Location, location, location. Room size and comfort (inc. bed comfort). Sea view. Facilities inc. free sweets. Cleanliness (though a couple stained towels - we got fresh ones). Windows actually opening (inc. in bathroom). Friendly staff, but not OTT. Choice of breakfast food. Overall much better value (and more modern) than other (bigger) Sidmouth seafront hotels.

Shower dropped down whatever you did, so not good for someone who's 6ft 6. Great that Duke's have parking, but would be even better to be able to reserve a space (even if paid for). Bathroom door needed some effort each time to open. Stool was as high as the desk so couldn't be used with it.

Room was tiny, mattress was sloping one side, desperately need room fan as so hot and if have window open with curtains open the outside lights are on all night and shine in, bathroom was literally a cupboard with tiny shower cubicle. Only body wash supplied no shampoo or conditioner. No parking available. Melon at breakfast was dry.

Staff were incredibly helpful and accommodating, allowing me to store luggage in the room ahead of check-in and helping me find room to get ready ahead of a wedding that evening! Location couldn't be more central, lovely seafront location, and comfortable bar and restaurant area downstairs. I didn't eat here but menu looked good and great bar service. Room was beautiful; lovely decor, very comfortable, and a welcome surprise to find a small kitchenette as well, with great coffee! Very comfortable bed, great night's sleep, decent and quiet aircon. Honestly, I couldn't fault my stay here. Thank you for a wonderful welcome, great stay, and to manager and staff on 5th September for going above and beyond for me!

No issues at all

We loved the location right on the seafront. We had a wonderful 2nd floor room which gave us a lovely view of the sea and was extremely spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was very tasty with buffet and hot food cooked to order. We also had two evening meals during our stay. Welcoming friendly staff. A great place to stay.

Limited parking is available which we were lucky to get. There is other off street parking and car parks nearby.

The room was absolutely fantastic, giving us so much space for us and our little one. Plus a sea view and it was surprisngly quiet consdiering it was above the bar. We had a great dinner at the pub and breakfast the next morning was great too. Spaces were limited, but we were able to park just outside the pub which was helpful. We were really well accomodated for with the cot and paid for a late check out so we could work our plans around our baby's naps.

The only thing to was that our key card stopped working after normal check out time and wouldn't reset, so we had to use the manager's card to get back into our room. Not a big deal though as the staff sorted it quickly.

Sehr gute Lage und freundliches Personal. Es gibt alles im Haus was man so braucht. Essen im Restaurant war ok, aber nicht mehr. Für eine feine Küche hat es noch viel Luft nach oben. Zimmer Nr. 3 ist hell und hat gute Aussicht. Gratisparkplatz direkt vor dem Haus war super.

Das Haus ist altersbedingt recht ringhörig. Das Zimmer Nr. 3 sollte mal richtig entstaubt werden.

The staff were great, very welcoming and helpful. The rooms were clean and the views were excellent. The food and drinks were great. One gentleman who welcomed us and was pretty much there all the time was brilliant, unfortunately I did not catch his name.

Only small drawbacks, no shampoo and conditioner in the shower. Only bodywash. Not enough parking for the property, could do with being bigger for larger cars.

De kamer was heel klein, de badkamer was extreem klein. In verhouding vond ik de prijs voor een nacht aan de hoge kant.

Beautiful clean room you have a lovely sea view and you can fall asleep to the waves crashing on the shore the staff were friendly also a plus is they have a sweet bar on the landing where you can help yourself to sweets like strawberry bon bons things like that

Great location on the Esplanade. Helpful and efficent staff. Lovely food in the restaurant. Cosy bar. Nice atmosphere and I liked the environment. Not disturbed by any noise and slept well in a very comfortable bed. I would happily stay at this hotel again.

Curtains left open and window closed in a room that gets the sun during the hottest part of the day. The fan was also off and unplugged. As a consequence the room was sauna like when I checked in. Wir hatten ein sehr schönes und großes Zimmer mit Blick auf das Meer aus einem historischen halbrunden Fenster. Es war alles sehr großzügig und geschmackvoll eingerichtet. Im Erdgeschoss gibt es ein tolles Restaurant, das zum längeren Verweilen einlädt. Auch das Frühstücksbuffett war sehr reichhaltig.

De locatie is super aan de boulevard. We hadden geluk dat we nog een gratis parkeerplek naast het hotel konden bemachtigen, scheelt toch weer. De kamers zijn niet super groot maar voor een nacht of wat prima. We hebben hier ook heerlijk gedineerd, was echt super lekker.

Bed lag voor geen meter aan mijn kant. Was de hele nacht bang eruit te rollen. Het ontbijt. Viel wat tegen. De eieren waren lauw en het Engels ontbijt bijna een belediging qua portie. Zou er slapen maar ergens anders ontbijten.

Our bedroom overlooked the sea front and despite the room being above the outdoor seating area, we did not experience any noise from the pub patrons. The room itself was extremely spacious and a great view out to sea. We ate in the restaurant downstairs and we also opted for the breakfasts in the mornings. Great choice of food in the menu, we had the fish pie which was delicious. I was also impressed with the morning breakfasts, a great choice from continental breakfast of cereals, yoghurts, croissants and toast, fruit, to ordering a full English breakfast. Staff were also amazing, throughout our stay. Sidmouth itself is gorgeous and I would also recommend a visit to the nearby donkey sanctuary. A great place for families and a very wholesome experience meeting so many beautiful donkeys.

We had a "compact" room with a sea view and it mostly suited our needs. The vast majority of the staff were efficient and friendly. The breakfast was copious with a wide variety of food. The power shower was excellent.

The bathroom sink is not really fit for purpose, as it is tiny. The one in my motorhome is much bigger ! The bearded barman was not at all friendly and he repeatedly threw empty bottles into a bin with such force that the noise was literally shocking. The management should have a word with him. There are only six parking spaces, so the car stayed put for the three days we were there. It is not possible to reserve a parking space, so first come, first served.

The location was perfect and the pick ‘n’ mix was a nice touch. The room service girls were great and the breakfasts were lovely with good portions. Hotel staff on the whole were very pleasant and helpful.

The inn and location were amazing! The inn is literally located on the seafront and had amazing views out over the beach. The room was very spacious and the staff were incredibly accommodating and friendly.

There was no A/C so it was warm in the room (caveating that we visited during a heatwave in August).

Eine der besten Unterkünfte auf meinem Coast Path Trip. Wie gebucht, hatte ich das Einzelzimmer mit Meerblick bekommen. Das Zimmer ist zwar nicht sehr groß, aber so durchdacht, dass für alles Platz ist und es nicht zu gequetscht aussieht. Die Einrichtung ist sehr ruhig und geschmackvoll. Das Bett war sehr bequem und beim Liegen konnte man direkt auf die Promenade und das Meer schauen. Ich habe den Ausblick sehr genossen! Man muss nur bedenken, dass unter dem Zimmer direkt der Biergarten des Restaurants ist und es bis ca. 22 Uhr noch etwas lauter sein kann. Mich hat es aber nicht gestört. Das Bad ist auch nicht groß, aber da wurde an alles gedacht und jede Ecke ausgenutzt, sodass es sehr praktisch und bequem ist. Das Frühstück war auch super und das Personal zu jederzeit sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Abends habe ich auch im Restaurant gegessen. Ich hatte eine Chowder und fand es sehr lecker.

The en-suite bathroom was far too small. You could not even wash your face in the basin as it was only large enough for hand washing. The bathroom was also not adequately cleaned.

Really good location and service

Lovely spacious room with a bay window overlooking the sea and shops. Super bathroom with an excellent shower. The location couldn’t be better, just a few steps from the beach. Breakfast was especially good and plentiful. We had a very good dinner there as well. It is a bit on the pricey side but popular with locals as well as visitors. I would advise booking if you want to eat there in the evening.

TV reception is very poor. No subtitles that we could find. Very important if you are hard of hearing like me. Free Wi-Fi available but it is quite weak.

A bit outdated interior and furniture.

The room was boiling hot. No fan available. The smell from the kitchen below filled our room. The room (number 7) also looked out over the back and the bin lorries were emptying the bins for the best part of an hour at 6am! When we tried to speak to the manager and just explain these points he wasn’t even interested in listening to us and in fact was very rude! Not good value for money! Very noisy from the streets below, smells from the kicthen (fried food) and didn’t feel very clean. Felt more like a pub stay rather than a hotel which it was advertised as.

The inn itself and location in the town were both great. Breakfast was wonderful, too!

Air conditioning would have been helpful, but without it a fan was necessary during the heat wave we experienced. The staff were kind enough to lend us the fan from their kitchen, but it was insufficient for such a small room. Additionally, it would be nice to have information on taxis and their quirky schedules easily accessible in the rooms.

We were two friends walking the coastal path and we had two single rooms. The rooms were small but perfectly adequate - they were clean with comfortable beds and had everything you needed. The food was great - both dinner and a lovely breakfast included in the price. But what made our stay exceptional was the fantastic attitude of all the staff, but particularly the manager. He couldn't do enough to help. Outstanding hospitality - we really appreciated it.

Staff was extremely nice. We arrived just a few minutes before the kitchen closed. They took our food orders first, then checked us in. They took little details (including candies, etc) were appreciated. Breakfast was exceptional.

Difficulty following instructions to the hotel. Lack of free car parking space was a problem. The major negative was when we arrived at the bar in the Dukes round 10pm. We were advised it was last orders and told to go next door to the hotel in the same chain to get drinks until 11pm. There was nobody serving at reception or in the bar at that hotel despite ringing both bells and calling out and wandering around to find someone. We left after 10 minutes. Once back in the Dukes reported it and the staff there took this very seriously and passed our complaint on to the manager. I am absolutely disgusted with the second hotel and did not expect that sort of treatment. We had no intention of going in the sea anyway but understand pollution is a problem.

Staff were exceptional and could not have been more friendly and helpful. Food was superb. Whole atmosphere was young and lively - much better than the stuffy big hotels up the road which we visited once for drinks.

Duke’s is in such a great location, right beside the beach and with sea views. The staff were so friendly and accommodating. We visited a few years ago for dinner (from Australia), and this time we stayed for 3 nights and loved it.

Het was in die bloedhete periode eind juni '26. De kamer was helemaal in de top, 38 graden in de kamer. Ik kreeg de ramen niet open, leek op slot. Ventilator gekregen en de ramen open gemaakt, géén uitleg buiten nestelden meeuwen dus heel veel vogelpoep aan beide kanten. De douche deed het niet goed gaf alleen kokend water verbrandde bijna, weer geklaagd halve dag loodgieter in de kamer. Ik ben 2 dagen eerder vertrokken terwijl ik al betaald had.... Ik werd er treurig van....

The location - sea view rooms, decor & food!

We booked a small double and it is certainly very small especially the shower room! Also it was exceedingly heat wave hot (& a bit noisy to leave windows open all night) but we had brought fans away with us with us which helped!

We have stopped at this property before, and as always this met our every need. The location is terrific-right on the sea front. The size of the room was as described and spotlessly clean. The food was really good- we dined there on both nights of our stay-menu was varied and delicious. Also all of the staff were friendly and helpful.
