Dumfries Villa

The host was very informative about this listed property – and explained some of the ‘quirky’ features of the building. There is good on-site free parking, and it’s just a 5-minute walk into Dumfries town centre. Enjoyed a hearty breakfast in the morning.

As one could expect with properties of this age – the décor was a little ‘tired’ in places.

The hall carpets were dirty, the room had big cracks in the ceiling and walls, the en suite was so small you needed to use it with the door open, the sink had a crack in it, the radiator was very dirty and rusty and I had to shower with the local wildlife. In the bedroom the TVs electric supply was via an extension lead hanging from it and the chairs were dangerous to sit on as the legs were very wobbly. The window didn't shut properly leaving a gap at the bottom when it was shut and if you wanted it open it had to be wedged open with a block of wood. Breakfast was ok but tops were sticky where the juice and cereals were kept and there was no attempt to clear the table of used crockery and cutlery so ended up having to pile it on top of each other to make room.

With the price that I paid the room actually exceeded my expectations. I don't normally book rooms with an external bathroom but as it was described as 'private' and I was only staying one night, I did so on this occasion. The bathroom was actually right next door and I was given a key, so I could leave my bits and bobs there without the danger of other guests picking them up . Considering it was only a single the room was quite large and at the front of the building. The bed was so so as far as comfort goes. Overall the facility was far better than I envisaged I would be getting (as previously stated!) Breakfast was the usual help yourself buffet followed by a fry up in a bright light room on the ground floor. Colin was a delightful host with a dry sense of humour and on arrival had a long list of things to show me such as which keyhole to use on different doors and what to do and not do with the toilet. The property is a listed building and there are some things he is not allowed to do that he could otherwise carry out to modernise the property. The guest house is easy to find, a couple of minutes from the railway station and 5 minutes to the town centre in the opposite direction.

Het bed maakte veel lawaai doordat het hoofdeinde (van metaal) los zat en bij elke draai tegen de muur klapte. Badkamerdeur ging bijna niet open als je m dicht deed… dus maar open laten staan

Excellent stay at Dumfries Villa — 10/10. The room was clean, comfortable and had everything I needed for a great stay. The host was absolutely excellent and went above and beyond to make sure I was well looked after. In particular, the breakfast was fantastic and I was extremely grateful for how well fed I was before setting off for the day! I stayed here while cycling the SWC300, so having somewhere secure to store my bike was really important to me. There is a secure shed located at the garage where I could safely leave my bike overnight, which was a brilliant added bonus and gave me complete peace of mind. The location in Dumfries was also ideal for my trip, and the whole stay felt very welcoming and relaxed. It’s clear that the host genuinely cares about making sure guests have a good experience. Would definitely recommend Dumfries Villa, especially to anyone travelling by bike, and I’d happily stay again.

Beautiful house very close to city center

La posizione é molto buona, c’è un parcheggio privato e il gestore è molto cordiale e gentile. La colazione è buona, c’è la possibilità di servirsi da soli per alcuni prodotti e si sceglie cosa si preferisce per il resto. La saletta è piacevole e ben organizzata e pulita. Purtroppo non si può dire altrettanto per la stanza.

la stanza e la porta d’ingresso hanno bisogno di manutenzione. I materassi presentano bitorzoli e non sono confortevoli. È un peccato, perché ci sono tante piccole attenzioni per i clienti e, con un po’ di attenzione e manutenzione, diventerà un gioiellino. Allo stato attuale e relativamente alla stanza che abbiamo avuto noi, non possiamo dare una votazione più alta.

Friendly staff,breakfast was fantastic,comfortable beds, there were a few minor details which could be fixed but you get what you pay for and was more than happy with the place for the price.

The smell of the washing detergent on the bedding was very overpowering in the room, not good if you are allergic to these products.

Lovely accommodation with a friendly and welcoming owner. I only stayed one night, but I immediately felt comfortable and at ease. The b&b is very close to the town centre, so it's in an excellent position for exploring Dumfries and accessing amenities, and the breakfast included was very tasty and plentiful. Overall, great value for money! :)

Wir konnten unser Auto für vier Tage auf dem Grundstück stehen lassen und eine Rundreise mit den Fahrrädern machen.

Ich habe bei der Abreise eine teure Regenjacke im Schrank liegen lassen. Trotz mehrfacher Anfrage und dem Angebot die Kosten für den Transport zu übernehmen kam keine Reaktion in irgendeiner Form. Auch ein telefonischer Kontakt ist nicht möglich. Dies ist kein Verhalten für eine kundenfreundliche Unternehmung. Kann ich nicht Empfehlen,

Great location in Dumfries and good breakfast.

Sehr netter Gastgeber , sehr kurze Wege in die Stadt (5 min zu Fuß). Mein Sohn hat sich gefreut, dass es heiße Schokolade in Tüten beim Wasserkocher gab.

Dumfries selbst hatte ich von vor 10 Jahren quirliger in Erinnerung. Die Innenstadt ist heute nicht mehr so lebendig wie früher - aber dafür kann der Gastgeber natürlich nichts.

Room 1 is quite noisy in the morning when people are coming for breakfast and breakfast is being cooked. I fancied a long lie but this was not possible - also the smell from the kitchen very much wakes you in that room! Smelled gorgeous but might not be for everyone.

Nice frontage. I was located in the annex. One double and one single bed. Spacious with a plentiful supply of beverages. Bathroom was nice. With just one fault. Nice dining room. Excellent breakfast.

Very dated decor. Scruffy entrance. Loose metal plate on the floor at the front door and shabby paintwork. Cold tap in the bathroom would not turn fully off.

Everything! My room (family annex) was so comfortable, clean and quiet, and great breakfast with good selection of options. The service was excellent and Colin is such a lovely person, going out of his way to make you feel welcome and well looked after. Highly recommend.

The host is just the nicest person, he gave us a very warm welcome and even made room in his shed for our bicycles to fit in overnight. His dinner recommendations were also spot on! Very good value for money here all-round!

B&B in a historic building. A quite „oldfashioned“ charme over the whole place. Some refurbishement here and there is overdue.

Breakfast ordered for 07:45, got Breakfast at almost 08:30.

I was in the annex and it got rather warm as it had French doors for access but no window that could be opened for fresh air.

The host was very welcoming and together with his team he makes you feel at home immediately. My room was spacious with a nice view and the breakfast was delicious. Good value for money!

It is in an old mansion and that’s why it can be a bit noisy. Some details good be better, like the lose shower head.

The guest house was so close to town and station. Colin the owner was very helpful and informative. The room size and bathroom good. room serviced every day.

Dont really want to criticise because Colin was great but The decor in room is very dated, need painted and wall paper of , carpet is old and worn, curtain doesn't fit well. Tv way too small for room. The bathroom was large but again needs to work on details of cleaning. The place is good but could be so much better.

The staff were really friendly and breakfast was good.

We tried to contact the bed and breakfast prior to arrival to ensure the check in time and booking was ok, however they were unable to be contacted. The whole place needs to be deep cleaned and refurbished, curtains were hanging from the rails and the en-suite was so small it was hard to fit in with the door closed. However, the breakfast was good and it is near to the town centre.

We were put into a room with twin beds the telly we had to move to watch no fridge in room. Asked to return room keys no apology when he found them where requested.

Nous avons apprécié la grande chambre, beaucoup de place pour nos bagages et de la place pour se détendre dans les fauteuils devant la grande fenêtre au dessus du jardin. Le plateau bouilloire est un élément accueillant avec thé, café, petits gâteaux etc... Le petit-déjeuner était bon et copieux.

Nice location with many buildings from the 1800s, with many being made from what looked like a red sandstone making the churches and other buildings really stand out especially the one directly across the road from the accommodation.

Location and welcome from host

The guest house owner and his staff were all very helpful and really went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. The house is a beautiful Victorian villa, with many original features that have been preserved. There was a convenient seating area in the front garden, which guests were enjoying well into the evening as the weather was excellent. Although we were driving, the house is just a short walk from the railway station, so would be ideal if you were travelling to Dumfries by train.

The ensuite was a bit of a squeeze but I appreciate that fitting ensuites into a historic building isn't easy!

Iedere dag werd mij kamer gereinigt, koffie en theefaciliteiten werden dan ook aangevuld. Keuze ontbijt was goed. Vlakbij treinstation.

Het raam kon alleen maar open met een blok hout er tussen, de warmte ging niet uit de kamer. Bij andere kamers kon het raam wel open. Ik miste dus een ventilator. Weinig bergruimte en geen wastafel op kamer. Douche krsp.Personeel erg zakelijk.

Der Besetzer war super freundlich und hat uns bei Ankunft ein paar Tipps gegeben, wo wir essen gehen können bzw. was wir machen können. Frühstück war ok. Man erhält am Vortag einen Zettel, auf dem man aussuchen kann, was man am nächsten Morgen haben möchte. Joghurt, Müsli sowie Getränke standen zusätzlich bereit, ohne das man sich hier vorher entscheiden musste. Zu fuß waren wir in ca. 10 min in der Innenstadt, wo es viele verschiedene Restaurants gibt, bei denen man gut und vor günstig Essen kann.

Ein winziger Kritikpunkt ist, dass die Einfahrt zum Parkplatz schnell übersehen werden kann und recht schmal ist. Abgesehen davon gibt es aber genügend Stellplätze und auch Platz zum wenden.

Die Lage zum Bahnhof war gut.

Unser Zimmer war in einem Anbau, und man kam sich vor wie im Schaufenster. Eingang durch die Balkontüren. Sauberkeit ließ zu wünschen übrig. Alles sehr alt. Betten durchgelegen. Frühstück, naja.

The host Colin was wonderful and nothing was an issue. I needed to put my medication in a fridge and ice packs in a freezer. I didn't realise when I booked that there wasn't a little fridge in my room. Colin offered to bring a little fridge to my room, but then offered to put my freezer packs and medication in his own fridge. My room was #4 looking out onto the street which was very quiet looking out onto a lovely garden. I asked Colin if it was ok to open the window and that was not a problem. Check-in was good except I kept interrupting Collin's lunch a couple of times asking a question.....sorry Collin. The room was large and very conformable with big old fashioned windows.

The only fault I had with the accommodation was that the bathroom was very tiny. There was no room in the bathroom to dry myself so I had to close the curtains and dry off in the bedroom. I certainly would stay again.

Wir waren auf der Durchreise für 1 Übernachtung. Das Zimmer war sauber und ordentlich. Das Bad war sehr klein aber auch sauber. Das ist für uns das wichtigste. Das Personal war sehr freundlich und auch das Frühstück lecker. Die Betten waren für uns etwas zu weich. Das liegt ja im Auge des Betrachters.

Das Bad war sehr klein. Der Teppich könnte mal ausgetauscht werden.

Beautiful old house with a spacious room, near to town centre and right next to the station. Host was friendly, good breakfast included.

I had a lovely stay at Dumfries Villa for a very reasonable cost. My room was huge and very comfortable, with a modern well-appointed ensuite. The location was perfect, very near to the station (I arrived by train) and a few minutes' walk from the town centre. Lots of breakfast options, and an extremely friendly welcome.
