The room was fine, very comfortable beds, enough space to put away things etc. The hotel has a very good gym and a huge pool for real swimming, please be aware that you need to bring a swimming cap or buy their extremely overpriced one. The staff generally speaks good English so communication was fine. Location wise it's perfect, a super good mall right next to it with lots of options for eating, and easy for cabs to drive anywhere.

Breakfast in Chinese 5 star hotels is generally overpriced, so we always go out for breakfast, or order room service breakfast à la carte. This hotel did not offer this option, but luckily there is a very good mall right next to it, with lots of good options. While the room was generally very comfortable, with a great bed, a big shower and a a tub, note that it's a "no privacy bathroom" room. In this case, only a mirror separating the sleeping area from the basin/toilet area, meaning that going to the loo in the middle of the night will wake up your partner (somewhat noisy Japanese style automated).

We enjoyed our stay at The Sukhothai Shanghai. The hotel is stylish, modern and very comfortable, with beautifully designed rooms and a high standard of cleanliness. The pool was spacious enough to actually swim proper laps, which was greati. The location is also very convenient, right next to a large shopping mall and the impressive Starbucks Reserve Roastery. Overall, a very comfortable and stylish hotel in a great location. We would happily stay here again.

Services were very poor: no basic amenities like sewing kit to hem trousers or nail file. Laundry was proposed every day but quality was poor they returned my shirt back unmaintened. Room maintained poorly: floor is dirty, lots of dust everywhere. Reception was unhelpful: I faced an issue with my flight and they sent me to solve it on my own knowing that airline was Chinese and not providing any assistance in English. I asked to extend stay because of the weather and they did, but they forgot to extend my keys. But they charged me for two b/w printed pages for 7 rmd, I never faced it before. All that small details spoiled all impressions of our stay.

We had an amazing stay at The Sukhothai Shanghai and would happily return on our next visit. Every member of the staff was warm, professional, and genuinely welcoming. The Michelin-starred restaurant on the first floor was absolutely incredible—one of the best meals we had in Shanghai—and it deserves even more recognition. The breakfast was also excellent, with a wide variety of high-quality dishes. Our only small suggestion would be to let in a little more natural light during breakfast by opening the curtains. As we were traveling with a young child, we also felt the first-floor lobby was slightly too dim at times. Finally, the turndown service was exceptional and made us feel truly cared for. Thank you for such a memorable and relaxing stay!

Be warned if traveling with children. We booked a room for 3 guests — a married couple and our 12-year-old daughter — and the reservation clearly reflected all 3 guests from the start. Upon arrival, the hotel refused to provide a rollaway bed or any additional sleeping arrangement unless we paid an additional $500 USD — on top of our $350/night rate. Every other hotel we have stayed at in China accommodated this request at no charge. We escalated to front desk, called down, and had our travel provider call on our behalf. The hotel would not budge. For a property that markets itself on personalized luxury service, this was a significant disappointment and frankly a misrepresentation of what a 3-guest booking implies. Families should be aware before booking.

Realised I left my phone in restaurant at 5am! Front desk “Jason” was extremely helpful. Called the restaurant, called a cab and even lent me ¥100 personally… I found my phone in the morning. Everyone at the Frontdesk was attentive and wonderful.

First all, you can’t take a hot shower without triggering the fire alarm. Therefore, my wife and I had to take cold showers the entire stay…. Also, was denied upgrades as a diamond member while other diamond member check in the same time got their upgrades. They stated oh you don’t have to wait for the standard room… felt a bit racially profiled. We did not have much interaction with the staffs afterward.

This is a customer oriented hotel and the best service provider. Rooms are very comfortable and clean, staffers are extremely friendly and helpful, and the management is making sure that each and every services are satisfied. This is the best money can buy 5 star hotel! Thanks for your best service!

The rooms and amenities and the hotel are excellent quality. The daily breakfast is delicious, and all staff are courteous and professional. Unfortunately our stay was not a fully positive experience due to being given incorrect information at check in. We were told (multiple times) during check in that laundry, among other things, was included in our package. This is not a service we totally use but since it was included, we sent a bag to be washed after a few days stay. At check out we were charged hundreds of dollars for the laundry and offered no apology for the mix up. I don’t think the check out agents even believed us that we had been told it was included, so we left feeling gaslit on top of being overcharged. So far, we have yet to receive any apology or even acknowledgement from the hotel. I would normally read a review like this and assume the person writing it has misheard, but my companion and I both remember the conversation clearly and I encourage the hotel to check security footage from the desk if they have it. This one piece of misinformation was a very expensive mistake, and though the mistake was theirs, the consequence is on us.

Entrance to the hotel is not perfect to access, a bit hidden. Not enough water in the gym when there are several people. Dispenser is very slow and small.

I had a frustrating experience during my stay at the hotel. One night, I was waiting at the front desk for the staff to assist me. However, they were preoccupied with their tasks for over five minutes and didn't acknowledge my presence. It wasn't until another customer arrived that the staff finally attended to them, even though I had been waiting longer. Eventually, I had to approach the staff myself to request service, which felt quite frustrating. I understand that they might have been busy, but it seemed as if they simply didn't notice that I was waiting. Additionally, I was unhappy with how the hotel charged a deposit to my credit card on the day of my check-in without any prior notification. I was unaware that it was a deposit and initially thought my credit card had been stolen or hacked. I almost called the bank to block my card due to this unexpected charge. Both of these issues strike me as unprofessional. Even when I raised my concerns with the staff, their attitude suggested that they didn't take it seriously. This level of service does not warrant a good rating. On a positive note, the other aspects of my stay were satisfactory, but I did notice that the hallways were consistently hot, which was uncomfortable.

Great location, great food, and room was awesome! Huge shower was great after a swim. Perfect place for a Shanghai staycation. My son's favorite restaurant is close by and we really enjoyed the holiday downtown.

Overall, I was generally satisfied with the facilities and experience provided by the hotel. The customer service prior to my arrival was fantastic, and the staff were extremely helpful with restaurant bookings and arranging bike hire. I truly appreciate their assistance and hospitality. The hotel’s location is excellent, and the wellness facilities, including the steam room, sauna, and swimming pool, were a great addition to the stay.

What I did not like about the hotel was that some facilities and services did not meet the expectations of a 5-star experience. The steam room was out of order during my stay, and there were no staff available in the changing room to assist guests. The towel area was also difficult to locate due to the dim lighting. In addition, the coffee and tea machine at breakfast was out of service for all three days, and the beverage selection after dinner was quite limited, with many menu items unavailable. I was also disappointed that the reception staff could not provide a proper running track map despite it being promoted on the hotel website, which felt unprofessional.

The location was peaceful while being central. Our room was on the higher floor. The bed was very comfortable, the shower and bed were great. We enjoyed having a coffee in the room before partaking into the wonderful breakfast.

The mall also has a supermarket; - breakfast is not bad. Adequate. - Service is attentive. - sleep quality is very good. Bed is comfortable. - the curtain is electronic; - the table in the room is big enough so you can do work on it (for business travelers). Con: - WIFI is slow. Although we found that in a lot of places in China, the wifi is slow. - the lift can be a bit slow sometimes. - when comparing to the bangkok sister property, we find that the bkk sukhothai is slightly higher standards in terms of food and facility (but we prefer the the room in Shanghai). Neutral: - the hotel has like a minimalist vibe and was quite dark in the lobby and restaurant. The vibe feels like a design Hotel.

Great hotel and fantastic location among the Shanghai city. It’s connected with the mall and it’s very convenient to buy everything.

I love the Sukhothai vibe - a beautiful sense of Asian modern minimalism with extraordinary five-star pool, sauna and wellness services. The spacious rooms are beautifully appointed with chic soft furnishings, generous layout, desk and seating areas, generous wardrobe space and storage (hallelujah) wonderful bathrooms with separate WC, deep soaking tub and luxurious oversized shower. Housekeeping services are top notch with traditional tea at turndown and the concierge experience was above and beyond. The spa has dyson hairdryers and other amenities so you can dress up after a session in the steam room. We slept so well here and enjoyed the brilliant porte cochere access for all our sightseeing and adventures in the city and the deluxe shopping precinct for fresh juices, excellent coffee and all the designers (if you are into that) are on your doorstep. The clientele here is very international and uber cool - the lobby is a united nations of interesting global travellers and super stylish locals. Such a great hotel brand!

Top class hotel, well located in Shanghai. Lovely large rooms, well finished. The Executive King rooms have the most enormous beds!

As a Titanium member, I arrived at approximately 5:00 PM, only to be told that my room was not yet ready. Despite having already completed check-in, I was asked to wait over twenty minutes. There was no warm welcome, and the front desk did not offer an apology initially. I was directed to wait in the lobby, but the seating area was extremely limited and already occupied by several other guests. Traveling alone with two young children, I received no assistance or acknowledgment from the hotel regarding a more suitable place to wait. It was only after I suggested the bar area that we were able to sit somewhat comfortably—on the outdoor terrace. To the hotel’s credit, the room itself was quite nice and clean. The more disappointing experience occurred the following morning, when I went to the reception desk to add breakfast and kindly request a late checkout—a published benefit for Titanium members. Without any attempt to accommodate, the receptionist immediately declined. He then called his manager, and while speaking on the phone, he began laughing and chuckling as he explained to the manager that “this guest” was requesting a late checkout. He may have assumed I did not understand Mandarin, but I understood enough to recognize the lack of professionalism. I calmly reminded him that as a Titanium member, I was hoping the hotel would at least make an effort to accommodate my family’s needs. Only after I raised my voice—prompted by his dismissive and mocking tone—did the situation change. I pointed out that it was unprofessional and disrespectful to laugh at a guest’s reasonable request, especially given that I had already waited past 5:00 PM for my room the previous evening. Only then did another receptionist step in and offer a 3:00 PM late checkout. To add to the frustration, my room key stopped working by 2:00 PM. For a five-star property, and especially as a first-time guest at this brand, I expected a vastly different standard of service—one that reflects genuine care, professionalism, and respect for loyalty members. Unfortunately, my experience fell far short of that expectation.

We had a wonderful day. There was mixed of a business day and family day. The hotel met both requirements. Breakfast is a little short, but more than sufficient. The location is perfect to get to sightseeing places as well as exploring the city and shopping malls.

The rooms are pretty small and quite a letdown after moving from identically priced rooms at the fabulous Waldorf Astoria on the Bund. Everything in the hotel seems to have a grey motif and all the signage is very hard to see. Some of the doors are pocketed and you wouldn’t know they are there until you get cold getting out of the shower and feel desperate. From over function seems to be the rule. Very austere and Presbyterian. The breakfast is good enough but isn’t elaborate. If they run out of something, just ask the staff. The staff in general are very friendly and accommodating. I can’t say the same about the manager at the check in desk who seems imperious and contemptuous of guests, even Lifetime Hilton Diamond VIPs. I didn’t like his treatment of the staff. The hotel is in a really great area and the accessibility to the adjacent mall and thereby to the metro was a real convenience. The lobby bar is fabulous but it doesn’t seem to be used. We had to go to the very small Zuk bar which had great staff. The gym was very well equipped and fun to use.

What a delightful stay! From the moment we arrived, the attentive doorman set a welcoming tone, followed by a wonderfully smooth check-in. My room was spacious and thoughtfully designed—so user-friendly. I must compliment the property's signature aroma; it’s a fantastic, sensory touch that creates such a pleasant atmosphere throughout. The environmental ethos here is also strong and much appreciated. Breakfast was a real highlight with its great variety of choices, and the restaurant staff’s warm greetings made every meal start happily. While the live station chef could be a bit more proactive in engaging, the room service order taker was, on the other hand, extremely courteous. Our only tiny suggestion for an already great experience would be to consider upgrading the in-room device chargers. We truly enjoyed our time and can’t wait to return

미니바는 와인을 제외하고 간단한 스낵과 음료는 모두 무료로 제공하면 어떨까하는 아쉬움이 있네요.

We had a very pleasant stay at the Sukhothai hotel. The hotel itself is very modern and the materials used are of high quality. We were upgraded to the loft suites (top floor) and the room and especially the bathroom was incredible. Also the breakfast was great and offered a broad variation of different cuisines.

When we had some issues with a few rooms the staff and duty managers were all incredibly friendly and helpful. They were very quick and did their best to apologise, fix things and find solutions, which goes a long way! The interior design is beautiful curated throughout the hotel. The standard rooms are actually the nicest in my opinion. Bath tubs in some of the rooms are lovely. The location is fantastic, and as many have said, the connection to the nearby luxury mall is a nice touch. The value for money feels fairly good (certainly compared to an equivalent hotel in the UK) though prices are a lot higher by Shanghai averages. In spite of other reviews, I found all the staff's English to be very good, from the bell boys to the managers (and significantly better than my Chinese)

Encountered a few rooms which were hot and stuffy, but from changing rooms so often could see that this was not the case for all, so seems like pot luck. The air con systems have some issues room by room. Our first would randomly turn itself up from lowest (and quietest) fan speed to full power during the night, repeatedly waking me up with the noise. I also had to turn the temp down to lower than necessary (16-18°) to feel like it was actually making a difference, but in other rooms setting to the standard 22° they keep it at was fine. To the hotel's credit, they sent a manager and an engineer almost immediately to try to fix it, before moving us to another room for the night. If your room is near a lift, you can hear it beep as it arrives to the floor from your room, same with neighbours using their key cards. You can't hear the outside world, but internal soundproofing could use improvement. A small nitpick is also that the fire alarms have a blinking green light, and many of them are situated directly above the beds, a small detail but just doesn't feel well thought out compared to everything else in the room designs. The breakfast price is high, but seems good quality, however you can find equally tasty and better value at the mall opposite too. The last issue, is that Booking.com states this place has a hot tub, it does not, info needs amending.
