The Cumberland Hotel

Paid for the shared balcony room. . Lovely views and sunrise and sunset.

The room was smaller than the last balcony room booked. The TV didn’t work. No network message. The bed is very, very firm. The wash basin didn’t drain and could easily over flow if not watching it. Had better rooms at this hotel.

Dining room was a light, large room with sea view. Bedroom had sea view too overlooking Band Stand and pier. Also enjoyed the bar and conservatory areas.

Key to bedroom seemed to stick in lock but it might have been my fault for not having the knack of opening it.

Staff are friendly, room was clean, the bed was fairly comfortable. They provided a fan which great for warm weather.

The floor was creaky. Even on the top floor from us we could hear the creaky floor when someone walk.

Room over looking the bins .bed very uncomfortable,shower poor had to redo the shower curtains,when you put the shower on the water went all over to the toilet. There was a big rip in the curtains,This was a present for our anniversary,I wouldn't recommend this hotel .

The check in time on paperwork I had did not match what reception told us when we arrived. Paperwork said 2pm, reception said 3pm. Not enough hooks to hang towels in bathroom or to hang clothes in room.

As a solo woman traveller felt completely safe and secure. The room was small but completely functional, spotlessly clean. The sea view didn't disappoint. Would highly recommend and will definitely be returning. Breakfast was satisfying with lots of choice.

Lovely location, right on the sea front with very easy parking on the street outside the hotel. (The parking permit was very good value for money). The rooms were very spacious, clean and comfortable. Only a few minutes walk into the town which has an abundance of amenities.

The hotel is nice enough,. It provides good beds, coffee, tea and biscuits are available in the room. The location is excellent and the staff are professionals. The tall young man working at the bar was particularly friendly and put us at ease. If you like English breakfast or you would like to have this experience, the hotel offers a very good one. My bedroom for 3 people was quite large and confortable.

The hotel is not barrier free, the tiny bathroom has the shower in the bathtub and the elevators are small. It might be a problem for a person with certain desabilities. It is very dated, and one of the wardrobes smelled dusty. The cleaning could also have been better and more consistent, although it was not that bad. Little changes and improvements could make a big difference. For instance, there is no place to hang the hand towel in the bathroom. It could be easily sorted out installing a wall hook at the door. The same for the "Do Not Disturb" sign, which had no place to be hanged at the door. The shower curtain yellowed over time and it wouldn`t cost much to replace it.

The location was excellent, as just across from the sea. The buffet breakfast was very enjoyable, & the food was of a good quality , & a gd selection was available. We were given a side sea room, which was a pleasant surprise, as wasn't expected, meaning we could enjoy the fireworks from the window.

We felt something at the window, as well as the Curtains, would have been useful, to help with privacy, as there were accommodations, & a Hotel opposite.

The visit was marred by the room. All very difficult in these high temperatures but it was particularly bad on the 4th floor with small windows and no fan provided. The king size bed was fine but there was no bedside table/stand which should be standard in such a room. The shower over the bath was poorly located and had a pathetic plastic shower head which was set at such a low height. Could do better as the room was not vfm.

Spotlessly clean, recently redecorated, everything in the room worked, food good, staff delightful and the bar was open 24 hrs.

Nothing really, location is opposite the famous Bandstand so it’s pretty central for local attractions.

An excellent stay at the Cumberland Hotel , all the staff are courteous and helpful , no request is too much trouble . We had a super room overlooking the promenade and bandstand. We stayed last year and note all the changes and improvements being made by the new management team. Thank you for a lovely stay in Eastbourne.

I was given better room than I booked and paid for - staff were really helpful - old fashioned charm - brilliant location - good close street parking. Meals we took as requested were really good and great prices.

The disabled entrance was through the basement and laundry area - it could have been a bit better looking - but at least it was there !! and I could take my walker in without stairs.

The Staff were welcoming, helpful & polite. The breakfast menu was amazing (although we did not have it) The Bar was great, relaxing & Happy Hour even better. A Lift to all floors, Wheelchair/Pram entrance available. Huge bed, white cotton bedding. Tea & Coffee, fresh milk if requested. Evening entertainment some nights, was very enjoyable. Wonderful Sea view which was a Great way to start the day. Dog friendly. Lovely seating areas, Lounge, Bar, Breakfast & Dinner hall, Balcony and more. Bandstand, Buses and Dotto Road Train all on the doorstep.

Even though we had a Fan, room was very warm, only one window could be opened. This heatwave didn't help. Toilet to near to the bath, and bath to short.

Perfect blend of style and comfort. The rooms are light, contemporary, immaculate and designed with guest comfort in mind. They have thought of everything for traveller convenience, including a fan, wall hairdryer, luggage holder, and plenty of hooks, sockets and hangers. The restaurant is elegant. Breakfast was delicious with quality cooked and uncooked options. Dinner was delicious, filling and beautifully presented. The restaurant team was incredibly approachable and ensured our dining experience was wonderful! Highly recommended.

Room was at the side / rear of the hotel facing north-east; this turned out to be a bonus as a seafront-facing room could have been a little noisy. The bedroom and bathroom were well-furnished and comfortable. The breakfast was very good - a good choice of hot- and cold dishes and the dining room faced the sea. The staff were very helpful and accommodating. The hotel was 10-15 minutes' walk from the railway station, via the town centre, and right outside was a stop for the 'ESS' sightseeing bus. Perfect.

The staff couldn't have been more helpful. The cumberland is such a lovely listed building to stay in. The bandstand is just across the road which was helpful as we were with our elderly mum. Reception called taxi's for us when needed. It's become our favourite place to stay when we visit Eastbourne. Nothing was too much trouble for the lovely staff.

The only minor detail was the breakfast was good value for money but I would pay a little extra for more fruit in the morning. Everything else cooked breakfast, coffee etc. Was cooked just how we like it.

Breakfast was great👍 missed my mushrooms though. Room was fabulous. Reception lady amazing💖 great front of house skills, smiley, accommodating and just nice. In fact every one was smiley and friendly.

Honestly my carbonara was dry, I like it a bit more saucy, but that’s probably a preference thing🤷‍♀️ truly loathe to write anything negative, when we’ve had such a positive experience.

Random charges for same drinks from the bar . Astro turf on balcony needed hoovering , feathers and pieces of paper scattered on it and tables had bird poo on them . Not nice putting your coffee or drinks on them . Just a quick check before people were staying would be helpful . Also fans should be available especially if your room has no windows to open .

Lovely staff who kindly accommodated my request for an earlier check-in, allowing us to check in about an hour or so early, which I really appreciated. However, for the price charged, I was disappointed with the overall quality. The smell throughout the building was absolutely horrendous and very noticeable. The hotel would really benefit from some refurbishment, perhaps new carpeting, as the smell significantly affected our experience. Another important issue was the heat in the room. For someone with a disability, particularly breathing difficulties, having only one small fan was simply not enough, and the room was far too hot to sleep comfortably. One of the main reasons we went to the seaside was to escape the London heat, so this was particularly disappointing. I have been visiting Eastbourne for years and have stayed in most of the hotels there, so I feel I can fairly compare the price and quality. In my experience, the same standard can be found in hotels charging around £80 per night, which makes the price we paid difficult to justify. That said, the staff were genuinely lovely and accommodating, and I thank them for that.

Sehr nettes Personal, sehr sauberes Hotel, wirklich gutes britisches Frühstücksangebot, nur eine Straße trennt Hotel und Strand, Bushaltestelle (jump on jump off) direkt vor der Tür, Bahnhof fußläufig erreichbar.

Wirklich sehr altes Bett und ein sehr altes Bad, der Boden hat sehr laut gequietscht. Es gibt mit Sicherheit modernere Zimmer im Hotel. Unseres war schon grenzwertig zur Reklamation/ Stornierung.

Excellent location on the seafront. The hotel was peaceful and quiet. There was a nice selection of foods at the breakfast buffet.

The single room had a weak shower. There were blinds rather than curtains that didn't keep the early morning sun out. Having a fan or air conditioning in the room would have been good.

Management and staff go out of there way to make you feel welcome. The upgrade to the hotel is well under way. Ypu must visit the resturant during your stay.

Bathroom was very squashed. Nowhere to keep toiletries as no shelf. I would not leave my toothbrush in there as it was unhygienic. No mirror in the bedroom at all. Not even a small one. Drying my hair was very difficult and checking my clothing attire was impossible. Only one double socket plug which was mainly for the kettle and TV. Always seemed to be unplugging one thing for something else. Kettle lid broken This hotel was chosen purely for the shared balcony. Toilet broke on the morning we left.

Excellent location, clean and quiet room, good value for money, staff were helpful and we could leave our bags in the storeroom on our day of departure as we stayed in Eastbourne until late afternoon. Will check the Cumberland as my first choice when booking again.

My room was well fitted out and had a lovely un-interrupted view of the sea. I visited the hotel during a hot spell and was thankful that my room was provided with a fan to cool the room - this made a big difference to my comfort. The hotel as a whole is well looked after. The hotel is in a prime position on the seafront with easy access to the amenities of Eastbourne.

When we arrived we didn’t have our 2 booked rooms on the same floor although this was requested if possible when be booked many months prior. The lift - there is just one, it is slow, small and seems to have a bit of a life of its own.

I like most things about this hotel. I have stayed several times before. The location suits my needs and it has frie days staff. Reasonably priced

After booking a room, I asked if there was a chance to have one with sea view, even if I thought the hotel was busy. The lady moved us to room with a side view of the sea. When we reached. we have been upgraded to sea view with a balcony as well. We were very happy, felt welcomed and enjoyed the balcony. Staff was very lovely and friendly, both the receptionist who checked us in/out and staff in the restaurant. We had a very nice chat with the man in charge on Saturday night at the restaurant who also helped us with the car park for Sunday. We would definitely go again.

Bed was uncomfortable. Constant sound of banging doors when trying to sleep when a simple notice to guests would maybe help to not disturb people. We booked breakfast but we only had small appetites, because we had attended a wedding the previous day, so only had the fruit & coffee and charged £12 each.

No hairdryer in the room as stated in the description. When I asked for one it took 30 minutes and the manager just let himself in to my room without even knocking. When I asked him what he was doing he said he was delivering a hairdryer but didn’t have one with him. He said he thought the room was unoccupied and it had been a long shift!

It was clean, affordable and on the seafront opposite the bandstand.

Room can be quite hot. Not sure if they offer fans for the summer.
