It’s very aesthetic and the property was very artistically done. The vibe was very good as we appreciate heritage and art rooms were huge and artistic.
Just walking in, antique statues lined both sides of the path, left & right, like the hotel wanted us to know exactly what kind of stay this was going to be. Martin was the most welcoming host, he accommodated my last minute birthday cake request. When the rain came in, he showed up with an umbrella before we even had to ask. We stayed in the presidential suite, surrounded by antique furniture that made the whole room feel like it belonged in a different century. There was an actual step stool by the bed because the bed was tall enough to need one and climbing up into it every night felt ridiculous in the best way. Like we'd been knighted into some kind of temporary royalty. The beds were so comfortable we overslept... more than once. And the bathrooms were modern and luxurious. And breakfast, by the water, was one of those meals you remember. The puri. The onion uttapam. The fruits. The staff kept offering seconds, but we could barely move. There's a massive boat inside the hotel. And a ballroom done up in full French decor. Stare worthy. Step outside and the street is lined with shops selling spices, antiques, jewelry, clothes, all within walking distance. And if you feel like walking.. Fort Kochi is 45 minutes away on foot, and the walk itself is half the fun, with sights and shops all along the way.
Nothing to complain about here. This is a five-star stay, full stop. The hotel sits on a different island, so getting there means crossing a bridge on narrow roads with traffic, that gets crazier when it rains. But this stay is so worth it.
Such a charming and unique stay - we won’t ever forget it! The rooms were designed beautifully, featuring creative and antique pieces. We were looked after very well by the friendly staff, especially Martin who took the time to show us around and share lots of information about the property and antiques. Location is amazing too - right by the water, so we had a lovely view from one of the rooms and the pool as well as the restaurant, and easy to explore Kochi from there.

Everything was perfect and made so much better by the wonderfully attentive and pleasant staff We stayed in the Presidential Suite and felt like royalty The location was very central to everywhere Tuk tuk at the door Martin was so kind and allowed us to stay longer in the room because our flight didn’t leave till 6! We were so grateful for this extension of kindness The waterfront dining was fabulous You won’t be disappointed Thank you Martin and team for making our stay unforgettable Ros and Mario
What a wonderful place to enjoy our 5 days in Kochi ! All of the staff including Martin were extremely affable and efficient with no request any bother at all ! The breakfast was delicious with plenty of choices and superb service. The room itself was stunning with an exceptionally comfortable bed and luxurious toiletries. Location was in the heart of Jewtown so TUK TUK and taxi services were on our doorstep. Tours and activities were also arranged for us by the hotel which was an added bonus. One of the best hotels we have ever stayed in if you are looking for a traditional experience ... we didn't want to leave !!
We cannot find any fault with the Ginger House Museum Hotel and the attention to detail that made our stay comfortable and enjoyable. Thank you Martin and staff for your excellent service and genuine smiles.
The room was lovely. But coming away with bedbugs ruined our experience of staying at this hotel.
I need to warn people about the risk of getting bedbugs here. We stayed in room 113 and were bitten by bedbugs. Despite our best efforts we did not manage to get rid of them through our trip in India and have now brought them home and need to pay a large amount of money for treatment. We informed Martin at the time and we asked for a discount of one night as compensation. He checked with the manager, who said they would not do this. Of course, really they should be paying for the full cost of the treatment. Based on the response, I did not feel that the management took us seriously and I don't think that they will be treating the room. So be aware, if you come away from this hotel with lines of three incredibly itchy bites, it will cost you and you will not get reimbursed! Also to note, this was the first hotel of our trip to India so it was definitely here that we picked them up. I have attached photos of the bites, taken at the time.
Firstly, if you are thinking about booking, just do it. The whole experience was absolutely amazing.
Everything was amazing.
Everything from the spacious clean rooms, the excellent attention to detail, service and friendliness of the staff and the owner. The food offered during the breakfast was delicious.
Nothing.
Both excellent
Beautiful room, beautiful decor, well located
A man who worked at the hotel restaurant was totally creepy to me. Repeatedly asked me my room number, asked if I was single, and offered to bring my check to my room. Very unprofessional. When i told the manager he tried to have me confront this man myself. Later he brought me fruit and said the guy didn’t speak English well so that was his excuse… he spoke English pretty well to me. It’s really a shame because the rest of the hotel was beautiful
I stayed in the sea view suite. All the suites and the rooms are spacious and the view from each one of them is amazing(they did give me a tour of all rooms and the property which has lots of antiques for sale). Each one is unique. It is located very close to the synagogue.and is easily accessible. The owner and the staff were very polite and were able to ease out even the smallest of inconveniences.
The Food!!!If you are a South Indian who has eaten Kerala food all through your life…you will know…
The decor is really interesting, there are many things to see, every corner. Room was very big and luxurious. People are really helpful to help you plan visits.
Food was expensive compared to what you can find outside.
Incredible location, spacious rooms and the property was simply beautiful in a raw and rustic sort of way. Martin and the staff went out of their way to make our stay comfortable and the service overall was exceptional. This is such a hidden gem!
Spa wasn’t well equipped
Fantastic atmosphere and location in Jew Town. Great service from staff who were attentive. Food was very good. Room was really nice. Martin in reception could not have been more helpful, ensuring we were comfortable and arranging our day trip on the backwaters. The owner, Manu, is passionate about ensuring his guests have the best stay possible.
Nothing. After a month in India staying in many different standards of accommodation, this was a perfect end to our holiday.
Room was great
Overpriced
Beautiful property. The royal suite is gorgeous. Martin is very kind, helpful and courteous. Highly recommend!
Beautiful property within an antique shop. Rooms were fabulously decorated using antiques. High ceilings and great lighting. Located in Jewtown which is lovely. Only 100INR tuk tuk ride to the fort.
There wasn’t any water available other than plastic bottles. Would be great if there was a large filtered water container on each floor.
The most beautiful room, comfortable, big, amazing antique furniture. Original and very special.
The pool was a bit underfilled and not the cleanest. The terrace around the pool a bit tired.
The welcome and the staff. The room itself is really a masterpiece combining antique furniture and fittings with modern air conditioning and facilities. Also, excellent restaurant with view to river. Walking distance to Jew Town sights. 5min tuktuk to Fort Kochi.
Nothing to complain about.
Looked great … but room not available
Room not available
The most friendly and warm welcome and help from Martin throughout our stay ! Stunning spacious individual rooms, a individual and boutique hotel
Nil
We stayed in the presidential suite and it is even better than the photos. The room is huge and romantic and filled with antiques. A huge bed that feels like you are in a palace. The owner and staff were so helpful and made us feel so welcome. Breakfast was delicious and you can watch the boats go by. The bathroom is Hollywood glamour and has a very powerful shower. We did not swim in the pool but it looked lovely. If you are looking for a truly unique and luxurious stay - this is it! Perfect for exploring Fort Kochi.
Nothing - it was perfect
It was unique. So much character. Definitely a hotel that you will always remember. An unforgettable stay. Martin the manager was amazing. Staff friendly, helpful.
Nothing, it was perfect,
Great location and the room was amazing.
A really special and unique place to stay in the heart of Jew Town, Fort Cochi. The staff here were amazing and we were made to feel particularly welcome by ‘marvellous Martin’ who couldn’t do enough for us. Room was luxurious and the little pool on the roof was a welcome addition. Great breakfast which was literally a ‘best of’ Keralan breakfasts in one go!
Evening meal options in restaurant were relatively limited with too many of the local Kerala options served as complete meals rather than as separate items.
Amazing location Martin the Manager so friendly and helpful we will be back
Nothing
ein wirklich aussergewöhnlicher Ort bezüglich Inventar! Personal sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit
Beautiful converted spice factory, now am antique shop and boutique hotel on the river
There was a problem with our reserved room (a leak) so we were upgraded to the Presidential Suite (which I had wanted to book in the first place, but the missus told me not to be a poser). The suite was amazing. It would have only cost a few £s more than the sea view suite we had booked, but well, well worth the difference Don't hesitate to splash out. It's absolutely astounding and exceptionally good value. Enormous and beautifully furnished. Breakfast was very good with excellent coffee (something of a rarity in Kerala despite the nearby coffee plantations). We also had a lunch and that was very good too. I think the restaurant only gets a 4.1 rating on Google, which strikes me as a bit on the low side.
The rooftop pool area is a little run down and could do with an facelift. The pool was full of dead insects, but I guess that's always going to be a problem in this location.
We loved the room it was huge and beautiful. The staff were amazing especially Martin. Nothing was too much trouble here. Just unbelievable
Loved all
Great personal touch from the staff
Nothing m
Location was perfect and the room was comfortable.
Was disappointed that I didn't get a room with a balcony which I had expected based on the pictures I was shown when selecting my room. Hot water in the room kept playing up. Food was mediocre. All in all I did not feel like I got value for money here especially when compared to other venues I had stayed at.
Idiosyncratic, beautiful, well located and welcoming
Nothing
Right in the middle of Jew Town but facing on to the water. Large, well equipped characterful room. The hotel is actually part of a vast antique shop and has bags of unique items and furniture scattered about. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The restaurant faces directly over the water with fabulous views across the harbour
The pool area was rather sketchy with only one umbrella and a few scattered loungers and chairs.
Huge room decorated tastefully. Lovely breakfast with nice restaurant staff.
The room was so dark with one tiny window and my room was over the street so very noisy all night. I also wouldn’t stay in Jew town as all the things to see are 10 minutes away in an auto. Stay closer to Princess street.
Located by the back water its peace all around you
The lunch was not that great, it was not tasty and was over priced
Stunning hotel and furniture
A very luxurious hotel with a charming and friendly staff. The location is great for touring most of the city's main sites.
Very unique in terms of decoration, great mattress and location
I liked everything
Ginger House Museum Hotel is a quirky hotel with lovely staff. Most rooms, though spacious, unfortunately do not have any views. The hotel is clean but does not have many facilities. The food at the restaurant is very decent. Jew Town is an interesting part of the island, close to the wall murals at Mattancherry that are definitely worth a visit.
We loved the beautiful and spacious room. Excellent location and very good service from every member of staff. On site restaurant was incredible. Breakfast was enormous and delicious.
The staff were very warm and welcoming.
All very good
Rooms were excellent. Big keys!!
Very busy during the day.
The hotel room we booked specified sea view. It did not. We eventually came to a satisfactory agreement and the staff were great. The food was horrible. But location great.
as above
Very impressive layout brilliant decoration
The food needs to be as good as the hotel
I loved the location overlooking the water and the ambiance of the place with all the antiques. Staff were lovely and helpful. A very enjoyable stay. It was an oasis.
perfect location, great rooms and amazing staff.
breakfast is local food
Ginger House is an exceptional hotel. Interesting and exciting interiors, a collection of antiques and handcrafted furniture and decorations. The staff is very friendly and the manager took very good care of our family of six, as well as the owner. We switched rooms half way, of our stay, and all the rooms are unique and very inspiring.
It is a beautiful museum hotel, just stunning and the staff was just lovely. Breakfast by the water was gorgeous and tasty!
Sehr gutes Restaurant
Terrasse- Liegestühle sind alt.
The staff - WOW. What a brilliant welcome and send-off. Would come back for the service alone! The room was spacious, clean and with lovely views out onto the water, and a little garden area in front where we could relax. We chose this hotel for the pool (yay in the hot weather) and the quirkiness given the museum attachment. We also ate at the attached restaurant which was superb and far better than some of the online reviews give it credit for. This was our last night in Fort Cochin and we wanted to relax and chill before starting our journey home. The Ginger House was perfect for that. Right in the middle of the jewish quarter - perfect for last minute souvenir shopping.
Very beautiful property. Huge rooms. Great views from the restaurant out over the water. Full of beautiful antiques. They went out of their way to prepare a huge breakfast for us an hour earlier than their normal timing.2 days in a row.
Absolutely nothing we didn't like.
The staff were so welcoming and helpful. They couldn’t do enough for you , The hotel is in a great location for mooching around the streets of Kochin.
Because it’s on the waterfront there can be a malodour . It did t bother us but worth noting
An Unusual combination between a museum an antique warehouse a restaurant and a hotel but the merge works extremely well all well managed by Martin and the owner of the place
Nothing
Comfortable rooms, nice pool and gardens, and helpful staff. A special thanks to Martin who helped me with everything -- tickets, transportation, and any special request -- always with a smile on his face.
No complaints!
The room was spectacular, the staff were attentive, funny and a joy to be around, the pool was an absolute delight and the antiques were such an amazing addition. The food was fantastic too. Breakfast portion size keeps you going all day. I had the presidential suite on my stay and it is by far the best room I've ever stayed in and the bed was so comfy I didn't want to leave.. Incredible value for money. I loved this place and would 100% come back.
I can't list a single thing!
The quirky and beautiful artefacts and furniture. Magnificent doors superb beds. Charming staff.
Fabulous, magical place. Much more character and charm than any other hotel I've stayed in. The room was large, spotlessly clean, and quiet, with a very comfortable bed. The staff were extremely attentive and friendly. Beautiful water views from the hotel restaurant with birds, ferries and fishermen. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious. Quirky and interesting surroundings with antiques avaiable to buy. Authentic and relaxing Indian experience with a happy and chilled vibe.
liebevoll eingerichtete Zimmer, alle unterschiedlich, direkt am Wasser. Sehr freundliches und hilfsbereites Personal. Frühstück und Abendessen waren abwechslungsreich und ausgezeichnet! Sehr zu empfehlen.
All was really exceptional. The stafff was exceptional. Martin always helpful and having the most friendly smile to us. We enjoyed our time in the hotel. Pool also great!
One small point to fix is the power sockets in our room. They were a little loose.
