Provider-sourced guest reviews.
Exceptional staff remembered our check-in conversation and asked me about it when I left. Unexpected and welcome cleaning mid-stay. Needs anticipated. Simple layout but creative and modern -- love the barn doors. Quiet and comfortable.
The hotel is nicely appointed in the lobby and bar area..Very homey and comfortable with fresh coffee at the ready late into the night. This is welcoming. The room very badly needs a new area rug as the concrete floors and otherwise industrial chic works fine. A beaten up rug to the bedroom area is not inviting and a bit gross. If I had my druthers a bathroom rug would be in place as well. The concrete floors are uninviting when getting dressed or brushing your teeth. The stay was entirely highlighted by the hospitality and feel-good that front of the house staff members JR and Adrianne exude so naturally. Assets like them are hard to come by as was the housekeeper for room #603 thinking his name was Justino? He had emigrated from Cuba and had the island’s smile and personality all very inviting.
We checked-in to this hotel with Alex and JR, whom immediately set the tone for our fantastic stay. Both of these gentlemen were beyond hospitable and uplifting, even in the face of a slew of guest check-ins that did not relent for a couple of hours. Despite the amenities for this hotel being as great as they are, Alex raised the bar even higher. Wish we had more people like him in the service industry...cheers guys!
Bra frokost, men den var ikke inkludert.
Veldig dyr parkering. Dusjen var i ustand.
I spend 100+ nights per year in all levels of hotels and maintain diamond status. We're middle aged, not high maintenance and travel to Portland at least 6 times per year. However negative, this review is honest. The lobby/reception is just a desk next to the front door. Room was not ready at 4:00 when we called ahead of time confirming it would be. Was finally checked-in at 4:35; told nothing about the property nor was my diamond status acknowledged. Front desk in general not friendly and lacking professionalism. Walked past countless times in three days and was never smiled at; spoken to or anything. However people on their phones all the time... Lack of security; anyone as access to restrooms, elevators, all floors and no elevator cameras. No visible security persons; only valet and front desk person... Room had visible wear & tear and stains on anything fabric. The air conditioning in room was barely functional which was addressed with no recourse. Room was not made up the next day/evening. Address this with front desk, said someone would come up and no one did. Restaurant sucked! No pancakes, French toast, waffles or baked goods available for breakfast? Morning restaurant staff were outright rude! Complained about guests/their jobs in front of us... One evening at 5:45pm out of menu items too? In conclusion: No body cares at this property! This Canopy truly failed on delivering what the brand says it's about or even basics of accommodations. Experiences like this make me rethink my Hilton brand loyalty.
There was no breakfast and the hotel was very booked wthout enough hellp to check us in.
The value was not acceptable. I feel they exagerated on the info and other hotels in the area were nicer.
The hotel is beautiful and clean. I love how they have hydration stations on every floor so bring your refillable flask! Customer service was great and I enjoyed the espresso machine in the room. However, the air conditioning in my room wasn’t working that great. Their AC is controlled and I couldn’t lower the temperature below 68 degrees. So for my ladies going through perimenopause or menopause, beware! The front desk was able to bring a fan to my room which helped me get through the night. Otherwise, it would have been miserable!
I book a three night stay at the canopy. The hotel itself is very nice, but my experience was much much less than I’d hoped. 1. The air conditioning started and stopped for my entire stay, I had to call reception and let them know, they told me maintenance would fix it, but they did not. 2. My breakfast at the hotels voux restaurant was cold, I sat at the bar and ordered eggs, and when I received them they were stone cold. There were maybe three other diners in the hotel restaurant at the time, and the staff yelled out across the restaurant to communicate, which felt abrasive. 3. On the morning of my last day the hotel water simply ceased to operate in the shower. I told the receptionist and she said she would take care of it, but later that night I turned the water in again, and still the same- cold water. 4. When house keeping made up my room on the second afternoon ( late at around 5pm) they removed the duvet cover. So on the third day I just had a nasty duvet with no cover. 5. When I called down to reception after the second time I tried to have a hot shower and explained all of this, the guy told me that he would let management know tomorrow, and didn’t offer to fix any of this. I told him, I was checking out tomorrow and he said ‘alright’ and left it at that. I’m not even bothering to list other issues, slow valet, both elevators broke down and I was unable to use them, and instead had to use the stairs. All this would be fine at a 2 star hotel, but I’m not paying for 2 star. I think if there was some effort to sort this stuff out I wouldn’t be writing this, but they don’t care.
Rooms were great. Food was great. Front desk staff was incredible. Make sure to try their local chocolate!
Stayed May 23–25 (Room K1-601) and this was one of the worst hotel experiences I've had. Valet was the only parking option and repeatedly failed to respond to calls and messages. Despite AMEX early check-in eligibility, I waited 60+ minutes in the lobby and the room still wasn't ready past 4 PM. The room itself had broken AC (offered a fan as a solution), a broken shower, and a cracked mirror with exposed glass — a genuine safety hazard with a young child present. Floor 6's water dispenser was broken, and I found a needle on the hallway floor near where my child was playing. On billing, I was charged for items I did not take — the receptionist gave me incorrect credit information, I corrected myself at the counter based on it, returned the items, and was still billed; she then refused to fix the charge. The checkout staff were dismissive and told me it was my responsibility to report property issues during my stay. The manager's goodwill gesture mid-stay was the only moment of competence in the entire visit. Everything else fell well below basic Hilton standards. Will not return.
Staff was very nice although I called twice for toilet paper. I kept in mind maybe it was busy downstairs but also felt ignored as I had to call second time.
I thought breakfast was included and free but had to pay extra. Wish it was more clear. Also the carpet was very bearded and snagged. Section should be replaced as my husband does flooring and we notice it really stands out. It pulled the over all look of place down a bit.
Room was too cold
Room temperature
Loved the water refill stations on each floor, the gym view was amazing. Staff very friendly and bar dinner menu was delicious
We had a great stay at Canopy by Hilton Portland Pearl District. The location was perfect—close to Powell’s Books, Screen Door, with easy freeway access and the metro nearby, which made getting around really convenient. The hotel has a stylish boutique vibe, and our room was spacious and very comfortable for two people. The king bed and pillows were especially cozy, and we appreciated having plenty of outlets and charging ports for our devices. I loved that we had access to the the ice machine, water refill station and microwave close to the elevator. Bonus: free coffee and cold water in the lobby sitting area, there's a gym on the top floor and roof top access. The staff were friendly enough and helpful when needed. I would definitely stay here again.
Front desk service was efficient overall—the night staff were warm and welcoming, while daytime interactions felt a bit less personable (not a terrible thing but just something I noticed). Also, the lobby scent was quite strong upon entry, which may be noticeable for those sensitive to fragrances, especially during allergy season.
Excellent customer service especially by JR! Same way to Lacey and Allegra. Thank you for the breakfast credit.
Location
Everything was really bad.
Easy check-in-out. Good valet service. Decent room. Great location.
Breakfast food service was slowwww plus misorders, and eggs not cooked properly. That’s the biggest ding here. Bar inventory was weak but not a biggie. Hotel staff and valet service were on it.
Easy and fast check in. Everyone we interacted with had a smile and was helpful. Room was clean and spacious. Has pretty much everything you need and within Walking distance to most of the Pearl district and commuter travel. Would recommend.
We enjoyed our stay at Canopy. Location is great is in what feels like a safe neighborhood. Great coffee spots, restaurants and shopping all in walking distance. While the front desk staff were nice and pleasant - as other reviews state there is not always someone at the desk and don’t answer the hotel phone. If you are looking for high touch service and concierge services this is not the place for you. Room was great - only issue is the mattresses are well past their prime and are worn down and not good for you back.
Location Quiet Comfortable beds
No room service. No refrigerator. No vending machines. No place to get a glass of milk before bed unless you want to get dressed and go down to the bar. Dirty and stained carpet. Breakfast service took more than 1/2 hour for three customer tables.
Convenient to the train station and public transportation, this hotel is on the edge of the Pearl District. The area appears long past its prime, but there are an abundance of restaurants in easy walking distance. Powell's City of Books is also very close by. The hotel itself is industrial chic, with high ceilings and exposed pipes in the lobby, concrete floors and thin cotton rugs in the rooms. Our king-bedded room faced noisy 9th St. There's a TV mounted on the wall opposite the bed, getting Netflix and YouTube in addition to cable channels. There's an alcove with enough room for suitcases and clothing. The bathroom has good counter space as well as some small shelves. There's a large shower, no tub. Amenities include hand soap and lotion in pump dispensers on the sink, wall-mounted body wash, shampoo, and conditioner in the shower. There's no refrigerator, but there's a cooling drawer. A communal microwave is in the hall. There's a Nespresso for your coffee. Valet parking is $55, or you can self park in the open lot across the street for $32. The restaurant serves breakfast, though while we were there fully a third of the menu was not available. If you have the $15 daily credit, that probably won't be enough though self-serve coffee is complimentary, While the facility itself is fine, our experience was truly substandard. Super shout out to Maria, who not only made a fine cocktail but helped serve breakfast one morning and even helped check us out. The rest of the staff we encountered ranged from pleasant to indifferent. Without going into detail, which we're taking up with the hotel, we had issues with room equipment, housekeeping, and the restaurant. Based on this, while we might stay at another Canopy, we would not recommend this one. Go down the street to the Hampton Inn instead. Quick tip: even if you check in with the app, be sure to go to the front desk. The digital key was temperamental. Ask about the "cocktail of the day" - the front desk and bartender don't agree on that. And ask about whether to expect daily housekeeping. I also noticed that the person in front of us was told she could request a refrigerator if she wanted one - that detail was left out for us.
Warm atmosphere and convenient amenities. Great room layout.
Very informal front reception area
Check in was a nightmare! We had a group of 14 checking in and some rooms were," not available" when we arrived and so some in our group had to be accommodated in different room arrangements. One of the rooms that we were given was dirty and the linens were in a heap on the floor, we waited over an hour for it to be cleaned. The microwave on floor 7 was broken and the ice machine wasn't working either. Upon checkout there was a mystery room service charge of $48. That was not ours and we couldn't get a receipt for valet parking that we needed to submit for reimbursement. SURPRISE, you have to pay $50. Per night for parking and it is not covered nor is it secure. All in all I consider myself lucky, as I was leaving another guest was coming in to report her car was broken into and they told her ," sorry out parking is handled by a third party and we don't have anything to do with it ."
Great location Great price Clean rooms and upgraded facility Nice staff
The Canopy is a beautiful, modern, trendy, and clean space in the Pearl. Was here for a business trip and the ample multifunctional and flex spaces for work, socializing, and dining are great. Customer service is also top tier; Appreciative of Christian and Israel for the gracious, warm welcome and always going above and beyond for guests!
The GM is a terrible person and probably hates himself, but everyone else was great.
Had a wonderful stay! Alex the manager gave me great recommendations for a wonderful coffee shop. His Customer service is out of this Word. Junior was also very kind, everyone is a rockstar. Sergio in housekeeping was also very nice. The rooms are industrial and chic. The entire stay was wonferful. Thank you Hilton. Never dissapoints.
Clean, modern rooms
Bar menu left a lot to be desired.
Stuff is nice
When we came to checking in at 4p they made us wait for an hour until we got into our room.Rooms are very small and not clean, there is carpet stain and beds are not comfortable, it does not feel like a 4 star hotel. The hotel located next to a lot of homeless and drug dealers area. And the cherry on top, our car got broken into in the parking lot that belongs to the hotel. Not worth the money and doesn’t feel safe!!
Truly everything I could of hoped for and more. This was such a short business trip but nonetheless the more relaxing as well. Checking in was spot on by Christian and the bedding was so comfortable I need to know where to get a bed like this! I woke up well rested and into a delightful aroma of a delicious breakfast awaiting at Vaux. I did enjoy the roof top gym as well, breathtaking views and got the workout needed to end the perfect day at this elegant sanctuary. Highly recommend this hotel and needless to say that I will be back next time my travels bring me to Portland. Ciao Canopy!
Room was clean and in good condition.
The property does not have its own restaurant. They have breakfast service by contract with an onsite cafeteria. I did not like it. A bit complicated, stand in line order your breakfast….. if you reserve room with breakfast included, this means that the hotel calculates an average daily allowance for your breakfast, if you go over this allowance you will be charged extra. Items left behind are sent to you by a company that obligates you to use PayPal to pay for the shipping charges. PayPal is a high security risk, it is highly hacked
I was supposed to get a refund because my room was not available, they put me up in a Hampton. No refund to date
The place is neat, nicely decorated with a modern touch, the staff is friendly, the room was great, the location convenient, and the breakfast was delicious.
Checked in by Israel whom was very accommodating and friendly. Checked out the famous Powell Book store thanks to Alex who gave me directions and showed genuine interest in making sure that I enjoyed my stay to the fullest. Maria the bartender was friendly and had a great vibe. Housekeeping has a great staff. Canopy was delightful and charming and I can’t wait to return in March for my next business trip.
This is a lovely Chic hotel in the middle of my favorite shopping district! I’ve been coming to the Pearl at least once or twice a year for the past 5 years, however this is my first time experiencing the Canopy. I can’t believe I didn’t stay here sooner! Jess was wonderful at check in, her and Alex at the desk made me feel like a long lost friend, they have extraordinary personalities. The rooms are gorgeous, I got a corner room with a beautiful view. I loved the desk space and the long drapes are very European style… I love it!! The restaurant was also a delightful experience, the oven pizza I had was very tasty! Gabe at the bar was super as well! Overall a comfortable experience, truly pleased with Hilton. I think I found my new brand to travel and unwind.
Canopy was a delightful experience for my family and I. We stumbled across this hotel last minute on our way to Seattle and all hands down I highly recommend for it's comfortable rooms, stylish vibe and all the care for the staff members. Christian and Alex checked me in, both sensational and great sense of humor. As a Hilton Honors member my wife and I valued the little details like the complimentary water and upgrade we received to a top floor. Breakfast was very good, highly recommend the pancakes and espressos. Overall this was a great quick stop and will return! Hilton never disappoints.
Planned a romantic getaway with my fiancé and from check in to check out this hotel was charming at its best! Israel and Jessica at the desk are fantastic! We were issued an early check in and were amazed with a wonderful surprise in our room that included a complimentary bottle of wine. Unfortunately they do not have an extensive dinner selection but across the street there a charming little Italian restaurant that was also a great experience. Alex the manager recommended this place and I can assure you it’s definitely worth it! At the time of check out we were allowed a complimentary late check out, which was much needed for a good night rest. Canopy team thank you for this amazing experience and making it truly unforgettable for my fiancé and I. We will return and hopefully plan our wedding here!
This is part of the Amex hotel collection and suggests the designation has no value. Not quant, just spartan, with lousy breakfast, a bar that operates when they feel like it, uncomfortable furniture in the rooms and lobby, shoddy maintenance. We shortened our trip to get out of there. An uncomfortable competitor to Aloft, not a pleasant experience. There must be better choices. Nice reception staff. Doors that don’t shut, filtered water with unchanged filters.
Great location. Clean room
The hotel was understaffed. The room was not cleaned until late in the afternoon and only after requesting several times. Breakfast in the morning was a fiasco. Free coffee and cups were gone by 8 am and to place an order for food or specialty drinks took 40 minutes. Only two people were working so it was not their fault. But for a hotel this is unacceptable and for what we paid for we were insulted.
Great location with clean, gorgeous rooms.
Always enjoy my stay with Canopy. Love that it is pet friendly and always clean. Super convenient Pearl district location. Front desk team of Wesley and Jess super friendly also!
Perfect location for walking to a lot of fantastic dining options and other attractions in the city. Staff was super friendly, bed was comfortable, and we liked the filtered water stations throughout. We will definitely return next time we have a Portland trip.
Nice property, clean with good service
Overall pretty good. Comfortable bed. Nice shower. On the other hand there were a lot of external noises in the morning disturbing sleep. Not sure if it was from tv’s in adjoining rooms or what. At 7:30 am there was a fast thumping noise that lasted 25 minutes. Also, a little standing dust on surface of coffee service area and bathroom.
Nice staff and clean rooms. Parking very expensive.
The staff is always so friendly. This is my third time staying here and this time it was for a staycation. It never disappoints. The staff is wonderful, the food is always good, and the rooms are clean. My only downside is the nightly valet price is quite high. Outside of that, I always enjoy my stay.
Great staff, great location and very comfortable beds. Only thing I didn't love were the cement floors in the room. However, they were consistant with the style.
Beautiful property with a lot of wonderful restaurants within walking distance. Great hospitality, easy valet, friendly front desk staff and bartending/baristas. If you're up for a longer jaunt, check out the Nob Hill district just about a 20 minute walk too. The only thing we had issue with is noise at night - both from the street below and what seem to be thin walls between rooms (or just noisy neighbors). Otherwise, the best time. Thank you for having us, Canopy!
Nice
I thought food was free but we paid for it. But food for breakfast was very good. Need to take breakfast out of comments .
The location is great and the staff are extremely welcoming and helpful; however, the room itself wasn’t well kept. A lot of the rug was pulled up and there were some stains.
there was no hot water for shower at night, the bed was uncomfortable and the carpet was dirty.
Check-in was smooth. We liked the public areas. Staff overall pleasant. Room was in need of help. Paint needed. Our particular room had after market black out blinds for airline guests - but they were pretty well shredded and barely went up and down. Bathroom was well appointed. Ice machine was not working on our floor. We asked to have the room cleaned - they didn’t vacuum but otherwise it was ok. Parking pretty spendy @ $55/day. Maybe that’s average in PDX. Breakfast was really good and appreciated being able to have a cappuccino. I gave it 3 stars because of the quality of the room.
Late-evening checkin agent very pleasant and accommodating. Valet service for car a plus. The fact it was 1/3 the price of the room is a bit extreme. Surrounding area is sketchy with homeless on the street down the block. I'm not comfortable walking the streets in Portland at night. Room smells of mildew due to a leak in a service area across from the room where there is a fan placed in front of the open water stained cabinet which is blowing smelly air under the threshold of the room. Noisy refrigerator. Drapes unhooked aprox one foot at each end so they are hanging. Bathroom simple, shower basin looks yellowed from age or wear. Nice Apothek amenities, but very limited. Sheets are average probably 300TC poly cotton blend - basic hotel sheets.
Was a fine hotel for one night but probably wouldn’t choose to stay here again.
$55 for car parking for one night stay. You decide if you like it. Otherwise, the room is clean. Outside is relatively quiet. Free breakfast.
Walking distance to many shops and restaurants, clean and cozy rooms
We had no hot water for showers. Car was broken into at parking lot across street that the valet person told us to park in. Just a miserable stay.
It had a great lobby and food menu.
The room had some issues, the tv didn’t work even after the remote got replaced. The shower was dirty and we didn’t know the refrigerator was off until it was too late. There also was no obvious way to turn it on.
Hotel and room is clean and very friendly front desk!
We stayed here August 2025. The hotel is beautiful, our room was fantastic, and the staff is 10 out 10! Especially Wesley - a real stand-up guy - he is super nice and helpful. Can't recommend this place highly enough.
Nice hotel. Just next to downtown. Parking was always available. The food was great. Breakfasts was good but slow.
The room service was inexistent. Leak from the shower flooding the rest of the bathroom. Coffeee maker did not work. In the hallway, the water and ice dispennser were broken. My experience was very deceiving. I paid almost 150 dollars per night for a terrible room and experience like hasn't been acceotable.
We had a couple hiccups during our stay, however the staff quickly corrected the issue. The location is great.
Staff was key to making this trip so nice. Thanks Jess, Wesley, and Ginger! Room was nice, roof top was sweet. The cleanliness and facilities I think were nice but only slight bummer was the shared microwave can get a little dirty depending on the other guests. Also, the walls are understandably hotel thin so could hear next room opening drawers and of course when the cleaning service is going on.
Nice, walkable neighborhood.
We had a lovely experience!
Long wait to check in. Too few staff
Parking price is excessive.
We chose this hotel as loyal Honors members, and after having a really great experience at a Canopy by Hilton in another city. Unfortunately, this hotel did not live up to the quality I’m used to at Hilton hotels and would recommend exploring other options in this area. Check-in: We arrived on a Saturday and weren’t given access to our rooms until an hour after check-in due to cleaning, “quality inspection", and further fixes after not meeting inspection standards. By the line at the front desk and others waiting in the lobby, it’s clear we weren’t the only ones. Later in the same evening we discovered empty body soap when showering, and lights that didn’t turn on. Rooms: The rooms are relatively nice and have modern decor. The bed was comfortable and had good pillows (not always a given). The floors are cement with a rather dirty area rug under the bed which brings the quality down a bit. One of our rooms stayed cool while the other was damp and humid. On the two days we removed our sleep signs to receive room service – one day no one came, and on the other only the bathroom was cleaned (but not the beds) so we had to request a return visit. I was told room service normally occurs between 4 and 5pm — an inconvenient time for guests in my opinion. Valet: Despite the high daily cost, we chose to use the valet during our stay for the sake of convenience. The system works well overall, but you’re at the mercy of their availability during busy times. Sometimes the 10 minute lead-time was enough and a couple times it took 40 minutes from time of request to getting the car. I noticed a parking lot across the street for much less, which seems like a better option in hindsight. This hotel has a lot of potential, but unfortunately fell short in some way on a daily basis. It appears they lack the staff to maintain quality and handle daily turnover. On the upside, it’s worth noting that everyone we interacted with – from the front desk to the bartender and valet – were very friendly and personable.
The property was unique. The staff was wonderful, very accommodating. The lobby was cute. The room was a little outdated, but the bed was super comfortable which made of for it. The hotel is within walking distance to restaurants and shopping. A real plus!
Did not like that check in was so late then the rooms were still not ready for the price we pay for one night without parking
It was in a quiet area and near a nice grocery store, restaurant, and Hello from Portland shop.
Very Poor service, No roomcleaning during the day even after several reminders to front desk. Only 2 towels for 4 persons. Bed sheets dirty and burnmarked. No working AC in the fitness room during a super hot summer day. Overall a very poor experience given that the Hotel is supposed to be in the upper scale. Avoid, must be vetter options out there.
