The overdone chips🫣
It was a lovely hotel, rooms very spacious, staff were helpful and friendly. Food was brilliant great choice and prices were reasonable.
Our room 3 was quite dusty, some areas in the bar restaurant were extremely dusty with cobwebs
Comfortable bed and good shower
The piped music from the bar resonated in the room. 80s music at night and Hearts FM in the morning. It spoilt our stay
Exceptionally clean and good location
Nothing
Excellent meals
Rien
Great location! Excellent food! Breakfast was fantastic! Very helpful and kind staff that answered all questions.
The carpet is tired, dingy in hallways and room. Our room could have used a deep clean; it lacked freshness.
Friendly staff. Beautiful surroundings. Great food and drink and great value for money .

Easy and friendly welcome

A great pub stay. The pub itself was very cozy and the dinner was very reasonably priced and delicious. The room was clean and the facilities were good. The bathroom in particular was very large. Others mentioned the highway noise, but we had no trouble with this.
The breakfast was good, but some additional non-dairy options would’ve been very appreciated. There was a tiny spider in the bathroom as well, but nothing to complain about!
Breakfast was amazing
No WiFi and in the middle of nowhere
The staff were friendly and helpful, plus they all enjoyed working there.
The bedroom was too hot, although the window was open during the night and the radiators were switched off
Lovely quiet location
Some items a bit tired and needing replacement…attachment on hairdryer didn’t fit, rust on shower tray. Nothing major was very clean just a bit tired
Food good, plentiful and tasty
I prefer bacon better fried
The rooms were clean and comfortable. The staff was very helpful, especially Hannah. Service at dinner was slow, but we were not in a hurry.
Music in the dining room was loud at dinner and could be heard in the rooms.
Room was great! Very clean and comfortable. Staff were excellent, couldn't be nicer and so helpful. Meals were amazing, excellent price and great portions!
The green emergency fire light in the bedroom. Never known one to be in an inn room or hotel room. Very bright and kept me awake, need darkness to sleep. Cardboard solved it the next day though.
On check in we were shiwn to our rooms and everything including the fire alarm test and on duty night manager even though it was a busy Sunday lunch service Fabulous friendly staff Excellent food great choices at fabulous prices Fabulous views
We stayed in a room overlooking the road a little traffic noise (but nothing the hotel can do about it)
Lovely room. Clean and smart. Views. Hot water and powerful shower. Charming helpful staff. Excellent breakfast.
Friendly staff, clean room, great food
Nothing
Food was great. We had dinner and then full breakfast in the morning. Bed was very comfortable.
The hotel is situated on a main road. If you like to sleep with the window open, the intermittent road noise in the night may annoy you.
Erg vriendelijk personeel
Struttura molto carina e accogliente
Food room and staff all excellent
Coming home
Very clean and comfortable, restaurant was excellent with a large variety of choice

Food was excellent. Staff so welcoming and friendly clean and fresh room .

Beautiful location with lovely views and easy to get to Durham
Although apparently clean quite a bit of dust on surfaces, cobwebs on the walls and hair behind bathroom door
Superb location. Very comfortable rooms. Excellent food and the service was exceptional throughout. Very friendly staff. Nothing too much trouble. Great outdoor area too overlooking fields. Can’t recommend it too highly. Good value too.
Nothing we didn’t like.
Exemplary staff provided a warm welcome, breakfast and dinner were excellent. The room was well appointed and very comfortable. Located in a rural setting with a lovely rear patio overlooking fields.
Nothing
Wonderful staff, all very helpful. A good breakfast, also an excellent Gluten free menu. Value for money. A lovely outside area to eat with a lovely view
Nothing really to dislike. The only problem was we had to use taxis all the time as there was no bus stop near by
Good food and good beer.
It’s on a very busy road and with the windows open on a warm night the traffic noise is very obvious. Wi-Fi was poor overall and non existent in our room.
Friendly staff
Bit on main road
Clean rooms friendly bar staff great food.
Nothing
Close proximity to main road into Durham. Road was noisy but quietened down. Food was reasonable
Decor was tired. No fan in room and hard to keep window open due to road noise
Reasonably close to Durham and cheaper than inflated prices in city centre during graduation season.
Tired, cheap decor, paper thin walls and doors (which slammed) and piped music from the pub/breakfast room which could be heard in my room and woke me up. The window opened two centimetres so dread to think what it’s like when it’s hot.
The staff were excellent, in a beautiful setting of countryside.
The room was large , plenty of parking, good meals and good value overall.
The inn is location in a stand alone location. We were in transit so not an issue for us and the meals at the hotel very good.
So friendly and cosy. Outdoor area has beautiful views
It was all perfect! Definitely will be back
The staff were FANTASTIC, very friendly and helpful. Had the bar menu for evening meal - very nice Nachos, breakfast was delicious. Views were beautiful and overall nice feel to the place. Shower was great and nice tea and coffee tray in the room.
Needed somewhere to hang towels in bathroom.
Comfortable, staff very helpful & friendly, food good
Nothing
A warm welcome on arrival, clean rooms, generous food portions, a great location and a terrace garden overlooking the fields.
Nothing m!
Extremely well located - 10min drive to uni open day. Comfortable, clean and modern rooms with rain shower bathroom. Excellent service, we arrived late due to traffic but despite kitchen having closed they made us a delicious ham sandwich. Great value. Also loved the field of cows!
Nothing to criticise - only idea is with the current heat wave a fan in the bedroom would have been perfect.
We arrived a little later than planed but despite that we were delighted to be received with a very warm welcome. Breakfast was excellent as was the room but it was the staff that really made the difference.
Nothing to fault.
The breakfast was lovely. Staff were very friendly and obliging.
Convenience and staff was great!
Staff extremely pleasant and helpful, location very good 10 minutes drive to park and ride to Durham. Food was good and very plentiful and very good value. Nice outside space overlooking farmland for a pre dinner drink, what more could you need.
Can not think of anything.
The food was very good with plenty of choices and big portions
Wi-fi wasn't that strong.
It was an excellent hotel the staff were very helpful and attentive. The food was really good. The rooms were very clean and comfortable.
The road outside was busy but the room was very sound proof so was no problem.
Lovely Breakfast
Good value
Breakfast buffet limited
Homely. Excellent food. Very large portions, breakfast was amazing.Wonderful staff…especially Hannah. A really lovely place to stay. Highly recommended.
Nothing.
Being able to eat there in the evening was a real bonus - a good menu and the breakfast was great too .
This sounds very picky but I use a CPAP machine and usually clip the oxygen pipe behind the head board so a fixed headboard stumped me - but a minor point.
We had a very enjoyable stay overall. The staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming throughout our visit. The food in the restaurant was excellent, and breakfast was a highlight – generous portions, very tasty, and served quickly. The hotel had a lovely atmosphere, and the tea and coffee facilities in the room were well stocked. The room itself was comfortable, with a large, comfortable bed and a spacious bathroom. The shower was excellent, with good water pressure.
There wasn't anything significantly negative about our stay, but there are a couple of areas that could be improved. We noticed a few hairs in the bathroom when we arrived, so perhaps a little more attention to detail during cleaning would help. Our room faced the road, which was busier than we expected and could be quite noisy if the window was open. We could also hear some noise from the corridor and neighbouring rooms, although this is perhaps understandable given the age and character of the building.
The views of surrounding country side, the food was very good.
Steep stairs for an 83 yr old and the hand bannister rail was poor on one of the staircases.
After a lot of walking in nearby Durham it was lovely to sit and relax in the beautiful garden with bucolic, tranquil views. The staff could not have been more helpful and food was great which is good as you are a little way away from anywhere else so it's ideal to eat there.
No downside.

Friendly staff. Well equipped room. Very clean. Restaurant on site.
Nothing
Food was exceedingly generous and delicious
Piped music was discernable in the bedroom and was a little intrusive due to speakers being located in the bar ceiling. However, when we mentioned this to the staff it was turned down and was much better.
Everything.
Booked last minute and arrived late, but staff made us feel welcome immediately and showed us to a lovely room with fantastic views. The Inn has the most amazing 360 degree views of the countryside and of Durham and you can see the city from the gardens. They do a really good breakfast too. We left knowing we will very likely return here again when stopping over.
Nothing
Staff friendly, room clean and breakfast amazing
WiFi in room didn’t work
We arrived later than planned but were made instantly welcome. Breakfast was excellent, freshly prepared and tasty. The bar has a wide range of drinks to suit everyone Parking feels secure. We will stay again
It was all great
Return visit with my mum as well.both rooms lovely immaculate and my mum hates showers so one with a bath was perfect.staff never anything other than enthusiastic and helpful whatever time of day /night.never heard a grump from anyone .brook was on staff so nice to see her again.food fab both meals .
No shower gel in our dispenser. Minor detail .... but as return visit we packed light knowing only 1 night.still wish handle on wall in shower as it is slippery.chef was superb and had proper stifado on menu.2 of us had chicken bacon dumpling ... only fault dumpling main player and hard and could be used as shott putt.veg chicken chips were 100 %.desserts were good portion and worth the greediness divine all 3 (different)
All the staff are so friendly, food amazing , rooms clean and very comfy, location is so relaxing away from the hustle and bustle of busy centres

The staff are fantastic and the food was great. The pub its self is a lovely place to say.
We felt very comfortable the staff are very friendly and helpful nothing seems to phase them we would stay again. The Inn is in a great location with great views and the food is good with a good variety of dishes on offer.
Huge choice of restaurant food, good value for money. Lovely staff
Breakfast choice limited, next to very busy road
All of The Food is fantastic perfectly cooked and large portions . Staff were great and very attentative. Great range of drinks I would definitely recommend this place
A little more care could be taken by the cleaners. Although the room was clean and tidy with very comfortable bed the general hoovering in covers could be slightly better
Lovely food - lovely staff - lovely drinks - lovely rooms -
Nothing
The staff were very welcoming and hospitable. The breakfast was good. The rooms were clean and comfortable. It was quiet at night, so I could sleep well.
The WiFi wasn't great.
Staff were very friendly and the evening meal was good. Large portions.
Very tired room in terms of decor. Curtain was broken and missing hooks. Carpet a little shabby and it was noisy being at the front with the main road.
Food excellent, short drive to Howlands Park & Ride which is the easiest way to list cathedral and castle
Main course portions are enormous. We eventually ate off the children's menu or we could have shared a main course
Staff brilliant but special shout out to brooke nothing to much trouble patiene of a saint.food outstanding bed comfortable shower fab .clean and will be back .tried to book for tonight full so brooke recomended sister pub .there in bed as i write this .
Room very hot ,in this lovely weather windows hardly open .and grab rail in long great but slippery shower. Minor details but maybe useful

Cleanliness
8.7/10Most guests note clean and comfortable rooms, though a few mentioned dust/cobwebs and hair behind a bathroom door, so cleanliness is generally good but not flawless.
Service
9.3/10Consistently praised staff: welcoming, friendly and attentive service throughout stays; staff interaction is a major strength.
Location
9.2/10Well located for Durham with lovely countryside views and easy access, but several guests mentioned road noise and the remote nature (no nearby bus stop) as minor drawbacks.
Room Quality
8.8/10Rooms described as comfortable and well appointed, though some guests reported tired decor, thin walls, limited ventilation (no fan) and occasional noise intrusion.
Amenities
9/10Good on-site amenities including a strong restaurant/breakfast offering, outdoor seating area and free parking; limited public transport access and no lift for some guests.
Value for Money
9.2/10Multiple guests called it good value—cheaper than city-center alternatives and offering substantial meals—so value is perceived positively.
Food and Beverage
9.5/10Food and drink receive frequent high praise: excellent dinners, breakfasts and gluten-free options; restaurant consistently highlighted as a key positive.
Overall Experience
9.1/10Overall very positive stays driven by staff, food and setting; minor issues (road noise, occasional cleanliness/room decor, spotty Wi‑Fi) temper an otherwise strong experience.
