The property is very well maintained and the location is very close to Ella city centre and cafés

It’s a bit hard to reach and involves walking and climbing steps so not suitable if you don’t like a bit of walk. I loved the bit of extra adventure though

We had a wonderful stay at Ella Alpine Resort. Lalith and the team were amazing hosts and went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable throughout our stay. He was incredibly accommodating and even helped organise trusted transport to our next destination, which made our travel plans stress-free. The breakfast was fantastic, with both Western and traditional Sri Lankan options to choose from, all freshly prepared and delicious. The resort is set in a beautiful, peaceful location, and it’s just a short walk along the train tracks into Ella town, making it both scenic and convenient. Highly recommend Ella Alpine Resort to anyone visiting Ella!

We absolutely loved our stay at Ella Alpine Resort. The owners are attentive, helpful and absolutely wonderful. They made our stay so easy and comfortable, arranging transport for us wherever we needed to go. Breakfast was incredible also, highly recommend, we wish we had more meals here. My partner even fell sick while we were staying in Ella and they were so helpful in arranging transport to the medical clinic for us and checking in on us to make sure everything was ok. Truly gems.

I had an impression that i pay a visit to one of my family members - it was very welcoming - you really feel the care. Wasserdruck in der Dusche etwas schwach. Die Strasse zur Unterkunft ist holprig, aber gut befahrbar.

When I first looked it up, I saw some older reviews that were negative, but those were from years ago when the building wasn’t finished. Now, it’s a beautifully built place—spotlessly clean, no bugs (which can be an issue in Ella), with a comfortable bed, spacious room, and a pristine bathroom. Everything was just perfect. But the real highlight was the view. From the balcony, I saw the most breathtaking sunrises and panoramas you can find in Ella. The service was outstanding. Absolutely beautiful views and we loved that the location was a bit out of town because the walk was amazing and we saw so much wildlife. Staff are very good and was always available if we needed anything. The breakfast included was good and bonus is we had monkeys to watch while eating 😊

One of our favourite stays in Sri Lanka! The host was very welcoming and it was a pleasure getting to know him and talk about his country. We were greeted with tea and biscuits on their balcony which has jaw dropping views! You are right in the middle of nature with the mountains surrounding you get easy to get into the centre of town. The room was clean and nicely decorated with a lovely balcony and with the same wonderful view. We had a delicious traditional Sri Lankan breakfast as well. Would highly recommend!

Lovely little place tucked away in peace and quiet yet just 10-15 min walk to Ella’s main road of restaurants and shops. Simple decor. Bed has just a sheet but blankets were provided on request. Good shower with consistent hot water. Lovely balcony with incredible views of the valley. Friendly staff. Great choice for breakfast. There is a great bar just opened next door that does lovely cocktails and some snacks.

Everything was lovely with our stay

This property is incredibly situated with an amazing view down Ella Gap. The rooms are built into the side of the hill, with wooden doors and windows openingnupmon the view - so tjink more like a challet (or lodge!) than fancynjotel room. You will need your mosquito repellant. The staff are really lovely and can't do enough for you, helping to make plans for hikes, arranging transport, doing any washing you have- they are really spot on. The hotel is up Waterfall Road, which is essentialy a bumpy track, but Tuk Tuks can get up there easily enough. There is a little shortcut into town, walking along the railway (perfectly normal in Sri Lanka and if a train comes, you could easily outrun it!), then, especially at night, best to junp in a Tuk Tuk back up to the Alpine Lodge. It's a very relaxing place, easy to access hiking routes, and a world away from downtown Ella whoch is very touristy. I hoghly recommend a few nights here.

I had the most serene and heartwarming stay at Ella Alpine Resort for 2 nights, and I genuinely can't recommend it enough. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with such warmth and care. Special thanks to Indran (the kind caretaker), John (the amazing cook), and Priyantha (the ever-attentive manager) — they made our stay unforgettable. The hospitality was beyond my expectations. They took the time to understand what we liked and customized meals just for us. As someone who prefers fresh fruit juices, I was so delighted they had them readily available. The food was not only delicious but thoughtfully prepared, and the desserts were a lovely surprise! Cleanliness is always a priority for me, especially the washrooms — and I was thrilled to find everything spotless and fresh. My parents, uncle and aunt accompanied me, and they enjoyed every moment of the stay too. And the view... absolutely breathtaking. I had plans to visit a viewpoint for sunrise, but honestly, the view from the resort itself was more than enough. Mornings were spent sipping tea, reading a book, and meditating outdoors — all surrounded by nature’s calm and beauty. It was incredibly grounding. As someone who works in branding, I truly appreciated the aesthetic details — the green and blue color theme flowing beautifully through the curtains, pillows, and towels, in harmony with the white linens and brown wood furniture. It felt so well-thought-out and intentional. Even the view outside matched — rich green hills and the endless blue sky. One detail that touched me deeply was their logo — a hand gesture symbolizing giving. That really resonated with my experience here — I truly felt received, cared for, and appreciated. This resort suits everyone — families, couples, solo travelers. I’m already planning a solo trip soon, and another visit with my brothers during their holidays. Ella Alpine Resort doesn’t just offer a stay — it offers a feeling. A vibe. A memory that stays. Highly, highly recommended.

A really lovely accommodation with the most incredible views. The room was clean and spacious with a balcony so you wake up to a view of the mountails The host Priyanatha is so warm, welcoming and always available to help. Breakfast was lovely (especially the hoppers). A short walk (or tuk tuk) into town. Loved my stay here! Thank you!

Thanks to management of the property. My daughter and I had a lovely and peaceful stay. The rooms are clean and with all the basic amenities. A very homely care and the food is marvelous. I observed that the management took personal effort to locate a guest's phone which she has left in the tuk tuk The view from the hotel was superb. The management was kind enough to organise a guide for us to take us through this unbelievable landscape in Ella. Real value for the money.

We stayed for two nights to visit Ella area. The hotel, the dinner and breakfast where good. The room clean and big enough. The hospitality was great. And the view was great. To get to this place take a tuktuk and be aware of the steps to the hotel. But they take care of you. The only small thing was the hard bed, but if you prefer that it's okay.

This beautiful hotel is a 25-minute walk from the centre of Ella, offering stunning views over a lush valley. The sunrises here are truly spectacular. The staff is friendly and welcoming, making you feel at home from the moment you arrive. Breakfast is great, and the rooms are clean and spacious. While there’s no air conditioning, the ceiling fan does an excellent job of keeping the room cool in the temperate climate of Ella. The road leading up to the hotel can be a bit muddy during rainy weather and has an uphill slope, but it’s manageable. At night, the path may not be well-lit, though you’ll still feel safe walking.

Property is like 1 km away from the main Ella town , but scheduled but the view from the hotel is amazing , best sunrise view, nicely managed , staff is amazing and very helpful

The resort enjoys a wonderful view of the valley and the staff are incredibly friendly. Each room enjoys a breathtaking view and a high risk of visits by the local monkeys. We ranked the resort as average because of the price point and poor amenities. The property is twice as expensive as neighboring properties, but without the amenities or services. We would have given 4 or 5 stars if the property presented itself as a hostel and not like a resort. Also of note, guests are required to climb steep stairs to enter or depart the property.

PLACE We really liked the fact that this place it’s a bit far from the city center (15min walk with quite narrow road - not so steep I could easily do it couple times and Im not fit person ;) which make it quite place with a beautiful view on little Adam’s peak- you can look at the sunrise from your bed (!!!) Still next to the property you can find couple of bars and restaurants and cooking class and laundry place. You can also enjoy very tasty Sri Lanka ( or English) breakfast with this stunning view. PEOPLE Smiling and very friendly stuff, you can approach them with any favor and they will help.

Unpaved rode getting to this place. Construction in progress. Steps going down to rooms uneven and no railings. Room spacious and basic. No decor. Love the shower and balcony overlooking the mountains. Staff very friendly.

We really enjoyed our stay at Ella Alpine Resort. The staff were polite and helpful. The rooms were clean. When you come, be sure to notice that the furniture is made of solid wood. What a nice touch. We enjoyed seeing a variety of birds from the terrace and spotting a deer while eating breakfast. One afternoon's "monkey migration" of about 30 monkeys going across the terrace on their way down the hill had me laughing out loud. The resort is in a quiet location which is great for getting good sleep!

Challenging to get there , bad road

Well worth the room rate. Beautiful view from the room. Manager was very very helpful. Not easy for a car to get to from the main part of Ella but easy to walk.

Amazing view from the terrace, super attentive and kind staff - they are very responsive and will help you with everything. The rooms are nice and clean, you can start the Ella Rock hike from here going along the train tracks

Maybe the bathrooms could use a little refreshing

A simple lodge with awesome views! I was gently greeted by the rising sun. No Aircon but temperatures were between 16 to 18 degrees Celsius in the early morning. You need to be moderately fit to climb down 2 flights of stairs to reach your room. The road up is very tight and big cats may have difficulties going uphill in the tight environment. Hotel manager Priyanatha helped me book a very punctual Tuk Tuk that fetched me up and down. Thank you!

We had a very nice stay the two days we stayed in Ella, so thank you manager Priyanatha. He was serviceminded and very nice to talk with. The breakfast was good and the wiev was fantastic. And if we needed something we got very good help. He arranged tuk tuk to the Lipton tea plantation and taxi to Kandy.

Currently under new ownership and undertaking improvements, the owner kindly checked in via WhatsApp, before arrival, on arrival and during our stay. The new onsite manager, Priyanatha is also amazing! He was welcoming and made our stay very comfortable and memorable. Breakfast (if your room includes this) was always prepared fresh by the cook with delicious fresh fruit & juice each day to your liking or request. On one night we requested dinner (as we were returning late after a day trip) and this was made to our requests and was also yummy! The property is walking distance to the town Center or a tuk tuk will also get you there. Only issue is the road to access the property. I know this has nothing specifically to do with the Alpine Resort! However many hotels, resorts, home stays, rooms to rent are on this road and it would be awesome if they banded together to ensure access is improved. Currently some sections are narrow and difficult to drive making it difficult for cars and even the Tuktuks! Recommend this hotel for a wonderful getaway from the noise and bustle of the town. I arrived to this wonderfull resort after spending a week in other places in Sri Lanka. The room was very Nice, with a stunning view over the mountains in Ella. Since the resort is away from the city center, there is very Quiet here, which is great if you seek calmness and quietness. For me as a solo traveller, it was too quiet here, and too far away from the city center, although the view was simply stunning. The host Indran was so sweet and gave me a Warm welcome. He made breakfast for me everyday, with variations of juice and fruit plates. He also showed me Little Adam’s Peak, and Nine Arch bridge, and helped me taking pictures. I experienced spiders in my room, and since I dont like spiders, it was a problem. I also experienced a lot of noise from animals outside, especially from birds. During the election, I wanted to leave before I was suppose to, and the host Rochane adviced me to wait to before or after the election, so I decided to leave the hotel before the election. He was so kind to refund me for 1 night and told me that He would give the money to Indran for me, which was really kind of him.

Absolutely loved it. Indran was an amazing host and cooked the most delicious breakfast. Was super helpful getting transport and had great tips for Ella. Very clean room. Comfortable bed. Gorgeous views. The room had an outdoor setting for meals too.

We had a wonderful stay here! It's a great location for anyone travelling solo, with friends or as a family as we did. It is within walking distance to Ella Town. Our room was comfortable, clean with a lot of space on the balcony to take in the view. The best part about the room was that you can relax on your bed and take in the gorgeous view of the Ella gap. The manager Indran looked after us very well. We thoroughly enjoyed the fantastic Srilankan breakfasts he cooked! We would definitely recommend a stay at Ella Alpine to anyone visiting Ella!

Stayed here for a night with my partner during our stay in Ella, we were mostly exploring Ella during our time but the gentleman who ran the place was so accommodating and very nice. The place has great views, very comfortable and I highly recommended this place if you are in a budget.

This place has an amazing view, with the sounds of birds in the morning and every now and the monkeys passed the place. From the bed you're able to see the sun rising in the morning very special! The manager and the owner are very kind and made my stay very special. Next to helping to organize interesting day trips they offered help when I needed it as something hard happened in my private life. They listened to what I needed and supported me in different ways (like going with me to the village, even offering help in Kandy or Colombo). A big thank you for that! The manager arranged tuktuk transport with very friendly drivers and he is a great cook by the way! The room was clean and big enough. It has a table and some seats inside and at the terrace. So I recommend this place from he bottom of my heart!

The breakfast area needs a bit of shade as it gets too hot!

Boende med magisk utsikt. Rummet var simpelt men fullt funktionellt och helt precis vad vi behövde. Utsikten från rummet är fantastisk. Personalen är supertrevliga och väldigt snabba på att svara på frågor. Boendet har endast tre rum vilket gör att boendet känns väldigt privat. Ligger ca 10 minuters gång från centrum (perfekt enligt oss).

Wasn't told to leave my key behind so i came back to an unmade bed and the previous nights trash.

Rooms clean and comfortable with amazing views. Hist was super friendly and helpful. It is about a 10-15 minute walk to the centre of Ella with a few hills, though to be expected in the area!!

Part of the accomodation outside the room is not maintained properly. It does therefore not have a pleasant atmosfere, way to expensive for around 50 dollar

The staff went out of their way to accommodate us in every way. Towels and bedding was fresh and clean which is important to us.

The facilities could do with some maintenance now and then. Our kettle we had to put next to the bed as the table was to low and could not reach the power point.

Staff, location, views, breakfast

The room is basic but has all you need, there is a wide door access directly to the front garden. The upper level rooms have a nice view of the valley. The caretaker was extremely kind, and waited for me when I arrived super late. The owner was also very helpful and available online. The bed was comfortable, and the shower nice and clean. Water pressure was pretty decent too. Location is not too far from town, if you walk along the track. The last stretch is extremely dark at night though, so at night you'll probably need a rickshaw.

There is no window in the room that can be open, as the front wall is a door. No shortage of daylight, but fresh air at night is a problem.

Great rooms! Amazing view! Staff is very friendly! Cooks amazing food! :) You can request him to cook Srilankan special food. Well maintained stay and very serene experience ! Overall it was a peaceful spot!

Biggest complaint is the 6 flights of deep stone steps to get to the rooms. We were out of breath every time and it was a barrier to us wanting to freely leave the room. There’s only breakfast no other food. Rooms are very basic- mosquito nets had holes in them, rough towels no hairdryer. The proprietor was nice but spoke no English. The breakfast is Sri Lankan style and good. Bathroom is very basic and the toilets need to be updated.

Ella Alpine Resort was fantastic stay! We stayed for 4 nights. Amazing views from our room. Huge King Size bed which was very comfortable. Breakfast was fantastic especially the Sri Lankan food made by Indran the manager. Indran was great! Provided us with afternoon tea, assisted with laundry service and transport from Ella. Ella Alpine was responsive to any messages...We are full time travellers and highly recommend Ella Alpine Resort!

Indran is the manager on site and he is so helpful. He would bring us tea in the afternoon, assisted with tuk tuks when it was raining. Laundry service was not working but arranged laundry at a nearby Guesthouse as well as transport via private to Udawalawe National Park. Breakfast was great in the morning and the view spectacular overlooking the valley and Little Adam's Peak. Bed was comfortable. Great recommendations for dinner at Cafe Chill...we ate there at every meal! Bed was comfortable. Definitely recommend.

Fantastic stay here. Room was clean with a stunning view of Little Adam’s Peak. Nice walk via the train tracks to Ella (around a 15 minute walk). Great wifi in the room, hot water, kind staff and the breakfast was the best breakfast we have had in Sri Lanka… Ask for the rotti and dhal curry, AMAZING! Indran, our friendly host, couldn’t have been any better and even arranged a TukTuk for us to go to the train station after our stay. We couldn’t have dreamed of a better accommodation in Ella… Don’t hesitate to book! :)

Amazing view of surrounding hillsides and valley, serene, soft sound of the train adding to the great vibe. We drove up, they have a carpark up on roadside. Indran our host was gracious, I really liked his kindness, great cooking, helpfulness and calming nature. He walked us up to the shortcut so we could walk to nearby waterfall. I loved this place. We ran 4 devices off the WiFi with no problem and enjoyed the hot baths and sitting on the patio drinking tea.

We made a last minute booking on our visit to Ella and we were pleasantly surprised. The view from the room was fantastic and the sounds we were woken up to were the chirping of the birds. We were able to attend our Teams meetings using their WiFi and the speed was fantastic. I will be visiting the property again, next time I come to Sri Lanka.

Fantastic WiFi. Amazing view. Really suitable for what we needed from a remote working perspective. There was desk space for both of us and it is a quiet part of town. It's the best WiFi we've had on our Sri Lankan trip. Even the people who live in Ella complemented the view.

Room wasn't bug proofed. So when there were swarms of flying ants, although they are harmless, they caused discomfort.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Ella Alpine Resort, and it was a delightful experience from start to finish. The rooms are modern and cozy. Wi-Fi is excellent helped me stay connected to my work. The staff is really friendly and helpful.

Beautiful view, staff are very helpful & monkeys very entertaining. Wifi was the perfect speed no glitches. Stairs are a bit fun let's just say you work off all the curry and roti but all in all we loved our stay and will definitely return.

A perfect getaway to enjoy your time-off with a breathtaking view and amazing food. Great ambience and you would definitely appreciate the tranquility in the atmosphere. Easy access to amazing trails and other key destinations was another plus point. We are truly grateful for the assistance given by the manager and staff throughout the stay.
