The staff were amazing. So friendly and accommodating... The facilities were fabulous. We had a deluxe room overlooking the lavender fields... So lovely with the sun shining in during the morning. The breakfasts were divine and really presented. Again the waiting staff were so friendly. Proper northeast humour and genuine willingness to help.

Sehr freundliche und hilfsbereite Mitarbeiter, die auch über unser eingerostetes Schulenglisch hinweg gelächelt haben. Zimmer, Ausstattung und Lage entsprachen vollkommen der Beschreibung.

Einziger kleiner Wermutstropfen wäre vielleicht eine fehlende richtige Abstellmöglichkeit für Fahrräder. Aber selbst da wurde uns schnell und unkompliziert eine Lösung geschaffen.

It was quiet and peaceful. The room was large, clean and welcoming. The Bathroom was excellent, the huge bath and shower were a lovely surprise. The staff were helpful, friendly and very professional. The restaurant was beautiful and the food was delicious.

Deep bath. No where to put shampoo soap in bath or shower. Window in bathroom that opened on to shared balcony, busy car event one evening that we weren’t forewarned about approx 2000 decended. Cars and motorbikes revving up all night. No wine deals on that night ‘ because we hosting an event’ Very slow protracted return of item we left behind. Numerous phone calls emails sent with everyone passing the buck

I was disappointed with the breakfast, the menu looked lovely, we had the full breakfast but the quality just wasn’t good.. but that was the only thing, as the room was lovely.

My daughter had her wedding at the black horse.

Absolutely stunning location with beautiful surroundings. The room was lovely and very comfortable, the bath wash absolutely enormous! We did have an issue with getting the water hot but the staff did come and fix that. The breakfast was delicious with lots of choice.

The evening meal in the restaurant was disappointing, it came out very cold and not as described, not a lot of thought had gone into it. Service was disorganised too.

We stayed in the Red Row Cottages and the room was surprisingly large, with everything we could possibly need for our 2 night stay. The bath and shower took a little bit of working out but we managed it in the end. The luxury toiletries and bath robes were a nice touch. The bed was incredibly comfortable with a great selection of pillows which meant we slept well both nights. Breakfast was good on both days and with plenty of choice. We ate in the hotel on one of the evenings and there were several good choices on the menu.

Bath took 8 years to run. Previous stay left razor in bathroom which wasn't removed. Fan was covered in dust And all night a boiler noise had a ticking noise which kept me awake Room 6 Overall was a very nice property if had a good clean

We stayed in Huckleberry Cottage which was peaceful and secluded. It was comfortable and homely. We saw some lovely deer in the fields surrounding the cottage. Would return in a jiffy.

We absolutely love the big round metal bath and the design of the room

Was quite disappointed with the food for the price that you pay it was a bit expensive when you were supplied with frozen chips with your fish also you have to pay service charge where other places you have the choice to opt out of a service charge and felt that we had to pay just under £6 service charge would’ve been happier if we could have the option to opt out and leave a tip if we wish to as don’t feel like the meals are valued for the money

Very spacious and fairly clean. Was mould on the shower seal and rust on the chain of the bath tub plug. Few cobwebs on the cupboards in the bathroom and the chair at the desk in the bedroom wasn’t attached properly (I nearly fell off)

The food looked better than it tasted.

The large bath tub was a great feature that my son loved. The decor and facilities were lovely and a bit of a wow factor. The front presentation of the room was beautiful. We had to leave early the following morning before breakfast was being served but the staff pulled out the stops and cooked us a breakfast before they opened which was much appreciate due to my son playing in a golf competition early. Thank you sooo much

Chambre exceptionnelle dans un bel environnement, calme, agréable et romantique. Tout est de bon goût, interieur et extérieur, ou l'on pourrait passer plusieurs nuits. Très propre. Très bon petit déjeuner avec beaucoup de choix.

Seul point noir, le repas du soir pris au pub du site, est un peu cher.

The room was absolutely beautiful. Like a wee gottage. Stunning. Staff were very efficient and polite. Amazing. They are a credit and an asset to the Black Horse. Wonderful stay. A bit remote if you don’t have a care. Other than that. Fantastic. !!!

Beautifully appointed room, however some of the furnishing started to show signs of wear and tear. Spacious bathroom with a large copper bath and a walk in shower.

Our stay was tainted by the noise outside our room all night long. The venue hosted a wedding earlier that day and all through the night guests from other rooms carried on smoking and drinking outside our window. It was a hot night and we had not option but to keep the window open as there were no other means to cool the room. We could not sleep all night and we felt that the site was not properly controlled or managed through the night and we had no one to escalate the issue too. We just felt trapped, at the mercy of other people roaming around. We raised the issue with the reception staff the next who promised will escalate to her manager but we have heard nothing so I suspect the noise issue during the night is quite a common occurrence.

Warm welcome on arrival and shown to our room personally. Plenty of drink sachets in room and biscuits too. Staff friendly and checked meals okay in reataurant. Good quality accommodation in a beautiful location.

Ordered an evening meal but had to ask after 45 minutes. Did get an apology that the till roll had run out and our order hadnt got to the kitchen. Our meals were prepared and served although the fish batter was very over done but we were so hungry we did eat it. It was recognised as when we went to pay our meals were taken off the bill. I know mistakes happen and we werent charged due to the error but maybe there could be a way of the waiting staff checking the tables they have taken an order for, have received their food.

The picturesque rural location of the Inn and it’s delightful detached Red Row accommodation , the Black Horse’s back story linked in to the song about Durham MP Bobby Shafto, the colourful lavender rows providing an evening scent. The choice on the menu catered for all tastes and the breakfasts were first class …all in all a great stay close to Beamish Museum.

Unfortunately we never found out until we went to bed that none of the lights were working, not that it mattered.

Individual, clean, comfortable room where I could park my car right outside my door. The beautiful surroundings were breathtaking. Breakfast each morning was delightful with lots to choose from. Full English to cereal & everything in between. Brilliant value for money.

It’s a beautiful and peaceful place, the atmosphere was peaceful and beautiful. Clean with very lovely staff.

Which gives a tranquil experience. Restaurant area was so comfortable and relaxed .with beautiful views. We enjoyed the food but would have liked a little more choice.
