Breakfast was lovely and staff were friendly. Plenty of choice for breakfast. The bar staff were friendly and helpful, the hotel is in an easy position to be able to walk into Chester town centre.
Location, atmosphere and helpful staff
Nothing
What a great place! All staff without exception were fantastic, particularly Hayley who was really helpful and Joe who according to my husband pulled a great pint! Breakfast was lovely, and really nice reasonably priced menu and wines. Thank you so much
Nothing
Lovely place, nice situation from the town. Food lovely and bar/restaurant well kept.
Took a while to grab somebody's attention in reception in the morning, waited around 15 minutes, had to go looking for staff.
Good location, excellent price, friendly staff, good shower, late bar
Maybe just personal preference, but I found the bed very soft. Possibly short staffed or let down on Sunday morning but no receptionist till after 9 o’clock, friendly waitress helped us out instead until the very helpful person joined reception.
We stayed here for one night and had a fantastic experience. The place was extremely clean, comfortable, and made for a super relaxing night's sleep. The staff was friendly and welcoming from the moment we walked in. Great amenities, free parking, and the location right off the highway made getting in and out of the city totally hassle-free. Highly recommend!
Fantastic location, clean and good value.
Great location Friendly, helpful staff Good breakfast options
A little tired
Breakfast was great. Parking was easy. Staff was very welcomimg.
Old property but with a distinctive modern feel.
Everything was good. Parking excellent and located close to where we needed to be .
Extremely helpful staff, we had to ask two favours during our stay and the staff went out of their way to help us. Only 10 min walk from the station.
Bit noisy from the bar underneath the hotel, and would be nice if there were privacy net curtains, but these are tiny points
Really friendly staff, clean room, lovely breakfast. My poached egg was perfect. The bed was comfortable. I thought the noise from the bar might disrupt me but it wasn't a problem at all.
The bathroom is a little tired but that's expected at this price point. It's still great value.
Lovely staff. Good food. On site parking.
Bathroom a bit tired, room small.
It was nice and quiet.,Nice 15min walk to centre of Chester along canal. Great breakfast .Nice room. What more can you ask for 😉
Very comfortable. Excellent location. Friendly staff
The location was great just a small walk to the centre of Chester lovely beer garden on the front.and plenty of food for breakfast. Staff was really nice and friendly. I would be staying there again.cant really complain about it.and plenty off parking at the back of the guest house.
Nothing really.just stayed for the one night.so was out most of the time.had keys to let ourselves in.
The staff were brilliant excellent location
Nothing
Unpretentious . Comfortable . Friendly helpful staff. Opposite Faulkner Street with its lovely little shops , cafes and restaurants . Particularly like Poco .
Every thing was good Warm welcome All staff cheerful and helpful Perfect location and parking on site or very nearby a plus
Nothing to dislike
They supplied ear plugs, but we did not need them. Found the area and facility quiet and close enough to walk to the central tourist area. Great breakfast which was a bonus as we didn't realise was included. Very friendly staff and would stay there again if in the area.
Nice room and had parking on site
Noisy at night and the meal made me sick
Chester center is in walking distance, breakfast was good, in case the pub is available at the location.
The carpet was stinky, the overall cleanliness feeling was missing, but it was acceptable. Due to the pub part the extra noise and lights can be disturbing, especially at night.
Good location. Helpful friendly staff. Good food. On site parking.
Lovely place to stay,, 3 females in a room,, lovely room & spacious,, very clean,, staff very friendly helpful & nothing too much trouble,, breakfast very nice
Nice and friendly
A bit noisy
Good location, parking on premises
Small room, very noisy from the bar garden below, cigarette smoke from the bar garden below.
Friendly atmosphere
It’s in an ideal location, lots of shops and restaurants near by. Rooms are clean and comfortable.
As a a person suffering with rheumatoid arthritis the amount of stairs on the property does affect me but my partner is always with me to help me get about
The friendly service and clean comfortable room.
Wasn't anything we didnt like
Great location and staff were great, food is lovely too
Just an old property but nothing bad
Enjoyed the breakfast and it’s a nice place
Early check-in, proximity to the motorway and also Chester centre and free breakfast!
Nothing, fans in the room provided comfort from hot August summer months.
Great breakfast included in the rate. Meals superb. Staff wonderful when my wife overcome by heat (it was in one of the heatwaves).
Mould in ghe shower.
Everything was perfect from the welcome to the food. All the staff were super friendly and helpful.
Absolutely nothing to dislike
Thr room was very comfy, had all the amenities I needed, and was well sound proofed. The food in the restaurant was delicious and I was very appreciative to find a cooked breakfast was included in the bill. All the staff were friendly and helpful, and the place itself was really beautiful with a great outdoor relaxing area. It was also very conveniently located next to some shops and eateries.
Nothing to complain about, had everything I needed!
staff very helpful and friendly food was good and great location
L'accueil, la situation favorable pres de la ville de Chester, de la gare et du quartier de Hoole, la chambre confortable et la salle de bain bien équipée.
Le bruit de circulation. Bawn Lodge est située sur une route passante.
Maybe repeat back the breakfast order. Asked for salmon with my eggs Benedict but got ham
Clean friendly couldn't do enough for us
Friendly, and sociable hotel. Great to have bar and food on site. Fabulous location. Rooms clean and comfy, good size and nice bathrooms with shower.
This is subjective but matress was very hard and pillows lumpy and too firm. Feel car park should have a permit system so occupants can get a space.
The property is well positioned, close to Chester City, and within a short walk to a variety of shops, pubs and restaurants. Breakfast was good
I was so disappointed, this was my fifth stay at this property and unfortunately my last. This time it looked and felt scruffy and unclean. I had to ask for a change of pillows, the shower had black mould and the carpet leading to the room smelt musky.
Excellent location, friendly and reliable bar staff, excellent evening meals, good parking spots. Pleasant airy room with good decor and kept tidy by cleaner.
Breakfast person a little dour, only had scrambled egg on half a slice of toast which was lukewarm. One cleaning lady dour, another very pleasant. Skirting boards poorly painted and some bar upholstered seating very tatty.
Stayed here mid week for an overnight in Chester. Just needed and bed and booked for it’s location being so close to Chester, just over the bridge. Check in was smooth, room was super clean and comfortable. Large car park and great location. Such good value for money.
Leuk cafe/pub beneden en goede parkeer mogelijkheden. Goede bedden en schoon. 20 minuten lopen van het centrum.
De badkamer had wat achterstallig onderhoud.
Comfortable room. Good Location. Staff helpful.

Posizione comoda per raggiungere il centro a piedi con una breve passeggiata. Parcheggio in loco. Colazione buona ed abbondante. Possibilità di fare anche la cena
Good location for Chester races. Friendly staff. Parking
Bed was not comfortable.
Nice all round, room was large and all staff well organised and very polite
Property was great. Parking was a problem but managed to get a spot in the end
Staff bar location
A bit noisy from our room but only midnight till 1 ish and 7am moving tables ??? very noisy but a great stay
Lovely food good portions reasonable price . Friendly staff. Great place
Food generally good, room and shower room clean and well equipped.
The hotel is very noisy in the evenings with the bar open until midnight on Friday and Saturday. I left a bathrobe in my room; no-one contacted me, nor have they replied to my email asking them to donate it to charity. The main problem is that this hotel never answers their phone and has no ansaphone; you should be able to phone the place wher you are staying.
We have stopped here 4 or 5 times now it's a lovely hotel.
The hotel is very charming as much as the staff which were very friendly and helpfull
Clean, comfortable, great bar, great restaurant & lovely staff
Great location, suited my requirements. Parking
Friendly helpful staff, great location. Excellent facilities in the room. Amazing value for money food. On site parking
We were very happy with our stay, just rooms were warm but not hotels fault it was a heat wave
A little gem in walking distance from the city centre. The breakfast was good and the evening meals where ample, and the service from the staff members was also good.
The only thing that was a challenge was the noise coming from the bar area with chat external doors banging etc upto 11pm and beyond. Ear plugs where provided which was a help, but could still hear the noise.
Location. Good choice of tea coffee etc facility with small fridge. Good size room. Large fan.
Needs a net or similar for privacy as facing main road. Duvet and pillows not so good, old n lumpy. . Matress needs new. Carpet could do with a clean. Bathroom ok but again some tlc around shower required and toilet flush naff. No hand soap. !
Nothing
The room was too small and hot bathroom too small sink had a crack in it the plug did not work the shower did no have a place to put you soap or your shampoo in
Great location for the City. Friendly staff. Good food and atmosphere
Too noisy. Hotel on main road. They did supply ear plugs but still very noisy. Shame as it was a nice hotel
Great location, breakfast was good. Room was ideal size.
Bed was quite uncomfortable, and make and noise everytime you moved. Pub was loud till gone midnight.
The food is always excellent. Very reasonably priced.
Location was good. Receptions staff good and friendly. Onside bar and terrace very pleasant. Good value for money.
Bathroom was very old and dirty. Radiator rusty and dusty and looked like it had never been cleaned. Floor in reception and common areas was sticky and everything smelled of beer. Bar area was also dirty, e.g. light fixtures looked like they had never been dusted or cleaned. Breakfast staff rude.
Lovely ambience in bar and very nice bedroom -great location in lively Hoole but very quiet in hotel
Nothing
Clean and comfortable and convenient
Nothing
Lovely friendly staff, great breakfast and good amenities in the room
The radiator in the bathroom but it was a minor issue
Location was great Staff were very helpful and worked hard Good selection of drinks Food good Seating outside
We've stayed at Bawn Lodge before so we knew what to expect. It's perfectly located for the town centre, Chester Zoo and other local attractions. The rooms are of a good size, they're comfortable with ample storage. There's a well stocked hostess tray, nice toiletries and also a fridge. If you're debating breakfast it's definitely worth it! The bar offers a fantastic selection of drinks and there's a large enough menu to try, all food is served fresh and piping hot! There's plenty of parking, the bus stop is practically outside and there are a few shops over the road.
The only downside this time was that the bathroom appeared a little tired and the mattress sagged a little however we still think Bawn Lodge is value for money and these small details wouldn't stop us staying again!!
Very friendly staff on reception. Lovely outdoor beer garden .
Location good. Provided facilities as requested. Good breakfast.
Evening meal not so good. Decor a bit tired.
It was a good size room, nicely furnished with lots of facilities
It’s above a pub. It’s great if you’re visiting, and enjoying the pub in the evening and sleeping in the morning, but not so great if you’re travelling for work as it’s noisy and makes a short night.
Room, bed and shower clean. Cannot fault it. Enough towels too. Bar was nice too. Very friendly staff. Great breakfast! Very fresh.
Like everything
Nothing not to like
Nothing at all
Location, nice welcome, good parking
Dirty bathroom with lots of hairs (some in bed too). Miserable staff at breakfast. Noisy because above a lively pub. Curtains let lots of light through. Restaurant smelt strongly of chlorine/bleach at breakfast.
Location
The smell of bleach in dining area obviously needed to keep place clean but was stronger than the smell of anything else! Bathroom/shower could use bleach ie total renovation as rather old/mouldy
Parking. & room. Provision of gluten-free, as requested. bar staff very helpful, particularly Jay,& Paul.
Breakfast, especially cost per person if having Continental only. Lack of availability of Reception Staff @ several times, so had to rely on other staff.
Staff were very friendly, free parking, breakfast was amazing, extremely clean, comfortable bed, a tad squeaky but not a problem. Definitely recommend

Great location
Clean great bathroom
Easy for town centre, not noisy, despite being over a pub
Good location for train station and Hoole local shops. Chester town centre 20 minutes walk. Very quiet room at back of hotel. Lovely breakfast.
Nice comfortable hotel ,in a very convenient location near Chester with bus stop very close. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The bar was good. The breakfast was very good.
Nothing
The location was great for Chester city centre. Had a car park. Nice breakfast. Bedding was clean. It was quiet despite there being a bar downstairs.
The mattress was not particularly comfortable. The shower cubicle had black mould on the tiles & door. The hotel just felt tired, like it needed an overhaul.
Great friendly helpful staff
The young girl with fair hair was very obliging.Women at breakfast didnt seem very happy on 2nd day
Breakfast tea was always cold and breakfast a little greasy for us but plentyful. Bathroom had a awful smell in 207 but did fade once fan was on. Take shower cap as only shower outlet is on ceiling if you dont want to wash your hair. Too far for us oldies to walk into Chester, so a bit far out for us,so had to pay expensive car park charges! Probably wouldnt use again , although a pleasant enough stay for a couple of nights.
We really enjoyed our stay, & would recomend this hotel to our friends.
A comfortable and clean hotel ideally situated for a trip to Chester .Also Hoole itself is a great place for an evening out. Can’t fault this place. Breakfast is excellent value.
Staff was lovely and friendly, location was great food was delicious
Quite hot in the room on warm days
Easy walk into Chester, good breakfast, plenty parking and nice comfy room
Could do with a bit touching up in places but did not affect a wonderful short break. would definitely return
Room was nice for a night away. Great location and we enjoyed breakfast. Free parking too
There was nothing not to like
Location and a nice outside space.
Dirty and absolutely filthy carpets everywhere stairs and bedroom so had to put towels on the floor , dirty bathroom, shower filter, even the fan and cupboards. Cleaner couldn’t even vacuum the room after making the bed or change the cups for clean ones! The two women who run it are so unfriendly, unapproachable and moody. The breakfast was so terrible, cheap produce and server really miserable! Pictures look good but it’s all AI trust me…never again!
Ontbijt prima, personeel aardig, was gewoon gezellig. Het buiten zitten was erg fijn !
Binnen en op de kamer was het erg heet en benauwd
Excellent location, food quality & price excellent, bar fast service. 2nd stay and will book again
Very conveniently situated. Comfortable room
Live Cockroach on window ledge which we asked staff to remove. Very small shower cubicle. My husband is 6’2” and there was hardly any room in there.
Breakfast was very good, the food was hot and well cooked.
Friendly staff, food was very good and the location was great.
It was really hot in the room, but no one can regulate or guess what the weather is going to be. A fan in the room would have been good. There was no towel rail in the bathroom
Close enough to the City centre for convenience.
As it also operates as a pub the parking on arrival was very difficult (we parked in a side street a short walk away).
The value for money
Needed to use the toilet during breakfast so I went to the toilet used in the bar area and it was shocking. Un-useable so had to go to my room. This should have been cleaned prior.
Good location about 25 minutes walk into centre. The pub itself was very popular really busy. Breakfast good. Nice room.
The mattress was a memory form. Just personal preference that I they are not comfortable for me.
