The hotel manager was amazing very helpful and nice
All was okay
Nothing
The room is very modern, confortable and clean.
Noise of other guests returning drunk. Doors kept being banged closed and then. Being awken at 7.30am to the gym music reverberating in my room. Need 24 hour receptionist
Apartment was clean and overall sufficient for 3 adults. Bed was comfortable, sofa bed was okay.
Only one hand towel between 3 in bathroom, shelf above sink was loose and sloping. No hooks to hang clothes while using shower No hand towel in kitchen. Sofa bed covered emergency exit door and also was locked and unable to open in an emergency. Which was a danger.
It was bigger than it looks when you’re inside
When we shut the bathroom window, there was a nasty snell coming from a drain. We told the lady on reception who was very apologetic and was going to check out room after we left.
The staff and the place itself
Tv didn't work put the kettle on after 2 minutes just went off
The location was great, close to everything. The layout of the apartment was ok and met our needs. The kitchenette was great, loved the complementary tea/coffee. Quiet area and free parking.
The shower did not work well, we had to chose between the right temperature, the right water pressure and having water coming out from the shower head. Towels appeared cleaned yet were stained. Shelves in the bedroom and bathroom were close to falling out. The sofa bed is fine for two small children but not two adults. The mattress was comfortable thanks to the 2 single duvets laid out as mattress toppers but it’s not appropriate to use a single duvet in a double bed duvet cover for the top, there’s just not enough to cover two people. Only 3 chairs to sit on to eat but advertised as ok for 4 people.
Very easy book in , Jeanette was the receptionist who was very helpful , although reception stops at 18:00hrs . Your keys are in a lock out box which is indicated ( number to open) via a email and returned on leaving to same box . Access door up stairs is via a FOB , so security is good . The room is of in my opinion good condition and the bed very comfortable. Only minor in my opinion is the shower basin , it is smooth surface and a slip hazard . A non slip mat would be cheap option . Next door to the hotel is Rangos restaurant for breakfast / evening meal and carry out
I’m always weary of a cheaper end hotel, I’m a hotel snob really. But I needed a room last minute and my experience couldn’t have been better. From the first call where the guy on reception couldn’t have been more helpful. I was arriving very late so the contactless check in was perfect. To my arrival to find a cute, clean, modern room with Yorkshire tea and a stack of biscuits. I slept like a log in a really comfy clean bed and had what could be described as a luxury shower! Amazing value, great place, if you’re in need to be anywhere near this hotel, I’d genuinely, highly recommend it! Awesome find, I’ll be back.
This really was the worst hotel stay I have ever experienced which makes me sad as the two staff members I spoke to on check in and check out seemed lovely. I had booked to stay for 3 nights with my son who has autism and prefers small quiet hotels. When booking I was looking for a hotel close to the beamish museum and the review for this one seemed really good, plus an Italian restaurant joined on was a plus…or so I thought! We arrived and check in was easy, the lock boxes seemed strange, especially when asked to leave the second key in the lock box for emergencies in case we were to get locked out the room, however that explanation seemed to make sense. This was until I realised the lock on room 13 doesn’t actually lock from the inside and prevent anyone with another key from being able to open it from the outside. This lead to me having to put the armchair up against the door, not that it would have provided much safety. The reception isn’t manner 24/7 which is slightly worrying in the event of something going wrong but i know some hotels do operate like this. However, there was no security to get through the front door at the times that there are no staff working, you literally walk up to the from door and it automatically opens. As you go up the stairs you need a fob, but as we experienced, not if someone who has a fob walks up before you and holds the door open assuming you should be there. In first arrival after a 3 hour drive the room looked light as it had 2 windows, I liked the 2 windows but that’s the only thing positive i have to say. The room was roasting and the fan provided blew warm air whilst making a noise like it was on its last legs, thankfully I had brought a tower fan with us just incase as I expected warm weather so got it out of the car. Night time come and we got constant slamming doors and loud banging, I thought it’s clear that other guest had no respect for other people what so ever but expected as it got quite late for the noise to reduce, it didn’t. The slamming of the door that continued every few minutes til after 4am sounded like they weee trying to slam the door right through the wall, our room would shake with each slam. By 2:30am my autistic child was trying to go to sleep after having his night medication for sleeping and the door slam would frighten him again. Then came the strong cigarette smoke smell that flooded our room, it was disgusting and my son was really struggling. It smelt like someone was smoking in our room it was that strong but here was a very big gap at the bottom of our door. By 3:30am I was still wide awake I got on live chat to hotels.com who I’d booked with and after telling them the situation and sending photographs of the door gap they advised me to put a wet towel across under the door to prevent the smoke smell. I went into the bathroom to check the vent and the noise coming from the vent was a loud strained buzz, the vent couldn’t be turned off if I wanted to but I’m not surprised it was making a strained noise because it was absolutely caked in thick dust/ dirty, it looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in years, it was vile and definitely a health hazard. Hotels.com got in touch with the hotel manager and then advised me to call a number but I couldn’t as my son had just dropped off to sleep with exhaustion and if I’d have been on the phone talking he would have woken and gone into a meltdown, other guests would have been disturbed plus he’d already been unnecessarily distressed with the door slamming and smoke smell. I was advised to speak to reception the next day but the hotels.com agent did state that the hotel were aware of the dirty vent and the noise which are me wonder why they have sold a room that’s a health hazard? This morning when my son woke up I got him ready as fast as could and ended our 3 night stay after just 1 night, I couldn’t put my child or myself through that ordeal again, I honestly didn’t feel safe in there. The lady who checked us out did offer us another room but although it was a kind offer I really couldn’t ever stay there again. I had found a premier inn with availability in Newcastle Washington, and although it’s further away from where I wanted to be it’s very clean and safe, which is priority. The lady who checked us out was lovely, showed her the photos of the door gap, filthy vent and broken tv remote, she understood why I was checking out. She did advise that the slam of the door and cigarette smoke was likely to have been the fire escape door which was right next to our room, someone must have been going by that door to smoke instead of going outside and that door apparently has to be slammed hard to shut or it won’t shut. Why are people using a fire escape as a smoking area for a start and imagine if whoever smoking didn’t quite shut that door, anyone could get in there and room 13 would be the first they come to with a door that doesn’t lock. Absolutely abysmal, it was like Hotel Hellhole for us which is disappointing as the two staff members really did seem nice. I will be requesting a refund for the 2 nights we were unable to stay due to health and safety failures. There’s no way I could have had any child stay there but a very vulnerable child who is registered disabled due to very complex needs is a definite never ever again :( Also the restaurant wasn’t open even though online stated it was, however this was minor compared to the nightmare stay.
Good location for beamish, close to supermarket
No reception
Easy to find, easy accessible, clean
Missing remote batteries in both rooms, no staff available as it’s all self check in, the restaurant was closed on the evening even though online said it would be open.
Location ease of access and cleanliness
Room 11 key didn’t quite work
Nice clean looking room, staff were great and looked after my needs as a wheelchair user
Only real complaint was a faulty window in the room, there was a big fan in there but when switched on the decides where it wants to point The room had 2 nice big windows but over looked residential bungalows and a park
The reception staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel was clean and the bed was very comfortable. Also plenty of tea, coffee and milk provided and mugs which is great.
The heat in the hotel was quite unbearable I asked for a fan on the 2nd morning but I was then out for the day and when I came back I hadn't been given one and had nowhere nearby to buy one. I did not realise this hotel was unmanned at night, which would of been fine if there was a security system at front door but the door just automatically opened and the door at the top of the stairs had an access system, however, this wasn't working and I just walked through. So I did not feel very safe at night.
Very spacious and comfortable
Nothing to be honest
We were given a very warm welcome by Jeanette. She was so friendly and went above and beyond to make sure we were happy with our accommodation and was very helpful. The accommodation was clean and comfortable. We couldn't fault it.
Nothing.
Good location for our purpose
Poor maintenance, window broken, fan useless, room overheated, no food
Easy access
Room was great only issue I had it was a very hot night and my window was duck taped up so couldn’t open it
An excellent hotel, the room, for the price, was faultless, both the room and bathroom were spotlessly clean and the little additions such as tea/coffee facilities is a plus. The receptionists were excellent, friendly and helpful. I needed a cab to my destination from the Hotel and both companies I called advised there was a 20 minute wait, Adam, one of the receptionists advised, "Dont worry I will take you there in my car". That is what you call customer service!.
Great service and helpful staff. Clean and comfortable room at a very reasonable price. I highly recommend Hotel 52.
Cheap and very clean. Good for short local stays.
Entry is via an email and lockbox system as no staff after certain hours. Couldn’t get the key to work in room door, it took two fellow guests to help me out, apparently it’s a common problem. This really needs to be sorted out. Batteries in tv control needed but no one on site to help sort anything over night.
Very clean, well equipped, comfortable room. The staff we spoke to were lovely.
Room walls were a little thin, could hear toilets flushing & showers running very clearly.
Room was clean, location was 5 mins to Beamish and walking distance to small town centre
No hot water in the tap, TV remote didnt work and despite reporting nobody looked to try and fix it despite advising they would. 3 Also family room for 3 had an extra bed for no reason so took up alot of space, would have preferred somewhere to hand clothes
Class property
Nothing
Very clean,great value,
Lovely room and hotel service.
I had prior rang up to ensure there is a fan left in the rooms which I was told was standard. There was no fan in the room.
Location was ideal for what we required
Nothing
Easy parking and very clean
N/A
Size of rooms was good an it had a kitchen
Shower leak .no hair dryer .an fan was rubbish an didn't blow any air out
Good price.Good size rooms. Plenty of supplies for tea and coffee.
No hair dryer. TV remote not working in either of the two rooms we stayed in.
The breakfast at Rangos was excellent. Checking in was easy though I didn't receive some of the emails, but you can get the check-in link from booking.com.
it was a bit disconcerting that there was no one there on reception on arrival, but it was easy enough to get the room key from the lock boxes. The double bed in our room was two singles zipped together, it wasn't all that comfortable due to uneven wear on the mattresses. Other rooms are probably better.
It was clean, comfortable bed and was located close enough for the Beamish museum. Restaurant next to the hotel, food was good and reasonably priced.
To be honest wasn’t a fan, I would personally describe this as more close to being a hostel than a hotel. Rooms small, gap around the door and walls very thin so could hear everything from running taps to toilets flushing. No staff on our overnight stay.
Clean room, nice breakfast, lovely friendly staff - would recommend.
Everything was great, no complaints.
When the breakfast establishment was open, the breakfast was good, but it isn’t open Monday and Tuesday, therefore we had no breakfast. The remote for the tele did not work, and we could not open the window.
My room was very clean and the beds were great.
Apparently the check in time is 4.00pm , which is far too late for travellers. The lovely lady on reception did let us in though. It was beautiful weather in Stanley when I arrived. But unfortunately this meant the room was very hot as there was no air conditioner. I could only open the windows about an inch, so there was no airflow at all. It was very uncomfortable even with a fan that was given to me to use .
Mixed review for this one. On the one hand, it is excellent value for money and ‘does the job’ if you just need a bed and bathroom for a couple of nights. Location is good and noise outside was minimal. Overall cleanliness was good and having Rango’s bar & restaurant attached is very handy, with a lovely beer garden. (Shame it’s not open Mondays and Tuesdays at the time of writing.) However, when we checked in to this supposedly “LGBTQ+ friendly” hotel as two young women, we were asked repeatedly if we wanted to change our double bed for a room with 2 single beds. When we repeatedly said no thank you, a double is what we wanted, the receptionist still didn’t seem to cotton-on that we were a couple, and insisted that the bed doesn’t separate. With people queuing behind us, this started to feel uncomfortable. To later add to this discomfort, some of our family members began talking to the receptionist in our absence and casually mentioned that they had family staying at the hotel, only for the receptionist to voluntarily tell them our room number!!! This extreme lack of security and guest privacy was appalling! We feel that they must operate with a “that would never happen here” mindset, but by providing guest details and room numbers with no proof of identity, this made us feel extremely unsafe. We were assured we would need ID to check in, and we were asked to fill in a pre-check in form online to state the names and identities of all guests. We were assured no other people would be permitted to stay in our room other than the named guests. We were NOT asked for ID on check-in and then our room information was handed out to people not even staying in our room. We may not have wanted family to know where we were staying (having fled from an unsafe family household myself in the past, this is extremely unnerving!) and furthermore, they had no proof that they even WERE family. Recent incidents have seen people claiming to be someone’s partner and claiming to have ‘forgotten their room number’, meaning they were able to enter a victim’s room and resulted in fatality. Add to this the seemingly ‘small’ things, such as the door spy-hole being broken (we had to use tissue to block it from the inside during our stay), no A/C during a heatwave (we requested a fan, which was old, dusty and partially broken, but better than nothing), paper-thin walls and a smell of drains in the bathroom (with no drain/plug cover in the shower), this hotel could not only do with some TLC & attention to detail, but also requires extreme improvements in hotel & guest security. To further this, when checking out, all lock-boxes for those checking out that morning were left open for all to see, with no fob or key system needed to enter the lobby, nor any staff present in reception. This meant anyone could walk in and figure out which rooms were occupied and had people checking out. Whilst we understand that many people think “it will never happen here”, unfortunately it does happen where we live, and in many other parts of the country. In this day and age, sadly, hotels need to take more precautions to ensure guest safety and security. If all of these things were to be addressed and fixed in the future, we may look to return for future visits due to the excellent value for money. Until then, we would not recommend this hotel with the current measures. I am hopeful that they will take this feedback on board and use it constructively, as we would like to be able to continue to support independent and local businesses like this one in the future.
Clean & comfortable..value for money. Staff are really nice.
The room was lovely and clean (bed did have a few marks on sheet but not a massive problem). Beds very comfy, plenty pillows etc. tea/coffee was a lovely touch appreciated these as we were unable to have the breakfast which was disappointing but we made it work.
There didn’t see to be much control/ monitoring over who was staying in the hotel which was worrying especially as I came with my daughter. There was a drunk couple hanging around the front very early in the morning when we left and our key safe was open when I went to put it in, again worrying.
The room was clean with a lovely array of complimentary drinks to choose from. Everything was cleanly decorated and a comfy bed.
There was no secure entry system or receptionist so anyone could walk in off the street right up to room
Great location for visiting Beamish Open Air Museum. Exceptionally clean and spacious room. Comfortable bed.
Nothing to dislike
Lovely staff.vey handy for visit to Beemish
No food available on the days we were there. Door lock very awkward to operate. A new sink, plug and tap..both need adjustment. Please think about some hooks in the bathroom. ( and some hot water to the sink would be nice!)
I've lost count of the time,s My husband and I have stayed here. It's very convenient for visiting my son and hos wife. It's a self check in with a code for a key safe. No one is onreception. But there if a phone number if you need assistance. The rooms are functional and clean. Comfy beds . With no one been on reception we always bring extra tea coffee sugar etc. The cleaners we met were lovely and did ask us if there's is anything we needed. Range,s next door is lovely place to eat . But its not open on a Monday or Tuesday. There's a one stop 5 mins walk if you need anything and a start bucks asda Aldi close by .
Our room number 18. Has a table and chairs. The plastic chairs are not the comfiest so it would be a idea to get more comfortable chairs to sit on to have cuppa and read . Another small thing would be to have a extra lamp in the room rather then having the main light on. . There's are not critics but more personal preference. . Overall the room is comfortable clean and functional.
Self contained and clean.
The email link for the keys.
Close to town Centre and Golf Course Very Clean room
Check in Confusing due to being Digital Had no Access to Emails No bar facilities as advertised No breakfast due to restaurant being closed
We had a mixed experience at this hotel. The room itself was relatively clean, but unfortunately very humid. The window couldn’t be opened due to it being a fire exit, and the door also didn’t allow for ventilation, which made the stay quite uncomfortable. The most disappointing part, however, was the check-out process. We were delayed for quite some time because the reception staff were unable to confirm our payment through Booking.com. While we understand that technical or system issues can happen, the situation was handled poorly. We were asked to pay again in full and then reclaim the money ourselves from Booking.com, which is not acceptable. I’m glad we refused to make a double payment. This resulted in us being held up unnecessarily, with young children waiting in the car, while staff contacted their manager and tried to resolve the issue step by step. Overall, while the room was passable, but inefficient handling at check-out left a negative impression. I hope the hotel has since addressed these issues for future guests.
It was ideal for where I wanted to go.
The telly could have been bigger and ideally air-con would have been good. The drains was quite smelly aswell
The staff were very welcoming they also suggested the restaurant next door and that was great. The room was very clean.
In our room there was a green light in the center of the kitchen with the bed facing it. The light flickered all night and was extremely bright I barely got 3 hours of sleep. Me and my partner both looked around and flicked many switches and we couldn't get the light to turn off. Other than this we both had a really pleasant stay.
The room was clean and bright
We found the door locking messy and confusing.
Comfortable bed, clean room generally a good stay
Several issues, basin plug and shower screen leaked, toilet seat loose, bed and bathroom windows draughts and whistles clothes hanging rail inadequate
Obtaining key and instruction were very good. Room was good size. Comfortable bed. Room was clean. Some signs of wear and tear in room but nothing major. Heating worked and room temperature was comfortable.Shower room and toilet clean and in a good state of repair. Tea and coffee facilities good
More milk cartons - suggest 10 off. More than 2 biscuits - suggest 4 or 6. There is receptionist after certain time but service can be obtained by phone.
Nicely decorated
Accessibility and kitchen facilities in the room
The area was excellent for travelling to Beamish. The room was clean and the staff were friendly. Plenty tea and coffee in the room. The food was excellent from Rangos next door. We ate there both nights. The staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for you. Thank you!
The bed was a 3/4 bed, not a double bed, which we paid for a double room. The lady on reception did ask us if we wanted to move on the 2nd night due to them having a spare room, but we were on our way out for the evening, so just stayed where we were. We had 3 deep steps down to the bathroom, which should have been advertised when we booked the room. Anyone with mobility issues would not have been able to use the bathroom. The handrail in the bathroom was starting to come off the wall, which didn't bother us, but could be a problem for others. There was a large cigarette burn on the white table, with a book over the top of it. The walls are very thin, allowing you to hear what others are saying.
Pretty cheap price. Tea and coffee maker. Clean.
Double bed was on the small size. Its an unstaffed hotel. The stated tel number would not connect to offsite staff and 2 emails went unanswered for a (albeit fairly non-essential) query. This is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE if a hotel is choosibg an unmanned operation mode. I also felt the automatic main door was a very poor security feature. Anyone coukd get in or follow a resident in.
The staff was really helpful and the lady at reception even went out of her way to show us where to go.
The bed was 2 singles pushed together instead of a double we booked. TV remote doesn't work back missing of the remote and I think the batteries were flat.
Clean and tidy rooms very friendly staff helpful
The staff are really helpful
All good 👍 staff were brilliant and very helpful 👍 location just what we needed 😃
We liked it all but could have been just a little more warmer 😁
The hotel is great , lots of space in the room , comfy bed , very clean , loved the shower gel etc Good location for visiting Beamish Great tea selection
The lock on the door was very tricky amd we thought a few times the door wasnt going to open . A full length mirror and more plug sockets would be a good addition. There were fabulous tea selection but very poor coffee choice , coffee bags would be a lovely touch.
Location to the C2C trail and Durham. Room was lovely and clean with plenty of tea, coffee etc. Beds really comfy - see below regarding pillows
The tv would come on by itself in the middle of the night. (Maybe someone else's remote activating it from another room) Could have done with some hooks in the bathroom and possibly a shelf or stool to put things on whilst using the bathroom instead of on the floor. The pillows were the biggest let down as they were a bit like bricks - we had to get one for my Mom as she could not sleep. Left in room as we were travelling home by train.
It was clean and tidy, just what we needed.
Nothing
Kein Fön vorhanden. Kein Personal vorhanden.
Love the location where the property is, second time staying will be booking again for a longer stay in the family apartment always clean and the staff are always there incase need anything before they go home also staff make you feel so welcome
I liked everything not a bad word to say about it
The attached restaurant was pretty good,
Two lights not working in the bathroom for 2 days, TV remote control didn't work properly and couldn't be fixed. Walls were very thin and the place is noisy, shower was a dribble. Limited parking. No staff after 7 PM. Complicated online check in.
Very clean
Don’t reply to messages and the telephone number doesn’t work. Promised 1pm check in which i had to pay for but this wasn’t possible. Was then told its 2pm but on all paperwork it was 1pm. Asked for invoice but no joy at the moment.
Clean and tidy and warm
Pillows were abit hard and someone smoking cannabis outside which was coming in through the window
Clean
Small bed
This is the second time we’ve stayed at Hotel 52. The staff are incredibly helpful and polite. The room we had was immaculate. Plenty of tea and coffee available in the room. New and fresh furniture and decor. I’m a bit of a clean freak and was more than satisfied with en-suite bathroom. I noticed the shower basin was super clean as was the taps and toilet. I’m booking another stay for next week. I recommend this hotel.
Got to. Stay in the same room for. 2 nights
Everything was kk.
Friendly welcome always. Staff always so accommodating. Clean comfy and warm.
Nothing.
Stayed for two nights at Hotel 52.....fab stay ! Spotlessly clean and nothing to much trouble....have stayed before and will definitely stay again
The room was very clean and spacious.
We ended up leaving at 1am and driving home due to the noise from the guest above.
Room was amazing seperate living room to the bedroom. Had everything you would ever need from kettle to cutlery oven to microwave, coffee, sugar. Great location. Best nights sleep had in ages the bed was that comfortable. The list goes on would definitely recommend and if I'm ever staying near that area again il will definitely be booking again. Thank you.
Nothing absolutely loved this place.
the food in Rangos was very good. The whole place was clean especially the room. The lift was a godsend as I struggle with stairs. This was our 2nd visit and we will definately come again.
We would have preferred someone on Reception even just to help with local info, but the cleaner was very helpful.
Lovely spacious, comfortable place
Nothing
Used once before hence this booking. Attended a wedding locally so was ideal. Room was a good size, bed was very comfortable, plenty space, tea, coffee, milk 😁. More than other places we have stayed. One thing that was missing was a chair in room. Had breakfast in rangos, hubby had the full English. Was plenty and hubby really enjoyed it. Would recommend 😁
All was good nothing to dislike..
Breakfast was lovely, only had it one day as unable to get in, but apparently you enter from the main outside door when, the enturnel door is locked. Staff in the restaurant were lovely. The rooms and building inside were beautifully clean.
There was no information booklet about anything to do with the hotel, ie times of breakfast, where its located. Information about the gym, can guests use it? Just the basic information that people need. No hairdryer, the only time I don't bring one there isn't one, almost every hotel I've stayed in has a hairdryer. I had no spare toilet roll, looked like half a roll on the holder, so had to think about the amout I used, (finished it the morning I left). Could not turn the TV off with the remote, all the other buttons worked but unable to turn off and on had to do it on the TV.
Ideal location and excellent quality /choice of breakfast
