Breakfast I thought okay my partner thought good though toaster didn't work. Evening meal was excellent. Grounds of property very nice to walk around Beautiful red headed woodpecker and long beaked ibis. View from our room was AMAZING!!!!
Really quite cold in the room. Need obsured glass in bathroom.
Do conforto.
O pagamento.
Room very comfortable. Staff and food were wonderful
Amazing view and beautiful ground. We enjoyed the meals and staff were very friendly and helpful. One of the prettiest hikes we did in Patagonia Chile started at the lodge. Definitely worth the visit.
Some furniture was not practical and the closet latch contraption drove my husband crazy 😂
Very nice spacious cabin setting. We stayed in the 4 persons cabin which was nicely designed.
Quality of beds mediocre and breakfast and dinner disappointing at this price point
Like the eco lodge and enjoyed the hike/forest bathing in property
The room was not what I expected and the room was only cleaned by 2pm
Everything - the views, the balcony directly outside the room, the beautiful common areas, the hikes on and around the property, breakfast, evening meal ! Loved it!
It is quite expensive and the rooms are a little on the small side.
Everything! Cozy cabin with wood stove. Views!! Rustic charm. Food was great at the lodge, would recommend that over food in town, even though it is expensive, it is delicious! Good location to get to Patagonia, confluence of the Rio Baker and Neff, river or lake activities, close enough to Puerto Rio Tranquilo. Staff was friendly and very helpful!
A great rustic lodge with expansive views, excellent food and drinks, friendly staff, and cozy rustic cabins with wood stove. We stayed in a 3 bedroom cabin with another couple. Great views, hiking, and meals were excellent. Good location for getting down to Patagonia National Park, Puerto Rio Tranquilo, and San Rafael activities. Can't recommend this place enough!
Cosy lodge. We weren’t self catering but only limited tea/ coffee making facilities. You need to remind yourself where you are…. Bathroom was very rustic and needed to check for slugs on the shower curtain! Wood fire was lit for evening with a plentiful amount of wood available. Needed to adjust the timer on the electric heater or the morning was very chilly. Food was good. Nothing fancy but perfectly acceptable. The walk to the lake was great and made even better when accompanied by Gary the staffie! Fishing at a nearby lake was enjoyable.
Sehr kleine Zimmer, dünne Wände, nahe an der Strasse
Incredible location, nice (and warm) communal areas and fantstic food each night prepared by chef Venecia. Portions are huge so easy to share meals/starters/mains. On the property itself there’s an incredibly rewarding hike with some of the best views we had on our trip (but you need to walk all the way to the end!). Staff are delightful - a special mention for Belén who is the sweetest!
Rooms are on the small side. And all porches are connected so not much privacy there.
Everyone was so friendly and helpful in planning hikes the day we left. Decor was fun and beautiful. Food was outstanding, local and large portions we used some fir our dinner the next day,
a really beautiful idyll in the glorious surroundings. Great rooms, great food, and access to some amazing hikes, and adventures.
We spent 1 night at this ecolodge , dinner was amazing , we called in advance to reserve dinner . The lodge has a 9 km trail with amazing views of Bertrand and General Carreras lake
Remote, peaceful and relaxing.
Great lodge in a wonderful location and unexoectedly good food. Very helpfull staff, Definitely worth the relatively high price.
Nothing
Very friendly team. Comfy bed. Great views. Dinner 60 dollars which some reviews have complained about but the food was good and the price reflects the overheads and fixed costs of running a small enterprise in such a remote location. We were very satisfied with our stay
Had a fantastic stay for 4 nights at Mallin. Belén and Roxana could not have been more helpful during our stay, booking in and organising for us our bucket list tours of Kayaking the Marble Caves and the Explorades Glacier Ice Walk. The companies that they used were first class. Belén is extremely knowledgeable and was such a gracious host. The walk at the back of the property has some of the best views around. The rooms are lovely and thoughtfully decorated and the property is about 50mins from Rio Tranquilico by car and is a lovely drive. Can’t fault our stay, thank you to the team at Mallin!

We stayed two nights on our journey on the Carretera Austral and were overwhelmed by the Mallin Colorado Ecolodge. It is located at the slope of a hill next to the Lago General Carrera right in the middle of the countryside above the Carretera Austral. It is a perfect location to drive to Rio Baker (and Confluenza) as well as the Western parts of the Patagonia NP. The beautiful wooden buildings - the main house and other houses with rooms are tastefully architected and provide a very comfortable "lodge" atmosphere. We had a room with a spectacular view onto the lake. There are very comfortable common rooms. The people from the lodge were both incredibly friendly and helpful in case of advice. What also has been outstanding has been the food, both at breakfast but particularly at dinner with a set menu. The price of US$50 per person appeared full at first glance, but with hindsight was more than justified by the incredible quality, flavour and creativity of the dishes. In addition a well curated list of Chilenian wines complements the very positive impression. For anyone traveling the Carretera Austral looking for a special place to stay we can only recommend the lodge.
Mallin Colorado is beautiful and worth stopping for. The staff is very friendly and welcoming while the facilities are very comfortable and on a clear night breathtaking.
Nothing.
We loved our stay. Our only regret was that we couldn’t have stayed longer. Best hotel we’ve stayed at so far in Chile! The staff was so welcoming. Packed us a lunch to go. Offered us a welcome drink and accommodated our gluten free needs by arranging a meal at a resort close-by.
The room was a little hot but you can adjust the radiator in the room.
The view from the room is outstanding and the staff is great. The trails on the property lead to some of the nicest view points in Northern Patagonia.
The view of the lake from our room was amazing! Location, location , location ! Staff was very polite and helpful
Beautiful build. Thoughtful decor. Amazing view. Cute dog that walked us up the trails. The staff are incredible and very accommodating, especially Belen. Breakfast is delicious.
Showers are temperamental. Heaters can’t be controlled by guest. For the price I would expect this for our own comfort. Dinner was great but for the price would love to see more diverse vegetarian main.
It’s a quiet cozy place with amazing atmosphere where they treat you like a family. Food is fantastic, fast internet, comfortable beds, plenty of hot water in shower, extremely friendly and helpful staff… and THE VIEW! Breathtaking!
Nothing. Everything was just perfect!
Amazing views and location. Essentially private hiking trails that were spectacular. Very nice staff. Internet available in main lodge area. Breakfast was good and plentiful.
The meals in general are exhorbitantly priced. $30 for a boxed lunch and $50 for dinner without a drink. The lodge is an hour from other restaurants and does not include a kitchenette. There are no snacks available for purchase in the lodge so come prepared.
Excellent quality lodge -- spectacular views of the lake; beautiful surroundings; very high quality food on site; and, above all, friendly, helpful staff before and during the trip. We had a few mishaps -- sick family members, car battery died -- and the staff helped us immediately and solved all problems.
Had an excellent stay. It was too short. Next time will stay for 3 nights. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Belén and Jessi provided lots of advice and were just great! Located in a beautiful region of southern Chile.
Out of all the hotels I’ve stayed at this is the best! Set in the stunning countryside Mallin Colorado is beautiful. The service here is outstanding - nothing is too much trouble for team, they want every guest to have a great time. The food is as good as you will find in a Michelin star restaurant but without the price tag. The rooms are very comfortable and super clean. I highly recommend to visit and include Mallin Colorado on your journey through this stunning part of Chile.
Great view and super beautiful property. Great hikes just in the backyard, dont miss them! Amazing food.
Poor lighting in the bathroom. No internet in the rooms.
Spectacularly beautiful lodge with a lovely staff! Horses and dogs, lupine, great food, friendly and helpful people, fabulous location for adventures.
Sporadic hot water in our bathroom and a sink that sprayed water around the bathroom. Need to replace the sink faucet in that room.
The best property and food on the Carratera Austral.
Nothing
Gorgeous grounds with walking trails and beautiful private beach. The staff here are the best. Belen greeted us when we arrived and gave us a tour of the property. She made sure we had everything we needed to include a bagged breakfast for our early morning journey to the Marble Caves. The meals there were incredible. Chef Venecia made the most delicious and amazing vegetarian dishes for dinner both nights. We stayed in Casa Linda and it was beautiful with views of Lake General Carrera from our room and from the common area. Playa Mallon was absolutely gorgeous and wonderful to explore. The rocks on the beach were all so beautiful!
Tidy, very comfortable and peaceful
Amazing views, stunning location, beautiful design and architecture. Lovely staff and nice food. Definitely would come back! :)
The rooms were quite cold but the community areas were very cozy.
Very professional and attentive staff. Francesco was great, and thanks to all his advice, we could make plans and do so much more than we were hoping to. Good breakfast, very good dinners, and extraordinary views.
The staff were great. Loved the place.
Heat could be a little stronger in the room and hot water was short.
Stunning! Absolutely wonderful. Very kind and helpful staff. Delicious food that seems to all be prepared from scratch in house. They were nice enough to bag our breakfast and leave it outside our door when we were leaving early for an excursion. Would highly recommend! Lovely stay.
Location overlooking the General Carrera lake with outstanding views. Excelente restaurant with fantastic breakfast and dinners
Showe in cabin had very low pressure
Angelica, the host was very welcoming and supportive of our requests… she made the difference between visiting the usual nice structure and the lack of care (this happens a lot in Chile). The human factor in this place is the perk.
We adored this charmingly decorated lodge which is set in the most splendid area with views of unspoilt scenery... Mountains and lake, with beautiful gardens all around. The staff were very accommodating for my food allergies, and we enjoyed all the meals. Our guide Anita was so enthusiastic and did everything she could to ensure we saw as much as we could during our stay, adapting the planned programme to make the best of the weather.
Last minute booking, we arrive late after a very long journey from La Junta. They had kept a delicious dinner for us and were very helpful printing our forms for the car to cross into Argentina.the filling morning.
Amazing view on Lago General Carrera, great room design with wood and amazing decorations made of wool, wood and paper. Very cozy and comfortable. Friendly stuff and lots of space for parking.
Very expensive for its value. Rooms and public locations were not treated with insects, so on terrazas were lots of gadflies and mosquitoes. Sadly, we have nothing to fight with insects and shops were closed (not many of them in this location). Also we were charged $100 for dinner which was not really worth it’s money.
The view was perfrct, the teem was very helpfull.
The brekfsat was poor, no enough hot water in the room for Shower
The food was generous and very good. The staff was fantastically helpful - when our plans fell through to see the nearby glacier the staff gave us multiple other options that we were very happy with. The view from our room (not a full cabin just the two of us) was beautiful, but the floor to ceiling windows opening out on to a shared porch wasn't ideal.
Dinner was more formal than we liked - not that it was incredibly formal, but it was just a little stuffy and old fashioned - not our thing. The real disappointment was contrasting this stay with a cabin we stayed in a bit further north on the Careterra Austral -Mallin Colorado Ecolodge was just not as good, but cost more than twice as much per night. Dinner was NOT included in our booking.com price so that is something to double check in the room description.
The position is just super and the cabana is a dream, it seems to sleep within the wood! Restaurant is good too
beautiful location, amazing dining experience
This is a great place to stay in the Patagonia. The staff was super and the tour guides are very helpful. Thank you Mallin Colorado Ecolodge for a wonderful experience.
Everything there is just amazing, the cabins, the dinners (!), the staff. We decided to stay for an extra night and could have spend even more time here. Shout out to Francesco who was extremely helpful in organizing our trip to Laguna San Rafael.
Our favorite place in Chile. Wonderful staff. Best views. Places to hike and near many attractions. Evening meals are lovely. Unique individual cabins set among the trees at the edge of Lago General Carrera.
My room it was exactly as described, incredible staff, austoning views and great food!. This is really romantic please for an anniversary or honey moon a reasobable price!
This place is as close to a heavenly haven as you can come! When we first arrived I laughed out loud to myself because I didn't think somewhere could be that beautiful. The accommodation is beautifully decorated in both the rooms and communal areas. The main part of the lodge where breakfast and dinner take place is stunning inside and out and has a really cosy homey feeling, as well as feeling grand. The wooden interior and exterior of the property are just stunning. We came in December and the bright purple and pink lupins surrounding the property made it feel like you're walking through a fairytale. All this, and then you look at the view. The views over the crystal blue Lago are just amazing. The staff were super friendly, and multi-lingual, which was very useful for us as we don't speak Spanish. The food was all prepared from scratch on site and tasted super fresh and amazing! I can't wait to visit here again in the future.
Our stay here was a highlight of our 2 months in Chile - gorgeous rooms, great staff/5 star service, delicious meals, and plenty of healthy wine pours. Puerto Río Tranquilo is a special place, a true planetary wonder... we feel so lucky our travels took us here. We stayed here in Feb 2020 but TA won’t let me choose that date so just adding this caveat on the actual date. Wonderful memorable stay!
Just wanted other travellers to know that this is a great stop off on the Austral just before the turning for Puerto Guadal. The lodges have beautiful views over the lake and mountains and are very comfortable. Good food. Whilst there, we had a bit of a medical emergency - special mention to Francesco, Herman and Viviana - all a great help in our time of need. Thanks guys.
The view, the staff, the room, the restaurant even the towels were exceptional. We would willing stay there again.
Amazing beautiful place. Our stay was great and service was outstanding. Highly recommended.
We arrived late and were fed and tucked into our cabin. The fire was started and we slept soundly. Opening the curtains the next morning was surreal. The views took our breath away. The staff bent over backwards to help us. Mona the adventure dog is just a big furbaby of love. Nearby we ventured out to see the rapidly diminishing San Rafeal Glacier, which is a full day trip of awe and wonder. Waterfalls, a walk through the park near the glacier and the awesome sound of the glacier calving. I highly recommend seeing the blue marble caves, by boat or kayak. There are bridges that must be stopped at, hikes to be started right at the lodge and don't be surprised if a horse wanders up to your porch. I recommend a minimum of 5 nights here. The fellow in charge of the kitchen is both charming and likes local sourcing. Maria, the manager, is sweet and accommodating. The home-made jellies they serve and sell are wonderful.
I'll start with the region. The Aysen region of Chile is one of the most gorgeous places I have been fortunate enough to visit with jaw dropping views wherever you go. It's not as popular as Torres del Paine; probably because the Carretera Austral is yet to be fully paved; but neither is it swarming with crowds of Americans and Europeans dripping in Patagonia sportswear. As for the lodge itself - what a hidden gem! The stunning General Carrera Lake is paces away; the Marble Caves are nearby as is Puerto Tranquilo (a starting place for many expeditions and day trips). There are beautiful hikes that can be started from the lodge, and the view from our cabin was jaw-dropping. Every day I was gob smacked by the absurdly beautiful setting; each evening I enjoyed a lovely meals and the kindness of charming and welcoming staff and management. Mona (the adventure dog) is happy to accompany guests on a hike should it originate from the lodge, and the attentive staff are more than willing happy to help with advice about bookings, experiences and the area. The only thing I regret is that we did not stay longer - only three nights. The area and the lodge are both well worth the time and effort to get there. If you visit the Mallin Colorado Ecolodge take note! Mona the dog loves peanut butter, and Maria the Operations Manager loves Reece's Peanut Butter Cups!
Of the 9 places we had booked for our drive round Northern Patagonia, this was the most expensive, and we did get the same quality of location and accommodation in a couple of other places at lower price. It is however a lovely situation, looking across to Lake General Carrera, and breakfast and dinner were of a pretty high standard. It is rather a long drive to places of interest (apart from hikes along the lake or into the hills) and the Marble Caves are apparently an hour away. It would be nice if wood stoves could be lit in advance of arrival, as our cabin took several hours to warm up. All said, this is still a great place to visit.
Sadly I am not able to recommend this as a place to visit. Beautiful site and views. Very pretty cabins. However - not prepared for our arrival. Log burner not prepped. Vacuum cleaner in the middle of the living area. Cabin felt cold and damp. Evening meal was dreadful. Staff disinterested. Lacked the super friendly atmosphere we experienced everywhere else along the Carretera.
We loved our one-night stay at Mallin Colorado! My spouse and I arrived late in the evening and were immediately welcomed by the manager. Our room was very comfortable - hot shower, very comfortable bed, and beautiful interior design that reflects the natural beauty of the area. It felt special - not cookie cutter at all. We also appreciated the nice little touches, like knit booties to borrow so as not to track mud all over, and complementary tea in the lounge room. The next morning we really took our time to enjoy the property, sitting outside on our deck soaking in views of the lake and listening to all the songbirds. We also took a nice nature walk around the property, where we saw more birds, and even a couple of rabbits. The owner's dog followed us the whole way, which was adorable. This was one of the nicest places we stayed in Aysen region (much better than what we saw on offer in Rio Tranquilo), and we would definitely return if we were in the area again!
In March 2019 my family and I stayed four nights at the lodge. Our room was clean and comfortable with a great view of Lake General Carrera. The property itself is gorgeous and has numerous hiking trails. The staff was friendly and helpful. The food was very good. The lodge is remote but it's a great base for exploring the Aysen region of Chilean Patagonia. We would definitely stay there again.
A very nice resort to stay at. The hotel is located an hour away from rio tranquilo so it's a little far if you're planning to see the the marble caves but a very nice place to enjoy the outdoors. The front desk person was very helpful...he went above and beyond on customer service. They don't accept credit cards only cash and/or PayPal. At the end it worked out great and the guy at the front desk even had an awesome breakfast waiting for us in the morning. (Wish I got his name) I would definitely recommend this hotel/resort/cabin to anyone traveling to this area since it's the nicest hotel in the area. I definitely give it a 5 stars!
This is one of our all time favorite places we've ever stayed. The property is rustic yet charming, the cabins are clean, comfortable, and many offer stunning views of the lakes and mountains. If you like the idea of a delightful, quiet, somewhat off the grid place to stay, this is your spot. The food is not gourmet, but it is decent and home cooked;they also have a small selection of wine, liquor and beer and will do anything to make your stay more comfortable. Just a great place.
We loved staying in one of the cabanas at the Mallin Colorado. We stayed about 4 nights and had a proper relax - it's a perfect jumping off spot to explore all the local sights eg the Parque Patagonia, Galcier San Rafael etc or just the lake in front of the cabana. Note there is a great little walk right behind the lodge - do not miss it as it's spectacular. Many thanks to Rita who welcomed us so warmly and helped us with everything - organising packed breakfast when we had to get up early. Also all the staff who kept the wine and pisco sours flowing!
This is a wonderful place to stay in so many ways: The kind and hospitable team (Juan, Rita, all the staff and the owners of the lodge) are very warm and friendly, making sure everything works well during your stay. The location is excellent to visit all nearby attractions, you are in the epicenter of all interesting places to visit (to the North and South). The lodge itself is great and has amazing views of the lake. I stayed at the amazing Rauli cabin, but all others are really nice. Breakfast and dinner are very good and since the lodge can only host a limited number of people, the whole experience has a personal and even warmer touch. In summary...highly recommended.
Everthing was perfect and we’ve had a relaxing time. The room was clean and individually designed by the owner! All is very new built considering ecological elements. The view onto the lake is awesome and the dinner was just excellent! Paula, Felipe and all their stuff are open-hearted, honestly and gave us insider tips for exploring further Patagonia! We heartily can recommend that place to everyone!
We stayed in the smallest cabin, for 2 people and it was very rustic and charming. The views from the cabin were stunning. The log burner was very cosy. The breakfast was very good, as were the packed lunches. However the evening meals were very poor, especially for the price charged (and there is absolutely nowhere else to go within an hours drive!) The manager was excellent and each day helped us decide what to do in the area, depending on the weather. If you do stay here don't use the directions as given by Google Maps - the lodge is not in Puerto Guadal as it states, it is between Puerto Tranquilo and Puerto Guadal - look out for the large black sign!
