Una experiencia espectacular, incluso mejor de lo que esperaba. El hotel está lleno de detalles increíbles y se nota el cuidado que han puesto en cada espacio. Me encantó especialmente cómo todo se integra con las cuevas y el entorno; se siente auténtico y muy especial. El servicio fue excelente y la atención del personal impecable, siempre amables, atentos y cuidando cada detalle. El concepto, la arquitectura y el servicio hacen que sea un lugar con muchísima personalidad y encanto. ¡Muchas felicidades a todo el equipo por crear una experiencia tan bonita y memorable!

Lo único que realmente no me gustó fue que el área del WC no tenga puerta. Me resultó bastante incómodo, ya que no hay privacidad, y creo que es un detalle importante que deberían considerar mejorar. Fuera de eso, mi experiencia en el hotel fue excelente.

Really enjoyable stay at this unusual boutique hotel. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. We loved sleeping in a well-appointed spotless cave with excellent air con and comfortable bed. The hotel is in the Sassi amid centuries of history, rock churches and cave houses. This area could easily justify a 3 or 4 night stay. We stayed 8 nights and found new things to see and visit every day. The hotel has a spa with an indoor pool where guests have a complementary sauna steamroom session. It is clean and modern. Guests don't have general access to the pool. It would be even better if guests could use the pool to swim and if the pool were not quite so warm. We would thoroughly recommend the hotel and the Sassi in Matera.

Everything was amazing! A 5 stat treatment from the beginning until the end. I also brought my little dog and they were very kind and thoughtful about it.

Sicuramente la posizione, l’arredamento ed il design della stanza ben integrati nel contesto. Letto comodissimo, ampi spazi.Lo staff è molto gentile.. Sabrina (se non erro) alla reception davvero top!

Il design non sempre è funzionale. Fatta la doccia rimane tutto il pavimento bagnato e l’acqua non defluisce in maniera corretta. Ho trovato 1 capello sulla tazzina del caffè ed 1 su 1 dei 2 comodini.

L'espace spa (sauna hammam piscine) est accessible une seule fois pour le séjour et il faut réserver le créneau La chambre était superbe mais pas de porte entre les toilettes et la chambre Enfin on a pris un supplément pour effectuer 2 massages et les massages étaient vraiment très décevant pour un 5*, étant fans de massage dans de beaux établissements, nous avons trouvé ça bien en dessous des standards haut de gamme et beaucoup trop cher pour cette qualité

Great place to see Matera. The spa was a pleasant surprise and they allowed our teenage kids to enjoy it with us. The hotel was peaceful and the staff were extremely helpful.

Tutto fantastico. Staff eccezionale, ottima posizione. Suite emozionante! La spa, il cui primo accesso è compreso nel soggiorno, è davvero curata, pulita e molto accogliente. Da provare assolutamente il ristorante che sa coniugare i gusti della tradizione licana, con gli elementi della cucina moderna. Davvero soddisfacente.

What a magical hotel experience! Matera is about rent breathtaking and the hotel was perfectly positioned to experience the magic of this city. Our room was spacious and so beautiful. Very clean and chic for being in a cave. The spa experience was very lovely. It is a hot/cold contrast which was great after a long day of traveling. The staff was so lovely and helpful. They were very helpful with restaurant recommendations and navigating the city. I will absolutely be back and will recommend this hotel to everyone!

Aquatio Cave Luxury Hotel & Spa has incredible physical potential, a fantastic location, and lovely rooms, but severe gaps in customer service and spa operations drag down what should otherwise be a luxury 5-star experience. Booking, Arrival & Rooms The initial booking process was smooth, though the hotel does not hold quoted rates for more than a few days, causing our price to jump while we finalized international flights which was only 4 days. Upon arrival, the central location in the Sassi is wonderful, but drivers should be prepared: you must arrange offsite parking and take a shuttle. From the drop-off point, you have to haul your own luggage over cobblestones in the heat, which can be exhausting. The hotel itself is visually stunning. Check-in was seamless, communication via WhatsApp was easy, and the room was spacious, impeccably clean, and well-organized. Breakfast & Dining Service Breakfast offers a broad and plentiful selection with both buffet and à la carte options. However, service during peak hours was inconsistent, and getting prompt assistance for cooked-to-order items was often a challenge. The Spa Experience: A Major Disappointment The 1-hour spa access included with our stay was ruined by terrible service. The hotel front desk seemed completely disconnected from the spa operations—repeatedly telling us to call the spa from our room phone rather than helping us directly. Upon arriving at the spa: The spa receptionist was cold, unwelcoming, and didn't even offer a locker for our valuables until we asked. We were barely shown around and spent 20 minutes struggling with the hydrotherapy tubs, assuming we were doing something wrong—only to find out the receptionist had simply "forgotten" to turn the spa equipment on. The tea station water was lukewarm, and when I tried to book an extra service that the massage therapist was happy to provide, the receptionist’s rude attitude completely blocked it. While the physical spa space is gorgeous when fully functional, the staff attitude completely ruined the relaxation factor. Privacy Issues & Misguided Service Housekeeping and privacy were another issue. On our very first day, despite having the "Do Not Disturb" sign clearly displayed, staff knocked on our door twice. When we reported the spa issues and door interruptions to the front desk, they were apologetic and offered to leave a token gift in our room while we were out for dinner. When we returned at 11:00 PM to find nothing, we assumed they had forgotten and got ready for sleep. Then, at 11:20 PM, a staff member knocked on our door to deliver a bottle of Prosecco while I was already in bed. While we appreciated the attempt to make amends, delivering alcohol late at night to a room where guests are trying to sleep before a morning departure completely missed the mark. Overall Verdict A beautiful location and unique cave accommodations can only carry a hotel so far—customer service is everything. Aquatio has all the raw ingredients to be a true 5-star property, but until they fix their spa management, respect room privacy, and train their team in thoughtful service recovery, it lands firmly as a 3.5 to 4-star experience at best.

Incredible location, big beautiful rooms, it was so clean and the staff was so helpful! The location is magical. Right in the heart of the old town, it’s stunning.

I’d recommend you take a shuttle or taxi to the hotel. Taking our luggage down the stairs was quite the adventure.

Nice experience at the spa be sure to book in advance. Only drawback was our room through some wooden gates on the ground floor with very noisy air conditioning unit outside believe it was room 113. Im sure there are much nicer rooms.

This unique and centrally located property is a real gem! The welcoming and informative reception staff make you feel in the right place from the very beginning.

Beautiful, clean & really interesting hotel accommodations (cave-like). Our room was on a main “hangout spot” so noisy late into the night. Spa & Restaurant was amazing & memorable.

Parking & getting to hotel was difficult at best. It was not made clear upon booking.

The suite was beautiful - the setting could not get better. It’s one of those places you have to experience at least once. I wish we had stayed longer.

The Spa is doing the property a bit of an injustice. I mean this with all due respect but my massage therapist was run off her feet - I was not even escorted out the treatment room after the treatment before she was off to the next treatment. No wind down, no post massage relax with some tea … mainly because the rest of the spa is now overcrowded with people because of the “60 min free” offer the hotel gives all the customers. Great idea in theory but it’s just a circus. Nobody respects the rules there is just water all over the floor and it’s a slipper mess. This could be managed so much better. Luxury in its current state it is not. It’s a sausage factory pushing out volume. I was also unimpressed by the light fixture with exposed wiring in the pool that gave me way too much anxiety to hang around to find out if it was going to be a problem or not. The Spa should rise to the occasion to match the rest of the hotel for this place to be truly magical. That said the treatment was good - I just feel sorry for the overwhelmed staff.

The location is amazing. The hotel has access to the upper part of the city and to lower parts, so not a lot of climbing. The food at the restaurant was excellent. The rooms are beautiful. Staff is helpful. Rooms are big. View from upper rooms is breathtaking.

Just one hour spa access. Pillows are a bit tough. A bit noisy around midnight outside the room.

What an amazing hotel to stay at when visiting Mattera :) The hotel is situated in old caves which have been renovated for hotel use - and what a fantastic job they have done keeping the natural environment but adding a modern look. We stayed for 2 days whilst touring Puglia, from the moment we checked in till when we left, every element was enjoyable. All staff were friendly, professional and welcoming, thank you. The breakfast choice was plentiful and any food cooked to order was delicious. The rooms, we stayed in a double superior one, were impeccable. Clean and of a high standard. We had an area outside which overlooked Mattera - just fabulous. The spa pool/area we accessed for an hour - this does have to be booked as it is not a big space. There is nothing to complain about and we would definitely recommend this hotel. One thing to consider is arranging parking outside of Mattera prior to arriving. We did so and we dropped outside of the hotel by a private firm. This really is a beautiful part of Italy which so much history and stunning architecture- you do have to be physically fit due to the pathways, and it being hilly. Lots of bars and restaurants to choose from which offer a fabulous selection of food. One place called ‘Oh Mamma’ did the best artisan sandwich I have ever tasted!! UNESCO heritage site- it most definitely is.

If you’re looking for an extraordinary place to stay in Matera, I couldn’t recommend this hotel more highly. It exceeded all my expectations and made my visit even more memorable.

Matera is an extraordinary destination and an absolute must-visit. The ancient cave city is breathtaking both during the day and when beautifully illuminated at night, creating one of the most memorable places we’ve ever visited. Aquatio Cave Luxury Hotel & Spa is a unique place to stay and perfectly captures the character of this remarkable UNESCO World Heritage city. Check-in was warm and efficient, and the staff were friendly and welcoming throughout our stay. Our room was beautifully designed to retain the authentic feel of a traditional cave while offering all the modern comforts and amenities. Although the room was a little compact, it was spotless, well equipped and featured a lovely terrace with an incredible view across Matera. Breakfast was excellent, with a wide variety of fresh, high-quality options. The cave spa was another highlight, with its atmospheric pool, sauna and steam room providing the perfect place to relax after a day of exploring. There were a couple of areas where the experience could be improved. The air conditioning struggled to keep up during our stay when temperatures reached around 38°C. Also, while we completely understand that cars are not permitted within the historic centre, transporting luggage to and from the hotel was quite challenging over the uneven streets. A hotel-operated luggage shuttle, such as a small electric buggy or tuk-tuk, would be a fantastic addition and would make arrivals and departures much easier. Overall, Aquatio offers a memorable and authentic experience in one of Italy’s most fascinating cities. While there are a few areas that could be enhanced, the unique setting, beautiful spa and excellent location make it a hotel we’d happily recommend to anyone wanting to experience the magic of Matera.

מעולה! מבחר רב ומאוד טעים להפתעתנו שודרגנו לסויטה יפה וענקית.

מאחר ואין במלון ולא לידו אפשרות לחניית רכבנו והיה לנו קשה מאוד, להיסחב עם מזוודותינו מהחניון הכי קרוב למלון, במיוחד שיש בדרך קטעים עם מדרגות וירידות משמעותיות . לנו עובדה זו לא היתה ידוע וכשבררנו עם המלון נמסר לנו שאין להם שירות הסעה מהמלון ואליו. לדעתי, כדי שהמלון יקבל ציון יוצא מן הכלל, במודעתם בבוקינג, עליהם לפרסם לא רק שלא ניתן להגיע למלון ברכב של אורחי המלון, מומלץ להגיע מהחניה למלון במונית (ושאין להם הסעה עצמית)

A savoir : établissement non accessible avec sa voiture : parking et transfert à réserver (cout supplémentaire, transfert pas très chaleureux : il faut se débrouiller avec ses bagages. Dépose à 40 mètres de l'hotel avec des pavés et des marches). Mais situation géographique incroyable au coeur des Sassi. Petit déjeuner : il serait judicieux de prévoir les boissons (café), collations chaudes (omelettes, bacon, ....) notamment à disposition plutot que devoir commander (même si gratuit). Ce serait plus fluide.

The staff were amazing particularly Sabrina and Filomena who accommodated our last minute request for an additional night with an upgrade to both our rooms . The hotel and its spa facilities are amazing, a lovely place to stay , with great aesthetics and ambiance, in a prime location.

The hotel and the rooms were beautiful and in a great location. Breakfast was great. The staff very friendly and accommodating. We had a misunderstanding before arriving but the staff went above and beyond to rectify the situation and also gave us an upgrade.

A wonderful hotel in a unique location, a fantastic place to stay to experience the Sassi Matera especially by night when the wonder of the sassi is lit up to bring an even more unique view. Highly recommend this hotel.

Amazing stay at Aquatio Cave Luxury Hotel & Spa. We thought the rooms were beautifully designed, carved into the Sassi caves—luxurious, peaceful, and unique. The cave spa pool was a standout experience for our family; book your hour slot ahead of time. Staff were consistently friendly and professional, and the parking service with the partner car park made arrival easy. Highly recommend for a special Matera stay.

The hotel was truly amazing! The rooms were exquisitely renovated, with every detail thoughtfully designed. We especially loved the blend of historic charm and modern design. Having a private terrace and being able to access our room directly from the outside made the stay even more special. The staff was wonderful. They arranged a Tuk Tuk tour for us, which was a fantastic experience, and they were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We also loved the breakfast and thoroughly enjoyed the spa experience. Overall, it was a fantastic stay, and we would gladly return.

The location is right in the middle of the Sassi. Very luxurious rooms and design. You have to stay here if visiting Matera! Feels so special!

5/5 ⭐️ A Perfect Oasis in Matera! Our stay was absolutely spectacular. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel so welcomed and comfortable. The location is fantastic, making it easy to walk to great restaurants and key sights. Plus, the view of Matera from our bedroom window was completely breathtaking. It was a perfect little oasis from the heat. The breakfast was incredible. It featured a high-quality selection of cheeses, cured meat, salmon, fruits, and eggs made to order, all paired with proper Italian espresso served by friendly staff. The spa is also superb with ideal water temperatures. It needs to be booked in advance, which is completely understandable to ensure a relaxing experience. We highly recommend this hotel!

The only minor drawback is that the spa team takes a bit of time to confirm booking slots over email, though they are super friendly and welcoming in person.

Interesting location

We are a family of four so they made us take two rooms when we easily could have fit into one room. I pointed out that this was not exactly family friendly. They were able to comp our dinner though. The pool was cold and our 12 year old son couldn’t go in despite being very mature.

The room was Amazing,(suite)such a different experience. The staff were friendly and helpful. I had to ask for some milk and extra toiletries and were brought to the room immediately. Location was very good, there was a good selection of nice restaurants within 200m.

Very disappointing experience for a hotel that claims to be 5-star. From the very first phone call, the staff had difficulty understanding and speaking English, both at the reception and at the spa, which is unacceptable for a hotel of this category. The pool is visibly worn out, the spa was not clean, and the changing rooms are very small. On top of that, the staff was often rude and unprofessional. Overall, the experience was far below expectations. I would not recommend this hotel.

This is a totally unique hotel. The staff were fantastic and the spa was just wonderful. The hotel is just off a street with outside bars and restaurants, great atmosphere.

Parking is a bit of an issue, we parked in the place the hotel recommended and taxied to the hotel. To be fair this all went without a hitch.
