Clean
Room very small and overlooked rooftops
Old rustic hotel fab food and staff
DOGS in eating areas
Lovely old fashioned hotel full of history. Rooms large and comfortable. Good value breakfast.
Bar meals were limited and restaurant expensive. Swimming pool closed.
Lovely room with a clean comfy bed. Helpful staff. Always stay here its the best.
bargain price
Everything
Nothing
We have been holidaying here for years and it is a lovely place to stay
I have nothing to dislike about this property
Breakfast
Entertainment finished at 10.00pm
Staff were superb
The down stairs decor
The rooms were dated
Breakfast was excellent great value couldn't fault it
Having to pay for parking 14 pounds a night
The bed was uncomfortable
Hotel outside looks lovely, breakfast room is beautiful and breakfast was really good, huge choice.
Our room was in desperate need of updating. Needs a new headboard, walls painting and windows attending to. Car parking charges were really high especially when your paying to stay in the hotel for a weekend. Was reall6 dissapointed, we have stayed here twice before and had nice rooms. I did ask was there any other rooms but was told they were full. Such a shame , we would not return to this hotel.
Lovely hotel. Friendly. Amazing breakfast
Expensive parking
Breakfast was good
£14 a night to park the car the room we were given had urine stains all over top cover and smelt . Were given another room which was fine apart from we couldn’t get in and out with key card had to go down to reception at 11.30 at night to get us in then had trouble every time we went out to get back in
Breakfast adequate, but not giving a wow factor. Basic items, but still full english
On arrival, dog faeces by the reception. Pointed this out to the receptionist and he removed. Entered lift to second floor. Dog faeces trod into floor. Again highlighted this to reception and cleaning crew sorted, with 2 Little ones with ourselves expected better hygiene from hotel.
The room upgrade was very good. and well worth it.
Nothing springs to mind
Location ideal.
Paying extra for parking Breakfast - have to get your own tea/coffee in mugs. Prefer teapot and cup/saucer. No bars if soap. Windows very dirty.
Room was clean and bed was comfortable, staff were fantastic, we had an issue out first night by no fault of the hotel or us , I told reception in the morning and had the issue sorted out quickly
It was warm in the hotel, the radiators were on all through the corridors but I can't really say thats a bad thing as the time of year normally need them on
Food was absolutely great. Breakfast buffet had everything expected.
Information in room for room service and meal times non existent. No shampoo, soap only in room. Check-in takes too long. Calling reception for room service or information takes far too long, if they answered at all.
Location perfect, breakfast exerclent a wide variety of choices which was brilliant for my mum who can be picky about eating so times
Everything was beyond great
Lovely position & comfortable lounge area. Excellent and friendly night staff, especially Ben.
Booked a superior king size room with a sea view. The room was far from superior. Very small window, broken & ripped lamp shade, only two plugs in the whole room, a damaged fridge, no hand towels in the bathroom, leaking radiator in the bathroom, broken hand soap dispenser & dirty bath (a few dark hairs !) & dirty tiles !!
Room was lovely.
but the room was also dirty. Bathrooms folded on the bed where dirty with dirty tissues in them. Looked like the room hadn't been dusted or cleaned. No milk for a brew.
Room was very spacious with a sea view (as booked). Coffee machine in room a bonus. Check in was easy and staff helpful. Liked the old grandeur of the place e.g. the Churchill Room, the lighting in the dining area and along the walk from dining area to reception. Parking space available (though did have to pay for this). Lots of choice at breakfast (can't comment on other meals as we only had breakfast)
Bed and pillows uncomfy (too hard) though I may have picked the wrong bed to sleep in. Key swipe on door didnt work properly so had to call down to reception twice to reboot. Some parts of the hotel a bit jaded e.g. the windows though understand these places take a lot of maintenance and perhaps this is an ongoing project to get it back to tip top condition
Everything all wonderful.
No swimming pool
Breakfast was good.
It is a very large busy hotel.
Location. Staff. Architecture. Old fashioned values.
Parking charges.
View and size of room x
Beds weren’t made?! Only towels replaced
Room was spacious, Breakfast was excellent as usual.
I had to ask for clean towels as the ones we had were there for 2 days
Staff service was impeccable as always
Lack of fridge in the room which we've had on all previous stays, also wasn't keen on these new impersonal texts asking to fill out forms
nothing was good i complained about the room been mucky
nothing was horrible the beds was hard and not a good clean hotel
Special welcome packs for our dogs were a really nice touch. The staff were lovely.
The breakfast was good but I had to pay extra for it.
The check in procedure was far too slow and laborious. My room was disappointing considering the price I had to pay for it.
Perfect location outside of the main town centre. Just a small tram ride to all the attractions. Hotel is very nice and the room was spacious enough for two of us. Shower was brilliant although it was pretty small. Staff were very polite and helpful. Sometimes took a while to get served at reception and the bar but wasn't a problem.
The location is excellent, room with a sea view. Staff on reception and breakfast were excellent.
The only heating working was the towel rail. The chairs were stained, not the best. Staff in the bar did not have a clue and when I queried my food order the person in charge came over and said "what's up" not good customer service.
Value for money and good traditional hotel
Check in was slow and could have had extra staff on at the obvious peak check in time
Location
Had very little sleep very noisy even though we booked ahead and asked for a quite room. Room very warn and not clean in some areas. Mattress needs renewing along with bath and shower, carpet and furniture and window. Night staff man and day staff man rude. Customer service training needed front desk.
Location was good. The tram stopped right outside. Articultural features stunning and beautifully kept in a true character of the hotel. Breakfast superb with a good choice. Friendly and helpful staff.
Showers needed updating.
Perfect location, clean room, comfy bed, wonderful food and friendly accommodating staff!
Some bathroom features were dated but forgiven due to its heritage
Me and my husband spent 3 nights , room was clean and smelt fresh when we entered the room, bed was comfy. The staff at the imperial were very welcoming and most of them were easy to talk too , you could have a joke with them . The architecture is lovely , we didn't eat here this time , the last time we were here 2025 we had breakfast and evening meal food was lovely but decided this time to eat out . For the price we paid thought it was brilliant.
The windows in the room could really do with a good clean considering the room was clean , it could do with a lick of paint looking very tired , but all in all we enjoyed our stay .
The bed was comfortable and staff were pleasant
It was very “tired” in appearance. Only one lift working . Windows on 4th floor very dirty. Floor boards very noisy to walk on. Needs lots of TLC
I liked the room, bed was comfortable, and just the right temperature in room.
I liked all of hotel and staff,
The food and the hotel
Breakfast was ok,bed was comfortable room was roomy
Didn't sleep the first night as the windows are shocking (draughty, all night you could hear the wind coming through the seals)
Bed comfortable, pillows good . Bed linen good.
Room dated , wardrobe also . Lack of drawers.
Lovely old hotel with many original features
Queues all the time at reception as only one member of staff on. Queues at breakfast as only one member of staff checking people in and then taking them to their table. 6 of us ate in the restaurant, bill over £200 but food very mediocre.
Easy check in, plenty of room in reception to sit and chill, good bar area, entertainment in the evening, nice bar food, reasonable prices, 10 minute walk to the centre, good size room, comfy bed.
Not much
Breakfast
Over 1hour to book in .only one person on desk and people queuing. Key fobs not working properly and had to go back to reception 2 times to sort it out.
Having to pay for car parking, if I book a room at the hotel I expect to be able to park without charge
Beautiful building & the interior is stunning with the original architecture.
We stayed in a double standard room with our Shih Tzu’s, we understand that other dogs have been in the room but the curtain was hanging off, there was a large crack in the sink. And my boys came home with fleas!
Friendly staff.
Rooms are indeed of a major renovation. Old tired carpets, old decor, and the bed wasn’t comfortable. Certainly didn’t look like the pictures, to what the rooms looked in reality.
The staff at the reception and the cleaning lady were friendly and helpful. I like the size of my room and its design. The bed was big and comfortable. I even had a small fridge in my room. The breakfast was nice enough and offered plenty of choice.
Due to gaps in a sea facing window, we had two sleepless nights there. Strong wind made the room very noisy at night. It was soon repaired after two nights after I reported the issue to a receptionist. However, having dinner in this hotel is a nightmare. On the first night upon arrival in the dining room , we had to wait for 5 minutes to be seated after the manager finished his telephone call. Then we were given the previous day’s menue. We ordered gammon but were presented with chicken breasts. In the second night, the main course we ordered, rump of lamb, was not edible. Pearl barley was not cooked properly and impossible to chew, and the rump of lamb was overcooked. The lamb was so tough that even steak knives could not cut it with ease. The two lamb dishes cost £42. What a waste of money! As a result we dined out in the third night despite heavy rain.
The family room was a decent size with comfortable beds. The breakfast was good quality and the staff in the breakfast room were very friendly. The hotel was well situated for our chosen activities: visiting the Tower and Riding The Lights.
In the message sent via booking.com to pre-register the link was deleted. I rang reservations and gave them my email address to forward the link but didn't receive any email, so had to complete the form at the reception desk - clunky as the reception staff could have been a little more forthcoming. The room decor was dated and the window rattled in the wind until we wedged it.
Lovely old building
Check in seemed chaotic. Breakfast not as good as a year ago
Everything was amazing, the staff went above and beyond for us. We would like to thank especially Nikki, George, Claire, Maddison &Mia for making everything wonderful, not forgetting the Chef, he fed us for 3 days and nights and the food was out of this world. We know how hard you all worked at a especially busy time of year and with so many functions taking place as well as your hotel guests, we really appreciate you all, thank you xx

Queing for check in Queing for 15 minutes for breakfast Bedroom doors banging in the middle of the night This hotel is very dated and desperately needs a refurbishment Not enough staff in the bar so again queing to get served I would rate this hotel 3 star and that is being generous I will never ever stay in this hotel again And speaking to some other guests they have said the same
Great location, plenty of parking, clean, good breakfast, excellent staff and very comfortable stay. We had a deluxe double room with a sea view and it was great.
Rooms a little dated, but doesn’t spoil your stay.
we booked 15 rooms in total as i recommended them and we were left standing at reception for just over 1 hour one person working .we asked can she not get some help then George turned up and could not log on so he disappeared for a while then gave guests behind me free parking we did not get offered any refreshment . we will never stay at that hotel again
The breakfast was was tasty and selection was varied. A good selection. The staff were friendly.
The room had toenail clippings on the floor, the bed protector sheet had a rip in it, the chairs had arms that were loose. The door handle on entry to the room was loose. The tap in the bathroom was not complete, the shower alternated from boiling hot to ice cold even after following the instructions on the wall. The duvet was to small for the cover and was insufficient for the size of the bed, although the bed itself was comfortable. There were no spoons in the room, the tea and coffee selection was not refreshed daily. The only place to use the kettle safely was next to the bed. The lamp next to bed was loose.
the location
how on the website it’ says swimming pool , but it’s been closed since covid we paid that price for the pool
The locality
The staff, don’t answer the phone, I was trying for 2 days before anyone came back to me. We had to drive to the hotel to sort out what could have been done over the phone, if they enough staff to answer.
The food was lovely az were the staff , beautiful building
Everything was ok
The Booking.com listing stated that the hotel offered free parking. However, on arrival, I discovered this was not the case and was required to pay an additional £28 for parking over the two-night stay. We also experienced issues with the hot water due to a boiler fault, which we were not made aware of until we specifically asked a member of staff. As a result, we had to use a shower in a different room on another floor. This was particularly inconvenient and disruptive as I was travelling with three children. Overall, these issues detracted from our stay and were disappointing, particularly given the information provided at the time of booking and the lack of proactive communication regarding the hot water problem.
Breakfast was beautiful and a bargain
Character
Run down appearance in communal areas
Large room with sea view was lovely. Breakfast was very good.
Detailing in rooms could be cleaner. Windows draughty in gale force winds.
breakfast was excellent ,plenty of choice, well laid out.staff very polite and attentive at all times. very comfy bed,but room was dated and small.
check in was horrendous, had already booked in on line, but no note of this,so one person dealing with three check ins at once, does not work.bar staff had no idea what they were doing.food was not up to standard in bar.asked several times about entertainment,no one knew who was on ,what room it would be in,or what time it started.dogs being allowed into where food is being served.parking expensive at £14 per night.
Location Great staff Lovely hotel
Nothing!
Closeness to the venue we where visiting and carpeting.
Check in was a bit disorganised.
Restaurant and bar staff friendly, helpful and funny!
Check in took ages, the food was poor, it wasn't clean and the bed uncomfortable
It was near where we wanted to be
1 hour to check in
Just an excellent stay
Quicker check in.
Great location. Friendly staff.
We had booked for 4 nights. Left after 2 nights. First room on the day we arrived had generators or fans outside so unable to rest with noise. We then repacked and moved to a lovely room. Following morning room next door people shouting at 5.30 in the morning. TV then on loud. We came for a rest but unfortunately no rest so we checked out that second day.
Size of room. Staff. I had a problem with a parking ticket phoned the hotel it was sorted in minutes. Nothing to much.
First time we Stop was in July and it was great the second time we stopped in August was not very good
We stopped for two days and three different rooms very dirty the shower won’t switch off and we have to be moved yet again and the staff couldn’t do it
Staff were great. Very polite and helpful. Hotel had a charm about it
Some facilities such as shower could be updated
Fantastic staff great very professional and great service food was amazing nothing was to much bother overall excellent
Good breakfast. Evening dinner 1 good main and 1 poor. Starters and desserts good.
Standard room in need of upgrade. Window sills mouldy and grubby. Had sound of water running all night.
The breakfast was lovely - my daughter loved making her own pancakes. The room was really comfortable and well equipped.

Okay
The long queues to check in at reception. Room not available. 3pm was the expected time. Got into room at 3.50. This impacts on changing clothes and meeting friend for restaurant booking xx
Everything was fantastic! Beautiful home! And the owners were very helpful and welcoming

Excellent location for walking into the centre.
If I had to say something, the pillows could have been better
Great location and room good size as there was 3 of us plus plenty of room for luggage
Not enough plug sockets in room. Seems that some had been covered over. Only 3 sockets in room - room has Tv, fridge and kettle so had to keep jiggle things about to charge up phones/iPads etc
Breakfast was very good and the receptionist did a good job of explaining things
Nothing springs to mind
Liked the room change to a Seaview although we didn't have a bath in that room. When we had a working shower it was brilliant and so was breakfast. Dining room staff and cleaning staff were helpful and pleasant.
Requested a cot on booking, waited for 90 mins after check in for it to turn up when it should have been in the roo.. 1 of 2 key cards didn't work so was back at reception for that too. Finally had a room change on 2nd day as room on 4th floor had no hot water. Doesn't help when travelling with a 1 year old for just 2 days, we weren't the only ones. Spent more time at reception and carrying luggage and travel cots etc between floors than actually enjoying my stay with my family. Was a bit annoyed. Did hear reception staff offering out drinks vouchers to other travellers in check in so must have been a variety of problems this weekend. Maybe I should have complained more or just left with a refund. Parking at 14 quid a night is steep, if you travel in quiet times there is free on road parking next to the hotel. If my lad was capable of walking I would have parked there.
Lovely hotel indicative of its age Great breakfast. Staff nice.
Beds hard. Fruit flies in the bar +++ Bar food was nice but expensive for what it was.
Everything
Room was ok and the breakfast was good
Sighnig in on tablet too complecated for my age group
Facilities
No decaff coffee to many flies in bar number 10 to enjoy my drink it was infested and no hairdryer in room
Amazing value for money large room great staff
Nothing
The bed and the view,, also the breakfast
Very dated, tape over the carpet, not well maintained,, staff were miserable and rude, and flies in the bar area
Breakfast
Poor room standard
Love the victorian architecture, great location, lovely staff and good value
Nothing i can think of
Staff was friendly helpful
Needs updating rooms pillows were awful and corridors grubby
Everything
Decently clean. Great breakfast.
The flies! Replenish the room (coffee, milk, toilet roll, towels) took place too late in the day, 6pm! I understand this may have been due to being short staffed 😕
Very friendly helpful staff, from reception to waitresses and cleaners, comfortable beds and a great choice of breakfast
