Comfortable bed
Cleaner forgot to clean the toilet, £30 for one night stay with dog seemed excessive, no windows in the room.
Staff were super friendly and helpful - making sure we had the info we needed to arrive late and arranging an extra-early breakfast for our early departure. Thank you!
Room was small and the bed was a little too soft for our comfort.
Quite an attractive, light and airy room with a large wardrobe, drawers, safe and tea and coffee (which we did not use). Bed was comfortable with plenty of pillows. The room was very well lit with good bedside lamps. There was an enormous television which we did not use. Chap who greeted us was friendly and offered to carry up our cases.
The bathroom was a wet room and even with the shower on very low pressure much of the floor of the bathroom got wet. A very stupid design. The loo took about 20 minutes to fill, possibly because the room is on the. top floor and pressure is low. We failed to get the bathroom lights to work, not a huge issue as the room lights did a fairly good job at illuminating the bathroom. Breakfast was adequate but no more.
Great location! Very tidy and clean, exceptionally friendly staff who were super helpful. Cosy bedroom and comfortable bed, tea included which was nice! Generous room and bathroom size. I’d agree that’s it’s a partially ‘wet’ bathroom, but the floors dry very quickly. Breakfast is great to get your day started - fruit, cereal, pastries, coffee and a sausage butty. I felt really safe as a solo female traveller, even when coming back to the hotel after a late dinner. Would stay again!
A bit of noise creaking from upstairs guests
It's a great place in a good location - walking distances from pretty much anywhere you want to go there. The bar, the rooms and the building inside and out are all great, they look good for snapping a good photo or two. There was a drink included in the booking so that made everything even better!
Goods breakfast, friendly staff, well appointed room.
Beautifully modern comfy hotel, great location. All the staff were lovely and helpful 😊 100% recommended
Nothing everything was perfect!
It was stylish. Well located. Staff were friendly.
Our room was incredibly small. The bathroom was just a wet room. Breakfast was very simple.
Really nice decor and staff very friendly and helpful. Nice simple breakfast but did the job.
Bit tight for space but that's to be expected in a historical building.
Everything not sure what I expected and we were only there one night but I wish we could have stayed longer! The place is so great. The staff is the best...all of them were friendly and helpful. This place was truly a find. It was very clean, breakfast was clean and the room was great but the people were the best.
Character property with lovely staff. Very comfortable room with a great bed. Good breakfast selection, which was very filling. It is located close to the beach and restaurants.
Great for a night in Portsmouth alone but the room would be tight for two people. Service and breakfast were wonderful.
The bar, the breakfast facility, the decor Tea / coffee facility The bed was very comfortable The young man on reception, was very pleasant and helpful
The noise from some mechanism on the roof above our room. Broken drawer in the bathroom Window propped open with a book. It was extremely hot in the room, but staff had offered to put ice in a cooling unit. Television was complicated to use
Staff were exceptional. Was our 7 years together and they went above and beyond to make it extra special. The room was spotless with one of the comfiest beds I’ve ever stayed in. Parking outside which you have to pay for but not extortionate at all. Breakfast was lovely and loads of good options. Couldn’t recommend this place more
Shower wasn’t the best water pressure.
Loved the rustic feel of the property and unique decoration of the hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay.
The large shower head in the room was not fully working but it did not ruin our stay as the bathroom was so well decorated. No A/C just a cooler fan in this hot weather, but we understood as a listed building they have restrictions on what work they can do in the property.
Really lovely room and very comfortable bed. Fan provided which was great as it was so hot! Nice touches like water and glasses by the bed and shower toiletries. Friendly staff. Nice breakfast.
No parking provided.
It's a lovely place, staff great breakfast was good too . Unfortunately the room was too small for us which was the downside, but would definitely stay again, in a different bigger room
Our room, 5 It's so small and unable to open the window, air conditioning unit wasn't good just a small noisy fan. But spotless and clean
The staff were very friendly, good choice of breakfast and was given a beer and prosecco at check in. Staff gave local recommendations.
Unfortunately there was a private event on and the music could be heard throughout the building. We was advised of this at check in, but would have been good to know beforehand.
Lady on the reception was super lovely and helpful
One thing I would work on is the room temperature . Was super hot but besides that really nice hotel
Very clean, and easy, keyless entry to the room. Nice little courtyard with table and two chairs outside the room.
Drinks at bar very expensive, 2 coronas and a glass of wine £30 Room was very hot despite fans, an air conditioning unit would be necessary in a room like this. there's no window to open for fresh air and the fans just blew the warm air around so we left 6am the next morning. Disappointing as paid extra for the better room.
De ligging was perfect met geweldig mooi uitzicht.
Veldig sjarmerende og komfortabel. Sentral beliggenhet
Ingenting
original design ,, small pub area and games room
nothing
On whole a great experience
Air conditioning unit could have done with a clean
NICE LOCATION , GOOD HOSTS
NO AIRCONDITION , TOO HOT
Didn’t have breakfast
Left too early for breakfast!! The situation was ideal and within walking distance of many interesting areas.
Unfortunately as it was in the middle of a heatwave the low ceiling in our bedroom made it feel like an oven!
Breakfast was excellent. The staff were friendly professional and extremely helpful.
As our stay was during the heatwave the rooms were very hot and fortunately the cooling fans didn’t really cool the room sufficiently. That said we would not hold this against the establishment. We would definitely stay here again.
Such and lovely welcome by the staff. Very friendly and helpful. The building has been restored to a high level. Breakfast was delicious too. Will definitely be returning!
Nothing not to like
Friendly staff, lovely building, was walking distance to museums and the beach. Breakfast was an added bonus, very good value for the price they charge!
Had room number 2 which is a little small but fine for a short stay.
The staff were very attentive and helpful. The room was of a good size with a comfortable bed. There was a good choice for breakfast of cold food and pastries and hot food was boiled eggs and/or sausage and bacon baps.
There is no air conditioning so the room was hot but staff did provide a cooling fan. The bathroom for our room was a wet room which may be a problem for some people. It was fine for us
Becketts Townhouse enjoys an excellent location in the heart of Portsmouth and has the charm of a small boutique hotel. It has plenty of character and is well situated for exploring the city.
However, our stay was significantly affected by the lack of air conditioning. If you're visiting when temperatures exceed 25°C, I would recommend looking elsewhere. Our room became unbearably hot—warmer than a sauna—and although a fan was provided, it was nowhere near enough to make the room comfortable for sleeping. Breakfast was also disappointing. The selection was limited, there was no traditional English breakfast available, and the service left much to be desired. When we asked to be served, the staff member came across as unfriendly, which made the experience less enjoyable. The hotel could also benefit from some much-needed maintenance, particularly in the top-floor rooms where the windows and window frames are showing their age. Overall, the location is the biggest selling point, but the lack of climate control, disappointing breakfast, and need for maintenance mean I would be hesitant to stay here again—especially during the warmer months.
Great location, fabulous breakfast, lovely staff
Room was a bit too warm
Very nicely decorated hotel, helpful staff, cozy room, great location.
The breakfast is a bit short on healthy options.
Location and overall appearance
Nothing
Great location
Úžasný pokoj
Slabší snídaně
An excellent location with good food close by. Staff were exceptionally helpful and pleasant.
It was a very hot time of the year and I battled a bit with the Heat overnight.
La chambre ONE vue sur la Spinnaker tower et le côté cocooning - TV génial pour le match France-Suede 😎
La douche un peu étroite et éclaboussante
good location for walking to the sea front and to historic old town, breakfast was nice but slightly limited, room was clean and cosy
everthing was fine, you get what you pay for, its not intended to be the savoy or the ritz
Positioned well between the Isle of Wight ferry and the Guildhall. Lovely spacious room. Friendly and informative staff
I liked it all. It would be nice to have cooked eggs for breakfast .
Friendly and helpful staff. Good communication from management. Nice sized room with big King Bed. Nice included breakfast.
The property is an old but nicely renovated heritage pub/inn. It does not have air conditioning. The King bed was quite comfortable but… We were there at the tail end of a heat wave with daytime temperatures in the upper 20C range. (We hate to imagine what it would be like when it’s over 30C.) The temperature in the room was unbearably hot despite having a fan and with both windows open for ventilation. Unfortunately, the room we had, opened up onto a busy street and sidewalk tables below. This meant that with the windows open, the street and traffic noise was very intrusive making sleep very difficult & frequently disrupted through the night. After a sleepless night, we decided we could not stay there and moved on to another hotel for our remaining 2 nights in Portsmouth. The room might be quite pleasant in wintertime with the windows closed or with cooler ambient temperatures; but, in the warmer season it was quite unpleasant and not conducive to any semblance of sleep. We appreciate that it is a heritage building and air conditioning or other measures to mitigate this issue are not permitted. The staff we met were very pleased and management was quite understanding and communicative as we tried to sort through alternatives; but, in the end we had to bail & walk away early.
My room was really nice, large, and fitted out to a high-quality standard. The location was great for me - a leisurely walk to Gunwharf Quays and very close to Old Portsmouth and the sea wall. Staff were really friendly and helpful and ... breakfast is included !
Lovely restored property with comfortable rooms. Very gracious staff.
The feel of the accommodation was lovely. We attended a wedding which was fabulous but found it a bit of a squeeze downstairs when the couple were doing their first dance. People were even queueing all the way down the stairs which was a bit of a hazzard... For the price, would have expected more of a hot choice for breakfast but what we had was fine and the staff were amazing.
location of this b&b was very good, it was a quaint property and bedroom, breakfast was very good, with good choices, altogether it was lovely
nothing, as we say, you get what you pay for
Great customer service. Wonderful breakfast, room very comfortable. Location spot on for visiting Southsea and Portsmouth, with it's Historic dock yard and shopping. All walkable.
Das kleine Hotel macht einen überzeugenden Gesamteindruck. Alles passt super zusammen.
Near a pub round the corner that does nice food
Its a dolls house hotel. Rooms super small. I mean very small. Bathroom tiny. Bed horrifical uncomfortable. They dont serve dinner food to guests as they are doing parties for others. Breakfast basic. Asked about storing luggage at check out they said no one would be there but they could stick the cases in the toilets. Really disapointing and misled by the booking.com rating which lead to choosing it.
Place is beautiful and the lads who seen us in and the girl who sorted breakfast were fantastic and helpful
Nothing not to like the place is great.
The staff were hospitable and always acknowledged your presence even if they were busy.
Upon check-in I felt the venue was understaffed (but it was handled well by the barman/hotel front desk). Having to provide a specific time for breakfast felt a little restrictive. It would have been even better if we had more towels for the two of us staying.
The staff was lovely and the room really nice. While it was professional like a regular hotel, the staff felt mich more like a little private place in town. The mattress was really comfortable which I find uncommon for a hotel.
The first night the music from the adjacent bar was a bit distracting. To be precise, not so much the music, as we hardly heard it (volume was okay) but the bass. It seems to me that they have set the bass of their speakers a tad high so the vibration and bassy beats came through the walls which was a bit annoying. However, at 10 sharp this stopped and didn't reoccur on the following nights.
Everything about this place was fantastic, excellent location and friendly staff will definitely be booking again.
There is nothing to dislike it's a perfect place to stay
Excellent breakfast. Choice was more than adequate for a typical traveller. The bed was very comfortable and massive
Bathroom floor gets very wet because it’s a wet room. Needs a mat of some description in case you slip.
Location, comfy bed, helpful friendly staff.
Had superior king room at top - bathroom wasn’t great. Not enclosed so lack of privacy. Double sink took up too much room making toilet space very cramped & shower not very powerful or practical. Continental breakfast was very basic- no fresh bread/ cheese/ ham.
Nice room. Good location.
Clean
Nothing
Welcoming, friendly staff. Clean
Room was a little too warm even with the air conditioning.
Very stylish and comfortable
Lovely welcome ,clean and tidy ,lovely breakfast .
The bed was so comfortable I booked the hotel twice!!
Good location ,quiet night sleep
N/A
The setting is very cool, you feel like you are on an historic boat. All the rooms were covered in hardwood, which I loved. Everything was clean and the staff was really nice. Breakfast was compact but enough and with much quality.
The sink emptied very slow and the toilet was slow to refill the tank. Very nit pick, as they still worked fine after all.
Friendly staff, location
The room was too claustrophobic. Not a suite as advertised
The breakfast was lovely and included cereal, toast, fruit and pastries. We were expecting a full English and there were only breakfast baps on offer. The location and parking were good. The room was very clean. The staff were friendly.
We stayed in room 5 which was very small. The mattress on the bed was uncomfortable as it was too soft and we rolled together in the middle. There was a wet room and when showering it got everything wet including the toilet, towels etc. The drawer in bathroom was difficult to close.
Lovely decor and the most comfortable bed. Breakfast is great and relaxed feeling everywhere.
A little bit noisy at the front with cars or when people are outside. Perhaps warn guests before arrival if private function downstairs.
Great location and room was a good size. Loved the electric shutters
Extraction in hotel room didn’t work as there are no windows in the bathroom, ventilation was a tricky balance
Great location in a unique old building
Personnel sympathique Chambre propre
Friendly and helpful staff. Great location.
Mooi en modern
Ontbijt een beetje simpel, eenvoudig
Modern decor throughout. Lovely friendly staff. Very clean in all areas.
There was nothing we could fault with thile place
Location. Friendly staff. Comfort of bed.
The room was small so moving around the bed wasn't easy
Alles. Es war super freundlich, top Lage, das Zimmer war ok. Wir waren sehr zufrieden und können es nur weiterempfehlen
Eigentlich nichts. Es war alles top 👍
Great breakfast, everything fresh and gluten free option, friendly helpful staff, amazing hotel
Nothing
Location is fantastic and the building itself is beautiful. Overall cleanliness was great. The room gets hot as you can’t fully open the sash windows but they provide fans. It’s a key code entry which is great.
The toilet did not flush properly which is more of an issue as the bathroom is not a separate room. It is partitioned off with glass screens that do not reach the ceiling. The grout on the floor of the shower was old and dirty. Shower was not powerful and was very small. Due to it being a wet room the toilet area gets wet once you’ve had a shower. Toiletries were tiny. The bed (we had the superior king room) definitely dips either side so is higher in the middle.
Wonderful breakfast and staff. Easy paid parking across the street
Thin was and inconsiderate guest next door up until 3am
A gorgeous little wine bar with the most beautiful bedrooms. VERY comfy bed. Lovely friendly staff. Great location for sightseeing & lots of bars, shops & restaurants close by. Definitely recommend.
Great location for exploring Portsmouth and the surrounding area. We liked the style of the property, our room was clean and comfortable.
Probably the most underwhelming breakfast we have had anywhere. Appeared to be a lack of staff, we actually walked out of the bar on the Saturday eve as no staff behind the bar to serve us. Road noise and noise from the room above do not make for relaxing place to stay.
very friendly and homely atmosphere
Convenient location for visiting our daughter at Portsmouth University. Also convenient for the tourist sights. Staff were very helpful. Breakfast was fine. More hot choices would have been nice.
Poor water pressure in shower. Toilet took a long time to flush. Bed had a big dip on one side.
Stylish interior, small and quiet, the mattress and pillows were super comfy
Shower space was ever so slightly small for the larger framed
Becketts is a converted townhouse with restaurant/ bar on the ground floor. It is in a good , safe location, an easy walk to tourist attractions and shops. The staff was helpful, providing a good orientation, and the free continental breakfast was quite good and hearty. Also the bed was quite comfortable and the tv a nice large screen.
My bathroom was quite small, with shower drain in the middle of the floor, hand held shower. I didn’t use the shower because everything would get wet.
Character and location
Room 5 very small, buzzing noise all night
The room was wonderful and the staff were polite and friendly, the decor and layout of the venue was also very cosy. The stand out person was a young gentleman named Felix, very professional, very understanding and attentive my score would have been lower if it wasn't for Felix.
We were disappointed with our recent stay, particularly given that we spent over £200 for one night. Upon arrival, we were not informed in advance that the venue was hosting two private functions. Instead, we were greeted with a note on the front door stating that the premises were closed due to these events. To the left of the main entrance was a separate door labelled “reservations,” equipped with a doorbell. After reading the notice, I rang the bell, assuming this was the correct procedure. A member of staff responded and, when I explained that we had a booking, I was told, “See that door handle under the doorbell? Give that a twist and open the door.” I found this response unnecessarily condescending and unprofessional. Due to the private functions, my wife and I had to walk through a family celebration, which felt intrusive and created an uncomfortable atmosphere. We were then seated in a small breakfast area, effectively separated from the rest of the venue. As we had chosen this stay to celebrate my wife’s 40th birthday in Portsmouth, an area we both love, this was particularly disappointing. While we appreciated the complimentary bottle of Peroni and glass of prosecco, which was a thoughtful gesture, there were also cleanliness concerns. Under the bed, we found a dirty sock, a build-up of dust, and a half-used bottle of shower gel. The remainder of the room was clean, but these oversights detracted from the overall experience. Felix, a member of staff, did look after us well, and the younger team members were a positive aspect of the stay. The décor and layout of the venue were also appealing. However, the breakfast offering, although included, was quite limited, consisting of basic options such as fruit, pastries, toast, boiled eggs, or a simple bacon or sausage bap. Overall, while there were some positive elements, the experience did not meet expectations, and greater attention to communication, service, and detail would significantly improve the stay.
Nice room and comfortable bed.
Very noisy, not the best place for relaxation
