Beautiful old pub with views of the canal at the back. A few minutes walk into the town and towpath.
There was not anything we didn’t like
Nothing.
There was not much to like. My room was minuscule, there was no comfort, it was barely functional. The staff were unwelcoming, I got the impression we were an inconvenience. On leaving we met a lady member of staff , who we had not seen the day before, and she smiled and was very pleasant. Honestly, that was the first time we had encountered proper customer service.
The room was lovely, the service was helpful and friendly, and the food was very good. The property is in a very good position, right next to the canal and within an easy walk of the town centre. We were able to walk to all the sights, and also had some excellent meals in town.
If we had wanted to eat or sit out in the garden, we might have found it disappointing - but we didn't.
Dinner and breakfast were great
The shower needed a new head. The duvet was very heavy
The location and parking.
When we arrived we had to wait to check in as you only had one staff member and she had to look after the bar, the restaurant, the other bar up at the canal and then finally us. That’s too much to expect for one person to cover and give good, timely service. The bedroom was terribly small and the bed, it was horrible. On the side of the bed closest to the bathroom had a huge hole, totally uncomfortable and I couldn’t sleep and when I got up I was barely able to move with a sore back and it’s still very sore. Then the shower, oh my goodness, it was scolding hot!! I could not regulate the temperature as the taps were extremely hard to turn. So I asked my husband to help as he has very strong hands and he couldn’t do it. So he ran down stairs for some help, but of course nobody was there. He ended up getting a towel to wrap around the tap to get it to turn. So we both had cold showers. The lamp also didn’t work and it had bare wires hanging out of the cord. We had been so excited to stay at your hotel and now I would never stay there again or recommend any one else either.
Great room, close to everything. Beautiful scenery.
Stairs up to the room, pubs being closed on tuesdays.
Location perfect alongside canal. Great cider on tap in bar.
Nothing
It’s by a canal and the staff were great. 😊
Almost nothing. 🙂
The location was good and the bar served some lovely ciders.
The room was very tired- the shower was awkward to use and the beds were too soft. Apart from that it was a decent place to stay.
Excellent food, lovely large room with spotless en suite
Only downside was slightly steep stairs up to the bedroom.
Staff friendly and location good. Food was excellent
A little bit tired
Great location and friendly helpful staff
Our room was very hot even with the window wide open
The location was perfect for exploring the area. Parking was great and the area along the canal for enjoying a drink was nice.
Quite tired and needs a bit of a refurbishment. Took quite sometime for breakfast to be delivered after ordering.
A very warm welcome and the room and facilities were very clean and exactly what we needed
The approach to the room felt like it needed a bit of tlc but the room itself was perfect. As readers we would have liked the lights to have been a bit brighter but overall a lovely stay.
Location
Decor was a bit dark
Delicious home cooked wholesome. Good choice.
Food excellent, slightly to much salt on scrabble eggs you can always add salt but not take it away. Staff amazing and friendly. Location absolutely fantastic.
Room fab and bed fab, bathroom fab but no where to hug towels and in fab shower no shelf for shampoo etc.
An old characterful pub with accommodation to match. Beautifully located on the canal side.
Right by the Canal Lock, so an old Inn built circa 1826, so small windows and thick walls. It’s a budget inn, and honest about it. It’s clean, and well run. Location is 7 min walk to town centre. Parking is free, once registered for 24 hours at a time. There’s enough signs, so no excuse. You can grab a drink, sit inside, or in the garden, or some take some steepish steps up to the canal bank, and watch the boats glide by. Room was fine, shower was excellent. Breakfast is worth having.
A little tired in places, but it’s a budget inn. Manage your expectations, or go somewhere and pay more. Steps are steep up to rooms, and to canal, but that’s because of its age not because I didn’t like it.
Excellent stay. Excellent evening meal (burger). Excellent breakfast (double berth). Staff amazing. I didn't have a car so didn't need to register one. But there are loads or signs everywhere to remind you too and a tablet on the bar to enable you too. Do not forget! Even if only popping in for 1 minute, register your car. All in all highly recommended. Wonderful stay
Staff were very friendly
Shower was a bit on the dribly side
Room was ok bed headboard was lose was clean but could he cleaner like dirty marks on the walls and cobwebs in places . Stair carpets need attention big time hazard waiting to happen but was a lovely place and location
Carpets on stairs need urgent attention . Bed was horrible and hard I think the floor would of been more comfortable
Location was great
Lady who ‘welcomed’ us was pretty grumpy and could do with some customer service training. Room was tatty and toilet hadn’t been cleaned. Not worth what we paid.
On a cycling trip, a little run down but for what we wanted it was fine
Loved the proximity to town and the canal path. Friendly staff, good food and drink
Just wasn't sure what to do with the key with our early departure (had to make it back to London Heathrow to return the car). All the doors to the main building were locked and there was no key drop, so I put it through the mail slot of the main door.
Very relaxed and friendly staff. Bedroom and en suite were clean and tidy.
The public areas were very grubby/dirty and it needs some decoration. Perhaps this is meant to be 'rustic charm' but I think clean and rustic would be better! The stairs to the accommodation were also very steep.
The position was nice
The “double” room was tiny. Not even enough space for our luggage. The staff and outside areas were scruffy and unkempt.
Nice location next to the canal and near the town centre. Staff were friends and efficient - especially Hannah? Although she seemed to have to do everything - receptionist, bar server, waitress etc.
Property needed some TLC. A bit shabby both inside and outside. Picnic tables by the canal could have been idyllic but it was difficult to find a clean one to sit at. They could also have done with a coat of paint.
Loved the location right on the canal. Walking distance into town with loads of shops and restaurants. Bradford on Avon is beautiful and worth a visit. I'd stay here again to explore more.
Nothing
Clean and comfortable Great staff Great location
Looked a bit tired but still very clean Menu in room was not the same as menu in restaurant
Room was super basic but had a bed, bathroom and drink facilities that I needed for my short stay. The pub, garden and seating by the canal was picturesque and lovely to relax in. Copious parking was also available.
Room was very small with limited space to move. Even though it was a double bed I was glad I was traveling alone
Room was fine, food good. Ideal to spend some quality time with our granddaughter as a meeting place. Staff very good & helpful.
The carpet on the stairs is very worn & potentially very dangerous.I told one of the staff about this & she said she would pass on the message. It is a lovely building, but would benefit with a bit of TLC.
Lovely hotel right by the Canal. Second visit, and won’t be our last.
Traffic noise in the morning from busy main road, but that’s a very minor complaint tbf.
Clean, lovely comfortable room, and an excellent breakfast.
Very nicely situated along the canal, with a market within walking distance. The room was snug, but wisely set up. And overall comfortable
The bin in the toilet/shower hadn’t been cleaned in what seemed a few days…
The bedroom decore was good, the bed was very comfortable, lovely big shower with plenty of room.
On entering the bar, it was very dated, which I found off putting.
Room was a good size with tea and coffee facilities available. Bathroom was really nice and good spacious shower. Good food available in the restaurant and a nice beer garden when the weather is good. Location was lovely right on the canal with canal boats passing frequently and going through the lock.
Bed was uncomfortable with peeling paint on the ceiling. Quirky layout and up stairs to rooms however lots of stains on the carpets on the way up so didn't give a good first impression. Wifi didn't work.
Good location, 10 minute walk to shops, pubs, restaurants. Lovely breakfast, friendly staff. Lovely beer garden right beside the canal.
The carpets were a little dated and worn on the stairs.
Staff friendly, room lovely and perfect location
Lovely place
Nothing to dislike, it was lovely
Lovely room, fantastic location and staff were really friendly and helpful
Nothing
It had a lovely feel about it
Nothing
They are dog friendly and one price for all dogs Food great
Very clean, dog friendly and had everything that is required for a night stay. Love the fact that there is only one small charge for dogs.
We have stayed here several times. The staff are always welcoming and friendly. It’s only a short walk into town.
We stayed in "The Bridge" twin room. Nice size, beds were very comfortable, and bathroom was spotless. Good value for the money.
The position was perfect
The room was a little bit dark
Breakfast was great. The staff were fabulous.
The stairs up to the room were quite difficult to manoeuvre… maybe a new fitted carpet would make things a bit easier.
Immaculately clean, great location
A very warm welcome. Comfortable bed. Radiator that we turned on in room
The place is very run down. Holes in carpets in stairs. Blind in bathroom hanging off Very bad experience with food we ordered in the evening. I had cheese in my plate that had been used for grating previously. Very expensive for very poor quality.
Location was great.
The facility was a bit worn. The carpets were not particularly clean. The furniture as well. please note that breakfast is not included, as this was not pointed out to me beforehand.
I had requested a late check in but I had a problem with my car so I couldn't get there. The staff phoned me and I couldn't pick up. I called them back but there was no answer, so they sent me an email with all the instructions on how to get into my room. They went over and above.
An exceptional small inn...really a hidden treasure.Comfortable room, friendly and efficient staff and excellent food and beer.Only very minor negative was that there was little cupboard space, but the structure of the room would prevent any alterations. Overall we had a great stay
Only slight negative was the lack of cupboard space but this was our problem as we needed an unusual amount of clothes because we had to attend several very different engagements. It certainly did not detract from the excellence of the property or our stay.
Location is excellent with a 5 minute walk into town. Lovely oldy worldy feeling with most old high buildings giving a lot of caracture to the place. The girl who checked us in was fabulous and helped us to the extreme to order evening meal delivered from outside as the inn chef was unwell.
The Inn has narrow and quite a few steep stairs to the bedrooms which we struggled with as OAPs but it is part of the building which looks quite old in some parts from outside..but inside is tidy.
Great location for arriving by canoe on the canal. Close to the town centre Comfortable room and good breakfast
Great location - right next to the Canal and a 10 minute walk from the centre. Easy and free parking.
Convenient location. Well priced and friendly staff.
Nothing
Convenient location. A comfortable, well equipped room for the price. Very friendly, welcoming staff.
Ideal location with excellent surroundings and fantastic friendly staff. Very welcoming also with dogs
Replace the coffee machine with a more user friendly one please.
Close to town. Option of bar and food. Enjoyed the music of the group practising. Parking on site. Food and drink on site. Next to canal with view of boats. Friendly staff.
Room was quite small but value for money.
Have stayed at The Barge a few times now and the evening meal and breakfast was excellent as usual. Friendly staff and atmosphere. The room was clean, warm and cosy. Our stay at The Barge is always enjoyable. Thank you!
It's a lovely place. Beautiful room and good customer service. I had a really nice time. I do recommend
Clean accomodation, very helpful, friendly staff. Walking distance to centre of town. We had an evening meal on the 2 nights of our stay and food was very good. Good choice of ales & ciders. Parking available.
Breakfast not included in price of accommodation. It is available but you need to pay extra. Would have been nice if the open fire in the backroom was lit.
Decor, spacious room, helpful staff, location
All good
The pub and setting was lovely but trip was cut short due to water leak. Was disappointed to leave 2 nights early. The Barge Inn have been great with the offer of another stay, I am awaiting a refund from booking.com
It was unfortunate to have a leak which closed the pub which resulted in us leaving 2 nights early.
Very nice food. 👌
Great stay! The room was clean, comfortable, and the staff were very friendly.
All good.
Friendly, welcoming staff who went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable.

Friendly, convenient for our purpose
Location on the canal, great outdoor space although it was the wrong time of year for us to enjoy it. Cosy pub for food and drinks with log fires. Comfy beds. Great bathroom.
A bit vague about gluten free breakfast options so ate locally
Nice pub with brilliant rooms. Friendly helpful staff
Nothing
The staff were polite and helpfull
There was no heating in the room and the bar/restaurant was barely warm as the log fire kept going out. I will not be staying here again.
The staff and food and location

Bathroom was lovely. Well appointed
Poor mattress little choice of tea coffee few on offer. Breakfast not taken. Didn't look very inspiring. Could be cleaner. Don't need to see cobwebs at this room rate.
