Reviewed Sep 17, 2026I recently stayed at Evergreen Manor Spa Guest Lodge in Stellenbosch and had a thoroughly positive experience that I would confidently recommend, particularly for parents visiting student children at the university.
The location was ideal for our purposes. It is situated in the historic core of Stellenbosch, within easy walking distance of the university area and student hostels. This made it simple and convenient for me to stay close to my daughter without the need for constant driving or long transfers. The peaceful residential setting still offers quick access to the town centre, restaurants, botanical gardens, and other amenities, striking a good balance between quiet and convenience.
We stayed in a family unit with two separate rooms. This arrangement worked exceptionally well for a father and student daughter. It provided the privacy my daughter values while still allowing us to share the stay comfortably. The rooms themselves reflected the property’s character - a 1904 Victorian-style manor with period furnishings, high ceilings, and a sense of old-world charm combined with modern necessities such as air-conditioning, en-suite facilities, and the expected comforts. The space felt clean, well-maintained, and welcoming.
Clayton at reception deserves special mention. He was consistently friendly, professional, and clear in his explanations of the facilities, house rules, and local information. His approach set a positive tone from the moment of arrival and made the check-in process smooth and reassuring. Attentive and helpful without being intrusive, and genuinely invested in making visitors feel at home.
Breakfast was enjoyable and well-presented, the grounds and pool area offered a pleasant place to relax, and the overall atmosphere of the guest house felt calm and well-run.

The location, had to upgrade room old pictures on site. We were disturbed during our sleep with someone showing off a car at 2 in the morning. Old bedding. Cheap toilet paper 2 hand soap bars counts as toiletries. Buffet was booked for evening we arrived on time there were 2 plates of Boboti and chicken with vegetables. We requested bacon and eggs that was our supper. No full English breakfast.

The reception staff are not very friendly.
Shower in family room bathroom was not great - shower head is blocked and warm water limited.

Donkin House ligt aan de hoofdweg, dus gemakkelijk te vinden. Ontvangst was zeer vriendelijk. In- en uitchecken gaat gemakkelijk en snel. Parkeren is veilig achter een hek. De kamers liggen vooral aan de achterkant en daar is geen last van verkeersdrukte. De kamers zijn ruim , schoon en van alle gemakken voorzien. Wij hadden zelfs een kitchenette. De bedden zijn goed. Wifi is uitstekend. Het ontbijt en avondeten is in buffervorm en smaakt heerlijk.
Kan niets bedenken.

The room was very clean and spacious, but, to me, it was not aesthetic at all. The water pressure was also quite low to the extent that I could not wash my hair as a result.

Unfortunately, the room that we were placed in had the outlets for the Airconditioning units of our row of rooms outside our room and although our aircon was turned off at night the noise from those units left running sounded like we were in an industrial refrigerator with a jet engine over our heads all night so not a lot of sleep was had!!!
It was a perfect location for our trip down to Cape Town. The host/owner was friendly and welcoming, and even allowed us a quick after hours evening swim, which after a long day of driving was lovely. We had a good dinner on the premises as well.
Its a good stop when driving long distances. We left some items and the owner called to let us know we left some things. We also checked in late and there were no issues at all

Reviewed Dec 29, 2025Fantastic place for a stop over in Beaufort West! Safe and secure parking with enough space for our venter trailer! Super friendly and welcoming reception that had us checked in under 5 minutes and lovely spacious rooms with a Smart TV so that I could enjoy my own Netflix even though I was far from home! The on-site restaurant was fabulous and we enjoyed our flavourful Karoo-style Dinners and super hearty breakfast! Thank you so much to Amanda, Mariaan, Wihan and Tanelle for making our stay so amazing and we look forward to staying with you again in the future!
