only pointed out to us in the small print as he was turned away from the pool. Hotel management told us rules are rules and as the spa/pool is not part of the hotel, they can’t do anything. We would have gone somewhere else as we wanted a hotel with a pool in Essex (being in Chelmsford was not essential for us). Separately, breakfast food is good, but the service experience varies. First morning we had lovely service, but the second day we had a very rude server.

Excellent facilities, service, food and staff, the ridiculously hot weather was a problem in my upstairs even with windows open and fan maxed really could do with air con, also had a really noisy extract going on and off through the night. But think that was just this room dont stay in 69!

Enjoyed our stay. Hotel lovely and staff very friendly and helpful. Used Reflections Spa but was disappointed as so many children in the pool with floats etc that unable to swim any lengths. Changing room too busy as well with children running in and out some of an older age. No privacy when changing. Breakfast was good, but felt was all undercooked ie bacon, sausages, hash browns tomatoes could have done with an extra 5 mins in the oven.

Lovely big room, very clean and comfortable. Staff were very friendly. Food very good. Better coffee needed in room 😢 Grounds very nice. Will stay again.

Beautiful old building and grounds, perfect for a family visit to Chelmsford

Charming period house renovated into a modern hotel with beautiful gardens and surrounding property. Amazing cooked breakfast buffet. Enjoyed opening room window to hear birds each morning (hotel surrounded by nature). Staff were very helpful in arranging taxis, directions, late night snacks, and loaning me a phone charger. I definitely recommend this hotel.

Highly recommend this hotel, comfy beds, great hospitality, very peaceful, although Joel want very busy.

This way our second time staying at this hotel. We really enjoyed it. The staff are so lovely and will always go out of their way to help you. Rooms are spacious and quiet. The grounds are tranquil and well kept. Breakfast is always great. The pool and spa facilities are excellent. Can't fault it

Hard to fault this place. Lovely hotel, friendy, helpful staff and a lovely pool and spa area. Food and drink options are good and reasonably priced. Will definitely stay again

It was a very pleasant stay

The hotel is ok. The bathrooms are old and in need of refurbishment. The service is mediocre with the exception of one or two people, the other staff were not openly friendly or helpful. The food in the restaurant is ok but not exceptional and is overpriced and they automatically add 12.5% service charge. I have not know this as a resident in a hotel before.

A beautiful place to stay. So clean and spacious and very quiet. Every little detail thought of and we felt very special. Evening meal was lovely and a huge choice for breakfast. All the staff that we met were very friendly and helpful. Would recommend this hotel as somewhere to stay

This hotel is in a lovely area, quiet and safe. The room we were staying in was large with a comfortable bed, lovely bathroom It overlooked the gardens at the back where there was a marquee. We stayed 3nights. It was very welll cleaned everyday. Just be aware, when there are events taking place in the marquee or conference rooms, it will be noisy in rooms at the back. Just request a quieter room. The staff and management are all lovely and will go overboard to ensure you enjoy your stay.. We would recommend this hotel.

Lovely hotel and friendly helpful staff. There were easily available ramps for our wheelchair but it did detract a little from an otherwise excellent overnight stop.

We have stayed at Pontlands Park on several occasions and have never been disappointed with the level of service and accommodation.

Gorgeous property and staff were welcoming. Super spacious room and breakfast really good.

The room were terribly dated, bathroom had a dirty old smell. Bath was old and dirty too.

very spacious rooms. the whole place felt like a country mansion. loved that we had an old fashioned key to the room.

A lovely relaxing hotel where we have stayed before. Ideal for a long weekend. Has become a bit pricey ( as has everything these days!). I noticed a few small things which were not to my liking this time. Eg. No shower cap provided in bathroom, no choice of wholemeal bread, no choice of milk at breakfast (unless you ask), no alternative to butter provided for breakfast toast. Swimming pool was packed with non hotel residents could hardly get into the changing room so I gave it a miss. Still a lovely place but noticeably slipping a bit.

The location was very quiet and facilities were very good.Staff helpful and friendly and free breakfast was really good.Didn’t get to use the swimming pools but will definitely book again.

Fantastic hotel

Fantastic stay with a welcoming, clean and friendly environment. Stayed with our two year in tow and staff were very happy to make him feel involved and welcome. Highly recommend this to anyone.

Ver nice hotel. The mattress on the bed was slightly uncomfortable. Coffee tray was a bit poor. A coffee machine would have been a nice touch considering the cost of the room. Not sure breakfast was worth £20.00 either on reflection.

We have stayed at Pontlands Park several times now and it is always a relaxing treat, the staff are very friendly and helpful and the leisure facilities adjoining are a real bonus.

The receptionist was lovely and helpful and the spa is wonderful
