Glen Nevis Youth Hostel

Located at the foothill of Ben Nevis, this is also the start point of the hike in case you plan to do it. The beds were comfortable & the bathrooms were clean. The kitchen area & the lounge area are big enough to accommodate lot of people.

Fantastic hostel, looks like it was recently renovated, very comfortable bathrooms in separate cabins for privacy, fully equipped kitchen and spacious common area. Overall, I had a great stay, much better than a regular hostel experience:)

It's a hostel, so I didn't expect much, but it was all right. Spacious kitchen with all required utensils, board games, small bar with beers, friendly personel.

Pièce de séchage peut-être pas assez ventilée quand tous les randonneurs y mettent leurs chaussures et affaires mouillées.

La localisation

Le bruit incessant dans les couloirs, des portes qui claquent, des gens qui tapent aux portes en pleine nuit, qui discutent dans les couloirs comme en pleine journée.

The location and the modern facilities - we couldn’t believe just how nice it was. The ‘wee small breakfast’ was simple but lovely. Perfect location for climbing Ben Nevis. The food at the Ben Nevis Inn was fabulous. We enjoyed our stay very much.

The showers had a bit of mold in the corners (nothing extreme) but except for that the bathrooms were great (really one of the best I've seen at a hostel). I would appreciate some lockers in the rooms.

It too over an 40 minutes to book in as our receptionist was so slow. And did not explain everything about the facilities. After a solid day of walking we just wanted to get to our room.

Par contre, nous avons été surprises de l'absence d'interactions entre les voyageurs de différentes nationalités qui y séjournaient. Il y avait tous les styles et tous les âges mais dans la grande cuisine et dans la salle commune, grand silence, aucun échange... étonnant...

It quiet and clean, there was a nice atmosphere. Location was amazing, and easy to park the car. Many hikes around.

Breakfast was very limited and no savoury options.

Ostello pulitissimo e accogliente, sono andata in famiglia e con due bambini e anche per loro è stata una bella esperienza. La possibilità di prenotare la colazione è stato un servizio in più ed era buona ed abbondante.

I hadnt realised the other girls will go to bed at 8.30 so I was ill prepared for my Ben Nevis walk the following day as I hadnt got my things out of my case.

Situado en Glen Nevis, las vistas de la habitación eran espectaculares, hacia la montaña y el río que pasa justo enfrente. Las zonas comunes estaban muy bien diseñadas, y en la cocina había todo lo necesario. El hostal en general estaba limpio, y las camas eran cómodas.

Niente. Non ci sono stata. Mi avete iscritta per errore nel dormitorio maschile e poi mi avete annullato la prenotazione è non mi avete trovato un altro pisto! Non so nemmeno se avrò i soldi (che però vi siete già presi) indietro. Mi palleggiatore tra la struttura e booking! E non si lascia un cliente per strada! Mai più con voi Booking!

Da viele Gäste nur sehr kurz bleiben, fühlen sich nicht immer alle für die Sauberkeit in der Gemeinschaftsküche verantwortlich.

Die Lage ist top, direkt vor dem Ben Nevis und ein sehr gutes Restaurant nebenan!

Wir hatten gebucht für vier Personen mit Hund. Als wir ankamen, hieß es auf einmal, dass der Hund nicht mit rein dürfte. Da wir einen angeblichen Allergikerraum hätten ??Auch hat man uns gleich gesagt, dass das Hostel komplett ausgebucht ist und es nun an uns liegt, was wir machen. Wir wurden praktisch gezwungen, dass unser Hund im Auto schläft. Ich war sehr sauer! Die Hostelseite sagt, dass es haustierfreundlich ist, war es aber nicht. Ich hätte es angeblich explizit angeben müssen, obwohl ich es bei Booking so gesucht habe und es mir angezeigt wurde. Hatte vorher mit so etwas noch nie Probleme! Ja und unser Allergiker Zimmer, ein komplett kaputtes Fenster, was nicht zu schließen ging. Schimmel an den Wänden und im Bad und überall Spinnweben. Alter Müll zwischen Bett und Wand. Überhaupt kein Handtuch ! Uns wurde auch damit gedroht, falls wir den Hund doch mit reinbringen, dass wir dann sofort das Gebäude verlassen müssen! Überhaupt nicht zu empfehlen!!! Wir waren froh, als wir am nächsten Tag das Gebäude so schnell wie möglich verlassen konnten. Beim gehen wurden wir nur gefragt, ob wir auch die Betten abgezogen haben.😂

Große Küche mit der Möglichkeit sich selbst zu verpflegen. Alles da was man braucht. Abends kann man auch die Waschmaschine nutzen. Großer Trockenraum um durchnässte Wanderkleidung zu trocknen. Viele schöne Sitzgelegenheiten, alle mit Ausblick auf die Berge. Vom Hostel führt direkt ein Zuweg zum Wanderweg auf den Ben Nevis. Vor dem Hostel verläuft der River Nevis - auch hier gibt es schöne Wanderwege. Wenn man nicht selber kochen möchte, fußläufig gibt es ein gutes Restaurant (unbedingt vorab reservieren).

Uns (4 Erwachsene) hat es hier gut gefallen.. Das Personal war extrem nett und hat alle unsere Fragen freundlich und kompetent beantwortet. Die Küche ist riesig und hochwertig ausgestattet. Der Speisesaal war groß und sehr schön gestaltet. Es gibt zwei große Kühlschränke und auch Fächer um eigenes Essen zu verstauen. Das Bett war bereits bezogen.

Da es ein (Wander-) Hostel war, war unser Zimmer zu viert doch recht klein. Die Wände und Türen sind hellhörig (oder alle Menschen einfach überdurchschnittlich laut). Jugendherberge im oberen Preissegment.

Très bon emplacement pour partir ou revenir de randonnée. Un bus pour Fort William s'arrête au pied de l'auberge. C'est la deuxième auberge Hostelling Scotland que nous testons et nous avons adoré nos deux expériences. Services pratiques pour les voyageurs (petit-déjeuner et snacks en vente, cuisine bien équipée, machines à laver et salle où faire sécher ses vêtements et ses chaussures de randonnée), espaces communs avec de grandes baies vitrées et des jeux de société.

La struttura è bellissima, in una posizione ottima . Colazione a soli 7 pound buona e comodissima.

Non è colpa della struttura, ma avevamo un gruppo di scout canadesi che ci hanno tenuto svegli fino alle 2 di notte e di nuovo alle 7. Forse le famiglie dovrebbero alloggiare in un piano/ zona un po’ a parte.

Modern gebouw, de familiekamer was groter dan verwacht. Leuke gemeenschappelijke ruimtes, veel douches en toiletten. Zeer goed gelegen aan de voet van de Ben Nevis met vlakbij enkele heel goede restaurants op wandelafstand. Gratis parking. Het was er erg stil. Bij het uitchecken was een jonge man aanwezig die (in tegenstelling tot zijn collega) heel open en vriendelijk was.

Het meisje aan het onthaal deed geen enkele moeite en was op geen enkel ogenblik vriendelijk. Ze leek nog erg jong voor deze functie. Als we een vraag stelden antwoordde ze kort met ja of nee, meer niet. We voelden ons niet meteen welkom. We kregen ook de handdoeken niet bij het inchecken en moesten terug naar het onthaal. 1 Lampje bij een van de bedden werkte niet. De badkamer is heel klein en nergens kan je je handdoeken te drogen hangen wat vervelend is. Het ontbijt is heel beperkt. We hadden beter zelf ons ontbijt klaargemaakt. Telkens was wel iets bijna op, het brood, de koffie, ... en net dan was niemand te zien aan het onthaal. Er is ook geen water, mijn kinderen drinken noch koffie, thee en sap... We hadden het gevoel dat wij een last waren ipv een klant, en dat wij meer "moesten" doen dan het personeel (keukenregels, zelf wasgoed wegbrengen, terwijl keuken echt een rotzooi was en het ontbijt niet aangevuld werd). Mocht ik er werken dan zou ik vele proactiever zijn!

El hostel ofrece lo normal de un alojamiento de este tipo, la atención fue muy buena, el lugar es tranquilo y apto para hacer excursiones por la montaña, pero también para visitar Fort William. La habitación era simple pero funcional. El párquing se llena rápido, pero se puede aparcar cerca.

En general todo estuvo bien.

Me gustó lo cercano a fort William que nos permitió hacer las excursiones y el checking tarde, hasta las 22.00. El parquing gratuito.

Me sorprendió que tuviésemos que desenfundar los edredones y almohadas y bajarlas a recepción, funcionan así y hay que respetarlo. No hay mucho donde cenar allí o cerca . Puedes comprar en el súper y llevarte la comida allí hostel, allí lo etiquetas y lo dejas allí en la nevera para el día siguiente , allí desayunas luego en la sala común.

De locatie was zeer goed en de bedden waren ook dik in orde. Het personeel was daarnaast ook zeer vriendelijk. Enige tip dat ik zou geven aan het hostel is om toch bepaalde afspraken te maken met je kamergenoten. Veel van mijn kamergenoten waren om 4u 's morgens al lawaai aan het maken wat vrij respectloos is. Misschien toch wel aangeven naar bepaalde stilte uren.

Ho apprezzato la cucina comune, grande, ben attrezzata e funzionale, che permette di preparare i pasti senza difficoltà. Anche gli spazi comuni erano ampi e confortevoli, così come la camera, che è risultata comoda durante il soggiorno. Inoltre, la posizione dell'ostello è molto pratica: è un ottimo punto di partenza per fare trekking nei dintorni e rappresenta anche una comoda tappa per chi è diretto verso Edimburgo.

La colazione era piuttosto scarsa e poco varia, con una scelta limitata rispetto ad altri ostelli in cui ho soggiornato. Inoltre, non ho apprezzato il fatto di dover disfare completamente i letti alla partenza e portare personalmente lenzuola e federe negli appositi contenitori della lavanderia. Capisco che possa far parte dell'organizzazione dell'ostello, ma l'ho trovato poco pratico e poco accogliente per gli ospiti. Infine, il personale della reception mi è sembrato piuttosto distaccato: avrei gradito un atteggiamento più cordiale, sorridente e disponibile, che avrebbe reso il soggiorno decisamente più piacevole.

El enclave donde está situado es espectacular. Salir por la puerta y poder empezar una ruta y tanta naturaleza a tus pies. Los lugares comunes eran magníficos. Una gran cocina común con todo lo que pudieras necesitar y todo el mundo muy respetuoso. Luego podías tomar lo que cocinaras en unas mesas muy cómodas y algunas con vistas a la montaña.

La habitación extremadamente pequeña. Además los colchones y almohadas no eran nada cómodos. Estábamos tan cansados que dormimos bien, pero creo que es algo que deberían mejorar.

The staff mentioned that there was a possibility to do my laundry. However, when I came back in the evening, they told me it was already too late. The next morning, they said I would have to wait until 6 p.m., so I ended up having to spend an hour of my own time doing my laundry at a laundromat near the Morrisons store. It cost me €10.

We were held up on the journey and staff member was so helpful when we rang (thanks Olivia). Nice clean and fresh hostel in a great location. Lots of room for relaxing out of the dorm and nice range of snacks and drinks available to buy. Fab kitchen facilities. Great spot for Ben Nevis or the West Highland Way.

Doors are very noisy so woken early by people off for an early start.

Ist halt ein Youth Hostel und ich war dort mit der Familie… mit dem Komfort eines Appartements kann es freilich nicht mithalten, aber das weiß man ja schon vorher. Ärgerlich war, dass die Belüftung der Zimmer nicht gut war: kaum Abluft im Bad und Fenster nur kippbar. Somit konnte keine Luftzirkulation entstehen und die heiße Luft ist gestanden.

Gorgeous location right by the river and beautiful, clean facility with really nice bathrooms and large bunk rooms. I was thankful for a large open window for fresh air. The kitchen is large with everything you'll need. The trail to summit Ben Nevis is right across the road. Perfect!!

Just be prepared with groceries before you come... It's a long walk from town. There is a bus but it is infrequent.

Ideal location as I was climbing Ben Nevis the day after my first night stay - the Hostel is a short walk from the Visitor Centre and start of the hike. Facilities were fine and price reasonable. Staff on duty very helpful.

A beautiful hostel in a beautiful location, fantastic.

Travellers packing or un packing rucksacks at 3.00am, then dragging them all around the floor. (30 minutes or so) A very disturbed nights sleep. We were in the room below. One member of staff showed little sympathy, she said people can snore very loud. Hostels usually have laminate or wooden floors, walking up and down in the middle of the night, packing or in packing on floors creates quite a lot of noise. I have read your response and it is complete wallpaper, we don't accept what you say. My dad/the gentleman and our whole family was awoken at night time by somebody moving their rucksack and dragging it across the floor at 3.00am. [2 different rooms] We understand people leave early, so they need to pack before an early start. Not in the middle of the night! FACT. My dad/gentleman said it did not disturb him much, yet hearing noise for at least 30 minutes kept him and us awake for a period of time. I would describe this as a broken night's sleep or a disturbed nights sleep. Dad complained to me because he did not feel comfortable complaining to you. FACT. You did not hear the whole conversation. Your colleague was quite simply unsympathetic, as you are too, I left a good review. FACT. We enjoyed our stay, we don't regret it. You are a great hostel, but people do not adhere to quiet times which I understand is not under your control. FACT. Strange you did not hear your colleague mention the loud snorers, I have no problem with this, happy that lovely people get a good nights sleep. Dragging rucksacks across floors cannot be compared to snoring There are noise issues which you do not hear, you do not like comments about noise, you do not like us to say there was a problem. We booked with booking.com, we are asked to leave an honest review. if you look at my other reviews they are fair, complimentary and help other bookers. We have been honest about our experience. We wish you the very best of luck, it is a wonderful hostel with noise issues.

Comfortable, clean, friendly staff

Paid for breakfast and then there wasn’t any in the morning. No one at reception at that moment. Sadly we were in a rush and had to leave. But we got in contact and they offered a refund.

A fab hostel in a great location. Great size dorm, plenty of space. Good touch with the electrical points and bed light next to each bunk. Like the private shower pods too. Great kitchen and communal sitting areas. Just wish I had more time there to enjoy it.

The place is located great and has some nice continental breakfast. The place feels well organized and clean. As a place close to hiking spots I really appreciated the drying room.

The main reason for my rating being a 6 and not an 8 is mainly because of the interaction with one of the workers who got a bit upset and trying to make me pay 50 pence as they had made an error with the ordering of the packed lunch the night before. It is quite a small thing both as a topic and the issue itself but also why it bothered me quite a bit with the attitude. In the end they at least said forget about it as I didn't have 50 pence on me. Lacking of lockers.

Sehr hellhörig! Wir hatten ein Zimmer im Erdgeschoss und selbst normales Gehen im Obergeschoss wirkte, als ob jemand durch die Decke bricht. So war erst 23 Uhr Ruhe und 5 Uhr wach wegen der ersten Nevis-Wanderer. Die Dusche war sehr schimmlig, eklig, der Boden bei Ankunft nicht sauber.
