It was close to town center
Room 3 in windy ridge was run down. Chipped and stained skirting boards, grubby walls. Also ensuite was more a wash room with toilet sink and shower. Even hours after having shower, the whole bathroom area was still soaking. Got feet and trousers wet every time we wanted to use toilet. Blinds were difficult to close, tv was hard to work and the shower took forever to heat up and kept going freezing cold. Have stayed in room 5 before which was amazing. Room 3 was a let down.
Everything
A very pleasant, restful overnight stay. Excellent dinner and tasty breakfast. Cosy and comfortable room. Friendly and helpful staff. Thanks to all
The breakfast is very good.
The mattress was rather soft for me/
Had a great sleep. Excellent breakfast.
Single room felt a bit run down but I still had a very good nights sleep and it did the job .
Bed was comfortable;bedside lamps very good, particularly for reading in bed;TV worked well with a range of options (eg Netflix);view of Loch Ryan from my bedroom and the dining room;window could open really wide which is not always possible in hotels and was much appreciated;could walk into town from the hotel;staff very friendly.
As often seems to be the case in hotels, there was not much storage space,no drawers,no shelves (missed particularly in the bathroom) ,no hooks to hang coats etc on and no full length mirror. Lack of mirror, shelves and hooks could easily be rectified without taking up much space.
Breakfast was good staff was nice
We thought we was staying in the hotel but they put us in the house about 4houses long the road.
Large comfortable bed. Seaview.
Hotel was in Stranraer - advertised on Booking.com under Portpatrick, our preferred destination. (Searched 'Portpatrick'). No good place to hang towels for a couple. Shower had only two settings, hot and scalding. Breakfast buffet was disappointing. Could have done with fresh fruit mix, also Muesli. Compared badly with our previous stay elsewhere. Breakfast staff inexperienced and not very welcoming. Breakfast room atmosphere was like a morgue. Could have done with music playing. I played music from my mobile to break the silence which was greeted with scepticism by one of the staff who took a vote amongst Guests to see who were happy with music. They all were (except her). Our original arrival into the Hotel could have had a better meet and greet.
Food and cleanliness
Had a very good dinner in restaurant overlooking beautiful Bay. Staff were wonderful, young smart and well trained. Owner went out of her way to make things comfortable.
We asked for an easy access room which we received and it was very nice but we were on full view to passers by and alternative blinds would have been an improvement
Staff were friendly and efficient but not intrusive Rooms and facilities were well tended and consistent Location ideal for local and wider access
Booking, check-in, room comfort, view, restaurant ambience, dinners and breakfasts staff cheerfulness and attention.
Service was excellent. Food very good
Bedrooms were too hot
Breakfast was excellent as we're evening meals
The wet room in room 3 floods all over as the floor is level instead of sloping towards the drain.
Excellent hotel very good rooms with very comfortable beds. Food had a great choice and very well presented with great taste.
Went for a light lunch and most disappointed. The beef and onion toasties was not at all as expected... Great big lumps of diced or chopped tough meat and not well presented. The chicken panini was equally "messy" to look at... chicken and mayonnaise just thrown on to the panini. On the plus side, the staff, waiting staff that is, we're pleasant and took my complaint to the cook. His reply was that that is always how he makes a roast beef toasties... No apology. Most certainly won't be returning.
Staff were lovely. Food excellent. Room comfortable and spacious.
Nothing really. Maybe armchairs in the lounge.

Location
There was no public lounge/sitting area.
We enjoyed our two days there
My only downside was and it's really not the Hotel fault was that I'm disabled and I struggled with the stairs I felt that once I was up them I preferred not too come back down
Location was good Food was excellent Staff very pleasant and efficient
Stairs were steep and difficult to see stairs due to pattern on carpet Bathroom could have a shelf Shower tiles need regrouting
We have stayed at the Craignelder many times & it never fails to be an excellent place to visit…

Great location for quick access to the ferry in the morning. Excellent staff, friendly and super helpful, and very good food in the restaurant. Parking was easy for two motorcycles and out of sight from the road. Very comfortable room with good WiFi.
Unable to fault it.
Proximity to ferry at Cairnryan.
Bathroom was very small
Alle und alles sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Super im deren Hotel zu Abend gegessen. Tolles Frühstück und ruhige Zimmer.
There are bed and breakfasts in Stranraer Cairnryan that are more comfortable for the same price. I was disappointed by the standard of this hotel. The staff were helpful though.
As a lone female traveller, I felt safe and comfortable, the room was clean and the bed comfortable. I didn't have a table booked in the restaurant but they managed to squeeze me in and I am so glad they did as the food was exceptional. I will be returning next year.
A larger mug would be lovely but there's nothing else to complain about.
The people and the food were excellent
Evening meal and breakfast all superb, huge portions and great value for money. Rooms are clean and tidy and generally a decent size Staff always friendly and helpful
WIFI could be better, I was travelling for work and had to use my phones data. Parking can be a little tricky, but can use the street opposite.
Really nice hotel and friendly staff 👌
Breakfast excellent and location was perfect for us to get the ferry from Cairnryan to get home
Lovely place i highly recommend staff are lovely and helpful food lovely stayed here twice going to book again b4 winter comes in
Breakfast was lovely. Didn't stay for dinner or drinks so I can't comment on those. Great location.
Shower was poor. It was Electric, so not very hot/powerful, and the shower head couldn't be moved so it was facing a wall.
Breakfast
Difficult to park the car.
Lovely atmosphere. Room perfect and comfy
Welcoming, friendly and helpful staff. Good menu.
Great location
Breakfast was too late for me to be able to use facility.
We wanted a hotel with nice rooms and a restaurant close to the ferry port. This hotel delivered and some. If you choose to stay in this hotel see if room 9 is available the views are spectacular. The staff in reception, bar and restaurant were both efficient but extremely friendly we were made to feel vet welcome. The food in the restaurant was extremely good quality and reasonably priced. The room itself was well appointed and vey clean. A very good stay - a very good hotel
Exactly what we wanted (cyclists starting the C2C). Great value and staff sprang into action when we asked to have evening meal at virtually the time the kitchen was due to close.
Food was first class, no complaints. We all had an early bird meal, however extremely disappointed to discover that veg is not included with a roast dinner and incurs an extra charge! I do understand that a lot of people do not always want veg but I think if it is an option to have it, it should be included in the price of meal.
The craignelder hotel is a very nice, clean and friendly hotel. The breakfasts are brilliant and plentiful. The staff are all very friendly and tidy also very efficient. I didn't have a dinner as I had other plans but the menu is excellent and the food looked incredible. I have no hesitation to recommend this hotel to anyone.
I did have an issue whereby I came back one day and discovered an A4 size paper stuck on the dressing table with a message about smoking in the room and anyone found to be doing this would be FINED £50 for extra cleaning. I had been out for the day and when smoking I put my used cigarette ends in a pocket on the side of my bag to dispose of sensibly. However on returning to the hotel I disposed of the cigarette ends in the waste bin. I was fuming when I saw the message and confronted the manager and explained why there were cigarette ends in the bin. I said a better way would have been to ask me to my face for an explanation which I wouldn't have had a problem as I could have cleared up any misunderstanding instead of having a sarcastic note left in my room. By the way I am a 67yrs old pensioner. I did get an apology which I accepted. Also there isn't a lot of car parking on site (room for about 7 vehicles) . However there's car parks nearby. Apart from this little mistake by the hotel everything else was very good.
It's close enough to the local shops but far enough away to still be quiet. The rooms are nice and clean and the bed was quite comfy. I stayed there only for one night as I had a ferry to catch in the morning and that's only 10 mins away. The breakfast was great, very filling, fresh and hot.
There is a kettle in the room but in my room there wasn't a plug socket close enough to use it where it was so I had to either put the kettle over by the bed or on the floor. It's not their fault but parking is very limited (4 cars out front) so bear that in mind, especially if you have a larger vehicle. Overall it's a great little hotel and I'd definitely use it again
Nice little hotel that provided us with what was required for a short stay. The car park is off road but small however there is free parking in the street which is quiet and well lit at night. The room was fine although a little tired in places but we slept well enough . The staff were really helpful and accomodating . The breakfast was superb ! Filled me up until the evening and in particular the full cooked Scots fry was on point. Quality produce well cooked and presented. I would imagine the meals served in the resteraunt during the day would be as good too. We did not dine here in the evening as we were out with family most of the day but the menu we saw was extensive. The public areas were well presented and provisoned . Stranraer people are just so friendly . We would stay here again.
Great hotel, good food, fantastic staff. Will stay here again.👍👍
Nothing
Breakfast offered a great selection of hot and cold food.
I had to park on the street one night as the car park was full. However being on a corner site, the hotel does not have a lot of parking.
Sehr nettes Personal, gutes Essen, ruhig und sauber.
Es gab nichts zu beanstanden. Alles war zufriedenstellend.
Very friendly staff Great food - breakfast included : also chose to eat my evening meal here which was excellent Room comfortable but was very aware of noises from other rooms in the corridor- was awake until after 0100 as a result of disturbances
Die gute Verkehrsanbindung. Das Personal ist freundlich und das Frühstück ausreichend. Der Parkplatz am Hoteleigenen Gelände ist sehr von Vorteil.
Location
No beer garden
Easily accessible, and no problem parking
Nothing
Lovely hotel and staff
Fantastic little spot. Staff were super friendly and made our stay perfect. We had a fantastic evening meal and the breakfast was perfect
Not that we didn't like but the room was small and could be updated but wouldn't let that put me off .
Excellent meals - book as the restaurant is very popular with non- residents. Room very clean and comfortable.
Hot weather and no air-con.
Lovely, quaint accommodation. Staff were great. Food was good, especially breakfast.
No lift, but I understand.
i liked how easy and accessible it was and the breakfast was really nice.
The room was too hot even with the window open, The tv kept flashing
staff were extremely helpful and accommodating of needs arriving from late arrival and issues that arose. good at communicative. kind and generous hearted.
the shower was tricky to get going as there was a fold in the pipe, not immediately apparent why water wasnt flowing.
Bardzo pomocny personel. Bez problemowa komunikacja. Pokój czyściutki i cichy. Nr8. Widok na zatoczkę. Cicho. Łazienka schludna. Szerokie łóżko: ) Śniadanie smaczne i sycące (full scottish)
Fully renovated rooms, well decorated and soundproof. Nice bathroom. Room 9 is particularly nice.
We liked staying there as its handy for the boat back to Northern Ireland. Lovely place to stay and very quite. They are getting the outside all painted and it is looking really well. We have stayed there before. The staff are lovely and the find was good.
Exellent location with a beautiful view across Loch Ryan. Comfortable accommodation and very clean. The breakfast was great and we had dinner both nights of our stay. The food is very good and the service is Exellent. The staff are smiley and very pleasant and professional. I would stay here again and recommend it to others.
All good
Everything. Good location, clean spacious rooms, great food, fantastic friendly staff and really good value for money.
Top Breakfast
Friendly staff. Clean comfortable bedroom Lovely breakfast and dinner.
No issues.
This isn’t the first time I’ve been here, as a local in the town I’ve been many many times. I have always enjoyed the food hence why I return, on this occasion the food wasn’t up to much. Quite sad as I took friends who had t been before. Out service was shocking, but again didn’t expect much on that front as every single time we have been in the last 4 years it’s been the same, Louise I believe her name is should not work on front of house she is rude and can’t even be bothered to greet people or at the very least smile. I was really embarrassed as I said I took friends after raving about how good food was. Even my friends commented about the woman’s attitude. I think the owner needs to retrain some staff members because it really is shocking. Many people from the town have also commented on this. I’ve never left a review before as I don’t like to however on this occasion I have just had enough. I wont be back again.
Convenience to the port, very friendly staff and accommodating. Cleanliness and food good
Nothing in particular, shower a bit wobbly
Our room was nicely furnished with modern ensuite. We had evening meal as well as breakfast and the food was excellent. Lovely helpful staff.
Nothing!
Clean comfortable rooms with tea/coffee facilities. Friendly helpful staff and excellent food. Good choice, beautifully presented and good value. Very convenient for the nearby ferry port, being only 10 minutes away.
No complaints
There is an amazing chef at the restaurant on the property.
It was not great for a single person, but when I needed wasn’t nearby. For pubs and activities something a little more towards the center of town, but frankly, this was a peaceful retreat for walks on the shore and close by train station.
Everybody was fantastic and exceptionally helpful. Highly recommend.
Absolutely nothing
We had the dinner which was very reasonably priced and tasty. All staff that we met were really friendly, relaxed and helpful. We were without a car for the evening, but all facilities were so close to the hotel that we weren't inconvenienced. The room was clean, with a view of the sea and did the trick for us.
Our room was ready early but we had to pay £10 to access it. This is common practice now in all hotels, but always feels like you are paying extra for something that they have done anyway, we didn't specifically ask for it to me ready early. That said however, it did not take away from the visit and the convenient location and friendly staff more than made up for it.
Cooked breakfast was excellent
Suits my travel needs and had lovely stay
Accueil très sympathique, chambre spacieuse et calme, restaurant et petit déjeuner TOP, un parking pour nos motos, je recommande vivement cet hôtel.
The restaurant and the breakfast.
The room, on ground floor had to keep blind closed as customers from the restaurant were smoking right outside the room window.Mould in the bathroom shower cubicle. And no WiFi.
Fabulous great food beautiful views comfortable room. Big wow!
Loved everything
Everything I liked about the place was nothing else I can say food was good. Selection of beers. The motorbikes were safe. Yes, very well done
There was nothing wrong with this hotel. Absolutely brilliant
Hotel was very clean and beds was very comfortable. Breakfast next morning for me and son was excellent we both really enjoyed it and came out off kitchen nice and hot. Food itself was excellent and plenty of choice.
Lovely bright room very fresh and clean.. Great varied selection of courses and wines on dinner menu . Break fast was hot and again something for everyone's taste '
We couldn't find fault with anything .
The staff were do helpful and friendly nothing was too much trouble.
The room was small but adequate.
..
.
Stayed in the house rooms clean and tidy
Positioned next to the shore. I only stayed one night and didn’t see the rest of the house but the room was clean and comfortable. Staff waited for me as I arrived late.
Location, food, staff and cleanliness
Twin beds were slim, thinner than a single and I thought I may fall out during the night. Pillow was hard, suggest feather pillows would be better. Beds were soft and comfortable, even if thin.
Everything was great, Breakfast was Fantastic loads of options and staff very helpful would stay here again
Great friendly staff
This is an excellent hotel in the ideal location for us. Lovely staff, great good and top-notch facilities. Highly recommended.

Het uitzicht, het ontbijt en de ontzettend vriendelijke en behulpzame medewerkers. Heel goede service!
Niets, alles was top

Nothing
Happy atmosphere about the place, friendly staff.
The turn into the hotel from the road was very tight and car park small.
location to town and walkable
room was at front of house on ground floor made it difficult to get a longer sleep in the morning with some guests leaving early and people talking in the hall
Staff and food were great would stay again
Perfect location for town centre and hospital. Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent free WiFi. Breakfast smelled delicious but due to a medical appointment I couldn’t partake on this occasion.
The in room kettle has a short power lead. The only place I could find to plug it in was on floor under the desk. Could be a safety hazard if forgotten about.
Very clean and comfortable. Close to town centre and nice staff.
Staff were very helpful and friendly. The rooms were basic but had everything we needed. The beds were very comfortable- a great night sleep was had by all
Nothing
We stayed overnight for the ferry and it was perfect perfect for our needs, location, cleanest hotel we stayed on for the 10 days we were in Scotland
Both Dinner and Breakfast were 5*, Bed was most comfortable and the view was excellent.
Everything was to our liking.
