Parkside House

The property was adequate at best no higher than 2 star despite the 5 star rating by the ownners we moved out as soon as we could find an alternative.

Large apartment, comfortable, nice co-host who was helpful.

The other co-host who was supposed to email us the instructions and code to get in didn't give us the info and so we had to call him on the day of arrival to get his instructions. Then he gave us the wrong code and we had trouble getting in. He also wasn't clear about the driveway to use and we ended up going to the wrong one. It was fortunate that the other co-host who was on site helped us out.

Great walking location to downtown

It was a quick stopover, check In was easy and clear instructions. I find the studio had a smell of either weed or curry spice, it was clean but still found a few spiders which didn’t make my stay comfortable. I feel the bed was so much in the open I can see through the shutters of the front door while I tried to sleep I did at one point feel unsafe as I was worried people would be walking by and I’d see them. I ended up putting a bar stool under the door handle :( Homeowners seem very nice but way to many rules and Instructions to follow Way to many laminated “rules” laying around. It’s located in the basement, very poor natural light, couches outdated. I guess I’m being picky and it was a bed to sleep in but my night was very restless Checked in at 8 pm checked out at 5:30 AM!

Overall we're pleased and may return on another holiday.

If you were not looking for this place, you would completely miss it! Very nondescript from the street, just a nice old house tucked in beside a church. But what a find! Very walkable to everything, clean suite (we were in Suite #2 on the second floor), very comfortable bed. Steve and Mark were excellent hosts. Would definitely stay again!

I tried getting ahold of hotels.com when we checked in. Very very disappointed it was a very hot week, we checked in to find that there is no air conditioning in the apartment and only one fan to accommodate. Even another fan would not have done any justice. We were sticky and not comfortable the entire time. Also stunk of old food. Unfortunately wouldn't go back. Maybe in the winter! Nothing against the owners. Just not the place for us.

We had a very nice stay in room 4. Steve was very welcoming. Everything was perfectly clean. The room itself is a bit dated, but the bed very comfy. The bathroom is fantastic, very spacious and looks like new. The house is very close to many restaurants in downtown area, and to Centennial park by the lake. We enjoyed our coffee in the morning on the patio. Thank you, Steve!

No air conditioning - unbearably hot leading to a poor nights sleep

The hosts were absolutely wonderful and so accomodating and the room was lovely. We had such a comfortable stay. The property is super close to so many establishments, including the cutest little Dutch store. We will definitely be returning next time we're in Barrie and we highly recommend Steve and Mark's property if you're ever in the area!

Location when I selected the unit. However it is a bit sketchy walking alone.

The owners did not respond to my request for extra towels and a fan. They can certainly text to tell you what they want but we were ignored. Two thin towels and two face cloths provided for two nights stay. Small towels! There is ZERO ventilation in this suite. Two tiny windows. NO AIR CONDITIONER and they had an old swamp cooler that sounded like an old plane - it didn’t work in 30 degree weather. Cleanliness- shoes stuck to tile floors when walking around, they are dark floors so probably not cleaned. Your feet picked up dirt without slippers. The website shows an outdoor space in a green area - not true in unit 6 which is mostly underground. The bistro table is located in a weedy parking space with a temporary garage facing you. The couches should be replaced or vacuumed or maybe a slip cover - things stuck to you when sitting on them. No extra blankets provided to sit on. Coffee was provided for a day - stayed two days. Coffee maker took 25 minutes to perk as it needs cleaning. Coffee basket had not been cleaned in sometime. If you are over 5’ 10” then you won’t fit in this shower. The toilet is close to wall so you need to sit at an angle. Cabinets in bathroom are dirty. All ceilings are low as you are basically in a basement. We did not enjoy staying here, it wrecked our trip and if we didn’t pay for two nights we would have left. The owners did not show any care or concern to my two requests - didn’t have to as they had our $.

Convenient

This was a nice big place, clean and good value for the money. Better than a hotel room at any of the cheap hotels in town. Mark and Steve had some excellent freshly ground coffee, sugar and creamers for us to enjoy in the morning. Great location near downtown and the lake, but quieter than where the chain hotels are.

The space was great - large living area and comfortable bedroom. The area was very quiet at night. The response from the owners to replace items.

The property is in need of some TLC - it has clearly been loved, but is missing a good clean, a check between guests and some repairs (which we reported and were dealt with immediately). The property is up for sale and this maybe a factor. UPDATE AFTER RESPONSE FROM PARKSIDE: We did discuss with you while we were there

The "kitchen area" was a section of worktop above a fridge. There was a microwave on a shelf above. The only basin was in the bathroom. Cooking your own food is not possible. Nice to have an electric kettle. Several notes about blocking the toilet and staining towels with accompanying charges were over the top. Soundproofing needs to be worked on . Could clearly hear person snoring in room above. Only one soft chair in main room/ bedroom and strangely another one in the bathroom.

Lots of stairs, not for everyone! Not easy to get hot water from bathroom sink had to run a long time to get warmish water. Better lighting to use code for outside door at night.

Great experience

The property was actually lovely. But we were caught in an ice storm that killed the power so we spent the night in the cold and dark and our food went bad. In the early morning we wanted to leave but an iced-up tree had fallen on my husband's car and another over the driveway. Insurance stated that the proprietor was responsible for clearing the trees. We tried for over three hours to send messages, phone calls and knocked on the owners' door with no luck at all. Meanwhile there was a family emergency up north we had to get to urgently. The manager finally emerged hours later, and yelled at me, saying he didn't think this was an emergency. He was rude, and totally absolved himself from his innkeeper's responsibilities. I was appalled and shocked at the unprofessionalism.

Was very happy with my stay. Room was clean and quiet. Maid service was there when we wanted it, but not when we didn't. Kitchen was everything we needed for the week to eat. All in all, very happy, and quite likely to return.

My only complaint is the coffee maker's on/off button was broken and it just started running when I plugged it in. Also, some of the creamers were spoiled. Besides that we were comfortable and it was very clean.

This was an amazing stay. This was tbe best, highest rated, cheapest property in the area. I booked it last minute due to weather and the owners were professional, considerate, prompt, helpful, and thorough. The place was great! So much larger and nicer than a hotel. Really big, private, comfortable, clean, and well equipped.

The location to downtown and the parking was okay.

When we arrived we noticed that the suite was not very well cleaned. There were long strands of black hair in the bathroom, in the tub, and on the bed with the pillows. There was also a lot of dust/cobwebs found throughout the suite. Along with that, there was nothing to watch on the TV and the air conditioning system did not seem to work. The suite was 28 degrees celsius for the entirety of our stay which was way too hot to deal with, especially with the provided fan on full blast. Other than those few issues we experienced, the price was pretty reasonable for what we received, but we will not be returning here.

great night stay, cozy & comfortable for a quick nights stay for my job. I wish the door had a dead bolt to feel more at ease but everything was great otherwise!

Better than 5 star hotels

Firstly, this is not a hotel it’s an apartment building as registered with the City of Barrie. There is no sign out front or instructions on where to park. I received an email to offer a 5% discount if I booked directly with them. I sent feedback on my experience. At 0413 I received an incoherent message. I commented that this was very unprofessional and received the text below.

Had a wonderful stay at Parkside House. Mark was great with assisting us throughout our stay. Would highly recommend this place.

Close to all the amenities and services. I had my own luxury suite with 24/7 services.

Everything was perfect. I wasn't a fan of the television, it was hard to use and it took long to respond. Its a minor issue and did not take away from the overall experience.

Beautiful property very clean and private

Large, comfortable apartment with fully functional kitchen. Large windows which provided lots of beautiful, natural light. Nicely decorated with solid, comfy couches and bed. Very quiet building and street. We slept really well. Free , secure parking and an easy walk to a good shopping area with a great variety of good restaurants. We enjoyed our stay, would stay there again and highly recommend Park House.

Everything was great.

Very clean and well-appointed property. Instructions were clear and parking provided. Walking distance to restaurants meant we could park up after a long drive and walk to dinner. Nice dining area in kitchen would have provided a comfortable space for enjoying a takeout, too. Friendly hosts. Highly recommend.

Basement apt of a house. Still enough light coming through main door. Digital keypad entry was easy. Parking available. Low ceilings.

Would have appreciated bigger and better towels in the bathroom Shower water did not drain so standing in dirty water. Water temperature never warmed up. Showering and shaving was no fun

The property as a whole for the most part was clean and it was nice and quiet and there was a lovely restaurant within walking distance it was called Baccio Trattoria deffs recommmend! The bed was very soft and comfortable and we had a great sleep. The only thing there were a couple flies in the bathroom and there was a bug in the bathroom when we first arrived, I think that was because there’s a lot of grass and bushes around the area, not because it wasn’t clean. The other thing I would recommend is just making sure all the garbages are emptied because one of the garbages was not emptied when we first arrived. Overall it was a nice place to stay for our short trip it was conveniently located.

My husband and I stayed for only one night at Parkside house. The room was very lovely, clean and comfortable. The property was very quiet and easy to access. We were welcomed by Mark who set us up with everything that we needed for our stay. I would recommend this property.

I like the size of the suite; it’s big. Also, the hosts were quick to reply and provide what I requested. However, the AC needs an upgrade and maybe add more toiletries. Overall, a nice place to stay.
