Not far from the train station, ease of obtaining taxi to Highclere Castle. They looked after my bag securely during the day. Breakfast included, meal available to buy at night.

Noisy in the evening with drinking guests being a hotel.

Tolles Pub-Hotel mit Allem was man braucht: Schönes Zimmer, neues Bad, fantastisches Essen im hauseigenen Restaurant. Alles gut zu Fuss zu erreichen. Wir kommen gerne wieder.

We liked the bathroom and shower. And the bed was comfortable .

No hot breakfasts! The croissants etc were nice, but we like a full English breakfast. Not enough pillows. Only one chair in the bedroom.. and no lights suitable to read by. Lots of street noise during the night.

Parking easy and flexible. Check in was easy. Everything explained well. Bathroom condition was good and bed and pillows comfortable.

Bedroom window hard to move was open on a wooden block. Cups in bedroom dirty with rings around top and same at breakfast. Bath taps dripped all night even when tightly off. No fan in bathroom was very stuffy and warm in there. Poor quality continental breakfast. Bananas all black and inedible. poor selection of cereals, nothing healthy.

Really enjoyed our stay at this old traditional pub which had overnight accommodation of a high standard. We were made welcome on arrival and staff were all helpful and friendly. Breakfast was continental style, varied and plentiful. Would definitely recommend and would stay again when next visiting the area.

Excellent location right in the heart of Newbury. Clean tidy room. Great mattress, friendly staff and although the room overlooked the road, we were not bothered by any noise.

No shelves in the bathroom and the shower was very weak. No plug by the mirror so couldn’t see to dry my hair. We stayed in room 2 but was unaware before we booked that there are steps in the room to access the bathroom and bedroom areas. Although the room was clean overall, the inside window frames were dirty and full of cobwebs.

Great location and the beds were really comfortable. Really cool vibe to the place.

Was quite hot in the rooms. Even when the outside temp in the morning down to well below 20 it was still quite warm. Would be nicer in the winter. AC would make it a 9-10.

The pub was lovely only had a drink in there as we ate elsewhere with friends. The rooms were nice, tidy and clean

There really isn’t anything I didn’t like. Just two small things the shower screen on the bath wasn’t high enough for the height of the shower head, so it flooded the bathroom floor. Also I found the pillows uncomfortable but that’s a personal thing so not a criticism.

Room was warm during the hot days we stayed. Although a fan was provided, maybe adding a net/privacy curtain on main window so window could be open wider as room faced main street.

Plenty. Private details of mine kept on bar top in full view of anyone in the bar. Hard to get hold of staff. Light switches are in the wrong place in the room and the room has a step in the middle of it. Noisy. Very hot. Very small opening window and fan just blew warm air round. Bar closed early even though it was world cup final day. No front desk. When I sent email explaining these issues it was ignored and not responded to at all.

Lovely popular pub in a great central location and the pizzas are outstanding, we wouldn't usually choose pizza for an evening meal but they looked too good not to have one each!

The location was great for the town and race course.

The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was modern, the overall suite clean and tidy and very pleasant - and there was no noise from the pub either.

Clean room and quick check in

It was unbearably hot in the room, probably got a max of 1h sleep. The bedroom window opened about 10cm and was only provided with a small fan. Also the breakfast was very very basic, and the pastries were stale.

Hard to tell if the generally tatty nature of the place is part of a 'grungy' image, or whether it just needs a coat of paint! Our room was small and stuffy - to ventilate it required putting a splintery block of wood (provided) under a sash window, and using an electric fan. The little dining room we used was also windowless and too hot - the alternative being outside seating with a view of the car-park. When we went down to breakfast we were greeted by small pit bull type dog that had to be restrained by a member of staff - very unnerving! The parking regulations are also very unclear - we had to register twice. The other issue is that the toilets are up one and a half flights of stairs - hard to negotiate if you have any mobility issues (as we have). What is also unfortunate is that the place is located in a bit of Newbury that has become rather isolated from the real centre. This is due to the decline of an awful shopping mall that is scheduled for redevelopment.

The room was large & clean. The facilities in the room were good - fluffy tails, nice pillows and duvets, decent shower etc. The staff were friendly.

Perfect location

Not much, but it was clean.

Small room, tiny bathroom with only overhead shower high up. I have long hair, so unavoidable to keep it dry as no shower cap provided and the base was slippery with no 'grab handle' on the wall of shower. Bed not very comfortable. Breakfast not good considering price of stay. 'Make your own porridge in a pot! Looks out on road with neon lights on all night. There was a blind which helped. The booking was way overpriced for what it was! We would never stay there again.

Don’t choose for a weekend stop, is very noisy, some rooms overlook the Main Street and there is a great deal of through traffic including motorbikes and hotheads showing off to late night pedestrians… the noise continued on till the early hours. On site Parking is available to residents (we checked before arriving) but apparently anyone using the bar can enter their number plate so the car park was heaving with some cars double parked leaving phone numbers in windscreen …we were told on arrival that this was our problem not theirs yet when I phoned prior (and messaged) we were assured that there would be no problem parking. It would be best to state limited parking and at least offer some guidance on where else you can park on arrival. Breakfast was diy with no on site staff.

The location was ideal for us, just a short walk from the Corn Exchange for a concert and on the edge of the pedestrianised old town. Despite the central location it was quiet and had its own parking. Continental breakfast was generous and self - service so available early if required.

There were steps within the room between the sleeping area and the en suite bathroom. The shower tray was slippery.

The breakfast provided was good considering it's not cooked but a serve yourself continental.

If you're a sound sleeper The Dolphin will do. There are 5 rooms. Numbers 1 through 4 face a loud busy street. I moved to number 5, a nicer room which faces the back and is potentially quiet if not for someone walking around on the ancient sqeeky floor above at all hours of the night.

The rooms do not get serviced for longer stays unless you ask. N my opinion, they should be unless the rate is reduced for multi-stat visits.

Very close to railway station and the center of the town. Possibility to relax and eat in the same place where you stay. Very good fish snd chips. Very good breakfast. Parking space available.

The window is not closing tightly so during the night can be heard road noise and a possibly drunk person bashing the entrance door. Also in the morning we didn’t have where to leave the key. Luckily the cleaning woman arrived and we left that with her.

Everything was perfect, from check-in through to the sizeable room. Breakfast was continental which was fantastic and plenty of choices. The staff where very welcoming and even let us check-in early which was a nice bonus. We will definitely stay again. Well recommend.

Steps you could trip over going into bathroom. Couldn’t get internet to work well. No breakfast tea bags at breakfast available. A lot of money for what it was.

Easy walking distance from train station, even with luggage. Easy to find. Good signage in the warren of this old building. Good pub.

Room too hot with sealed windows. I would note that we were there on a Friday. There was music and partying in the pub's garden until 11:00 pm, but then it was quiet. We tend to turn in early, about 9:00, so younger folks might enjoy partying with the locals. We slept well.....after 11.

It’s an inn and pub. We arrived earlier and didn’t inform the property adequately, but they were really nice and opens and did the check in, although it wasn’t time for it. The room was clean and the food at the pub was amazing, the make the best fries, and I had the pork belly it was really crispy and well made.

All bedrooms are on the first floor accessed by a very steep staircase with a very short going (the horizontal bit) which makes it very difficult going up and worse coming down when you’re carrying a suitcase. Bedroom had no sound insulation from the bar beneath, but worse no sound insulation through the window. At just after five in the morning there are lorries driving by and shortly after six a noisy street cleaning vehicle. any chance of sleep after 5 o’clock is negligible. The breakfast is a serve yourself with cold meat and cheese stored under clingfilm in the fridge, breakfast cereals, tasteless croissants, all in a windowless room with no staff.

The rooms at the front have a lot of noise from the traffic and people standing outside smoking . The windows are old sash windows and have no secondary glazing.
