Great location, lovely breakfast, friendly staff.
All good. No issues.
Historical, large rooms, good facilities, friendly staff, good breakfast, parking space, quiet and good location.
Hard pillows!
Love this hotel, staff are so friendly, it's just outside the station and very easy to get to the Cricket Ground which was what we were in somerset for, My company Trade Nation sponsor the Team on T 20 and the Ground.
The Soap dispenser didn't work in the bathroom at the sink, I had to step into the shower each time to pump that one, should be checked each new guest arrival.
Good location and clean.
Friendly staff. 24 hour reception. Very nice shower.
Room decor& furniture dark. Black cushions unnecessary. Nowhere to hang clothes except 2 hooks above kettle. No hooks in bathroom for towel or dressing gown.
Excellent room. Very clean. Lots of lovely cushions on the bed. I liked it that it had a bin to put different types of rubbish into. Staff were polite especially those who served breakfast. Breakfast was fantastic. I was so full afterwards
The wifi code was difficult to find. It was on the info page in the room but it was very small and near the end of the information. Also they could make it clear that the first letter needed to be a capital letter.
Everything,
Friendly staff very helpful very clean
The location and nice building
Our room had a terrible smell and the carpet was very stained. Our room felt dirty, old and unkept (even though it looked lovely in pictures). Our bed was small and, even though it’s great to be by the station, the curtains in the room let the light in and, let me tell you, the station leaves the lights on all night, so there is a lot of light when you try to sleep! The room doesn’t have a mini fridge and the bathroom sink is so small it’s hard to wash your face!
Perfect location and very clean and comfortable - will be using regularly

Average quality, seemed somewhat disorganised, very slow service, especially at the weekend. Had a strange conversation on my last day. Came down for breakfast and one of the staff said are you leaving today. I said yes and was asked it I wanted to hand my key over. The member of staff then realised, as I was only having breakfast and had not moved my belongings yet, that it was a daft question. Oh well
General cleaning, Looks rather grubby. Also, I have never been in a hotel before where the main door is locked at 8pm (?)
Location and parking
It was tired looking and the bedroom needed updating. No wardrobe, just hooks on the wall ; no chair at all and the sash cord on the window was broken. We had to borrow a block of wood to prop it open. The dining room furniture should definitely be replaced.
Location, building character
No evening restaurant

Liked it all - the staff were amazingly friendly and helpful - exceeded expectations.
Nothing
Beautiful building, full of history. Felt a little like id travelled back in time.
Rooms clean and bed comfortable. Breakfast was amazing
Great location close to Somerset Cricket Club and train station. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Good breakfast. Parking onsite
Nothing
Great location and price included parking
It was close to the station. Good size room.
Window wouldn't stay open. It was very warm in the room so had to have the fan on. No milk in the room for my tea in the morning.
All fine
There were obvious cricket ..supporters cutting through the lawn on there way to the station drink involved and quite upsetting when sat outside having a quiet drink
Goede locatie. Grote kamer
‘S avonds is alles vroeg gesloten. Er is geen bar of iets.
Very friendly and helpful staff upon arrival. Rooms were easy to find and very clean!
Breakfast started later than the time I had to leave. Would be good to have breakfast available from 7:30am
Great location with parking, close to the town centre. The staff did their best to make us comfortable in the intense heat.
No air conditioning. I understand it’s a listed building, and therefore air conditioning cannot be installed, but there was only a small fan in our room and no fans or portable units in any of the public areas, which were hot and airless. There were not enough staff at breakfast, nor was there any visible presence from the management. This led to long waits for food.
Great location. Next to the train station and easy walk into town. The big breakfast was big. Next day just had a sausage sandwich. Fan provided for this hot weather.
Parking was a bit chaotic if a conference is on. Car registration does not ask for a mobile number in case you get hemmed in. Couldn't work out how to switch off the mirror light in the bathroom.
Position of hotel
having to ring the bell to gain access ,to the hotel after 8pm. Bar closing to residents at 8pm...
No aircon
Convenient, clean, comfortable
No air con - but I understand it’s because it’s a listed building & fans were provided, not there fault we stayed during a heatwave 😂
Clean and car parking was available and complimentary
Small fan - for what was a really hot evening and night
Perfect great breakfast too staff very friendly and helpful Will stay again
This time good
Hotel in poor condition needs upgrading Had a very upsetting check out accused of none payment for third night when we had clearly paid had just com out of hospital after major surgery and it was handled very badly
Room looked beautiful, but there was no hanging space for clothes
Somewhere to hang clothes
Location and breakfast options
Wall in bathroom needs refresh. Si he pane windows need secondary glazing to quieten noise
Very small bedroom. Bathroom fan permanently on.
Great old lady of an hotel. Good location friendly staff. Would certainly return.
Some aspects of decor a little tired, but not enough to put you off.
Rooms are stunning
There was no continental breakfast, there usually is so we missed our pastries etc
We had lovely two night stay here and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We were allowed to park up several hours before check in. We were greeted very warmly, the staff were all young and very friendly and we had a light lunch and a drink in the cafe before setting off for a wander. Prices were what you'd expect at a hotel. Food stops at 3pm but the bar is open until very late. The town was an easy 10/15 minute walk away. On returning around 3pm we checked into our room (Cranmoor I think) which overlooked the garden and was lovely and peaceful. Shower was big and lovely. Breakfast was cooked to order and delicious. Second morning I opted for the Greek yogurt bowl which was lovely but I couldn't finish it as it was huge! On the second day we sat in the garden with a drink enjoying the peace and sunshine and watching trains coming and going across the way at Taunton station. The hotel is just the sort of place we like. Its got history, has been renovated sympathetically in association with the YMCA and we really liked it. Its got creaky floors, beautiful old sash windows and was really charming and full of character. In a modern, high tech, corporate world it was a refreshing change we would stay again if in the area.
The door at the top of the stairs would slam noisily unless very careful ( and there was a sign asking to close it softly) so it could do with a bit of soundproofing and if in one of the two rooms nearby it could be a bit annoying. In our room the tv was to the side of the bed so a little awkward to see clearly for both of us but it wasn't a big deal.
Outstanding location. Large and comfortable room. Good breakfast
Slow service at breakfast. Lack of plugs in room. Disappointing no chargers held on site. TV not smart which should be standard these days
I liked the location, the tradional look of building as well and the latest, breakfast was delicious and the menue choice was perfect.
Nothing
Great location for the train station, really helpful staff, the ethics of this hotel are fantastic. Will use again.
Nothing
The staff were superb, so friendly and welcoming. The choice of breakfast was excellent and good quality too. The bed was comfortable and the shower great.
Very warm room which did have limited storage and hanging space for clothes.
Staff were as usual friendly and very helpful.
Location brilliant for the Train station and Town
Breakfast seemed to have been cooked with cheap Oil /beans cold/ toast not toasted Bed too firm/coffee very odd only one very small milk/ lunch menu poor
all fine will book again
all fine will book again
Really enjoyed our time again however I did much prefer the buffet arrangement for breakfast rather than table service which they have recently taken up. Breakfast was always delicious 🙂
My first night was disturbed by a bathroom extractor fan that could not be turned off but happily, you arranged for us to be moved to another quieter room the next morning. In this room, I was not disturbed by any noise from the extractor fan as it could not be turned on. However, I slept well and had peaceful nights - thank you 🙏
Location was great in particular being close to the train station and to the centre of town. The staff were friendly and very accomodating and the cafe did a great breakfast.
The bathroom mirror light would not turn off and was on for my entire stay. I did report it on the first day and was advised that there had been problems with other rooms but no action was undertaken during my stay.
Spacious room and decent sized shower. Handy location. Comfortable bed Quiet The staff were friendly. Gluten free breakfast options and all nicely cooked.
The colour of the wall in the room wasn’t to my taste but not offensive. The first table we sat at breakfast had very uncomfortable chairs and didn’t allow much room between leg and table however I appreciate they are likely very old and in keeping with the theme.
Location
My room Montecute was cold but I had no way to increase the room temperature.
Very convenient and surprisingly quiet being near main roads and the station. Good sized bedroom and bathroom. First time we've had a cafetiere for making coffee. Parking onsite was free.
Pillows were poor quality and uncomfortable the toilet seat was very loose and difficult to sit on!! The bright red tv standby light kept us both awake all night so had a poor sleep mainly because the tv was mounted on the wall so the light was immediately in front of the bed!! We waited half an hour for our bacon sandwiches at breakfast,a table that came in after us received their breakfasts before us!!
Being directly across from the train station suited us perfectly. Breakfast was a wide range of choices, served in a lovely room; a shame the weather didn't allow us to use the garden. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with a great shower. Staff were friendly and always helpful. Easy walk into town and restaurants. Area was very quiet. Highly recommended.
As mentioned to the receptionist, the bathroom fan doesn't turn off in order to prevent excessive moisture build-up in the bathroom, but the white noise - though not very loud - is a bit annoying overnight. She assured us this was an issue they were trying to resolve.
Great location, lovely staff, pretty garden.
There was a problem in the kitchen in the morning, but the staff handled it well
Good location for station. Clean and comfortable room. Good breakfast included. Friendly helpful staff
No evening food- go out or order delivery
Lovely hotel only steps from railway station. Room was modern and clean with a large shower. Staff welcoming and friendly. I prefer a self serve breakfast but good selection on the menu and we enjoyed it. Would definitely recommend a stay here.
No dislikes.
Lots. Very convenient location. Very friendly staff. Breakfast was excellent quality. Good shower. Nice the windows open.
Very little, the layout of the room could have been better with regard to viewing the television. Need to have more convenient usb charging sockets.
We like the ethos. Rooms are comfortable and clean. Parking available. You can walk to the cricket ground and in the evening to many restaurants.
Breakfast can be hot and miss with not everything available. Bathroom fans never switch off.
Close to the station
There was only towels for one person even though the reservation was for two adults one room
Interesting history . Great staff. Very clean Freshly cooked breakfast
Lovely hotel clean and Close to town
Rooms were not very sound proofed and breakfast menu was not that good not much choice only realy fried food no real choice of food
Breakfast is very good and the dining area is pleasant and airy.
Breakfast is available from 8am slightly earlier would be better say 7.30am
The person working evening / night was lovely, even though I arrived later than expected. Fresh milk for the room is a lovely touch. Bedroom was really big and bathroom is spacious with an excellent walk in shower. Large comfy bed with decent pillows and cotton bedding. Breakfast is cooked to order and delicious, with proper thick toast (none of that cheap thin bread that you often get these days). Right opposite the station which is great after a long journey. My colleague had driven - registering for the car parking was easy. I love the values of the hotel, which is run by the YMCA, and will definitely stay here again :-)
Nothing
Excellent food. Late bar very helpful. Great location for meeting friends from train. Staff wonderful with pet dog.
Perfect location right across the road from the station
Nothing
The staff were amazing. So friendly, welcoming and helpful. The night watchman was absolutely super. Car parking available no charge. Easy 10 minute walk into town.
Room was rather expensive for what it was. No hair conditioner in bathroom, toilet seat was loose, not enough sockets in bedroom and limited clothes hanging space/ hangers. However I failed to mention any of this during my stay so no opportunities for the wonderful staff to remedy these minor issues.
Convenient to station. Comfortable.
Stay good until breakfast. Fridge not working in kitchens. This was not the fault of staff. However the alternative breakfast was terrible. Opted for scrambled eggs - 1st offering - what appeared hard boiled eggs chopped up on toast 1 inch thick. Returned. Proper scrambled eggs but very solid and overcooked - again on very thick toast. No marmalade - this is breakfast. Very disappointing. If you can’t make scrambled eggs don’t offer it.
Location very central. Staff extremely polite and helpful. Great breakfast included with price.
Nothing.
Breakfast was very good, very convenient for Somerset Crcket Ground. Staff helpful.
Room slightly noisy, bar closes early and no evening meals. Effectively you need to go out to enjoy a meal and drink. Saying that there are several pubs and restaurants in walking distance but drinks with snack evening meals would be useful in the hotel until a little later than 8.
Very convenient hotel with extremely pleasant staff. Had to change rooms after one night as extractor fan in bathroom was very noisy.
Close to the station. Can was to Taunton Cricket ground. Can walk to restaurants in the evening. But above all we support its ethos.
Staff are friendly, breakfast is great, room was charming and the location perfect.
WiFi isn’t up to scratch; not a hotel to work from
We had a lovely spacious room and well appointed bathroom. All members of staff were helpful, polite and courteous. There was a good choice of breakfast and the bonus was a free and good-sized car park on-site..
The bathroom basin was rather small.
Stayed over night with my husband. No need fo drive as located opposite Taunton train station. Lovely decor massive clean and welcoming room and really friendly and helpful staff. Will be back
A charming hotel with very friendly staff. Rooms clean and fresh with cute decor. Beds comfortable with a soft mattress Heating very noisy during the night which disrupted our sleep frequently Coffee and milk for the room very poor quality Cooked breakfast very poor quality but coffee really nice from the dining room.
Spent a very pleasant hour having a drink as our train was delayed. Sophie was lovely, friendly & professional. Contemporary decor mixed with original features really well.
Good location Comfy bed Spacious room
Breakfast was abysmal. Cold and badly cooked Trains rattle the windows through the night. No wardrobe in the room
Good location. Excellent breakfast. Quiet
Dirty carpet. Unabke to walk around room as it was toi small (baroiw gap at end of bed). Mo wvening meals. Desk hard to use because if large bin underneath.
Great breakfast. Love all the memorabilia of the railway. Perfect location
Nothing comes to mind
On the whole it was fine. Would i stop there again. Yes
some noise coming from the station in the night. They may have been working on the line.
Have stayed at this hotel a few times as it is convenient for early morning trains, but if you arrive after c. 8pm it's a lottery as to whether you"ll be let in despite pre-booking. On two occasions I eventually got the night porter to let me in after knocking on various windows (doorbell didn't work). Most recently arrived and couldn't get in at all so had to stay elsewhere. Nobody around at all. I won't be staying again! It makes Fawtly Towers seem like a slick operation!
Wonderful location and the food was superb. Very impressed
Closeness to station Polite staff
Noise on the first night
Staff were very friendly and polite. The room seemed on first glance nicely decorated and the hotel clearly has a lot of history. Breakfast quality was excellent. As a 3* hotel for £100 a night it would be good. However, at £150 there was a lack of attention to detail which meant the price point was not justified. Specifically, - The foyer area could be cleaner, floor mopped, likewise the lounge area. Dirty with lots of bits and tables sticky. - The room had some quite dirty parts e.g. window frames, edges of bathroom, radiator, valance on bed very stained - The room was battered in places e.g. peeling paint, bashed skirting, peeling wallpaper and scuffed wall. New sugar lumps put on top of old conjealed sugar. - The room said it came with a bottle of wine, it had 2 mini bottles. I asked for the included bottle of wine and was given another mini bottle. Felt short changed on this. - Staff were friendly and nice but not proactive e.g. during food they could ask if it was ok, wanting any more drinks, explaining what you could order versus extra charge items etc. - Bed was lumpy - It would be nice to have more information on the history of the hotel, maybe old photos or story or rennovation. The above points are based on the price point of the hotel (actually significantly more expensive than most others in the area) which was not justifed based on the quality of the offer. Could easily be improved and at low cost with more attention to detail.
Bed was comfy. Clean room.
Although it said parking available staying guests. There was an event on, and they said a space wouldn’t be available until after 5pm, which was a big inconvenient. So had to pay another £9.80 to park in the multi story car park next door. My logic is that they should prioritise staying guests over event guests. Or just say limited parking. Breakfast was awful. I ordered a granola bowl - but it had so much lemon curd at the bottom, runny yogurt, lots of berry compote and only a sprinkle of granola at the top. It was so odd. Had to send it back. Asked for toast and a coffee toast came out. Cold. With hard butter and didn’t return with any coffee. Breakfast is included. But it felt like too much effort for them to be attentive. Such a shame.
Given 1 star only. Towels and sheets clean and staff pleasant but that's the only good points. Room was cold, Radiator obviously needs attention as only 1/4 of it worked but wasn't even on when got there. Bedroom carpet was patched and dirty. Bathroom sink was so tiny couldn't get kettle under tap to fill it. Sink also leaked water from underneath. Toilet flush handle broken. View out of window was dumped radiators and old guttering. As hallway outside rooms had no carpets footsteps could be heard all through the night by people and night watchman. Cooked breakfast was only available after 8am and Grab and Go breakfast consisted of a plain croissant, a health bar and a banana. No yoghurt as stated on website. Very poor. Wouldn't stay again. Wouldn't recommend. Certainly not worth £122.20. Should have gone Premier inn.
All my scoring is based on an admiration of the YMCA project which I have known about since Beach Hotel project. The room exceeded expectations -- except I was unable to make the shower gel dispenser work, the staff were brilliant..again one needed to appreciate the project better to more easily accept how good it was. The room was great..had all we wanted. Shame there is no lounge..but it is a railway .transit hotel. I did us the gents downstairs and there was no toilet paper there .so that routine needs further checking.
I just love the hotel ...and no major thing I didn't like. It's a gem..and I'm sure will get even better if resources allow. Great to see 12 Bedrooms booked.
Location excellent and breakfast very good. I know the staff are young but they were all a bit confused at breakfast and the young man looked like he hadnt showered for days and could do with a hair cut
very noisy outside at night due to the location, but that isnt your fault
Great location for commuting, staff very friendly and loved that there was proper coffee in the room :)
The property is very well maintained.
That I had to leave.
Breakfast was good, the room was clean but basic and the bathroom was nearly as big as the bedroom 😊
Check in person was blunt and had obviously had never heard of the words, please or thank you. The hotel is looking a little tired and needs some money spent on it, and finally I booked 2 rooms, one with Booking.com for my wife and I for 2 nights at a cost of £209 and one, a bigger family room directly with the hotel, because it couldn’t be done on line, for 2 nights for £112.!! Moral of the story, book direct!
That it was so close to the station.
Poor staff.
Amazing staff. So pleasant and helpful.
Lovely boutique hotel based on GWR as it us opposite the railway station peaceful and lovely staff
