Great location to base yourself and walk around York. Lots of restaurants and pubs nearby to choose for a meal and lots of nearby shops.

If arriving by car be prepared for some tight parking and possible shuffling of cars to get in and out but the host happily sorted our parking so we could get out when we planned to leave.

The room was beautiful, bed was very comfortable and the location was excellent. Mark (the host) was lovely, very friendly and nothing was too much trouble.

The location was excellent, just a couple of minutes walk from the Minster. The room was a good size and was clean and comfortable. Our host, Mark, was friendly and helpful.

It was 2 floor without lift

The Hotel is in a very good location to get quickly to everything in York by walking. The Rooms are nice and big, and very clean aswell. The owner is a very nice and lovely Person, he can give you very good recommendations what to do in and around york and is open for some nice little chats!! Pub recommendations were spot on!

No breakfast, but a small local Tesco next door. Location was great, easy to get about. Room was ok, had everything we needed and for what we paid with the great location, I really can't complain. I would stay again. Helpful owners. Very small area for free parking - bonus!

The location was splendid - less than two minutes' walk from the restaurant that we had booked for dinner - and having free parking so close to the centre of the City was hugely advantageous. The owner, Mark, was very friendly and extremely helpful.

Because of the location, it was quite noisy in our room (which faced onto Gillygate), but the owners couldn't really do anything about the noise without moving the hotel! Some aspects of the room were a little dated and the pillows were very flimsy.

Struttura comoda perchè molto vicina al centro di York (York minister è a pochi passi). Il punto forte è il parcheggio interno. I proprietari sono molto gentili.

Le camere sono un po' datate, tendaggi e mobili sarebbero da sostituire. Da migliorare la pulizia della stanza e delle scale che portano in camera.

Carpark. Rang guest house after booking to enquire about parking, was told no need to book because parking was plentiful. After I parked car on Sunday there wasn't any room left to manoeuvre and park another car . So a total of One car in car park. Very poor

We were able to park our car in the tiny car park close to the property at no extra cost. This was much appreciated as parking in York is at a premium and very costly.

The room was very hot but this was understandable given the very high temperatures. The hosts did what they could with fans. It was also a bit noisy from the traffic in this central part of York.

Convenient location near York Minster and great for accessing the City of York. Room 7 is a comfortable room on the ground floor with good king size bed, lovely towels and modern bathroom with large shower. Parking was available at the back of the guest house. Mark is a very helpful and friendly host. Would stay there again.

For those with mobility needs just to be aware there are a few steps up to the guest house.

Great location and friendly helpful staff. I arrived at 11am and asked to drop off a bag, but I was able to check in early so that was really appreciated. It's close to everything, road can be a bit noisy at times but that's to be expected being so close to the centre, but there was no noise from other rooms. The room was clean, comfortable and spacious with a sofa. Had multiple fans as I stayed during a heatwave. I especially liked the hand lotion in the bathroom and the smart TV so I was able to watch netflix, which is still quite rare for hotels. Overall a great stay and would recommend.

There was a bit of road noise, and a bit of noise after kick out of the pub opposite. But it was quiet enough to sleep later so not a huge issue.

La ubicación

No me gustó que no me hicieran la cama, solo estiraron el edredón por encima. Tampoco me gustó el olor a humedad incrustado en una moqueta oscura y vieja que es muy desagradable. Por último, hacía mucho calor y el ventilador no funcionaba bien.

La simpatia e disponibilità del gestore che, nonostante i due piani a piedi, ci ha aiutato a portare su i bagagli. La possibilità di parcheggio proprio a ridosso del centro storico. La posizione eccezionale a due passi dalla cattedrale. Alloggio pulito e silenzioso

L'hôte Mark est très gentil. Chambre confortable, très bon emplacement à proximité immédiate du centre-ville.

I know York is an expensive City but we didn't think the property was value for money paying over £200 for one night. Bedroom was adequate but nothing special and there was no breakfast offered. Friendly guy who met us on arrival and parked up for us as it was very cramped parking.

No breakfast included considering price.

This was a good value stay in a great location with parking. Only a couple of minutes from the city walls. Mark was friendly and helpful, letting us park early and even had our room ready early too. The room was comfortable and clean with tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits. No disturbance from other guests.

Our room was above the road and we aren't used to the noise.

The location was great, very close to the Minster. The room was large and the bed was very comfortable. The owner was friendly and very welcoming 😊

The decor was dated and although it was generally clean, sink, toilet etc, it hadn't had a proper clean, woodwork, door and fittings in bathroom were dusty, corners of shower cubicle dirty and towels stained unfortunately 😔

Le parking est pour 3 véhicules, ce qui est parfait si l'on fait abstraction de la complexité pour s'y garer. Le problème est que l'ordre d'arrivée ne correspond pas forcément à l'ordre des départs. C'est encore plus difficile lorsque le propriétaire ne vit pas sur place et qu'il faut dans un premier temps lui téléphoner pour qu'il sache que l'on désire prendre la route, puis aller frapper à la porte que l'on suppose être la chambre du propriétaire de la voiture qui vous empêche de partir. Dommage que pour ce prix il n'y ait pas de petit déjeuner.

We had a wonderful stay at Gillygate Guest House. Mark was friendly, welcoming and attentive from the moment we arrived. He was very helpful with the parking arrangements and made us feel at home. The room was spacious, comfortable and very clean, making it a great base for exploring York. The location is excellent, just a short walk from the city centre while still being in a quiet area. We would happily stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting York.

Parking is difficult it was very tight you need to be a confident driver to get in the small space. The guest house is on a busy street if you are at the front it can be very noisy and the windows could do with extra glazing. The shower wasn't great the cold water went off.

The bedroom was on the first floor

The room was very clean and in a position perfect to get to the center of York and all the shops and restaurants, we would definitely stay there again and definitely recommend it for value so close to the center.

Handy for the centre and buses

The host was very helpful. The location is amazing. The room was secure and comfortable and perfectly adequate and a good size. Good value for a central location.

Unfortunately the TV didn't work properly, and the remote control was taped together. It is perfectly adequate, just a bit dusty in places with fairly tired old furniture.

The owner was a gem and fulfilled a special request above and beyond, provided maps and directions to points of interest and helped us with bags. The room was amazing (the sink threw us for a loop but was overall charming) Great amenities, the bed was comfy and cozy, without much squeeking

The host was patient on the phone when we checked in. He left the code for us to go straight to our room. We had parking.

The room was dated, and there were some visible cob webs. The tv was in an awkward position, although we only watched it shortly. The bed mattress was old and too springy.

Great location with a very short walk to centre, staff were very friendly and accommodating. We arrived on a motorbike and was grateful that we could store our gear after we had checked out so we could fit in a bit more sightseeing.

Very little we didn't like, but it was a shame the curtain was not thicker to block out more light which would have helped sleeping.

Perfect location and the owner was so helpful with tips about York. We really loved our stay.

Chambre au 2ème étage sans ascenseur. Chambre vieillotte et mauvaises odeurs. Pas de petit déjeuner proposé. Très mauvaise isolation phonique et thermique.La chambre est sur une rue très passante. Personne pour le check out. Nous avons laissé les clés sur une console dans l'entrée.

Die sehr zentrale Lage war sehr praktisch, wir haben uns auch über den Parkplatz gefreut, obwohl er klein war.

Wir hatten Fenster zur Hauptstraße und es war etwas laut. Wir konnten die Zimmertempetatur nicht regulieren, es war uns zu warm.
