The property is a historic masterpiece crafted into the hillside and immaculately taken care of. The staff is top notch and made me feel right at home.

There is nothing I did not like about the property

Everything was perfect, and the place exceeded our expectations. Bernardo and the entire staff were incredibly warm and friendly. The view is breathtaking—we could have spent the whole day just looking at it.

This guest house of 8 rooms was absolutely incredible. The delightful staff, perfectly quaint rooms and outstanding view provided us with a peaceful and intimate experience! We would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone wanting a similar experience.

Tight streets getting our rental car there but Paulo, our host, parked our car for us as there isn’t a ton of parking by the inn.

What a great place! Fantastic views, very friendly and helpful staff, nice pool and great food (also for vegetarians). This is also a great place to start very lovely walks through the Douro valley.

Wát een prachtige accommodatie en uitzicht! Super netjes, prima kamer en nog geeneens gesproken over de gastvrijheid. Bernardo was echt een top-host, vriendelijkheid en gastvrijheid ten top.

Sehr freundliche und aufmerksame Gastgeber. wunderbar renoviertes historisches Gebäude, ruhige Lage mit fantastischem Blick auf den Douro. Das Abendessen ist sehr zu empfehlen: man speist gemeinsam mit anderen Gästen, bekommt frisch zubereitete portugiesische Gerichte und wir wurden sehr charmant und humorvoll von Daniel bedient.

we loved the location but most of all we appreciated the personal hospitality of our hosts and we adored the communal family dinner table and due to that we made amazing connections with other travellers one which we believe will last for years. thank you again for the wonderful experience of picking grapes and Daniel and Paulo.

Bernardo made it such a great stay.

We loved the location with views over the valley, the house itself was charming, the pool great for a swim and to relax alongside. The room was well appointed and comfortable. We really enjoyed the communal ‘family style’ meals both nights giving us a chance to meet guests from other countries - lots of laughs. The food was excellent and Bernardo and Paulo were very knowledgeable about the wines/port they served. Most of all it was the warm, welcoming and attentive care shown by Bernardo and his team that elevated this stay into throughly enjoyable and special one. We would love to come back.

Staff were so attentive and informative. Keen to offer help and advice with anything and they are clearly proud of their place. The location provides quite stunning views with plenty of seating to enjoy them with. The 'family' set up of guests eating together was something a little different but really good to meet people from around the world over wonderful home cooked food

Lack of Tea/Coffee making facilities in the bedroom would be my only suggestion to improve the experience

Beautiful property and lovely home that has been in the family for many generations. The view is spectacular, the pool refreshing and the food exceptional. Bernardo, the owner, very personable and helpful. Wonderful staff.

The view was extraordinary and Daniel and Bernardo are the sweetest people. The two of them truly made our trip unforgettable, it felt like staying at a friends house. Bernardo is an outstanding host, and the whole team is very open, helpful, and friendly. They are always ready to give useful tips and make your stay as carefree as possible. Also the dinner with the other guests was very nice and we met a lot of beautiful people.

Les places de parking devant pas assez nombreuses, mais nous avons été aidés pour porter les valises. Le prix du repas pris sur place assez cher mais pratique pour le premier soir.

Bernardo und sein Team sind so freundlich! Sie haben ein kleines Paradies geschaffen, in dem Entschleunigung bei traumhaftem Ausblick ein Leichtes ist. Die Bilder der Unterkunft spiegeln genau das wider, was man bekommt. Die ganze Anlage ist wunderschön. Beim gemeinsamen Abendessen kommt man mit anderen Gästen ins Gespräch. Wirklich zauberhaft! Klare Empfehlung! Für den Abend einen Pulli einpacken. :-)

Die Zufahrtsstraße war für mich mit Höhenangst etwas schwierig. Musste aber nur einmal überwunden werden, weil wir den Rest der Zeit dort bleiben wollten.

De locatie was geweldig! Wat een uitzicht. Ook de medewerkers waren ontzettend attent en stonden voortdurend voor je klaar. Ook was er ruimte voor een grapje. Het zwembad en de ligbedden zijn fantastisch. Je kan een drankje en hapje bestellen en in de avond aanschuiven bij een gezamenlijk authentiek diner (van te voren reserveren).

Niks viel tegen! Wat het slaapcomfort nog beter kan maken is een airco in plaats van een chiller.

Without doubt this is one of the best places I've stayed - I just wish we'd booked for longer. Bernado and his team couldn't be more helpful, friendly and accommodating. The family style dining on the terrace, meeting other guests from all over the world, and watching the sun go down behind the mountains is a joy. Our room was spotless, well designed, and the bed was huge and very comfortable. I very much hope that we will be back.

We had the most incredible 2 night stay at Casa De Casal De Loivos for my boyfriend's birthday. The room was very comfortable, spacious and quiet. The family style dinner was good fun, and delicious food and wine, and lots of choice for breakfast. We loved sitting by the pool and admiring the views, the views are utterly incredible. Bernardo and his team were so hospitable, friendly and made my boyfriend's birthday very special. Bernardo was extremely helpful with arranging taxis for us to get down to the station/restaurants/wine tour. We look forward to coming to stay again.

Het prachtige uitzicht! De rust, erg relaxte omgeving. Het heerlijke zwembad, met veel ligbedjes eromheen en overal plekjes om te zitten, ook in de schaduw. Het heerlijke diner met wel 4 gangen in de avond met andere gasten, erg gezellig en ook fantastische bediening. Vriendelijk personeel, fantastische gastheer Bernardo. Gaf veel tips en behulpzaam We hadden een heerlijke kamer, waar veel schaduw was. Fijn dat je ook hapjes, drankjes lunch kon bestellen. Tip; bezoek Amarante en Solar Palace Mateus, bij Vila Real En wandel naar beneden naar Pinhao en taxi terug omhoog.

Het smalle straatje vlakbij en lastig parkeren daardoor.. Maar het is daar niet druk, qua auto verkeer. De krakende vloeren in de slaapkamer, maar ach als dat alles is....

Absolutely stunning location, beautiful building set in its own vineyard, incredibly friendly and hospitable staff, wonderful breakfasts and evening meals served in exceptional surroundings. Bernardo and his team are simply the best, they pull out all the stops to welcome you and ensure you have a wonderful stay.

Only drawback was there was no air conditioning. No window to open except outside terrace door. We had to sleep with terrace door open. Other than that….it was perfect.

Cet établissement est un lieu exceptionnel pour la vue évidemment mais surtout pour le service du personnel qui est au delà de nos attentes! Les soupers sur le terrasse étaient tout à fait extraordinaire avec le couché de soleil! Que dire de la piscine aussi! Merci pour ce séjour que nous garderons dans nos souvenirs à jamais!

My trip was too short!

De ligging, het uitzicht, het personeel, het eten met elkaar en de port-gin! Het zwembad is fantastisch en de kamers liggen geweldig . Het personeel probeert je echt in de watten te leggen.

Het ontbijt is eenvoudig maar prima, als je iets extra’s wil zoals ei , moet je dat apart vragen. Altijd aanbellen om binnen te komen voelt niet heel “vrij” en parkeren is wel een dingetje.

Die Lage ist einfach traumhaft. Bernado (Besitzer) als auch Daniel (Faktotum u. Kellner) waren tolle Gastgeber. Das abends auf der Terrasse servierte Essen war köstlich. Für das als zu klein reklamierte Zimmer wurde uns ein Abendessen (84€) gutgeschrieben. Der Pool war groß und fast wie ein Infinity-Pool angelegt.

Das zugewiesene Zimmer 6 war eine Zumutung. Klein und nur über eine Treppe zu erreichen. Alle anderen Zimmer gingen sofort zur Terrasse raus. Unsere beiden Koffer (70er) konnten nur gestapelt im Zimmer untergebracht werden.

Die Lage war absolut außergewöhnlich, es könnte keine bessere Aussicht auf das Dourotal geben. Es gibt eine wunderschöne Terrasse und einen darunter gelegenen Poolbereich. Es gibt nur 8 Zimmer, wer vorbestellt, was fast alle tun, bekommt auf der Terrasse ein sehr gutes Dinner serviert, für alle Gäste gemeinsam. Das Frühstück war ebenfalls ausgezeichnet, der Gastgeber enorm bemüht und fürsorglich.

Es gibt nichts zu verbessern

Ein sehr schönes Hotel mit einer wunderschönen Aussicht auf das Douro Tal. Sehr persönlich und liebevoll geführt. Wir kommen sicher wieder!

Food generally excellent at dinner, but fish pie was not as good

Alles was perfect! De locatie met een ontzettend mooi uitzicht. De ontvangst met een glimlach, de vriendelijke bediening. De kamer was mooi en schoon, hele goede bedden. Het eten was voortreffelijk.

The estate was stunning…only outdone by the views which were breathtaking! Daniel & Paolo welcomed us with wine & olives on the terrace & with warm hospitality. Our rooms were beautiful with every amenity we needed. Beds & linens were crisp & clean & SO comfortable. Our stay included breakfast ..family style…in the most charming dining room which also had views of the valley.

The drive up to the estate was winding with narrow roads. Unavoidable when climbing the mountains but a tiny bit nerve wracking for my taste lol. However I would do it again to stay at this magical estate.

Parking

We took the train from Porto along the Douro valley to Pinhao where we were met by the taxi organised for us by the very efficient Bernardo at the Casa . The scenery is stunning along the way, we arrived and were greeted by the wonderful host, shown around and then to our room. There was the 'how did we get here moment' when you walked onto the vast terrace and looked at the elevated view over the Douro valley and river - just breath taking. The terrace has tables and chairs to sit and take in the views which are vast. There is a lower terrace with a pool, sunbeds, table and chairs. All very tastefully set out. The view from this Casa is incredible, certainly one to remember. Our bedroom was large and well fitted, fresh filtered water and lots of hanging space in the wardrobe. We ate a lovely meal at the property both nights sitting at a dining table with all the other guests. The staff were incredibly attentive and friendly. We did a circular 5km walk from here which we will remember for the outstanding views. If you are thinking of going to the Douro Valley this is the place to stay! Highly recommended (it was recommended to us)!

An amazing hotel experience to mark the last night of our 6 day hiking holiday organised by Portugal Green walks. Beautiful, comfortable, friendly with lovely home-cooked food serving local wine and port. Recommend the tapas and wine tasting at Quinta Do Jalloto just down the road too. Would love to stay again

One of the most incredible views from a hotel! The service was excellent - staff went above and beyond to ensure we were looked after (even collecting us from the train station when we were struggling to find a taxi.) The pool is gorgeous and would certainly recommend the evening meal for at least one night of your stay - a very memorable experience with an exceptional view and lovely food.

If coming by train, make sure to pre-book a taxi in advance.

The breakfast was lovely with excellent service. I would describe it as an expanded "Continental breakfast," but was more than sufficient. The location was amazing. I selected it because the BBC chose this location to film a documentary of the Douro wine region. The views were breathtaking. From the patio or the pool, you could sip a glass of wine and look out over the entire valley. Our host, Bernardo, was elegant and made us feel as though we were the only ones at the lodge; truly a five star experience. The entire staff was so delightful and always available when needed.

I really cannot think of anything I did not like about this place.

Casa De Casal De Loivos is a very special place. Bernardo was the perfect host and beautifully explained the rich family history of the property. The views over the Douro Valley were stunning and we really enjoyed the delicious three course evening meal served in the lovely dining room with other guests.

Könnten wir mehr als 10 Punkte vergeben, wir würden es tun. Es handelt sich bei der Casa um ein kleines Anwesen, welches gepflegt bis in den letzten Winkel ist. Sehr geschmackvoll , Wohlfühlathmosphäre pur. Dazu tragen das Personal bzw. die Besitzer insbesondere bei. Sehr hilfsbereit und aufmerksam, herzliches Willkommen, bei Bedarf wird man mit guten Tipps versorgt und sogar die Reservierungen vorgenommen. Die Zimmer sind klein, aber es gibt ja noch ein großes gemütliches Wohnzimmer für alle. Das liebevolle Frühstück und auch das Abendessen werden gemeinsam an einem großen Tisch im Esszimmer eingenommen, so dass man mit anderen Gästen ins Gespräch kommen kann. Bei besserem Wetter hätten wir gern auch die tolle Terrasse, den Poolbereich und den kleinen Weinberg - alles mit grandioser Aussicht - für länger genossen. Bei der Weiterreise waren wir traurig, dass schöne Anwesen zu verlassen.

Lock on bedroom door very quirky

A beautifully presented, boutique style hotel with the most stunning views. Our bedroom was large, modern, the bed so comfortable, filtered water in the room, a welcome drink on arrival and a very warm, friendly welcome from the owner. We stayed two nights b/b and chose to eat both evenings (at extra cost) at Casa De Casal De Loivos, a four course meal, served (silver service ) to the guests who all sit at a long table together - breakfast is a similar experience with guests arriving at breakfast served between 8.00 / 10.00 am. There is a large terrace with tables, seats and sofas, also a lower terrace with a pool, sun loungers and umbrellas. We arrived by train from Porto, a very picturesque journey and had a taxi up to the Casa which was organised for us by the Casa. This is a very memorable experience and one I would thoroughly recommend!

Amazing views of the river and Pinhao. Comfortable rooms with great accessibility to the very quiet outdoor area over-looking the pool and river. I had not appreciated just how far by taxi the property was from the center of Pinhao. To walk from the train station or nearby was impractical unless you were used to hard walks of more than an hour.
