Reviewed Sep 13, 2026We loved the private onsen, particularly the outdoor one - that's the one to go for! There were six of us so we got a whole dorm room to ourselves, which was perfect. J-Hoppers is in a great location, particularly if you are walking the southern route of that portion of the Kumano Kodo. We walked the other way and caught a bus from Hongu, which was really easy, and caught the bus back to Hongu in the morning to start walking again - super easy. The You Got It bar had great food, and is less than 100 metres down the road. Yunomine Onsen is the most gorgeous little town, one of the most beautiful towns any of us had been in our lives, highly recommended!!
Breakfast was very basic, rice porridge with no flavouring and very bitter pickled plums but everything else was great. It's a busy place due to the value for money, but the facilities can accommodate everyone well.

- Toilets and bathrooms areas were a bit small/narrow - Showers is only inside the onsen rooms, so if all the 3 onsen room are occupied by guests, it’s impossible to take a shower

Tiny thing: the curtains in the bunk bed were not well-protected against the light. Because I had to wake up early, I woke up every 2 hours, thinking it was bright outside and that I was oversleeping.

洗濯機が少し古い様子。 また、スタッフも、同じ洗濯機と乾燥機を使うようだが、時間がバッティングしてしまった。 スタッフの選択は、客のいない午前中に済まして欲しいものだと感じた。

Reviewed Jul 24, 2026Un meraviglioso ostello nella natura. La posizione è ottima per i sentieri più famosi del Kumano Kodo e anche per le fermate degli autobus. Vicino si trovano due ristoranti per cena. La stanza è molto ampia e si dorme come da tradizione giapponese (a noi è piaciuto molto ed è stato comodissimo), i bagni sono sempre liberi e puliti, ovvio che essendo un ostello immerso nella natura si possano trovare a volte degli insetti. Le aree comuni sono molto ben attrezzate e pulite (cucina e salotto). Stupendi gli onsen!! (Soprattutto quello all'aperto, la doccia si trova lì ed è fornita di tutto l'occorrente, alla reception danno anche gli asciugamani). Lo staff incredibilmente gentile, ci hanno anche aiutato a spedire i bagagli nella struttura successiva. Consigliatissimo!

ドミトリールーム内は人間にも影響しそうなほど虫除けの匂いが強い。立地が山の中のため、しょうがないとは思う。

Reviewed Jul 4, 2026De accommodatie heeft de perfecte ligging voor de pelgrimstocht! Het is een prima hostel met alle benodigdheden die bij een hostel horen. Fijn dat ze een restaurant dichtbij hebben die van dezelfde eigenaar (waarbij je korting krijgt).
Wij hadden een privé kamer en de ramen konden niet open. De kamer rook wat muf. Alsof er vroeger veel in gerookt is. Dit gaf ons een benauwd gevoel.

Reviewed Jun 19, 2026That was one of the best guesthouse I've ever been. It was located close to everything in the village and it's only one hour away by foot from Kumano Hongu Taisha. Beds are comfortable, the house is big, kichen functionnal and they have everything you need like food or drinks. There are three onsen baths, that's the best thing !! The staff is really lovely and kind. I loved my stay here so much that I extended it. I would recommend 100% and I'm surely coming back one day ! Thank you !

Just understand what you are booking and at what price. It's a hostel with a shared bathroom, not a hotel. For us, it was absolutely comfortable, and the room was very spacious and clean, but it might not be a fit for everyone.

Reviewed Jun 8, 2026I felt simply great there from the very first moment. I was shown where everything was and how to do things. There are 3 private onsens that are free to use, where you can lock yourself in and enjoy. The location is nice too. Thank you for even providing a 10% discount to the restaurant nearby, where they prepare healthy and delicious steamed food.

Reviewed Jun 7, 2026Perfect location - 2 minutes walk to the main river and evening bar/restaurant. Beautifully decorated, traditional house. Has three separate onsen baths, two inside one outside - all excellent.

Reviewed Jun 6, 2026Skvělá lokalita, příjemný domácký personál. Samotný pokoj (postel) byl v pořádku, pohodlné, čisté.
Ve vedlejším sdíleném pokoji byla skupina čínských turistů, která byla velmi hlučná, stále bouchali dveřma, a to jak pozdě večer, tak brzy ráno. Před pokojem byla k dispozici umyvadla, kde si opět čínští turisté bez ohledu k ostatním vbrzku ráno začali fénovat své ponožky (!), což vzbudilo všechny ostatní. Hluk se tedy šířil příliš jednoduše všude.

Reviewed Jun 5, 2026Bellissima l'esperienza onsen. Soprattutto avere la possibilità di usarle 24h su 24. Camere in stile tradizionale giapponese. Yunomine è un piccolo paesino di montagna molto tranquillo, bello dormire con il suono della natura e del fiume. Da provare l'esperienza delle uova sode da bollire con l'acqua termale, in centro paese.

Reviewed Jun 5, 2026Gemütlicher Gemeinschaftsbereich, gut ausgestattete Küche mit der Möglichkeit, einfache Speisen zu erwerben. Sehr freundliches und hilfsbereites Personal. 3 schöne Onsen. Saubere, bequeme abgetrennte Schlafabteile.

Reviewed Jun 4, 2026Well appointed hostel. Yunomine is well worth an overnight stop. Selection of snacks and drinks available for purchase. Good local restaurant nearby. Strongly recommend getting the bus from Hongu rather than walking.
