Breakfast: good choice. Diner: menu could be a bit more extensive.
Room 209 had a tatty makeshift bathroom blind as original had been broken. Bed was quite hard. Room door needs attention as very difficult to close from both sides.
The overall ambience of the hotel was excellent throughout. There are plenty of public rooms, all furnished comfortably and when weather permits there is plenty of outside space and a great view to go with it. Our room was better than expected with plenty of thoughtful touches. All the staff were friendly and very helpful, nothing was too much trouble.
Parking is limited.
Total perfection.
Nothing.
Beautiful hotel in a perfect location. My room was gorgeous. The staff were so friendly.
The restaurant is chaotic both in the evening but particularly so at breakfast. I waited 40 minutes for a cooked breakfast. Also the dinners are very expensive.
Great location to Welsh show
Staff not very helpful
Location was fabulous. We had a wonderful view of Pen Y Fan from our room 206. Lovely staff, food… definitely recommend
Nothing
Beautiful property , lovely decor .
The position and the quirky rooms,
Our mattress in room 111 was shocking ! Very lumpy and one particular lump just on my hip. I ended up with a lump and a bruise. I did tell the girl on reception who said it would be changed but had no interest in my poor hip and pain. There had been before we arrived clearly a spill on the stairs. It was not cleaned up in the next two nights we were there which was a disappointment in such a nice hotel.
Receptionist ensured that she tried to accommodate my request for a room with a view, and did a brilliant job
Nothing, just a brilliant place
Spotless room, comfortable & wonderfully helpful reception staff
Stayed in deluxe bedroom Room 115. Would highly recommend. Most beautiful views over looking mountains. High quality furnishings. Couldn't fault service in restaurant. Food high end.
Nothing
It was very close to the town. Great news from the dining room It was quiet.
Parking could be a bit tricky if it was fully booked, there wasn’t a space when we arrived, but the manager came and found us one
The dining area and the large lounge and smaller quieter lounges where you can relax and eat your meal. The beautiful view from the outside garden. The staff and waiting staff so chatty and helpful. Room was spacious and comfortable. The main staircase though could do with attention carpet stained and needed a hoovering and a dusting. A very pleasant walk into Brecon town and nearby cathedral. The stunning drive from Abergavenny through Crickhowell is memorable.
As mentioned above. The main stair carpet heavily stained. I did initially request a room with a view of the beacons but got a nice room overlooking the car park!!!! The floorboards are extremely creaky in our bedroom and the one above our room.
The floorboards in the room above mine were incredibly creaky and loud!
Great location
A little tired in places
Decorated with style and good taste perfect location

The setting is beautiful. Had a lovely view of the mountains from our room and the hotel itself was stunning. Bedroom was lovely with a nice sized bath
Booked a superior double room, unfortunately the bed was two twin beds strapped together which wasn't very comfortable and the food was mid. If I stayed again I would go out into Brecon to eat.
Excellent
Only one pillow each
Amazing view, the hotel felt premium from start to finish. The room design was beautiful, the service was excellent, and overall vibe was relaxing. It was worth every penny. 😊
I liked everything about the property.
Good accommodation, nice staff. We loved Sue, the breakfast host! Breakfast (options to choose from) was very good. Everything you could need on your stay is provided in the room, even an umbrella.
Central in Brecon with access to the National park. Can walk straight into Taff Trail from hotel. River and cabal walk. Birdlife on the river was well worth looking out for. Spacious Good breakfast Beautiful views of Pen y fan from the dining room
Dinner a little disappointing Basic and a lot of use of butter
Everything.. excellent
Nothing not to like
The majority of the staff we encountered were really friendly and welcoming, and the staff in the restaurant in particular were brilliant. They were attentive, helpful and made our experience there really enjoyable. The only disappointment was our check-in experience. The lady who checked us in wasn’t particularly welcoming and gave us very little information about our stay. We weren’t told that the sofa bed in our room needed to be pulled out ourselves, where we needed to go for breakfast, or given the option to book a table in the restaurant for dinner. I appreciate these are fairly minor things, but not knowing about the sofa bed meant we had to make another trip back to reception to ask about it. While there, I overheard the General Manager checking in another couple and they were given all of this information, which highlighted the difference in our own check-in experience.
We stayed in Room 502, which was very spacious, nicely decorated and had comfortable beds. On first impressions, we were really pleased with the room. Unfortunately, there were a couple of maintenance/cleanliness issues. When we turned the shower on, the shower tray quickly began filling with water and wasn’t draining properly. My partner removed the drain cover and found a large clump of hair underneath. Once he removed this, the shower drained normally, but this is something that really should have been picked up during cleaning before the room was given to us. The toilet seat was also broken and would slide to the side when being used. Again, not a major issue on its own, but it did give the impression that some basic maintenance checks had been missed.
Good food, very helpful staff, was shown where CCTV was to show where it was safe to park my motorcycle, good location with very good views, very comfortable bed, but free WIFI. Thank you

Wanted to stay in a hotel which we were accustomed to visiting many years ago. This was a trip down memory lane when used as a venue for Brecon Jazz. Enjoyed views from garden & dining room and being in historic part of town.
Taken over by Hotel chain and renovated in a style that was possibly the same in hotels throughout the company. No recognition of history or association with locality. Had requested a room which was in a quiet area away from any kitchen or restaurant noise with windows. This was confirmed but on checking in we found we had been allocated one which overlooked the extractor fans from the kitchen which would have been both noisy and smelly. Room was changed on request but no offer of help with luggage as we normally have in places we have stayed. Double room quite small. Ate out in the evening but returned to bar for a drink before retiring. Husband asked for a Welsh Whisky, Penderyn, but bar staff hadn't heard of it even though it can be easily found in supermarkets. Breakfast fare was good but service very slow. Dining chairs too low and poor design for tables. Expensive in comparison with other hotels we have stayed at.
Room was very small
I personally can't fault room 207.Nicely furnished and kept in line with the Building Character/ History.
A day prior my arrival I asked for dairy replacement option Via booking .com message service due to vocal issues. Despite 2 contacts no note was taken and sadly I started my morning with no brew despite amazing brew facilities in the room I booked otherwise. On leaving I highlighted this issue ..apologies we're received and it appeared to be a staffing issues and training matter that booking .com messages were not checked by staff. Its not the end of the world..but it would have been nice to have a brew offered before I got on the road. Maybe next time its hence a slight reduction in scoring.
The common areas of the hotel - lounge, bar, terrace and restaurant were all wonderful. All the staff were friendly and helpful
Location is lovely. Rooms are very comfortable. Food on the whole was very good. Dog friendly. Sunday lunch was excellent and served into the evening, late checkout was great.
Tables were not cleared and so we sat looking at dirty plates and glasses during our meals. I cleared our own table in the end.
Central, pleasant helpful staff, extremely good decor and facilities.
Nothing - be very happy to stay there again. Now looking to stay in other hotels in the group.
Location was good
Rooms were very small, not very well lit. Bathroom was ok.
The hotel was stunning and the room we had was perfect having everything we needed. The bed was really comfortable and the bathroom was lovely decorated with a walk in shower.
There’s nothing I could say that was wrong with the hotel in my experience.
Beautifully refurbed rooms. The dining room is devine and the food delicious. Lovely helpful staff. Manager always about and happy for feedback. Dog was very welcomed. Altho can’t eat in the dining room with dog they’re accommodated everywhere else. We had a family room which was nice ideal for three of us plus the dog. Highly recommend it. Just so lovely.
Nothing. Just a shame the two days we stayed were the only cooler days of the summer holiday so couldn’t sit out as much.
The staff were really friendly and helpful , catering for all dietary requirements . Rooms were clean and bed was really comfortable, bathroom immaculate with good shower gel, shampoo conditioner supplied, also equipped with good selection of tea/coffee including a nesspreso machine so quality coffee in the morning , a good varied selection of cooked breakfasts too. Views were fabulous from the room, dining room and terrace outside , overall great stay .
It was very hot in there and this was on the cooler days after the heatwave.
Stunning property with immaculate rooms in a great location with spectacular views
Check in and payments were a bit confused
Beautifully decorated, the dining room is fabulous! Good food, friendly staff. Lovely superking bed.
We stayed during the heatwave and they did supply the room with a fan but we couldn’t open the bathroom window and found it difficult to get dressed as the room was stiflingly hot. I understand it’s an old building, but at this price the rooms should have air conditioning.
Fabulous hotel
Beautiful hotel where attention has been made to detail

A stunning Hotel in a wonderful location. The staff were professional, attentive and friendly. The food was fabulous and our room was beautifully decorated to a high standard. Would highly recommend

Struttura deliziosa, molto accogliente, in stile caratteristico ma moderno. Molto tranquillo.
I loved the design of the old architecture and the interior the staff were lovely welcoming and friendly, easily accessible to get to the town and has facilities there for food and drink ! the room was beautiful and breakfast was superb
limited parking and we went when it was quite hot and only had a fan on the light in the room, but we didn’t ask reception if they had any spares so i don’t know if they could have accommodated this ! and the bathroom in small areas needed a bit more of a clean
Room was too hot even with 4 fans on. We left a charger and they refused to post it back even when we offered to pay postage. They suggested we come and get it. Just not a good experience at all.
Air con in such a stuffy room. Better staff and better food.
Lovely location very central in the town with amazing views.
There was no car parking facilities as the car park was full. We had to park far away. When we questioned this, the staff said it could have been visitors using the restraunt. When we looked in the restraunt there were only a few inside. We think it was full as, it was Brecon Jazz festival wk end. Priority should be given to guests staying at the hotel ? Why do they ask for your car registration for parking , if they don't facilitate the customers needs. We had angry residents saying we couldn't park outside their houses, it was not because of permit holders either.
Lovely place and a great stay. Olivia on front desk was incredibly welcoming, helpful and accommodating to our every need.
Great location and very comfortable
Pillows were too flat
Very clean and comfortable and staff very friendly and helpful good location for attending events at the Jazz Festival. Room was spacious and good that we were located in the old stable bloc away from the noise of the outside gigs.
Service was a little slow in the dining room especially on Saturday evening but then it was a festival weekend so very busy. Redecoration and repurposing of the ballroom by the new management was disappointing , as was the large marquee in the garden which ruined the view of the Beacons. The fringe music events outside (not Jazz gigs) were too loud and iintrusive when dining. The towel rail wasn't working in our bathroom so it was hard to dry towels. (We were told the mantenaince man had left suddenly). The over the top victoriana style decoration (epecially the heavily ornate headboard which was a potential hazard ) was not to our taste and it was odd having two floors - the tea making facility was in a small kitchenette downstairs and the sleeping area was up a spiral staircase. Luckily despite being in our seventies we are quite mobile - it would have been a challenge for anyone with mobility issues so if you need an accessible room don't book this one!
Excellent breakfast and dinner and friendly staff.
The car park is a bit small and not really any options for on-road parking.
Hotel incroyablement confortable.
Rien. Tout est parfait
Great views .Comfortable with interesting and tasty interior deco.Spacious too.Staf willing to attend to guests needs. Food was also excellent.

Very friendly staff , great location , wonderful views from the garden, relaxed atmosphere in the hotel and good food and beer.
I come from Brecon, have known this hotel for years and we have stayed before. I love it. It is a wonderful old building, with a lovely garden in a very beautiful setting. Each time we have stayed we have had a room with a stunning view of the mountains and river and rooftops of Brecon. The rooms are spacious and light, and the staff are amazing - they could not do more to help. The room was extremely clean and the facilities were good: wonderful bath products, generous tea & coffee supplies and good-sized towels. In the room there was a book with a modern twist on local myths, a really nice retro-look DAB radio, and a nespresso-type coffee/pod machine (as wll as kettle), plus more standard things like a TV that worked very well, a fan (there is no air con), plenty of plugs, a hairdryer, an iron/ironing board and excellent wifi. The shower worked very well too, although the floor of it was extremely slippery - there is a shower mat though. The hotel is very close to the centre of Brecon - pretty much in the centre - and to river walks and the cathedral. It has a beautiful garden. Breakfasts were very good. Plenty of parking.
I like the way the public rooms have been opened out but -I will be in a minority here - I did not much like the style of the room renovation; I prefered the ever-so-slightly-wonky old style. Unfortunately the playful retro floral look (I think that was the theme) didn't work for me and it didn't always work with the room or, in the case of the chairs, add to its comfort. It felt like there should have been more thought put in as to how people move round the space they have in their room. But it didn't take away from the overall charm of the building. I think I would have liked to have seen more emphasis on basic things: the pillows were very uncomfortable - hard foam wedges - fine if you like that sort of thing but there was no variety to them for those who don't. The bottom sheet and mattress protector were way too small for the bed. People who sleep badly won't feel like giving a perfect review. It was great that one window opened slightly but two opening would have helped with the hot temperatures. I had a great stay overall though.
Breakfast was very good
Excellent location, decor and facilities were beautiful.
Location history and atmosphere
Beautiful location with views from the dining room and garden. Comfortable bed and a spotless bathroom with new fittings to a high standard. Cold breakfast options were varied and good quality, with really welcoming breakfast staff. When I asked to move rooms because of the noise from the kitchen extractor units, the member of staff on duty arranged for the fans to be switched off as soon as possible after service and also moved me for the next night.
Avoid room 110 - the window opens onto the kitchen extractors, so very noisy and also quite dark, despite the pretty view of the castle wall. Both double rooms I had were really small - room to walk round the bed but nowhere to put a suitcase and no space to sit and relax. For a high-end price, I was expecting more space and some flexibilty in the room use, such as a couple of chairs. There was one stool. If you are only using the room to sleep in, it won't be an issue.
Great location, stunning views over Brecon and the Beacons. Our room, one of the cottage rooms? Was excellent, well furnished and comfortable. Our dog joined us for the stay and was delighted to find treats and a toy waiting for him. The staff were all friendly, the receptionist in particular was a credit to the hotel.
The only criticism we have is the bar prices are unreasonably high, perhaps management could look at this as, if they were more competitive, we are sure they would capture a lot more local visitors.
Lovely decor
Price excessive
Lovely decor in the bedroom and dining room and fantastic view to penyfan.
Breakfast was expensive, I would have been happy to pay for just toast with coffee
The location is stunning, the refurb has made such a difference, it was lovely to come back! The reception staff need a special mention as they were incredibly accommodating and lovely.
Prachtig buiten. Mooie ruime kamers. Hond is welkom
lovely refurbished old hote;
inexperienced staff
Good location, beautiful place and room and great staff
The floorboards were exceptionally squeaky and we could hear the people above us every time they walked around which didn’t make for a good night sleep given apparently they were trying to get their steps in throughout the night
The hotel has been 'revamped' since I stayed there previously and the transformation is very noticeable. I must mention the degree of how 'Dog Friendly' the hotel has gone. When we got to our room, which incidentally was excellent, the hotel had provided a box of dog gifts for each dog. This included a container of treats, a small toy, poo bags as well as a metal bowl for water. The restaurant also has a dog menu. Outstanding. The room was large, clean and comfortable with everything we needed. Most of the staff were courteous and very helpful. Breakfast was good. The hotel is situated 5 minutes walk to the town centre and a few minutes walk to the river. Perfect.
I found that one of the staff seemed to me like she didn't really want to be there.
Location, views, internal decor
Not enough staff, long waits at the bar, 2bar staff on only one serving the bar queue. Reception staff needing to walk off regularly to help customers or communicate with other staff members - although all were friends and polite they were apologising for having the customer wait which is not their fault. Also the breakfast last twice I stayed they had no mushrooms, evening meals are amazing but breakfast whilst nice doesn’t compare.
Great location, great views, very comfortable room, modern. Lovely restaurant bar and terrace. Good food. Very good breakfast. Staff very helpful.
Front of house staff were very kind and helpful.
Very little. I slept on a sofa bed which wasn’t as comfy as the double bed but our accommodation was perfect in every other way.
Is in the towy of Brecon to walk to shops great place
quiet and clean. great breakfast
The hotel was great and the location was excellent . The staff were helpful, the rooms were very comfortable The hotel was very quirky by design.
The property was gorgeous! So clean and full of so much charm. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. We ate dinner and breakfasts at the hotel and the service was great and the food was amazing! The rooms had loads of little attentions to detail - radio playing when we arrived, lots of tea and coffee supplies and just simply so lovely and very very clean! So worth the price. Will definitely stay again when exploring :)
Beautiful decor, amazing views, excellent food!
Nothing, it was perfect!
The decor and options for dining/ seating and views. Proximity to town. Thank goodness for two members of staff, we think their names were Jason and Elwyn. Apologies to them if we misremembered. They were polite, professional and helpful. Nothing too much trouble, and smiley.
Reception greeting, not at all welcoming. Either times when approached. It quite set up the expectation of the stay . Then unfortunately we were told that we could not have food at lunch time because the service was affected by having to serve a function of 50. Would have been nice to have had prior warning. However eventually we were allowed to order. Overall the customer service requires some further training. When asked directions for areas in the town or information regarding the hotel the majority of staff Stated they could not help as they were not local. Nothing even a map was offered. The common areas on the staircase were stained and littered.
The bar, restaurant and outside area were wonderful
Relaxed, friendly ambience, helpful staff, beautiful, well-kept grounds. Fact that it is pet-friendly and mobility aware. Loved the mad decor! A refreshing antidote to the soulless multi-national chain hotels! Comfy areas where you could relax to chat, read, play Scrabble, cards etc were a boon.
Room needed more ventilation, bathroom windows didn't open. At least a fan in this weather (mid 20s) would have been nice. Option of a sheet to sleep under as duvets too heavy in these temperatures. (Mirror was red hot from the light surrounding it! - fire hazard? And switch to turn off was impossible to find. Room 212).
The room was very good. The decor was amazing the facilities were very good, inc. coffee machine, kettle, TV and Radio. I had a kitchen, living room and bedroom which were all very good sized for the value. The bathroom was very good very modern, with some high range wash products and good towels.
The room could have done with the widows being opened before as it seemed a bit musty, but they did have a fan on to try and circulate the air but it wasn't the best.
Location
Small room
Lovely breakfast in a lovely setting. Bedroom v comfortable. I arrived late at night and room was very cosy with relaxing music playing. Bathroom spotless.
Fantastic setting and magnificent building. Very friendly and helpful staff especially in the restaurant. Excellent breakfast and Sunday lunch.
While the room was comfortable and amenities excellent, the room was extremely warm and I couldn't sleep. Two fans were provided but didn't really help and were very loud. At the price, and in a hotel positioned as 4 star, I would have expected air con as standard even in a heritage property. In addition, the door to the ensuite bathroom was ill fitting or poorly hung and could not be closed (at least 6-12 inches open at all times) meaning no privacy....looked like this was a long standing maintenance issue.
Stay every time we visit family. Love it
The location was good for Brecon. The staff were great. The room was a good size if strangley configured.
Parking is real problem so if using as a base to explore the area, you will rarely get a space in the car park. For the money, a spa, pool or at least something other than the bar and restaurant might be expected.
Nice and modern inside
Squeaky floorboards above.
Room was so hot, fans didn’t work disappointed as it was rated 4 stars not up to standard
L’emplacement et l’aménagement exceptionnel
Great food. Nice location in Brecon with view.
Limited parking. Only one fan in room during heatwave (no air-con). Windows were faulty and would not stay open. Door swollen and very difficult to close. Sloping floor in bathroom may be unsuitable for some.
Second time at this hotel and will definitely be coming back again - great location, friendly staff, great outdoor seating area, lovely food and comfortable clean rooms
The corridors and rooms are all very warm - the room ceiling fan helped, but as it was in the middle of a heatwave it didn't fully cool it down
Very nicely decorated, lovely big bed.
Our room was very hot. The hotel had provided two desk fans but they weren't really sufficient. There was no mirror in bedroom with a plug point for a hair dryer.
The hotel was very well maintained. The rooms and hotel decor was great. Particularly liked the restaurant and the outside beer garden with views of pen y fan
everything
Location , lovely comfortable interiors
Check in delayed, because hotel had been busy previously. Too warm in room and corridor(weather not staff.)not enough staff at the bar, various drinks unavailable. Reception unmanned in the evening and over run bar staff expected to do both jobs. Lack of sun umbrellas on patio areas, obviously broken and just put over fence. Lovely hotel but felt staff unsupported and stressed especially during evening shift
