Gyokutei

Ryokan tipico ad Hakone in mezzo al verde con ponticelli e laghetto di carpe koi. Siamo stati accolti dallo staff e accompagnati nel nostro alloggio che era spaziosissimo, tutto in tatami con onsen privato e vista sul giardino. I pasti vengono serviti da una cameriera privata direttamente nell'alloggio. Se si arriva presto venite accolti con una merenda a base di mochi e matcha. Spettacolare anche l'onsen pubblico. Futon molto comodi. La cameriera era molto dolce e disponibile, ci ricorderemo per sempre lei che ci accompagna e ci saluta all'uscita del ryokan una volta concluso il nostro soggiorno.

Es un lugar mágico, tanto la casa como los jardines son maravillosos. El personal es increíblemente detallista y hace que la experiencia fuese un recuerdo de por vida. La casa es cómoda, grande, acogedora. La cena y el desayuno son tipicos (algun plato sorprende los europeos que somos, pero es parte del juego!)

Il ryokan è immerso nel verde ed e’ tradizionale Giapponese per vivere un esperienza unica

Le jardin est très beau, l’expérience ryokan est au rendez-vous. La gentillesse de Yoko qui nous a servi.

Le lieu est un peu défraîchi dans son ensemble. Pour ce prix on s’attendait à un endroit un peu plus moderne. Le petit déjeuner au poisson est trop copieux, il serait pertinent de laisser le choix au client entre un petit-déjeuner japonais et un repas plus classique. Le site est difficilement accessible sans taxi, très forte pente difficile à monter avec les valises.

Le personnel est aimable et surtout très attentionné dès notre arrivée. L’établissement est magique qui offre une expérience unique dans un environnement traditionnel. Le repas était délicieux servi directement dans la chambre avec beaucoup d’attention.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay. From the moment we arrived, we felt like royalty. Every member of the staff treated us with exceptional kindness, care and attention, making us feel welcome at all times. We are especially grateful to the young lady who looked after us so warmly throughout our stay. The ryokan itself is beautiful. The onsen is peaceful and relaxing, and the gardens are simply breathtaking. Staying here felt like being in a little paradise, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The traditional Japanese breakfast and dinner were also a memorable experience. Although the cuisine is different from what we are used to in our country, everything was prepared with great care, excellent quality ingredients and was absolutely delicious. It allowed us to experience authentic Japanese hospitality and culture in a way we never could have elsewhere. We honestly cannot recommend this ryokan enough. Anyone visiting Hakone should stay here at least once. If we are lucky enough to return to Japan and visit Hakone again, we would not even consider staying anywhere else. Thank you for making our stay so special. It is an experience that our family will always remember.

Fantastische ervaring!

This was one of the best experiences of our trip. The traditional Japanese-style room was incredibly beautiful, spacious, and spotless. The lady who served us dinner and breakfast was absolutely lovely. Although she spoke very little English, she used a translator to explain everything perfectly, making us feel very welcome. There is a shared onsen for all guests, but what we loved most was having our own private bathtub filled with natural onsen water. Our room overlooked a beautiful garden with a peaceful pond full of colorful koi carp. The room had two Western-style beds, but we also had the option to sleep on traditional futons. We chose the futons and we slept well. The best way to enjoy this place is to disconnect from the outside world and simply relax. However, if you do need internet access, the Wi-Fi works perfectly, better than in many modern hotels we stayed at in larger cities. If your budget and schedule allow, I would recommend staying for two nights. That gives you enough time to fully enjoy the ryokan while also exploring the many attractions and activities around Hakone. One night is still a wonderful experience, but it felt far too short, and we definitely wished we had stayed longer.

Not so easy to find the entrance. We also weren't huge fans of the traditional Japanese breakfast. The quality of the food was excellent, but it simply wasn't the kind of meal we would normally eat in the morning (see the pictures). There were also so many different dishes that it was impossible for us to finish everything. That said, it's all part of the authentic experience, and we'd much rather have a traditional Japanese breakfast than a standard French croissant or American pancakes. Just be aware of what to expect, especially if you're traveling with children or picky eaters.

We loved everything about this beautiful ryokan: the peaceful setting, stunning gardens, relaxing onsen, and our wonderful host and staff. After spending a few hectic days in Tokyo, this was the perfect place to unwind and experience a true sense of calm and tranquility. Our children, ages 13 and 10, loved it as well, and the food was absolutely amazing. When we return to Hakone, we will definitely stay here again. Thank you for such an incredible and memorable stay!

The property is just as beautiful as it looks in the photos. It’s close (five minute walk) to the main road, but still is super quiet at night. The rooms are like separate villas, and beautiful gardens and a koi pond separate the main buildings. The onsens were fantastic and a bit hotter than I’m used to which was perfect. The building is on a small hill and the staff came down the hill to get our luggage before we had even gotten to the front door. The woman who showed us to our room, Yoko, was so sweet and was the one serving our breakfasts and dinners. She was so sweet and super helpful — we had some dietary restrictions i forgot to warn them about but Yoko and the kitchen staff were very accommodating. The food was fantastic. Lots of fresh fish, fresh tofu, pickles, veggies, soup, rice, the whole nine yards. We were always totally stuffed haha! The property feels like your own little house. It’s very comfortable and private. Yoko came in and out frequently throughout breakfast and dinner times. I like my privacy, but Yoko didn’t feel underfoot / we didnt feel tense having her there. The whole staff were all very kind and friendly, it felt like a family run BnB. My sisters and I all miss Yoko !! She was so fun!! At the end of our stay they carried our luggage and walked with us to the very edge of the property. I would 100% return and I hope I do!

What an incredible place with a true Japanese atmosphere, a fantastic garden, and authentic Japanese food. What I really loved was the Japanese lady wearing traditional clothing who took care of the dinner and breakfast. She was able to transport us into another dimension, making us feel as if we were in Japan hundreds of years ago.

Une expérience à ne pas manquer. Si l’arrivée à l’accueil de Gyokutei n’est pas à la hauteur de vos attentes, pas de panique : la surprise est après. Le Ryokan traditionnel dans lequel vous allez séjourné est un voyage hors du temps - un Ryokan très spacieux avec une vue sur le jardin japonais dans un décor observant la plus pure tradition japonaise. Le dîner, aux mets raffinés, est servi directement dans votre Ryokan avec un service adorable et soigné. Vous pourrez ensuite profiter du onsen de l’hôtel, spacieux et propre. Les futons sont extrêmement confortables !! Il faut accepter de se plonger au cœur du Japon pour apprécier ce voyage au Ryokan à sa juste valeur : minimalisme, calme, connexion avec la nature. Il n’y a pas le confort d’un boutique hôtel mais ce n’est pas, à mon sens, pas l’objet ! Ça déboussole, ça secoue un peu au début, mais quels souvenirs inoubliables. Merci à la gentillesse infinie de nos trois hôtes. Nous reviendrons.

C’est vrai que la salle de bain pourrait être un petit peu rafraîchie mais correspond aussi à un charme suranné du lieu.

Beautiful, serene location. Wonderful staff. My 8 year old son loved our host- he said she felt like his Japanese grandma because she took wonderful care of us and had a soft soothing voice. Japanese meals were delicious if you are open-minded to seafood. The onsen was so relaxing. It was a great way to recover part way through our trip.

Meals are hard for kids if they are not open minded/adventurous eaters.

Experiencia maravillosa. Instalaciones muy cuidadas, con todo lujo de detalles. El jardín, el onsen y las habitaciones eran estupendas. Muy amplio y tranquilo. Nuestra anfitriona fue muy amable y nos explicó todo perfectamente. La cena fue espectacular, estaba buenísima. El onsen genial, fue 3 veces y las 3 lo tuve para mi sola. 100%recomendable

El desayuno por ser demasiado tradicional. No creo que el problema fuera el desayuno, si no que mi estómago occidental no estaba preparado para ello.

- it’s really a minor thing, but if you are taller that 1.85mt, you have to constantly pay attention not to bump your head when passing through the doors.

This is my first time experience in a Ryokan. The food and service are exceptional. The hotel is beautifully set in a Japanese garden providing natural hot springs in the public Gold Palace and Silver Palace. There is also a private tub in my room. If you want to have a experience like enjoying a time capsule and try how traditional Ryokan works this is a must try. But if you are a modern style lover then this is not your best choice

Hotel Gyokutei is a beautiful, peaceful property. The hotel staff were very attentive to us and made us feel very welcome. The evening meal was outstanding, as was the breakfast. It was an easy walk into town for shopping or catching the bus. The private onsen in our room was delightful. The public baths were well maintained, clean, and so soothing.

Our multi-room accommodation was lovely, but it was quite cold in many spaces that were not heated by mini splits.

This is my second time visiting here. Very good for me to stay here for exploring Hakone

Very friendly staff. Spacious room and wonderful facilities. Both private and public baths use hot spring water. I would recommend requesting the hinoki/cypress wood bathtub. The public baths will alternate between men and women depending on time of day. Excellent dinner and breakfast, though there is a strong (traditional) seafood influence, so this might be a deal-breaker for people. Examples: fish liver, oyster meatball, uni (sea urchin), fried whole fish (horse mackerel).

Really, the ONLY way this stay could've been better would be laundry equipment/facilities, or at least laundry service if the space can't accommodate. Slightly tough to get to, Google Maps doesn't have the right 'spot'. If you see a stone wall, keep walking to the left (uphill) until you see an entrance area with a huge 'parking lot'. I think a photo somneone posted on Google Maps will provide more details.

Amazing experience. I would recommend to anyone visiting Japan.

Google Maps navigation only said to go straight up a retaining wall and we spent a long time circling trying to work out how to get there. Go left at the retaining wall and the gate is on your right up the hill a bit, opposite Casablanca.

Hoe we werden ontvangen en geholpen! Hoe de locatie eruit zag. Prachtig!! Als je een echte traditionele Japanse ervaring wilt dan is dit de perfecte locatie. We hadden een persoonlijke verzorgster en zij verzorgde ons heel erg goed! We kregen een traditioneel diner in 8 gangen ofzo en een traditioneel ontbijt. Beide was niet ons ding, maar de verzorging was uitmuntend! De ryokan was ruim en ontzettend mooi. De tuin eromheen ook en er is een publieke onsen.

Het was niet ons ding persoonlijk. Maar het was een ervaring om nooit te vergeten.

Praticamente nulla. Attenzione solamente alla posizione indicata su google maps. Risulta difficile arrivare e trovarlo.

Die Unterkunft ist ein Kleinod. Die Menschen dort, waren mitunter die nettesten Menschen die wir auf unserer Reise kennenlernen durften. Wir erreichten die Unterkunft als es schon Dunkel war und kamen fast zur Abendessenzeit. Am nächsten Morgen waren wir tief beeindruckt wie schön die Morgensonne den Garten beschien. Ein Traum dieser Garten. Das Abendessen wie auch das Frühstück waren sehr reichhaltig und wir waren mehr als satt. Die Betten waren Ryokan typisch und dementsprechend sehr bequem.

Wir hatten vom Bahnhof aus mit Google Maps etwas Probleme die Unterkunft zu finden. Google schickte uns links den Berg hoch, aber als wir eine Anwohnerin fragten, schickte sie uns die Straße wieder ein Stück runter. Letztlich wären wir besser direkt nach der Brücke links anstatt rechts gegangen. Außerdem hatte die Unterkunft einen sehr merwürdigen Geruch der unangenehm war.

Beautiful food but deeply disappointing service — we left feeling misled and ignored. We enjoyed the dinner being served in our room — the food was beautifully presented and of high quality

Unfortunately, we were significantly overcharged. The hotel acknowledged that they had misinformed us about the pricing, which resulted in an unfair higher charge. We proposed a fair middle ground to resolve the matter, but that was ignored. Overall this really soured what should have been a memorable stay.

My wife and I were on our honeymoon. It was a wonderful experience. The room was clean, spacious and even better than the pictures from the website! The staff was amazing. Although we had a pamphlet with clear instructions, it was still very helpful having someone tell us what the dos and donts were around the room especially since we had a private onsen. The food was exceptional. We were served two courses and both were well cooked and seasoned.

Gyokutei is a beautiful traditional ryokan with outstanding hospitality. The rooms are spacious and elegant, the private onsen was wonderful, and the kaiseki meals were both delicious and beautifully presented. A special thanks to the attendant who guided us and served our meals with such warmth and care—she truly made our stay unforgettable.

A bit difficult to find and has many steps to get there but the peaceful setting and exceptional service made it completely worth it.
