The Ball Alley

The hosts were friendly and welcoming. Our accommodation was clean and comfortable, with plenty of space and privacy. There was a good choice at breakfast, the cooked food was very tasty with good quality ingredients. The whole stay was pleasant and we would definitely stay there again. Good value for money and very convenient for the local attractions.

The only staff we encountered were the breakfast servers and they were excellent, very friendly and the breakfast was very good.

The fact that we didn't have anywhere to sit in the evening to have a quiet conversation away from the noisy bar . Maybe if you stay for more than 1 night the rooms need have the bathrooms cleaned and cups replaced

The Room and bathroom were clean and comfortable. The breakfast was hearty and well cooked. Wi-fi was fine. The only problem was the noise from live music entertainment that continued until very late

Room very clean with comfortable bed. Ideal location as we were visiting The Beamish Museum. Staff very friendly, excellent breakfast.

The location was perfect as we were visiting Beamish after a very long drive. The breakfast was really nice too.

Their was a kitchen next to us which had the washing machine and dryer on from 9pm until 1:15am in the morning which was loud and vibrating through the wall so it was impossible to sleep.

Overall stay very good. Staff warm and inviting. Although we did not have an en-suite room we were aware of this from booking. Separate bathroom clean and always accessible. Loved kitchen that provided all essentials if wanting to eat as a family within the property.

Car parking arrangements. Although there is ample parking some vehicles were parked in a way that prevented passing. Info on car details could be left with staff to ensure no difficulties for others

The room was very clean and smelt great. We had great cups of tea in the room and only round the corner from the beamish museum. Round the corner from grill pub also. Under is the pub. I was weary if this as I'm a light sleeper but didn't hear a thing. I will have to say my favourite but was the breakfast. Amazing lady serving the food and the chef did a great job on my full English. They didn't miss a thing with breakfast I would be happy to stay here again. Thankyou for the stay the staff was great.

The only thing I can pick in was the toilet was splashing once it had been flushed. When I needed to go, toilet water was splashing. Apart from that everything was private and straight forward.

Breakfast was nice! Had a full English to power up for the day ahead. Room was nice, clean, but a tad dusty where the coffee mugs were. No en-suite bathroom, had to go through a hallway for that.

I paid twice, once on Booking.com, then again on the night of my stay. £66 both times, I mean, the room was nice, but not £132 nice ha.

The staff were very friendly, nothing was too much trouble. They accommadated to our nutritional needs fantastically at breakfast and had a good selection of cereals both gluten/dairy free and normal. Our room was clean and well kept with clean towels, toiletries, as well as tea/ coffee making facilities. We had the use of the communal kitchen which was great, it had ironing board, iron, fridge, cooker, everything you might need.

The only negative was our room was on the front next to a busy road so was quite noisy.

The only issue I had was that due to it being a warm night we kept the window open - which was a really bad idea because the traffic outside was so close! A lorry drove post and we thought the world was ending! Nothing they can do about that, so it's not a fault on their part!

The full English was one of the best I've had at a hotel in a long time. The landlady and staff were more than helpful.

If you get rooms 3 and 4 the bathroom is across the hall - not an issue if you know the people in the other room but might be a problem if not.

This B&B was superb. We attended a wedding not far from it and chose to stay here rather than the venue. Such a good decision. The staff were friendly and helpful. Bar prices are really good. Our room was very clean and comfortable. Toiletries, tea, coffee and biscuits in the room. Breakfast was excellent. Cereals, toast, plenty of jams and marmalade, tea, coffee, fresh juice and a full English breakfast. The staff serving breakfast were outstanding. Very attentive, friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. Fantastic value for money. Communication before our stay was excellent and they went out of their way to make sure we had a fabulous stay. I totally recommend this place.

Lovely people made us welcome when we arrived and nothing was too much trouble. Clean room with ensuite, plenty of wardrobe space and a comfortable bed. Car parking at the rear and side of the building and a large beer garden behind . Large full English breakfast with plenty of toast . If we're ever up here again we will definitely stay here .

Lindsay the owner made us feel really at home and couldn't help enough, even suggesting places in Durham to visit as our Newcastle castle visit fell through. The Ball Alley was easy to find and in a nice location, the room was clean and comfortable, the breakfast excellent, and the "Stones" beer was an added bonus. Top marks all round..

I couldn't find fault.

We stayed here as it was close to a wedding nearby where it was over £300 to stay. This is located just a short walk (less than 10 minutes) away for a fraction of the price. We were welcomed by friendly staff and customers of the pub too!! The rooms are basic and nothing flash but incredibly clean, warm and comfortable and had everything you could need. The breakfast the next day was exceptional. Lots of cereal to choose from, lovely ice cold fresh orange juice pots of tea and coffee, toast with plenty of jam choices and a beautifully cooked full English! I have already recommended it to at least 3 people!

Breakfast great. A very friendly family run pub. My son enjoyed playing darts and pool. in the pub. This helped with the stay as there is little to do in Stanley with a child in the evening.

The live music on Saturday night was incredibly loud and kept us all awake. Had I known in advance about the music, I would probably not have booked. It wasn’t made clear that vegetarian breakfast options needed to be pre-ordered.

Clean well maintained rooms, comfortable beds, with lots of pillows, excellent breakfast selection, very friendly staff, nothing was too much trouble. The locals in the pub downstairs were all really nice and chatty too. Loved the little kitchenette we had access to. Really felt like a home from home. 5 minute walk to the venue we attended for a wedding. 100% recommend. 25 minute drive to Newcastle or Durham, 5 minutes to Beamish.

The staff were so helpful and friendly. As I mentioned I was Gluten Free, GF bread provided at breakfast and the GF cereal selection was the best I have experienced. Well done to all. Breakfast is amazing with full English menu, milk on tables for cereal an individual pot of coffee (lovely touch) and orange juice all presented so nicely. Bedroom was clean and tidy, extra pillows available in wardrobe if needed. Would book again.

On arrival we parked up with ease and headed through the front of the bar. It felt a little daunting at first, but any nerves disappeared instantly when the regulars greeted us with a friendly hello. We were shown to our room, which had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The beds were cosy, the room was warm, and the shower was honestly the most powerful I’ve ever used. There were extra tea and coffee supplies available too, which was a lovely touch. We went out for food in the evening but returned to find a fantastic singer performing in the bar, so we stayed for an hour to enjoy the atmosphere before heading to bed. We could hear the music from our room, but it finished at 11pm on the dot, so it didn’t disturb us at all. Breakfast the next morning was excellent. A full English with toast, juice, tea or coffee, plus a selection of cereals. It set us up perfectly for our day at Beamish, which was only a four minute drive away, making the location ideal. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, and everyone we met was so warm and welcoming. Their hospitality genuinely helped make our weekend feel special.
