The Lion Wendlebury

Great property, lovely staff

Easy parking, check in ok, room was nice shower was very good, restaurant menu was good, breakfast good if little expensive, drinks choice was very good, room service was poor, room not serviced as requested, nice stay overall , staff were friendly and helpful.

Rooms really lovely. Location good close to Bicester. Pub also great. Cute village. You’ll need a car or be happy to get taxis.

Great place, wonderful food

Lovely old pub but beautifully fitted out for contemporary comfort. Very handy for a journey on M40 but in quiet pretty village.

Nicely refurbished pub in quit location. Friendly staff, good food. Modern comfortable room.

The Lion is a traditional pub/hotel in a lovely quiet village. The staff are very pleasant and helpful, food is excellent, rooms are spacious and clean with tea and coffee facilities. We will return here and I recommend staying here.

Really surprised by how nice this was. Gorgeous pub and really nice rooms in a separate building. Standard of food is so unbelievably high! Make sure you come here for dinner too

I have stayed at the Lion Wendlebury previously and have no complaint about it. Room is spacious and water pressure is good. Wonderful stay for visiting Bicester Village.

Very nice stay and good pub Room was large, clean and comfortable and extremely quiet too Parking was a plenty would definitely recommend to others

Hotel reception is in the pub, which is a little awkward on a Friday night with bags. We booked a superior room but was put in a very small superior room with a small box window which made it dark. The en-suite bathroom had a skylight window that was covered in bird poo and overlooked our privacy. We left out to eat elsewhere as we had missed the 9pm deadline in the pub for food. Arriving back to the room later that night, it had a sewage smell. The superior bed is 2 beds bolted together with separate mattresses so we kept rolling into the middle which felt like a hole. An uncomfortable night was had. Breakfast was lovely and everything was cooked well and tasted nice. We asked the young man at reception to change our room, he was very polite about it and sorted it out quickly. We changed rooms to another superior room which was over twice the size of the last superior we slept in. This room had large doors letting in a lot of light, it was airy, which is what we initially expected (as in photos displayed) on arrival. The beds were still uncomfortable with a gap and the pillows were very flat but it was ok. We were allowed to check out an hour later at 12pm as we requested. The cleanliness of the rooms differed from one to another. Our overall stay wasn’t anything to shout about, just ok. Most of the staff were polite and friendly, especially the manager on reception.

Lovely clean room. Very comfortable. Superb meal in the restaurant. Nice and quiet location.

Clean comfortable room, super king bed, good shower. No opening windows so patio door needs to be open with a restriction. Sunday roast was very good, a bit slow but 20 odd people showed up late & unexpected for a meal. Refurbished and modernised to a high standard.

We were travelling through so needed good food and a comfortable bed. Food was alright, but my steak was tough I didn't finish it. Lovely staff, food needs a few tweaks. No fresh fruit or yoghurt at breakfast.

Lovely hotel with lots of character. I found the bedroom a little warm as the radiators had been on but overall lovely

Just great location, service and food was also amazing

Excellent stay

Nice pub and great accommodation. CleN tidy and welcoming. Allyou need in the room.

Lovely hotel and pub

Lovely place, staff are so friendly & accommodating. Couple of tiny issues in the room and could maybe have done with a kettle. But the room itself was lovely.

Second time we have stayed from going to Bicester Village, lovely pub, food, staff and rooms are amazing all helpful had a misunderstanding with bill and was sorted straight away cannot say anything negative really welcoming

Excellent stay. Great food as well

Great place to stay with lovely pub restaurant attached

Had a wonderful stay!

Lovely stay, gorgeous meal and breakfast.

The food in The Lion was first class, and the service from Elisha and Mark. However the room had a few problems 1 the hot water was scolding instantly and no mixer , if any child opens the hot tap they woild have 3rd degree burns. 2 the coffee machine had no water chamber ( missing ) 3 there was no bulb in the table lamp Room was clean just not maintained regular in my opinion , ive been in the trades for 40 years so all the jobs would take an hour After saying that i would still stay there again for sure

The town of Wendlebury is not the nicest place, but the room was comfortable. Service for dinner and upon checkin was a bit hit and miss to be honest. We couldn't get water with dinner. Had to wait forever to order. But the morning staff was nice and breakfast was okay.

Room was overall very good but let down by shower drain blocked with hair etc. Bed was comfortable but the underblanket was stained. Staff were friendly and helpful although the waiting staff in the dining room should have been more attentive. Details meant as constructive criticisms. Overall very good and we would stay again.

Fabulous food, friendly staff and gorgeous cosy rooms. Loved it

Great location but the room needs general maintenance

Went to Bicester shopping Centre and needed somewhere to stay 10 minutes drive in a lovely local village pub, amazing room, tv, coffee machine, bathroom, clean and pub food gorgeous definitely stay again even though 1 fault (might be just us) mattress too soft but you can’t go wrong Fantastic

We only had a brief one night stay on our way to Devon but enjoyed every minute of it - we ate in the restaurant and both loved our meals , both the venison and the mushroom pie were excellent , the only downside was that was so comfortable and quiet in our room that we slept in and didn’t have time for breakfast. Next time for sure

This place is a gem! Exquisite decor, outstanding service, and a cozy atmosphere make it unforgettable. Perfect blend of luxury and charm. Highly recommend for a unique and delightful stay!

Check in was fast. The room allocated to me was easily accessible and very spacious. The plumbing system needs to be repaired. I found something floating in the wc when I first got into the room. Thought the housekeeping did not do a thorough job, but after I flushed the toilet, the floating objects kept reappearing. It was rather disgusting. The hotel has a pub and food was good, service was great too.

A great location. Very rural and quiet. The service was great, staff bubbly. Food was tremendous too. Definitely stay again.

Excellent stay good food and very comfortable

Friendly welcoming staff, delicious food and comfy room. No fault. Will be my go to when in the area.

This is a fine building which, in my opinion, shows lots of untapped potential. Overall the property was fine BUT: Furniture was sort of "chic" but some older pieces like our dressing table and the table we used in the dining room could be better in keeping if sanded down and painted. We were only offered various cooked breakfasts from the menu, whereas an included light cereals and toast- which is what we wanted - was not on a menu or originally offered. Evening meal was a bit pricey, we thought. Fish and chips was £16.95 and the cheapest and the desert was £7.95 . We thought a brief and lighter "Travellers Menu" whould have been an appropriate addition. Our room was quite big and pretty well equipped yet the dressing mirror with a small dressing table was parked in a dark corner and at a height where the lady only saw half of her face to put on make-up - this is a common issue we think.

Perfect pub/hotel! Will definitely stay again.

A one night stop to visit a relation. Great food although a bit more choice, ie fruit, on the breakfast menu would have been nice. Comfortable, quiet room and having our dog with us was not an issue. Would stay again.

The Lion is an excellent place to stay - great food and really nice rooms. The rooms have a really good level of equipment with a coffee maker etc. The restaurant was very good, really nice food and good service. Breakfast was very good - but not great for business travellers, as it doesn't start until 8am. Bringing this forward to 7.30am would make all the difference (but maybe not to those going to Bicester Village!) I would also really recommend adding a couple of electric car chargers - it would be easy to do just inside the gate, and would make a huge difference - it is one of the things I look for in all hotels nowadays.

Cosy pub, very happy with our stay. Food was a bit on the expensive side. But a great place to stay

We really enjoyed our stay at the lion. Location to Bicester was perfect. Room was exactly what we booked . Dinner was excellent … that burger was first class & the crumble was awesome. Class venue .

Very well provided fir in the rooms, thank yiu

Stay was ok......only one person taking orders for breakfast so had to wait a while. No remote for the tv.....manager said nothing he could do so no tv all weekend.

Beautiful building, friendly and welcoming staff

Really nice pub with nice rooms in a newly built outbuilding. The restaurant was very good with dinner and breakfast both being excellent. My only (very slight) issue is the build of the flooring in the new building is a little poor, being able to hear people moving up and down the stairs. That being said there aren’t many people moving around so not too bad Certainly will stay again.

Enjoyed our stay in a lovely, cozy room with access to the garden. Only complaint is the mattress could be upgraded as it was worn and springy. Otherwise it was a perfect stay and we loved the ambience and village feel.

A delightful place. A very spacious bedroom and bathroom. And a good choice of cooked breakfasts.

We stayed here for 3 nights for a birthday treat. It was wonderful. Everything from start to finish has made us want to come back. The pub/restaurant was lovely- friendly staff who go above and beyond. We ate here every night and our meals were fabulous. Breakfasts are great and set you up for the day. The locals were so kind and helpful and really made our stay. They gave us advice on places to visit and how to get there- including the brilliant bus service (S5 goes straight from Wendlebury to Oxford) Our room was beautiful. Spacious, comfortable and clean. Despite being so close to a duel carriageway we never heard it- the location is perfect for a quiet getaway, while being in close proximity to the beautiful Oxford and for those who love shopping- Bicester village.

A lovely place to stay. Where to check in is slightly confusing and could be better signposted. Friendly little cat wandering around site too. Only minor problem was nowhere to drop key off for an early check out. I had to leave my key in the room after searching for a Dropbox / letterbox for 10 minutes as had to leave before 7:30am. A suggestion would be somewhere to leave these. There was also not much direction on details in the room I.e. no breakfast menus or local information or anything surrounding check out. All minor and a lovely stay

Very clean and comfortable room. Excellent food. Friendly and hospitable staff.

Needed somwhere to stay near Oxford and this fitted the bill. Worked well and the food, especially the evening meal was excellent.

Wonderfully presented rooms. Good quality classical features but modern. Amazing walk in shower. I liked the toiletries and that they were full size with a polite request to leave them or they would be chargeable. Plenty of water and tea/coffee provided. Bed was a bit soft for me and sofa bed for the kids was quite small but adequate. It was a particularly hot day and we were on the ground floor, the only 'window' in the room was a door, leading to a pathway at the back of the beer garden. It was on a safety latch but I was concerned leaving it open during the night, so it was rather warm. I did not ask for a fan but it would be useful to know if one is available if needed. We had an evening meal & breakfast there and enjoyed both. Easy access to Bicester Village and road links but far enough away in a lovely quiet village. No problem parking at the hotel during our visit. I would definitely stay here again & recommend it.

Food and service was brilliant. All staff attentive and food very good. We were in a superior room on the ground. Very disappointed with this room, very tired looking in need of decoration and replacement of mouldy voile. Ventilation very poor, fan was provided but didn’t work properly, first night very uncomfortable. Cleanliness very poor, lots of dust and stains on surfaces. For our second night the fan was replaced and room serviced. Fan worked well, cleanliness still unsatisfactory though. In my opinion the cost of the accommodation was excessive and not value for money.

Beautiful hotel

Very pleasant quiet hotel located a short drive from the Bicester Village outlet.

Quiet location just minutes from Bicester village. Nice pub and restaurant on site.

Lovely hotel, staff extremely helpful. Bed very comfortable, powerful shower. Breakfast and Lunch delightful.

Our room was attractive and furnished to a high specification. Less keen on a la carte breakfast without a continental breakfast option.

Lovely pub and really nice large modern room

Beautiful hotel tastefully decorated with that “ye olde england” feel, heavenly comfy beds and polite courteous staff. A few broken lamp shades & broken tap but these are minor things.

We stopped there for a shopping trip to Bicester, which is very close, though not within walking distance. Great hospitality, lovely pub, on-site parking. We ate there and the food was really nice and hot. The room was a deluxe one which was very spacious. Clean, warm with a lovely big, comfy bed. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. More expensive than a hotel chain, but so much more cozy and characterful.

Was just passing through but wish we were staying for longer, great country Inn. Decorated to a high standard, would definitely recommend.

2nd stay at this pub and still enjoyable. Really good sized room and very nicely furnished. Pub is a good one with decent good choices with a good breakfast menu for an additional £10 which is pretty good value if not included in the room rate.

Beautiful location, we chose this place because we were going shopping to Bicester Village. We can recommend here if your going shopping as this place was only 2 miles away. The hotel was fabulous, food, staff and atmosphere added to a very enjoyable stay!

Beautiful hotel, we had a great stay.

Superb hotel and wonderful bistro, credit to the chef and the staff. Would be even better to have a small fridge in the room.

An excellent stay at the Lion. Good food, good service, very helpful staff. 5*

Beautiful, large clean room with coffee machine, hairdryer, iron, good sized wardrobe. Peaceful, pretty location, convenient for Bicester and Oxford. Amazing breakfast, we’ll stocked, comfortable and welcoming bar. With lots of outdoor seating. Would definitely recommend.

Such a lovely inn – looking forward to visiting again!

Staff very friendly- manager was great. Room modern, clean and quiet. Sausages at breakfast were 👌👌👌

What a hidden gem. Never ever leave reviews on my stays when working away from home but this place really good. Staff are great and ever so polite, cant do enough for you. Top class food aswell and a cracking pint of Stout

Really nice relaxing stay with partner. Staff were excellent and food was amazing!

The room was lovely but the service and the food was terrible.

The whole stay was amazing. The staff were friendly and always accommodating, we even made friends with the village cat. The pub is gorgeous and the room was perfect. Thank you.

Great place to stay, excellent staff great food nice room.I would stay here again if I’m working in the area.

This is an exceptional Inn. Beautifully appointed a lovely comfortable room. Great bathroom with really powerful shower. Some of the best food I have had in a long time.

It was far from luxury as advertised. We were not allowed to use the toilet in our room for the duration of our stay. We were told by the manager he could not move us as they were fully booked. The room needed painting and it looked dirty - curtains and stains on the carpet. The plumber could not fix the toilet and on our arrival we were told to use the pubs disabled toilet which flooded and had water everywhere and the door did not lock. One member is junior staff was very rude. We were promised by the manager our rooms would be heavily discounted for the inconvenience to see that we have been charged to full amount. We were supposed to be reimbursed for our dinner which had also not happened. It is disgraceful and I will never book again through Hotels.com or another Honeycomb House - it is nothing short off misspelling and I will go to trading standard should I not be completely compensated. We also gad no offer of a cooked breakfast as there was a problem with the gas supply to the kitchen and the managed quit during our stay.

Lovely place

excellent stay would stay again

Lovely dinner and great breakfast in a stone built pub. The room was clean, comfortable and spacious. Situated on a country lane in a small village on the edge of Ottmoor. Will definitely return when in the area.

Great room away from the main pub (in a purpose built out building) Fantastic evening meal and slept like a baby! Frustrating that there’s no baths in any of the rooms (despite it stating there were) but the manager on duty was very apologetic. Overall a lovely one night stay

Staff where so friendly and made you feel welcome from the minute we stepped through the door. Couldn’t fault the room, service or the food. Can’t wait to return

Lovely setting friendly staff and good service

Really welcoming and lovely staff Perfect little country escape Great location and would highly recommend

It is a lovely place to stay rooms very good but a little hot. Good very good there

We had a couple of issues to start with but the management handled these well and we left extremely happy with our stay. I would definitely recommend and we will be sure to go back in the future.

I received a call on Wednesday before our stay commenced on Friday to say there had been a case of Covid 19 at the pub and all the staff were isolating. However, luckily for us, they were still opening the accommodation. We arrived early but Tara was able to let us check in at 2pm rather than 3pm. The pub and restaurant was closed but Tom who had come from another hotel to run the Lion for the weekend made us really welcome, offering to bring drinks out to the terrace. Breakfast was fruit, toast, pastries and coffee. The rooms couldn't be cleaned during our 2 night stay but we were offered clean towels and toiletries. The room we had was lovely, if a little dark and also warm, but comfortable. There was a fan in the room. Coffee/tea making facilities, plenty of electric plug points. Plenty of parking spaces. We would definitely stay at the Lion again as the pub and food have been recommended. It was so much nicer than staying in a larger hotel. Tom's hospitality was fantastic, and made us feel at home, and we felt very safe. Thank you Tom.

Very lovely stay . Hotel was very clean food was superb and staff were friendly

Enjoyable stay highly recommended, few minor issues check in a little slow due to a number of customers arriving at the sometime, blinds missing from main room window as it overlooked the beer garden the curtains remained closed, staff friendly and helpful, restaurant good with prompt service, rooms clean and well equipped.

really nice one night stay - wish it was longer

Lovely place to stay. Excellent!

very expensive for what you get I have left feedback that the coffee/tea making facilities need to be improved

Stayed her a few times, would definitely recommend. Rooms are fantastic, food & drink in pub is excellent.

Really nice stay. Lovely staff and lovely roo

We arrived at 12pm as soon as the pub opened on a rainy day and decided to hunker down there until we could check in. We were greeted by a very friendly chap who sorted us a table, even without a booking. The waitress serving us was very good, and the food was delicious. As it got closer to the check in time, the man said he would check on our room, about 30 minutes before, which was impressive as we hadn't been forgotten. So far, really impressed. Sadly, it got to around 3.20pm and we still didn't have our room or any word from the man. So I asked a lady behind the bar. She promptly checked and the cleaner was in the area of our room, but not there yet. It wasn't until 4.20pm that the lady came back and checked us in. On the whole, not a huge thing, but we had been there for so long (our choice of course), I would have expected our room to have been the first priority. We were offered a free drink, just 5 minute before the room was ready, but we just wanted to get to the room. We splashed out for a superior room, which wasn't that cheap. The room was lovely, but for the price, and the time we had to wait, I was very disappointed to find it didn't come with breakfast. Overall, I would recommend this place to others, but there are just a couple of tweaks that could have lead to us having a much better experience.

Wonderful, beautiful room, worth the money.

Brilliant Stay - Friendly Staff - Comfy and clean rooms - would recommend.

Lovely place and food. 100%
