Although the hotel is 'tired' externally, it has been redecorated internally and is located near to the coastline

We were given a 'so called' double room but was only big enough to be a single. The door to the shower room wouldn't open far enough because it hit the very narrow double bed. No facilities in the shower room to hang or dry towels or to hang clothes. Nowhere to place toiletries except for a sloping glass shelf over the sink. No provision of a kettle so we had to make do with a coffee maker that heated one cup at a time. Breakfast was very poor with a bowlful of rotten, over ripe bananas and poor provision of other fruit except for apples and oranges.

Food was average (dinner) to poor (breakfast). Had been pre-advised that Wednesdays were fish & chips for dinner: would have been better walking down the road to the chippy. Breakfast next day was very poor.

Room clean, staff friendly and attentive, the restaurant was lovely good breakfast and we had dinner there too. Nice to have a place to chill in the bar/games area as well. Onsite parking.

The bed was too small, my partner is 6ft and his feet hung off the end and mattress quite soft. Also the room was sweltering, AC didn't work, no fan and the window only opened a bit so our sleep was so so. 280 for 2 nights felt quite expensive.

Breakfast was fine, nothing special but no complaints

Our room was very comfortable with a fabulous sea view. The location was great with a bus service just outside the hotel. We got a day ticket and it allowed us to travel to most of the villages along the coast.

The servicing of the room was hit and miss. One day we had clean towels dumped on our ummade bed, the dirty towels were not removed and nothing was cleaned. On the other days it was cleaned to a good standard. The restaurant was not quite as shown on the website, with mediocre food at best, although the portions were huge.

Position was good for exploring the area by car. The room was basic but comfortable and in a good condition.

The WiFi could have been better, we often lost connectivity. The outside of the building needs some clean-up and fresh paint.

Good location person who checked us in Called Scott could not be more helpful

The Room had a very strong smell of damp although visually it was extremely clean when leaving the next day all our clothes and belongings were stinking. I left a phone charger in the room by mistake called within 2 hours of checking out and was assured they would check for me and call back within the hour and the girl did not. I then called another twice and spoke to another two separate girls who also said they would call back but they could not see it in lost property and still no call back to this day! And no charger been returned to me.

Lovely place, room perfect for our needs and staff helpful and friendly.

Curtains did not close properly. Hairs in shower base. TV not working. Very poor WIFI connection. Paper thin walls= bad sound insulation. Poor waitering service. Loud music on Saturday night from the bar , stopping sleep and peace&quiet.

Excellent breakfast. Very nice room with firm mattress. Very clean.

Double bed a bit small. Harbour is 15 min away from property. Our room was on the first floor so it was quite noisy till 11pm and the we could hear the chats from the customers.

Everything was spot on. Lovely hotel, great location, friendly helpful staff. Room 9 was really spacious with big comfy bed and nice clean decor. great bathroom. Would definitely recommend this hotel if u find yourself in Crail.

Die Lage ist gut. Man hat einen Parkplatz direkt am Hotel. Der Check-in ist unproblematisch und der Empfang war nett. Das Essen im Hotelrestaurant war am ersten Abend gut. Die Auswahl auf der Karte entsprach einem durchschnittlichen Pub. Mittwochs ist im Lokal Fish-and-Chips-Tag, d. h. es gibt wirklich nur das. Wir wurden allerdings schon am Abend vorher darauf hingewiesen und sind trotzdem zum Essen in der Unterkunft geblieben. War ok, aber muss man mögen. Das Zimmer ist eher puristisch ausgestattet, das WiFi war allerdings super. Die Fenster konnten einen kleinen Spalt geöffnet werden. In der Gegend gib es wunderbare Golfplätze.

Im Großen und Ganzen entsprach alles den Erwartungen. Den Meerblick muss man nicht zwingend buchen, weil das Wasser hinter einer Häuserreihe nur klein am Horizont zu sehen ist. Fenster, die nicht ordentlich aufgehen, ärgern mich immer. Der Fernseher ist nicht mehr zeitgemäß. Das Frühstück war am ersten Tag etwas schwierig: Es gab erst auf Nachfrage und nach längerer Wartezeit eine Alternative zu Kamillentee, die Milch ebenfalls war alle und musste auch aktiv nachbestellt werden. Am zweiten Tag hat es allerdings mit anderer Bedienung viel besser funktioniert.

Établissement propre et bien placé. Chambre grande ce qui est assez rare en Ecosse. Très bon petit-déjeuner.

Vue depuis la chambre sur un camping. Salle de bain toute petite. Attention les literies notées King size sont en fait plus petites qu'en France. Un peu bruyant quand les autres voyageurs entrent dans leurs chambres. Un peu trop cher pour ce standing.

There is no lift which was a pain trudging luggage upstairs in a long dress and heels. There is a stour smell in the hotel. Service is very slow and not that friendly. I had to go up to the bar to ask if someone could take my breakfast order after waiting a while, despite sitting at a table right in front of the bar area, the young woman said once I asked “oh, you would like food?” It was breakfast time, I was sitting at a table laid for breakfast. I had to ask for coffee as no one had said the coffee, cereals etc were at the back of the room, had to ask for salt, breakfast order was incorrect but I didn’t bother complaining. Whilst eating my breakfast the manager called over the bar area to tell me booking.com had not taken my payment which I already knew as I had selected to pay at the hotel. I just checked out without finishing breakfast. I was also charged £20 for an early check in, even though there were rooms ready. I was going to a wedding for 1PM and you can’t check in after 9PM (according to the website), I had emailed the hotel before arriving and tried calling regarding check in but had no response.

My husband 77 myself 81 we had room 12 top floor. Due to my husbands health 50b odd stairs not good.

Loved the seaside location and view from the room! Breakfast was delicious and staff were kind and helpful.

The room was very hot and stuffy and I had trouble sleeping without a fan on offer. Plus with the many hours of daylight it was hard to sleep in a non-dark room.

Needed a few bits of maintenance, but it didn’t detract from our stay.

Very clean and lovely staff. Was very accommodating and helpful when we were there for a wedding and wouldn’t be able to arrive until late at night.

Old building not well renovated. Staircases are 1950 as is the carpet. Bathroom was tiny. Not even a stand to put suitcase on. Breakfast starts at 8am - really , what world are they living in. Hot water was supposed to start at 7am well good luck I had none at 7.45. Price is way too high for such a hotel - should be ca 40% less. Staff are OK but need to less in a rush. Did not have a meal - just round corner in Anstruther harbour is one of top rated Fish and Chip shops in UK.

Lovely meal and drinks , served by attentive staff

Perfect location for us, comfortable and very clean. The staff were attentive at check in and we enjoyed a lovely meal in the restaurant in the evening.

We were booked for the weekend 29-31 May for a group of 10 family members as we were attending a Wedding nearby in Crail. We all had a wonderful experience and Scott the Manager made us all feel very welcome and relaxed. The rooms were spacious and we were on the 2nd floor and had a view over the sea. Breakfast was abundant and fast for the hot stuff. The hotel is ideally located for walking into town.

Poor kerb appeal, building needs painting and the external areas need attention. The hotel has been refurbished internally and is very good, so I guess you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover.

Staff were lovely, beds were comfy and room was very spacious.

The rooms felt like they could have been just a wee but cleaner, a little dusty and wee bit of mildew build up on the shower tray

Die Lage ist gut (400 m zur Dorfmitte), ausreichend Parkplätze am Hotel vorhanden.

Als erstes hat uns die sehr spartanische Ausstattung der Zimmer missfallen. Des Weiteren war das Frühstück ziemlich "dünne". Es gab zwar gutes warmes Angebot, aber sonst nicht viel mehr (Cornflakes, Müsli, Joghurt etc.).

Die Unterkunft war lange nicht so attraktiv, wie es auf den Bildern herüber kam. Die Außenfassade war sehr ungepflegt und das Essen am Abend war sehr schlecht

we didn't stay but went for a birthday meal. The service was average. We ordered our meals and 1 person asked for peas and carrots instead of broccoli and mange tout as they didn't like mange tout. The meals all came with peas only, when asked about the carrots we were told there wasn't any, the person having the broccoli and mange tout only got broccoli ( which had to be sent back as it was freezing) - there was no mange tout.!!!! service was slow and the waitress not very communicative - weren't told soup of the day or the cheesecake of the day. One person asked for coffee and was later told 'sorry we have run out of coffee beans! I think that the machine had been switched off for the night and they couldn't be bothered switching it back on! Food was ok despite their claim 'While we don’t take ourselves too seriously at The Bal, we do take what goes on our plates very seriously indeed. Our Chef, Elaine Crosby, produces food that satisfies the eye, palate and wallet - all freshly cooked to order. So, if you’re looking for proper pub grub done with proper care, consideration and flair, you’ll know to book at The Balcomie.

The beds were a bit small. Breakfast was good but with limited options.

Great location and nice welcome on arrival

No hot water in the morning. This was due to human error but not ideal. Could have had a few more options on the cooked breakfast. Also it was difficult to get in the side door after hours as the door handle seemed to be broken. A staff member let us in but that needs looking at.

Staff were excellent, the inside of the building was really good. Lovely view from my room. Bed was unbelievably comfortable.

I would have liked a draft IPA at the bar. The building is really classy and inside it was superb. I do think the exterior of the building could do with being painted, first impressions are everything.

The location and views from our bedroom were perfect.

On both days the shower did not give hot water. It was Luke warm and we could not control this. It was reported to Scott and he got back to us saying he reset the boiler. That was as much as we got to sort out being able to enjoy a HOT shower.

Breakfast was ok, small hotel so not extensive continental breakfast.

Soundproofing in rooms not great. Wooden floors meant you heard chairs scraping when being moved.

Everything was spotless. Staff were very helpful. Lovely bar area and beer garden. Will be staying again. A short walk to the harbour and lovely village of Crail.

Location good Breakfast very disappointing for my husband. Phoned twice before arrival to inform husband gluten/dairy free. No gluten free bread on last day no cereal for whole stay . No gluten free sausages available. No effort made on first day to rectify for following breakfasts . No oat /almond or coconut milk No dairy free butter Couldn’t get coffee as no alternative milk! These everyday things for a hotel are readily available to get in most shops. Just disappointed nobody took onboard my requests.

Breakfast not great. “Smashed avocado” looked and tasted like green paste. Full Scottish was scummy and no toast or any offered.

Wir wurden nicht über die Frühstückzeiten informiert. Um 9.25 am gab es nichts mehr. 9.15 war anscheinend fertig. Keine Ausnahme. Auch hatte es keinen Föhn, obwohl ein solcher in der Ausstattung erwähnt wurde.

We were attending a wedding and needed accommodation the week of the Dunhill. Breakfast was excellent and Scott was great, nothing was too much bother, cheery and efficient.
