riesige Hotelanlage viel zu viel Trubel wenig Individualität, Restaurant Humuhumu... deutlich überbewertet viel zu teuer für winzige Portionen mitttelmässiger Qualität .. The room was very clean. Beautiful grounds.
Very busy and my kids are teenagers now. This would have been the most perfect place to bring them when they were just a little younger.
Das schönste Hotel in dem wir jemals waren! Es war echt traumhaft

Absolutely extortionate spa and shopping. Same with the restaurants. Some things were x4 the price is the local stores. I didn’t like that the spa automatically charged 20% service charge and makes you wait till the end to edit it. Nor did I like the lack of transparency over the tax they add at the bill.
My wife and I were attracted to the Grand Wailea for a four-day relaxing getaway from Honolulu. We knew that the hotel featured a Nobu restaurant on the property, the location and facility looked fabulous, a standard room started at just under $800 per night, and the Royal Suite was offered at about $4,000 per day plus the usual extra fees. Looking for the best experience we could possibly have, we reserved the Royal Suite. Our expectations were formed in that context. What could possibly go wrong? With the exception of a truly wonderful meal at Nobu that exceeded our expectations, we quickly discovered lots could go wrong. Indeed, we found it necessary to check out after one night, as detailed below. • Upon arrival, no bellman was offered to assist with our luggage. We can still manage our luggage, but at the ages of 81 and 76 years, it is a nice touch to have bell service. • The arrival experience was entirely routine. There was no acknowledgment that we were guests of the very expensive Royal Suite, no welcome from management, no escort to the suite, and none of the personal touches typically associated with a hotel's premier accommodations. • The Royal Suite lacked any of the amenities commonly associated with a flagship luxury suite, such as a welcome note, flowers, fruit, a bottle of champagne or wine, or other thoughtful touches. • The following morning, we ordered breakfast from room service. When I ordered and requested a “pot of coffee for two,” the response was, “We only serve room-service coffee in to-go cups.” Yes, and the meal was delivered in paper sacks with paper plates, plastic utensils, and coffee served only in takeaway cups, as promised. When we inquired about this presentation, a member of the staff explained that these service practices had been adopted during COVID and had remained in place. • The issue that ultimately made continuing the stay unacceptable was the malfunctioning bedroom air conditioning. Despite being set to 68 degrees, the bedroom remained at approximately 74 degrees throughout the night, creating a warm, humid environment that prevented comfortable sleep. Our adjoining sitting room maintained the selected temperature, suggesting that the problem was isolated to the bedroom. Before making the decision to check out early, I requested the opportunity to meet with the General Manager. I was informed that the resort was under the direction of a temporary General Manager who was not on the property and that no one could tell me when she would be available. I therefore met with the Front Office Manager. He advised that the hotel would waive the room charges associated with our early departure and indicated that he would discuss the matter further with his "management team.” I appreciated that the hotel waived the room charges associated with our early departure, allowing my wife and me to depart two days earlier than scheduled without penalty. That said, I sent a summary of our experience to the General Manager and asked for reconsideration of the approximately $4,000 in charges for the night due to the numerous service deficiencies, especially the malfunctioning air conditioning that resulted in an uncomfortable night, but I have received no response in the two weeks since.
Severely disappointing experience. We paid for the room in full upon arrival and wanted to use a different credit card for incidentals, but their "old system" apparently couldn't handle that. As a result, they charged our card duplicate tax charges for a room that was already paid off — and couldn't reverse it. Now, over a week after checkout, we're still dealing with duplicate charges on our card and a manager who won't return our calls. They also put a hold on our credit card for incidentals, then charged us separately for every meal and extra — which is not standard practice. On top of that, front desk staff gave us inaccurate information multiple times, which suggests a lack of proper training. As for the pool, the loungers are crammed so tightly together that you're essentially on top of other guests. It's clear they're prioritizing cramming in as many chairs as possible over guest comfort. Overall, a frustrating stay with ongoing billing issues that still haven't been resolved. We won't be returning.
Pacific Dream Photography at the Grand Wailea Hotel Working with Cacoa and Jim from Pacific Dream Photography was an absolute delight! 🌴📸 Their energy and creativity made every moment of our beach photo session feel effortless and fun. They captured the beauty of Maui and the joy of our vacation perfectly — from the beautiful beach and hotel to the spontaneous laughter. Jim’s showing of the pictures was professional yet relaxed, and Cacoa’s eye for detail turned simple moments into stunning memories. We couldn’t have asked for a better team to document our trip. Highly recommend them for anyone wanting vibrant, heartfelt photos that truly reflect the spirit of paradise!
If I would go check in at the hotel at night I would think twice before going in line the man at the car rentals charged us to put the car in the parking lot without telling us and there was a 3 hour wait and when I got in the hotel room there were bugs EVERYWHERE and it was so disgusting there were insects spiders and cockroaches and the pool wasn’t properly cleaned I saw a bunch of dead flies and trash and someone even left there beer and sunglasses on a rock with sand everywhere and one of the employees were very rude and ignored us when we said excuse me so and so there was no one for one hour to clean our hotel room even though we were the first ones
I am writing to formally submit a serious complaint regarding my experience as a J-1 employee at Grand Wailea Resort. After everything that has happened during my time here, I feel it is important that this situation is reviewed because my experience was completely different from what was presented to us before arriving in Hawaii. From the very beginning, there were signs that something was not right. We were originally told that we would be working at Andaz, but after arriving, we were placed at Grand Wailea instead. We were also expecting to be assigned to a different position than the one we were given. The reality of the job was very different from what was explained to us before coming. Instead of having the opportunity to gain the experience that was promised, we were placed in situations that felt unfair and disrespectful. We were required to spend long periods of time working outside around the pool area, exposed to extreme sun and uncomfortable conditions, while dealing with dirty environments, even though our understanding was that we would be working in guest rooms and performing the responsibilities related to that position. The housing situation was one of the biggest problems. The company housing conditions were unacceptable. The house was overcrowded, and there was a serious cockroach infestation. The problem was so bad that we could not even prepare food normally because cockroaches would appear around our meals. We reported these issues, but the situation was not properly resolved. Despite these conditions, we were not treated fairly regarding our housing deposit. We were told that the deposit would not be returned, even though there were no damages caused by us. According to the housing agreement, damages should be deducted from the deposit if they exist, but there were no damages. The deposit should not be withheld without a valid reason, especially considering the poor living conditions we had to tolerate. Regarding employment, I feel that J-1 employees were treated differently compared to regular employees. At my first mistake, I was suspended, while other employees appeared to receive multiple warnings for similar or worse situations. The discipline process did not feel consistent or fair. Before arriving, we were also told there would be opportunities for financial growth and advancement, including the possibility of increasing our pay from $20 to $25 per hour. However, this opportunity was never actually available for J-1 employees in our department. We came here expecting growth and a valuable work experience, but those promises did not become reality. Although we received the minimum number of hours stated in the contract (32 hours), the schedule made it extremely difficult to have a normal life. After paying for housing, food, and basic expenses, there was almost nothing left to enjoy the cultural exchange experience that the J-1 program is supposed to provide. Our schedules were arranged in a way that often prevented us from having the same free time as our friends or being able to explore Hawaii. When I tried to raise concerns about this situation, I felt disrespected. My department manager, Edwin, told me that I was basically a “backup wheel” for employees — meaning that when their employees did not want to come in, we would be the ones expected to work. This comment was extremely discouraging and made me feel that J-1 employees were viewed as replacements rather than valued team members. I also noticed a significant difference in expectations between J-1 employees and regular employees. We were constantly held accountable for every small mistake, even though we were often working harder and showing more commitment than many regular employees. Meanwhile, some regular employees were able to spend parts of their shifts doing very little without the same level of pressure. I have videos documenting situations where employees were not actively working during their scheduled shifts. Another example of the lack of consideration was my birthday. I requested time off but was told that I needed to provide two weeks’ notice. However, I did not even know my schedule far enough in advance to make that request properly. I was still required to come to work instead of being able to enjoy an important personal day. Overall, my experience from the moment I arrived until the moment I decided to leave this hotel has been extremely disappointing. I feel that the expectations presented before coming to Hawaii did not match reality. Instead of being a cultural exchange opportunity where students could work, travel, and experience Hawaii, the situation became focused only on working, with little opportunity to enjoy the experience we came here for. I believe this situation represents unfair treatment toward J-1 students and does not reflect the purpose of the Work and Travel program. Students should not feel trapped, undervalued, or used only when additional labor is needed. I am requesting a serious review of: * the recruitment and placement process; * the difference between the position promised and the position provided; * the working conditions and treatment of J-1 employees; * housing conditions and deposit handling; * disciplinary practices; * management behavior toward J-1 participants. I have messages, photos, and videos that support the concerns mentioned above and I am willing to provide them as part of an investigation. I hope this complaint is taken seriously. I came to Hawaii expecting a positive cultural and professional experience, but unfortunately my time at Grand Wailea became an experience that I will never forget for the wrong reasons.
I have not written a review in years, so you know I have something to share if I do. This is our 4th stay. We were loyal to this hotel. We absolutely loved it and everything about it especially the rooms. Howver, we checked in today. Don't waste your time. I am so very disappointed in this hotel. It has gone way way downhill. Upon checking in, we immediately had to change rooms. Wow.... Dirt. Smell. Stains on rug. Furniture beat to hell. It's like they stopped caring. We changed rooms and lost our ocean view just to get the hell out of that room. Slightly better. Somewhat cleaner. Still a huge disappointment. They have not renovated or even painted these rooms since we were here 9 years ago. This was a $1000 per night room. I wouldn't pay $200. It's not just the rooms. The grounds, the property have all gone down. I've been here 5hrs and regretting this decision and I have 13 more nights to go. I'm still not happy or comfortable in this room but it was all they could offer. Do better Grand Wailea. Anyone thinking of coming here for the price, Consider another hotel. This hotel has seen better days and they don't care and it shows. P.S. I will say the staff have all been top notch....very professional, kind, and lovely. That is one thing they got right.
Our stay at Grand Wailea was unforgettable, thanks to the incredible service from Ashley and Donna. When a minor issue arose with our room, Ashley, the Hotel Manager, handled it with professionalism, urgency, and genuine care. She quickly found the perfect solution, followed up throughout our stay, and made sure our family felt truly valued. Her commitment to guest satisfaction completely elevated our vacation. Donna, our breakfast server, was equally exceptional. Her warm personality, attentive service, and fantastic local recommendations made every morning something to look forward to. Exceptional service like theirs is what defines true hospitality. Thank you, Ashley and Donna, for making our family vacation so memorable! Resort A+ Service A+
Grand Wailea had been on my Maui wish list for years, but there was no way my travel budget was going to survive an entire week here. After hunting for deals, I managed to book one night for about $700, which somehow qualifies as a bargain at this resort. Even so, once you add the $80/night valet parking (there's no self-parking) and the $55 daily resort fee (plus tax), the costs add up quickly. My solution was simple: splurge on one unforgettable night, then move to a much more budget-friendly hotel in Kihei for the next two nights. It turned out to be the perfect strategy. I took an early morning flight from Kona, landed in Kahului, picked up my rental car, and pulled into Grand Wailea around 10:00 a.m., hoping for an early check-in. My room wasn't ready yet, but the staff immediately stored my luggage and encouraged me to enjoy the resort while I waited. That level of hospitality set the tone for the rest of my stay. Instead of sitting around watching the clock, I changed into my swimsuit and spent the next four hours exploring what is probably the most impressive resort pool complex I've experienced anywhere. The famous Wailea Canyon pools absolutely deserve their reputation. Between the lazy river, waterslides, waterfalls, hidden grottoes, rope swing, multiple pools, and beautifully landscaped tropical grounds, you could easily spend an entire vacation without getting bored. Every turn seems to reveal another pool, another waterfall, or another perfect place to relax. Speaking of the room, I was assigned one of the resort's newly renovated guestrooms, and it felt exactly what I'd expect from a luxury property at this price point. Bright, modern Hawaiian décor, a comfortable bed, a spacious bathroom, and a fresh upscale feel throughout. I'd read older reviews mentioning dated rooms, but those concerns seem largely behind the resort now. I noticed a little maintenance work in a few areas of the property, but nothing disruptive and certainly nothing that detracted from the experience. The next morning I checked out, left my luggage with bell services again, and squeezed in another three hours by the pool before finally driving over to Kihei. If you're paying Grand Wailea prices, you might as well enjoy every minute. A couple of tips for fellow travelers: Parking: Grand Wailea currently charges $80 per night for valet parking, so I parked legally on Kaukahi Street near the Fairmont Kea Lani and enjoyed the roughly 12–15 minute walk to the resort. It saved enough money to make the walk well worth it. Food: Resort restaurants are excellent but expensive. If you're looking to keep costs under control without sacrificing quality, Island Gourmet Markets at The Shops at Wailea is just a short walk away. It's much more than a grocery store, serving freshly prepared hot meals, sandwiches, burgers, and salads at prices that are refreshingly reasonable by Wailea standards. It became my favorite off-property option. As for me... somewhere between floating the lazy river, soaking up the Hawaiian sunshine, and wandering the grounds in a turquoise bikini, I noticed the resort seemed to have almost as many friendly smiles as palm trees. Whether they were directed at me or simply the vacation mood everyone seemed to be in, I'll happily take either. Would I stay here for an entire week? Probably not unless my lottery numbers finally cooperate. Would I absolutely splurge for one night again, arrive early, leave late, and maximize every possible hour? Without hesitation. Five stars. Grand Wailea is every bit the luxury resort it's famous for, and with a little planning, you don't need an unlimited budget to experience the very best it has to offer.
AWFUL!!!! Lots of staff apologizing. Sorry for the 50 minute wait for shaved ice. Sorry for the 45 minute wait for the terrible over priced breakfast buffet. Sorry for the 15 minute wait just to get beach towels. Sorry there are NO pool chairs available. Sorry that we served you sesame seeds that you're deathly allergic to. Sorry that you hear people running and making noise during quiet hours but can't switch rooms. Sorry that your room smells like a gym locker/mold. Sorry the low battery for the smoke alarm is going off at 2:30 am. Sorry that the valet take 15-20 minutes even at 6 am. Sorry that the pool toilets are disgusting, covered in feces, and have no toilet paper. Sorry that the elevators, water machines, restrooms, etc. etc. etc. are out of order. I have never hated my stay so much as I have hated it here. This stay was so terrible that even my children were asking if we could leave--and we camp in tents ever summer.
Beautiful property with pools that kids can only dream of . The staff were all so kind and hard-working , from the front desk , to valet , to housekeeping . The grounds themselves, however , couldn’t merit a 5 star review . We were a bit disappointed on a few things. The most important was the pool safety regarding the lounge chairs . They have crammed as many lounge chairs as possible, leading to guest safety . Within one hour of our arrival , I tripped on a chair and fell over a second chair. I have never been so severely bruised in my lifetime . I didn’t report at that the time because I didn’t want the hotel to think I was taking advantage of anything , which is why I choose to wait until checking out to review . I saw several other people tripping on the chairs. I found the most dangerous part of the pool to be between the rope drop and facing the beach . I kid not , there was a section of chairs with maybe 6 inches away from the pool water . Another thing I would have appreciated is more towel service stations, especially along the beach . At the price point , it is definitely an inconvenience to have to walk to the main pool area for towels or drop off . More hydro stations along the back area of the pool would also be appreciated . Overall a beautiful , pleasant stay but a few changes should be considered . PS: for parents of young children, skip the buffet - your kids won’t be able to eat $50 worth of food the buffet charges for them.
Honestly, we had a great trip up until the very last morning. The resort is beautiful and the staff was friendly. Then we picked up our car. Valet had put deep, thick scratches all the way down the passenger front fender and said absolutely nothing. We found out at the rental return counter. Last day of our trip. Just completely speechless. For this trip, as well, there were long valet waits, crowded pools, and kids running everywhere. Similarly, everything seemed to have a wait. In fact, we didn’t get checked in until two whole hours after we were guaranteed to because of some “delay”. But you can't damage someone's car and just stay quiet about it. That's not a luxury experience. That's not even basic decency. For what this hotel costs per night, we deserved so much better than that. Beautiful property. Won't be back. Show less
My wife and I recently stayed at the Grand Wailea to celebrate her birthday. While the property itself is stunning and boasts some genuinely great amenities, the experience was a confusing mix of highs and deeply frustrating lows. The frustration started immediately. The valet was in a massive rush to get me out of the car without listening to my questions about early check-in. I was told temporary parking wasn't allowed without someone staying in the car - an odd policy for guests who might just need a restroom break after a long drive. Prior to arrival, I received an email stating that if my room wasn't ready, the bellman would store our luggage on the 4th floor and we could enjoy an "exclusive private check-in" at the 8th-floor Napua Lounge. None of this happened. The bell desk informed me the 8th-floor staff went on lunch break at 2 PM and never returned. I was forced into a massive, slow-moving line on the 4th floor with only four staff members helping about eight families. When I finally got to the front, I was handed keys without a room number and told to wait in the lobby for a text. I booked a 1 King Bed with Sofa bed, Ocean View. I was grateful they upgraded us to the Napua Tower for my wife’s birthday, but the room lacked an actual ocean view from the inside. I could only see the building across from us unless I went out to the balcony and look at the right corner. Worse, the room wasn't properly prepared. The bed and pillows were messy, and there was a white, crusty spill (coffee or food sauce) over the TV. Despite calling to request a cleaning while we went out, housekeeping remade the bed but completely ignored the dirty TV. This was arguably the most nonsensical part of the stay. The beachside shop closes at 3:30 PM - the prime time guests want to be on the beach for sunset! If you don't return your Tommy Bahama beach chair (which retails for about $100 brand new) by 3:30, they charge a $100 penalty to your room. Furthermore, to get two chairs for my wife and me, the staff demanded we both be physically present to check them out. If a family of 10 wants chairs, all 10 people have to stand in line. On top of this, everyone is forced to wear plastic wristbands. For a luxury resort, this feels incredibly cheap, wasteful, and poorly managed. You are forced into an $80/night valet with no self-parking option - which cost me more than four days of gas driving around the island. Add to that a $55 daily resort fee, and it feels like pure greed when you are already paying upwards of $1,200+ a night. To top it off, my checkout invoice was wrong. My property credits were not applied correctly, resulting in overcharges that staff dismissed by saying it would "calculate automatically" (it didn't). While email communication was okay, the chat feature on the hotel’s app and website is completely useless, taking forever to get a response. The pools and jacuzzis are exceptionally clean, well-managed, and expansive. There is more than enough space for everyone, so it never feels uncomfortably crowded. The poolside, lounge, and housekeeping staff were incredibly friendly and always willing to help with directions or questions. The beach right in front of the resort is fantastic. It’s a truly wonderful place to relax and watch the sunset. Although email responses were slow in the days leading up to the trip, the concierge staff was very supportive once connected and personally helped me re-coordinate a dinner reservation. The room itself (aside from the view and TV) featured a great sofa, nice decor, and a spotless bathroom. Ultimately, the Grand Wailea is a classic case of "all sizzle and no steak". The natural beauty and physical property are fantastic, but the exorbitant and hidden fees, lack of basic communication between departments, and insulting, restrictive guest policies severely detract from what should be a world-class luxury experience.
We booked this hotel for our summer vacation with our little ones based on all the great reviews about the pool and its close proximity to the beach. Those reviews were absolutely accurate..... the pool is huge with multiple slides, and the beach is just a short walk away. Unfortunately, the customer service completely overshadowed those positives, and I would never stay here again. During our stay, there was a county-wide water outage that left the hotel without water for part of the day. The county restored service at around 2:00 p.m., but our room didn't have running water until approximately 9:00 p.m. What made the situation even more frustrating was that the spa had running water almost immediately after the county restored service. I waited in line at the front desk for over an hour, only to be told there was nothing they could do because the building was so large that it would take time for water pressure to return. Meanwhile, there were only two employees working the front desk despite the long line of guests with questions and concerns. When I asked to speak with the manager, the experience only got worse. She insisted it was entirely a county issue, even though parts of the property, including the spa, already had running water. Instead of acknowledging the inconvenience or showing any empathy, she dismissed our concerns. The most disappointing part was the complete lack of customer service. We received no apology, no explanation beyond repeating that it was a county problem, and no gesture of good will, not even a voucher for dinner or any other form of compensation after being without running water in our room until about 9:00 p.m. For a hotel that markets itself as a five-star property, I also expected a much higher standard of cleanliness. The pool frequently had bugs floating in it, and on one day we even found a cockroach in the pool. That was especially disappointing considering we chose this hotel because of its pool. The location and pool are wonderful, but the way this situation was handled, combined with the cleanliness issues and underwhelming dining, left us extremely disappointed. Based on our experience, we will not be returning, and I cannot recommend this hotel to others looking for a true five-star experience.
Sadly I was very much looking forward to our first time in Maui. Unfortunately, not at all what we would expect from a Waldorf. Service was very much lacking while property was dated and very overcrowded. Unfortunately, it didn’t live up to our expectations in the slightest. So much so that we have been looking to move hotels to salvage what’s left of our 10 day trip.
I went to the restaurant Nobu but used their valet parking. The attendant stole my handicap placard. The valet parking manager was completely useless when I reported the theft.
It was an older hotel. For being a Waldorf Astoria property, we had very high expectations. We loved the lazy river and pool offerings. The fireworks show on the 4th of July was good. The property was beautiful, but we were disappointed when we called for extra pillows and were told we were on a pillow waitlist. In addition, having to wait in line to get towels and a wristband each day felt a bit unnecessary. We are paying a lot of money to stay at the hotel and it felt like we were being questioned just to get pool towels. In addition, it was disappointing that our luggage wasn’t brought to our room. Yes, we can do it, but this was the only hotel out of four during our Hawaii trip where luggage was not taken to our room.
We are still here and have a 9 night stay. We have to rooms and we requested adjoining, but of course they didn't give us adjoining they were a few doors down from each other. We arrived 9:30PM from a veryyyy long travel day and the front desk was not nice at all. You would expect some better hospitality at a place like this. The next day, Gilbert helped us get the adjoining rooms, (still a little bit of a process but thank you Gil) he was great. I want to mention on our first full day here the water main broke and we had no running water for upwards of 8 hours. Most of the pool area was closed and we had to cancel our dinner reservations because the water didn't come back on until 8:30PM. This wasn't the hotel's fault, but they weren't willing to give the guests ANYTHING for the inconvenience. Ideally, we wanted to stay here and go on some excursions etc so we rented a car. $80/daily for car rental, $55 daily resort fee per room (we have 2) plus a daily resort tax and excise tax per room. Just be prepared if you are thinking of coming. Resort is ridiculously overpriced for how outdated and poor quality everything is. I will give you some examples- there is only 1 tiny garbage can in each room (located in the bathroom), no dimmers-so prepare for the brightest possible light in your room and the bathroom at all times. iIn the KING SIZE bedrooms at the Molokini Tower Suites, the Tv faces the side of the bed, so you can sit there and strain your neck like a dummy if you ever want to watch the non-smart TV. Bugs and fruit flies everywhere. How are you charging me $12 for a croissant on a sticky tray I just saw bugs crawling around? Then when we sat outside the overpriced cafe- there were ants everywhere. When we were in the pool, it was dirty- where is the filtration? Location is the only reason this place gets 2 stars, it is close to the beach and other stuff you may want to explore. Nobu experience was also nice and we will see how the Lu-Au goes. Otherwise this place would be a ZERO. I wouldn't stay here again. No other meaningful activities for the kids other than pool.
It’s just not the same…. Like so many things these days it just isn’t up to the standards it once was for luxury, quality and service. This was my fifth trip to the Grand Wailea since it originally opened. The grounds were still mostly beautiful although many tiki torches were nonfunctioning, handrails missing, cracked, missing tiles at the adult pool was particularly sad to see and areas within the grounds that just seemed unkept, especially around the old Asian restaurant, which is now shuttered/abandoned. Upon arrival, I immediately knew that something was a miss when the incredible waterfall that sets the tone for the grandeur that was always promised was inoperative. The staff says it has been broken for over a year and has not been fixed. This was the center piece of the tropical experience for me. It is this lack of maintenance that would keep me from going back to the Grand Wailea as it is no longer a five star resort, even after their $350 million partial resort renovation. Our ocean view room was large and comfortable, but the decor was as basic as a Holiday Inn. One picture, one decorative mirror was all the design afforded. You could tell they’ve cut way back on staff too. It is still a worthy of at least one holid if your priority is to enjoy the extensive pools, slides, etc. If you’re truly looking for a five star experience, the Four Seasons is a better choice.
Extremely Disappointing Stay and Service Failures Throughout After spending three wonderful weeks in Hawaii, this hotel was supposed to be the highlight that capped off our family vacation. Unfortunately, it ended up being the most disappointing property we stayed at during the entire trip. Upon arriving in our room, we discovered that the shower was full of standing water, with dirty water actively backing up through the drain. I immediately contacted the front desk and was told maintenance would be right up. Wanting to salvage part of our afternoon, I sent my family to the beach while I waited for maintenance and our luggage. Maintenance took over an hour to arrive, and our luggage took even longer. I attempted to call the Bell Captain desk three separate times without receiving an answer. I ultimately had to use the hotel’s SMS messaging system to get our bags delivered. After maintenance addressed the drain issue, I specifically requested housekeeping clean the shower area because the water that had backed up was clearly dirty. The maintenance technician agreed and said he would make sure it was taken care of. When we returned from the beach, we found the shower had not been cleaned and appeared to have backed up again. I attempted to call the front desk four times and received no answer. At that point, I had to walk back to the front desk and speak with staff in person. We were eventually moved to another room, but this meant relocating our entire family with two wet, tired, hungry children after already losing hours of our vacation dealing with problems that should never have occurred in the first place. The manager on duty apologized and offered a $150 credit. While appreciated, it felt inadequate considering the amount of time, inconvenience, and frustration involved. Unfortunately, the problems did not stop there. The valet service repeatedly brought us the wrong vehicle and seemed disorganized throughout our stay. Even more concerning, we discovered multiple valet charges posted to our account each day, requiring repeated visits to the front desk to have them corrected. When reviewing our final bill, we also found restaurant charges that did not belong to us. Thankfully, we caught them before checking out, but it raises concerns about the accuracy of guest billing. My advice to anyone staying here is to carefully review every charge on your folio before departure. What stood out most was the overall lack of hospitality. Of all the hotels we stayed at during our trip—every one of them Hilton properties except for one night in Hāna—this staff was by far the least welcoming and least responsive. Interactions often felt transactional, as if guests were simply being processed rather than genuinely cared for. I also emailed the General Manager after our stay outlining these concerns in detail. Unfortunately, I never received any response or acknowledgment. We booked this stay using Hilton Honors points earned through years of loyalty to the Hilton brand. Redeeming points should not result in a lesser guest experience. In fact, those points represent significant prior business with Hilton. Experiences like this make me seriously question that loyalty. The property itself may be beautiful, but service, responsiveness, and attention to detail matter just as much. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend this hotel and would encourage future guests to carefully inspect their room and thoroughly review their charges before checkout.
Positives: location and grounds Why I won’t go back: waaaay overpriced for what you get. building is tired and showing wear. Pool attendants: not cleaning up in a timely manner. Birds get into the food and causes a mess. Birds then poop everywhere - including towels and clothes. Granted, the vacationers are 90% entitled and don’t clean up after themselves, but I fished several bags out of the pool and put them in the walkway - employees just walked by and eventually they got back into the pool I finally threw them away and cleaned up the mess our seat neighbors left where about 50 birds were feasting. $75 a day for car parking and mandatory valet. Missed our dinner reservation because I called 4 times 30 mins before and no answer. Went down and it took them 25 mins to get my car. You force me to use valet and then can’t actually get my vehicle? $55 a day for resort fee and limited to no benefit. Beach chairs are gone by 7. 2 reusable water bottles - we had 4 in our group. zero value for the “fee” Dining - at least double what the food is worth. went offsite after the first night and found much better options for way less Pools - much less impressive than reviews would show. tough to find chairs First and last time going there. Went to Aulani twice and its heads and shoulders above GW. I recommend staying somewhere else.
This place destroyed the entire Waldorf Astoria brand. The place is old and dirty. The rooms are disgusting. They have a cockroach problem, carpets are stained, towels are stained, the list is endless. What about the service you ask?! Just as horrific as the resort itself. They should be priced as a motel! Don't even think of wasting a minute or a dollar at this place.
Grand Wailea’s website promises “a retreat shaped by nature,” “restful escapism,” and “balance at every turn,” billing itself as “Maui’s premier luxury beachfront destination.” We stayed in June. The reality is closer to a mid-tier Las Vegas resort having a bad week … for five-star money. Start with parking, because it tells you everything. $75 a day to valet, no self-park option, and tips expected on top. So you queue ten to fifteen deep at almost any hour for the privilege of having your wallet emptied. So much for restful escapism. The “premier beachfront destination” was heaving throughout. Sun loungers were a daily scramble … and if you wanted one on the beach, that cost extra too. Breakfast meant queues forty deep. Nothing about the operation suggested anyone was managing flow or guest experience; it simply absorbed the crowds and let them fend for themselves. Balance at every turn, indeed. Then the basics. General cleaning was poor. Bird mess in places looked like it hadn’t been touched in years … not a one-off miss, but ingrained neglect you wouldn’t accept at a roadside motel, let alone a Waldorf Astoria. Standards that should be non-negotiable at this price point were plainly absent. And the charging never stopped. Everything carried a fee, billed left and right. Food pricing was frankly obscene …even by resort standards, the markups were hard to stomach. This is a property that treats guests as a revenue stream rather than people it has any relationship with … every interaction another opportunity to reach into your pocket. The most telling part was service recovery … or the lack of it. Upgrades we were offered never materialised. Management on the ground were apathetic and did nothing until Hilton corporate became involved. Only then did anyone engage. A genuine luxury operation recovers proactively. This one had to be forced into it from above.
Our family of 10 had an absolutely amazing adventure, and this resort exceeded every exception. Staying in the Napua level made the experience truly exceptional from the moment we arrived. The personalized service was outstanding with Faye really being the standout, she was exceptional. The Napua lounge was one of our favorite parts of the stay as well as a relaxing place to gather throughout the day. It was a great destination for a multigenerational vacation. Our family created memories we’ll cherish for a lifetime. Thank you
Amazing experience overall. Concierge floors in napua was perfect. Faye and Maria were outstanding. Really made our trip and anniversary amazing. Thank you both so very much.
What a perfect week! From the moment we arrived we knew we were in the right place! The Aloha flowed from everyone we encountered. Our room was perfect and this resort has something for everyone. If you want a quiet place to read, pool to float in or go down the waterslide or float down the lazy river, you got it! The restaurants were fantastic and our experience at Nobu was incredible! The crispy rice and whitefish and baked crab were our favorites and the signature cocktails…too good! We had so much within walking distance, shopping, restaurants and golf! We loved every moment and hated leaving but we will be back.
Go anywhere else. You’ve been warned
First off, I want to say: what an absolute horrendous stay at the Grand Wailea! Where do I even start?? Some of their front desk employees are so rude when trying to talk to them about what has gone wrong with our stay. We booked through Costco and the hotel would not honor the contract of $100/day cumulative food/drink credit. A couple higher ups did help us out with some accommodations AFTER THINGS WENT MISSING FROM OUR ROOM. We would rather have the memories and things we had purchased on this trip. The property looks wonderful at night but that’s just a mask, during the day it looks like a dirty outdated hotel. To top it off, the fun parts of the pool and ALL pool bars close at 5pm. We paid to come and drink in a pool and aren’t allowed to do that after 5 when the sun is still up for hours. So no one has the chance to go explore or do anything outside of the hotel during the day and come back, relax and enjoy themselves. The “unfun” part of the pool is open after 5 but with no where to get a drink and it feels like a ghost town because I assume people think it’s closed or because they are forced to drink elsewhere. Not only do people come here to do those exact things all day at their resort but what an absolute terrible business model. They could be making hand over fist but decide to close everything. Everyone is essentially forced to leave the property to go do anything else unless you stay eat at one of the hotels restaurants, which we decided not to give them anymore of our $. Oh and you will be divebombed by birds at breakfast. DO NOT STAY HERE!!! We visited many other properties on our stay exploring the island wishing we would have booked elsewhere.
Good food but very overpriced.
Rooms could have been nicer for the price. Everything is extremely overpriced at the entire resort.
3/5 Stars My partner and I stayed at Grand Wailea to celebrate our birthdays on June 18 and June 19, and unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. We informed the hotel in advance of our special occasion, but there was no acknowledgment or birthday amenity waiting in our room upon arrival. We were referred to the restaurants, and when a server learned it was our birthdays, the only recognition we received was a verbal congratulations. While we did not expect anything extravagant, many hotels and restaurants typically offer a small gesture such as a dessert, cake, or card for special occasions. We spent approximately $1,500 dining at the resort during our celebration, yet there was still no additional acknowledgment. For a luxury resort known for its hospitality, we expected a more personalized experience. Overall, the property is beautiful, but the lack of attention to our special occasion left us disappointed. Most likely they will write back only to apologize and nothing else.
Outdated and old, appliances not working, Disappointing. We thought it was great 15 years ago, not now
There is nothing “grand” about this resort, any more. We’ve stayed here multiple times and sadly it’s lost all its charm. We’re a family of six (four kids). We stayed in two connecting rooms. The good: the slides are fun (albeit VERY crowded) and Wailea Beach is a great location. The bad: the staff is rude (particularly at the pool/beach) they won’t give you towels for your family unless ever member of your family standing there; the pool area is beyond crowded; the rooms are filthy (bugs, cockroaches, hair from other guests/housekeeping left in the bathroom; The restaurant (Humuhumu) is also filthy with ants crawling all over the food; They will nickel and dime you for literally everything; no hospitality suite available to change in for late departure flights. Do yourself a favor and stay at the Ritz Carlton in Kapalua or if you want water slides, Aulani on Oahu.
Schöne Pools
Alte Zimmer, absolut lächerlich hohe Preise.
From the moment we checked in at the front desk to the moment that we left, we got nothing but five star service it all started with our interaction of the front desk, team and the front office manager, Marina De Leon. We came back to Hawaii after staying at the aluani in December and by far our experience at the Grand Vilala was 10 stars compared to the other resort customer service is a key priority and location, location location. We cannot thank everyone at the grand wilela for making our trip such a memorable trip and we can’t wait to go back!!! thank you from the bottom of our hearts Mahalo.
We have been going to the Grand Wailea for almost 30 years. The adult pool has now become a kiddy pool with diapers oozing poo. We told the lady at the towel desk and she just shrugged. We went to get a lawn chair for the beach and found out that they charge $50/day. Parking is no longer optional. You have to pay $75/day. Went two days without housekeeping, had to call and ask for cleaning. Lazy river and slides are often broken and do not slide anymore. They ripped our swimsuits. So sad that this once great resort is so expensive and so badly managed. We will choose something else going forward. Do not waste your money.
Felt like a Disney resort. No service & focus is on amenities. I was embarrassed in front of my family due to the lack of service. Nickel and dimed, over crowded, nothing included. No beach chairs. Came here bc of brand. Outdated, not maintained, rude/inattentive staff, Brand means nothing. Went to 2 separate common area bathrooms one day and no toilet paper in any stall & gross, especially by the pool.
Just got back from the honeymoon of our dreams. Wow - there is no other place like this resort. We even went around to the other nearby properties such as Four Seasons, Fairmont to compare and contrast - Grand Wailea beats all in every category. We had an amazing dinner at Nobu that was up to the level of my Nobu Malibu experience. Fantastic dinner at Humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa - the ambience is so special - whoever designed this restaurant did an amazing job! Lastly amazing spa experience at their new facility - the relaxation lounge was my favorite. All around incredible service from Daisy at Front Desk who gave us a beautiful Chapel room for our honeymoon, Mohi the Concierge who helped me pre-arrival and then remembered me when I sat in front of her at the Concierge desk (she set up a spectacular snorkeling experience with Ali'i Nui), Sharon at the Valet Desk always with a smile and so eager to please and assist, lastly our incredibly hospitable server London at the luau. Every team member was so genuinely friendly. We decided we'll be back to mark every 5 year anniversary of ours :) Thank you again!
We got back from a stay at GW in May 2026 with our 3 children (6, 4, 8 months) and one set of grandparents. Pros- the beach is gorgeous, the pool is a lot of fun, cabana rental felt extra special and was a great day. Cons- BEWARE when booking and paying higher price for ocean view room. we booked an ocean view room and our initial room we were given, you couldn’t see the ocean (4th floor of the back towers—see picture). I asked for a move given the higher price I paid for an ocean view and was given one on our second night but had to check out of our room and have luggage stored until we could check back in later in the day. We also were separated from our second room with this move. This then messed up our ability to get wrist bands etc at the pool every day (not just the first day). It didn’t feel accommodating. Because of all this, I feel service is not 5 star for the price. We were at hyatt regency the first half of our stay and service was so much better. These things aren’t required, of course, but we had made a comment that we were celebrating our tenth anniversary on our reservation. This wasn’t addressed at all. Breakfast is expensive, and not even good. The children’s price is actually crazy for how much kids eat. The north gardens (the one we were overlooking) were completely roped off. Also, minor things, but a lot of roof tiles are in disrepair, etc. Overall, for the outstanding prices on Wailea in general, I’m not sure I would pay cash to stay here again. On the flip side, our kids really did have a blast at the pool.
From the moment we pulled into the property, our family was excited and very impressed with the beauty of the property and service we experienced. Check-in was a breeze; our receptionist was very thorough explaining our benefits and amenities through Amex + Hilton status and provided us with options for room upgrades though we declined and stayed on the ground floor Lagoon Tower. The room was clean, and easily accessible from either the walking path or elevators. This area was fairly quiet; we could not hear noise from the pools nearby or even the luau when it was going on. Pools were incredible, especially the kids lagoon where we spent most of our time. Water temperature was perfect and we didn't have any problems securing a pool chair either. Food at Surf Haus was really good, and the servers were all friendly and attentive. We had breakfast at Humuhumu and we'd like to give a shout out to Loida, Marie Ann and Rachel for their wonderful service and smiles! Location of the hotel is seriously perfect; the beach was easily accessible and even a walk to the Shops next door was 5 minutes or up the street to Akamai Coffee was very easy and safe. Our family took advantage of every amenity and benefit offered to us, so we felt the value was accurate, despite the room being a little bit outdated for the price we paid. To commemorate our anniversary, we booked a photoshoot through Pacific Dream Photography on-site and the photos turned out beautiful!! Photographer Cacau did incredible with our kids; he actually got them to smile for the photos! And our gallery viewing with Jim was really fun, he listened to our feedback and offered a really good package when we couldn't decide on the number of photos we wanted. I recommend having a photoshoot with PD for the convenience and just overall great quality of service and photos. Overall, we had a wonderful time at Grand Wailea; I would absolutely come back and I've already recommended it to friends and family. I will think back on this vacation fondly; thank you to everybody at Grand Wailea, you are doing amazing!
The good - the grounds and pools are amazing and every staff member I interacted with was helpful and kind. The staff at the pool in particular made extra effort to learn my name and were great about checking in. The poolside drinks were great. Are they expensive? Yes. Is that unexpected or unusual for Hawaii? No. The food I had poolside was also good. The nightly turndown service was great, and while I had some bugs that were in my room (my fault, wanted to hear the ocean waves the first night and attracted critters), I didn’t have that issue any of the subsequent nights. The room itself was clean and my ocean view deluxe room had a fantastic view of the property. The concierge helped me to book a sunset cruise that helped meet my needs as I opted not to get a rental car this time and needed something with transport and also didn’t want to spend time going all the way to the harbor. Shout out to Kai Kanani for fitting the bill. The so-so - I do agree that so many of the big properties have a better welcome service with leis, juice, etc. The Marriott and four seasons are equally large properties and have a more welcoming arrival experience. With that said, the gentleman who checked me in was lovely and detail oriented. It is a very kid friendly resort. I found the adults only pool was a nice respite but I agree with reviews that you do have to get out early to get a chair with cover if you need protection from the sun. At one point there was a guy who brought his child into the adults only pool - I am assuming he either figured it out or told them they needed to get out, but per my point below, I think the pools could be staffed differently. There are pools with a lot of children, and if you’re looking for a fully zen environment with no kids, this isn’t it. I do think in general the pool side set up could be better. You have to find a spot to get towels and while I understand the property is massive, again, I think the Marriott and Four Seasons have a better pool side set up in this regard as they have dedicated pool chair towels and it’s much easier to get towels, etc. Overall, it was a great stat and the view from my room was amazing.
My family and I recently stayed at Grand Wailea, a Waldorf Astoria Resort, and unfortunately, it was THE most disappointing resort hotel experiences we have ever had.We paid approximately $10,050 for this stay, including $1,600 per night for each of two rooms over three nights, plus $75 per car per day for two cars. At that level of expense, we expected exceptional service, attentiveness, and basic hospitality. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. We stayed in the Napau section. We were totally ripped off! What made this stay especially upsetting was not one single incident, but the overall pattern of treatment throughout our visit. We consistently felt uncomfortable, unwelcome, and overlooked. Each morning when we entered the Napua lounge area, there was no warm greeting from the person seated at the desk. We were not acknowledged in a way that felt hospitable or consistent with the service standard one would expect from a Waldorf Astoria property. In fact, throughout our stay, we did not feel that staff made any meaningful effort to welcome us, assist us, or check in on us. The lounge experience was especially disappointing. There was often a line for coffee from the one machine available, yet staff did not offer to help guests or ask if anyone needed anything. From what we observed, staff primarily refilled food and cleaned up, but did not provide proactive, guest-centered service. No one asked whether we needed coffee, water, drinks, or any assistance. No one anticipated that any needs or even just an acknowledgement. At a resort of this caliber, I would expect greater awareness, caring, and hyper hospitality. During the evening cocktail and appetizer period on the last two evenings of our stay, the male bartender was extremely rude and created a negative atmosphere in the lounge. He was unpleasant, unfriendly, and appeared annoyed when interacting with guests. Rather than making the lounge feel welcoming, his demeanor made us uncomfortable and reluctant to approach the bar. He clearly did not want to be there. We stayed over the Memorial Day weekend. The pool experience was also disappointing. When I asked for water, we were simply told to use the bottle provided and refill it ourselves. No one offered to bring water to us or provide assistance. At a luxury resort, especially in a pool setting, basic hospitality should include attentiveness and care. We were in the adults only pool and the service staff didn't want to get us water. The valet experience was also frustrating. When I attempted to retrieve our car, my ticket stub was returned to me, but instead of helping us get the car we wanted to use, staff brought my brother’s car. My brother lives in Maui, and his car had surfboards and personal belongings inside. It was not the car we wanted to drive around. When I tried to explain the issue, I felt ignored rather than assisted. This experience felt especially painful. I do not raise concerns about race or bias lightly, but we left feeling dismissed, unwelcome, and treated as though we did not belong. Whether intentional or not, the lack of warmth, lack of attentiveness, and dismissive interactions made us feel that we were not treated with the same respect, care, and courtesy that other guests would reasonably expect. I understand that Grand Wailea may have a diverse staff. However, that does not change how we experienced the service we received as guests. Our concern is about the lack of hospitality, the lack of awareness, and the way we were made to feel throughout our stay. We have stayed at many Hilton properties around the world, and this was by far the poorest customer service experience we have had. Grand Wailea is a beautiful property, but beauty alone does not make a luxury resort. True hospitality is about how guests are welcomed, cared for, and treated with dignity. I hope Grand Wailea takes this feedback seriously and reviews its service standards, especially around guest attentiveness, disability awareness, cultural sensitivity, and proactive hospitality. We were truly disappointed and, based on this experience, would not return.
Upon arrival we checked in with Cathy. She was not friendly, did not explain any amenities of the property, not even WiFi. She commented about our use of points for our stay. Having to research the entire property on our own was not only cumbersome, but unnecessary. Her failure to advise of the kids arcade/billiard area prevented our kids for 2 nights from enjoying other teens. We are Hilton Diamond members and yes, we used points which we earned through massive spending. This was not a Waldorf experience and thus they should be aware.
Beautiful hotel with great beach access. Loved the morning beach yoga. Excellent location with walking distance to shopping and restaurants.
We reserved an ocean view room, but they originally put us in a room with a "shared balcony" It would have been odd to share a balcony/patio with strangers, but upon telling the front desk, they put us in a different room immediately. Also, there was a large group who rented a cabana by the pool on our first day. They were intoxicated and very loudly using offensive language. Not the type of thing someone wants to see/hear at this level and price of resort, and very unfortunate for the families with small kids. I didn't want to be "that person" and go find/tell someone, but would have been nice if there was some sort of management visibility to the pool area.
Gill checked us in and gave us an incredible room. He was incredibly accommodating, the hotel was beautiful and perfect location, great restaurants & staff. 5 star all the way!
We booked two connecting rooms for my family. It was a horrible and awful experience from the beginning. I am from NY and my family lives in Maui. I requested 2 rooms in the exclusive Napua Lounge. From the onset everyone was awful and rude to us. We stayed at rooms 9041 and 9040 and paid for each room $1600 from May 21 to 24. It was awful the whole time because they treated us with absolutely no amenities whatsoever. I would like for someone to get in touch with me as soon as possible. This was the worst experience.
Great staff amazing scenery and service
Worst resort I have ever stayed at. I left 2 days early, it was that bad. So many nice resorts to stay at on the island with amazing customer service, I’d advise you to look at different reviews and book elsewhere
The spa was great. The location was convenient for day tours and off property activities.
The customer service was bad particularly the bell staff and front desk. The bugs were bad which could be improved with better weather stripping under the door. You could see light coming through the bottom of the door so bugs had open access to come in. The bathroom was not cleaned well. The shower glass was dirty and there was hair on the floor. Two pillowcases had something black on them. There was underwear in the dresser from a previous occupant.
This was our 3rd stay at this property, but hadn’t been since 2023. I’m sorry to say we were very disappointed this time around. Pros: the property is beautiful and we loved watching the koi ponds from our balcony. The staff in the Napua Towers/lounge was impeccable. Big thanks to Armi, Evelyn, Ronni, Zenith, Tommy and Maile, along with Napua concierges Lei and Yvette. Nobu is a great addition and we enjoyed 2 fabulous meals there. Housekeeping was super flexible. Cons: very limited room service menu as well as limited hours (nothing after 9.) Poor quality food from Loulu’s (fried chicken tasted like it was fried in the same oil as fish - twice.) Wrongly prepared takeout orders from Botero (twice.) Chaotic valet service, bordering on rude occasionally. Very uncomfortable balcony furniture - might have been the same cushions from our first trip in 2022. Constant and varying corporate groups, seemingly overserved alcohol at their evening events led to loud returns to their rooms, three times (at least) sharing elevators with very drunk people. Unresponsive management for the most part. Overall the GW felt more like a beautiful but overpriced Hilton Garden Inn. It is unlikely we will stay at this property again.
I just came back from 5 nights at the Grand Wailea and it was wonderful. The hotel grounds themselves are gorgeous - super lush landscaping and pretty paths to walk around. The resort is huge, so it takes a day to two to get your bearings. The pools are great and has something for everyone - adults only pool, family friendly pool, beach style kids area within the family pool, waterslides and adults only swim up bar (Grotto - Bartender Tim is the best!). They do require you to wear your pool access band, but it's not an issue as long as you remember. Plenty of towels and chairs at all times. We never had a problem getting chairs and/or an umbrella spot but we are generally early risers (we were down by 8/8:30am each day). The taco truck is a great spot for lunch, as is the pool side restaurant. The beach is gorgeous and the water is clear! We had a two Queen bed room in the Chapel wing and looked right over the chapel/lawn. It was gorgeous and I found the bed & pillows to be comfortable. I tend to be picky, so I was happy and slept comfortably. The bathroom is large and well equipped. Loved the shower. I will say, we did have somewhat of an issue with the small gnats/midges. After the recent storms/rain, they are around the resorts. They do not bite but we did find they congregated in our bathroom ceiling corners and by the glass slider leading to our balcony. Luckily I had read about this prior to our trip, so I packed a plug in bug attractor/catcher, which helped greatly. I also think the House Keeper must have used some disinfectant/bug deterrent on our first day of cleaning and after that they were much less. The dining & bar options were great in our opinion. We dined at Nobu, Humu Humu (Francisco, the best waiter!) and Botero (lovely bartender Martina!) and had great experiences at all! We also loved Olivine for lunch - their pizza is delicious and Stephanie at the bar is the best!!! The live fish tank bar at Humu Humu is a fun spot to grab a cocktail before dinner. I do wish there was another option for breakfast as the two options are a buffet at Humu Humu or the counter service at Loulu. We liked Loulu, but the line would get long as soon as it opened at 6am. The spa is gorgeous, I loved the Hydrotherapy area and has a nice Lomi Lomi massage. Overall, I definitely recommend the Grand Wailea and would return if we got the chance!
Absolutely shocked at how far the Grand Wailea has fallen. This hotel should not be considered a 5-star property anymore. The service from the front desk was terrible, management was dismissive, and housekeeping was beyond unacceptable. We arrived to our room and found hundreds of dead gnats everywhere — on the nightstands, throughout the room, and even in the bed. Housekeeping supposedly “cleaned” it, yet we continued finding hundreds more embedded in the carpet afterward. It was disgusting and completely unacceptable for any hotel, let alone one charging luxury prices. When they finally switched our room, no one offered to help with our luggage, no apology was given, and not even a small gesture was made to acknowledge the situation. The new room still didn’t feel properly clean. After coming here for 36 years, it’s heartbreaking to say this will absolutely be our last stay. The property may still have a beautiful location, kids love the slides, but the service, cleanliness, and overall experience no longer reflect the reputation or price point of a luxury resort.
There are lots of positives about this hotel. The rooms are a good size with sea view balconies. There is a good 24-hour grab and go store and a large selection of swimming pools with water slides that connect them which are great for the children. There’s also an over 21s poolside grotto bar and an amazing spa. However, this all comes at a cost and what a cost it is. The hotel restaurants are incredibly expensive. I’m not talking Nobu which is clearly going to be, these are the others on site. I understand that 5* hotels come at a premium but this is up there with some of the most expensive meals I’ve had at a hotel around the world. The bar situation is also interesting. We arrived at the hotel just after 11 and asked about a drink on arrival but were told by the one person on reception that the bars closed at 11. Checking out early also meant that there was one person on the desk. She was efficient and helpful but it still meant a wait. In summary, it’s a great hotel in a lovely location but have a look at the menu prices before you go.
As a property, the grounds are sweeping and a delight to explore. What's really special is the artwork. Apparently Takeshi Sekiguchi's original idea for the property was to be a museum exhibit that doubled as a hotel. I'm glad it for now still lives up to this vision, despite the hotel changing hands numerous times since 1991. The Grand Wailea houses a vast collection of art pieces, many showcased across the grounds: nine grand Boteros, Jan Fisher fountain sculptures of mermaids and hula dancers, Dale Chihuly glass, stained glass and mosaics by Yvonne Cheng, Zhou Ling paintings, even ceramic (and live!) koi. The parrot prints were a personal favorite. The lobby features art by local artists in residence during the week. As a hotel resort, it's a bit of a Disneyland, both good and bad: a large variety of attractions, with something for everyone, but don't expect personalized attention. As others say you can easily get nickel and dimed (or here, silver dollared!) if you aren't careful. Do your homework beforehand. There are some phenomenal restaurants offsite within easy walking distance; just Yelp around. Stories of welcome leis and lobby guava juice are a thing of the past. But--unless Blackstone continually devises new ways to find a return on their investment--it is possible to selectively choose what to enjoy on the resort. Botero Lounge is the crown jewel centerpiece of the lobby. Drinks were on the weaker side but the atmosphere and live music really transport you and made for a perfect evening welcome to the resort. Humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa is a fun spot for a breakfast buffet (whoever thought of a floating island omelette station?) and service was fine, but overall a bit overpriced. I do wish check-in staff were more thorough with explaining all amenities and activities the resort has to offer. Fortunately we made bookings such as Kilolani Spa in advance. It's worth the hydrotherapy session (try the salt scrub and cold water bucket!). I'd have loved to try an outrigger tour or an outdoor painting class. But didn't learn of these until it was too late. Our main disappointment was the hotel's response to complaints related to a serious midge/gnat infestation problem during our mid-April stay due to the previous month's March'26 storms that affected the entire property as well as other nearby resorts. Since there was no way to keep them out of the room, as they were attracted to light and damp environments and would fly in through door cracks even with the smallest trace of light from inside coming from the bathroom or the TV, this meant having to go completely dark after sundown. The first couple nights were a very unpleasant and frustrating experience, with very limited support from hotel staff and management. We requested being moved to a higher floor and having our front door light turned off, but these changes ultimately did not mitigate the midge problem. Interactions with front desk staff made it clear that we were left to deal with it on our own. We eventually had to accept it was impossible to stay out and enjoy the property at night during our stay. Speaking with management some time after our stay, it does sound like the hotel in later weeks eventually turned it around and made better efforts to communicate to guests about the situation, reallocate more staffing to the problematic evening hours, apply insecticide, and reinstall door sweeps. At the time however a timely management response to the issue was still absent and housekeeping / engineering were still too unequipped and understaffed at night to effectively address the sheer volume of guest complaints. All in, a mixed experience. Now a Waldorf Astoria, this resort is truly a modern historic property to behold, and great fun. Beware the rare storm that turns it into the Midgedorf Bugsteria at night. But snags aside, there is still plenty to enjoy about this resort, not least the singular architecture and art that, among all its neighbors, earns its name as The Grand Wailea. [Note: this is modified version of a previous review.]
I loved Grand Wailea. The beach is long, beautiful, and clean. It’s mostly sandy-bottomed, so swimming in the ocean is very enjoyable. I also loved the outrigger canoe activity that leaves directly from the hotel beach; Jacob and Jake were our guides, and they were excellent. I highly recommend being a Hilton Honors Diamond member and taking full advantage of the Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card. I signed up for the Amex card 18 months ago, and it has been absolutely amazing. We ate at all of the restaurants during our stay. I especially appreciated that the hotel offers gluten-free options. While everything was definitely expensive, I value that they take allergens seriously. We enjoyed dinner at Humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa, and Fernando, who assisted our server, was incredibly respectful, kind, and exceeded expectations. The only things I didn’t quite like - though they were not deal breakers - were: - The breakfast buffet and Humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa were not quite as impressive as the options at Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea and Fairmont Kea Lani next door (both within walking distance). The selections felt more limited, the prices were higher, and the staff circling the gratuity section on the bill felt a bit too pushy. - For a luxury hotel, the toilet paper quality in the rooms was surprisingly poor - very thin and low quality. It would also be nice if the bathrooms had ventilation fans. - The resort fee is high at $55 per day unless you book with points. It includes bicycle rentals through valet, which was highly disappointing because they only had two bikes available. The valet staff also kept discouraging me from renting them, saying there was nothing nearby to see and they weren’t sure whether biking on the road was a good idea. In reality, there was a long bike route about 10 minutes away from the hotel. To be fair, they were right that getting there required a decent fitness level and some road biking first. - Valet parking only at $75 per day is definitely expensive. Still, I think having a car is worth it because otherwise you’re limited to eating at the hotel restaurants, which are equally pricey. My only slight complaint is that although all the valet staff were excellent, fast, and hardworking - often literally running to retrieve cars - the wait could still be about 10-15 minutes during busy times such as weekends and check-in/check-out hours. They mentioned that guests could call ahead, but when we tried a couple of times, no one answered the phone. Overall, it was still a wonderful stay, and I highly recommend booking an Ocean View room to maximize the experience and enjoyment.
1 Star – Save Your Money and Sanity, Go Next Door to the Four Seasons Where do I even begin with the Grand Wailea? This place has absolutely no business carrying the Waldorf Astoria name, and after staying here, I can confidently say it falls woefully short of every standard that brand is supposed to represent. Rude, Dismissive Staff (Especially by the Pools) The pool staff were some of the rudest hospitality workers I've ever encountered. Curt, condescending, and openly impatient with guests who dared to ask basic questions. There is no warmth, no service mindset, no sense that you—the paying guest—matter. For a resort charging premium pricing, the attitude from staff is genuinely shocking. Overcrowding Like You Wouldn't Believe The pool areas are wildly overcrowded. It feels less like a luxury resort and more like a packed public water park. Good luck finding a chair, walking a path without bumping into someone, or actually enjoying the pools you're paying a fortune to use. Towel Rationing at a "Luxury" Resort They actually limit towels. Let that sink in—you're paying Waldorf Astoria prices and being rationed pool towels like it's a budget motel. Absurd. Chairs Flipped So Fast You Can't Even Eat Breakfast If you leave your chair to grab breakfast, use the restroom, or do literally any activity the resort itself offers, expect to come back to find your spot has been given away. The turnover policy is so aggressive that enjoying the rest of the resort becomes impossible. You're essentially chained to a lounger if you want to keep one. Lost and Stolen Items Because Staff Removed Belongings This is the worst part. Leave your chair for more than an hour and staff will physically remove your items. We lost personal belongings because of this policy. Not misplaced—removed by staff and never recovered. At a Waldorf. Unbelievable. Hundreds of Dollars Just for a Beach Chair You read that right. They charge HUNDREDS of dollars for a beach chair. Which begs the obvious question: what exactly is the daily resort fee covering if not the most basic amenity at a beach resort? It's nickel-and-diming taken to a level I've never seen at any property at this price point. Cabanas Auctioned Off on a Secondary Market This might be the most outrageous part of the entire experience. Cabanas are essentially auctioned off on a secondary market. Some other guest bought the cabana a year earlier, and now existing guests of the resort have to pay THOUSANDS of dollars to that person just to use a cabana by the pool of the hotel they're already staying at. It's predatory, dystopian, and completely antithetical to the idea of luxury hospitality. Bottom Line This hotel is wildly overpriced and genuinely awful. It does not meet—nor even approach—the standards expected of a Waldorf Astoria property. The Waldorf name on this building is a disservice to the brand and a trap for unsuspecting guests who think they're booking a luxury experience. Never again. Walk next door to the Four Seasons. It is night and day across the board—service, atmosphere, value, every single category. Don't make the mistake we did.
Our latest trip to the Grand Wailea will probably be our last. It had been about 6 years since our previous visit...and WOW have things changed. The prices are astronomical - I thought the Vegas strip was overpriced, but this is worse. Examples: $75/night for valet parking (there is NO self parking, and the wait times for your car are long at peak times of the day). $102/night "room tax" and $34/night "excise tax" on top of the room charge each day. Our room was comfortable, as it should be for $900/night (including taxes). We received two complimentary water bottles, but there is only 1 filtered water refill station (on the ground floor...other properties have them on each floor). We dined at the "HumuHumu..." restaurant on property -- the waitress was wonderful, but the food was average compared to what they charged (over $100 for a steak with no extras). The pool and surrounding grounds are the best feature of the property. But for the price, we'll elect to pay a bit more for a significantly more upscale experience at the Four Seasons next door. In summary, the Grand Wailea is nice...but for what they charge, we expected better than nice.
It was beautiful.
Didn’t really get to enjoy amenities (pools, outdoor luau) or any excursions due to Kona low weather system. Our Nobu reservation was cancelled due to flooding. Our flight into Maui was diverted to Honolulu and our hotel reservation was cancelled by the hotel when we didn’t arrive on time. Lines to check in were very long. Staff appeared tired and guests even more so.
First time in Maui! We booked a Costco package and stayed in Ka'anapali the first half of our trip and then Grand Wailea. The difference between the 2 were very noticeable. Our hotel in Ka'anapali didn't have a fancy pool but every single person we encountered acknowledged us and said Aloha. The vibe was much more focused on Hawaiian tradition and respecting the culture. Grand Wailea didn't do any of that. Sure, its a beautiful property but as many have stated, it needs some TLC. The pool lounge chair situation is a nightmare. Walking to breakfast, you can see every single chair has been claimed. Having to schlep your inner tubes is annoying. Thats great that they will fill them, but you can't provide tubes for a lazy river? Which, by the way, isn't really a lazy river in the literal sense. $7 for a can of Diet Coke. My goodness. We did have a food/beverage voucher daily through our Costco plan but the cost of everything else is insane. I get its Hawaii but this is just robbery. We did have a beautiful view, Chapel Wing, that overlooked the ocean. We had 4 confirmed guests, why did we keep receiving only 2 washcloths? We had to call down daily for more washcloths so we could all properly clean ourselves. We actually had to hide extra un-used washcloths if we had them because housekeeping would keep taking them just to leave 2 behind. I get its an out-door resort and bugs happen but it wasn't pleasant running into a cockroach in the hallway going to our room (immediately near the Chapel elevators, 2nd floor). The resort is beautiful and when you firs arrive it feels so luxurious. You stay for a few more days and you start to notice what everyone else is talking about in their reviews. Repairs needing to be made in various areas, crumbling tiles, shower heads that need to be soaked in vinegar to remove buildup, etc.
One of the things about our stay that was unfortunate and really rubbed me the wrong way, was the way the pool chairs worked at the resort. It is a very busy resort. I understand that part. But when people pay thousands of dollars to stay there, there should be a pool chair. The pool areas are all SO crowded. You are sitting 1/4 inch away from your neighbor. I personally like a little space between my party and the next. You have to be down there at 7am to grab a chair. Then, if you don't stay there there is a warning (chair top is brought down) and then they take your belongings to the main pool desk. On the first day we were there, we found beach chairs, all other chairs were taken. Well, guess what, they were pay for your chair chairs. $75 a pop. For a regular old lounge chair with an umbrella. Just off-putting to me, that such a nice resort doesn't have better service in that regard.
An older property, but still in decent shape. The property is huge and a bit confusing. By the time you figure it all out, it’s time to check out. Food and beverage is very expensive(at restaurants and the 25-7 cafe) but there is an Island Market within walking distance that is worth the trip. Fresh foods, pizza, burgers and more. Trust me, you’ll save money. Pools are nice and towels are plentiful. We found seating easily but people that came around lunchtime had a harder time. Chairs are uncomfortably close- be prepared to meet your neighbors! Rental car on property is convenient for sightseeing!
Currently staying with my wife at the resort, paying $900 per night. Overcrowded and understaffed is an understatement. The resort offers day passes to non-guests from other resorts, and as such there a no chairs to sit anywhere if you’re not to the pool before 10am. I was told I could only have 2 towels for my wife and I because they were running out, and I had to wait in line for 15 mins just to get these towels. There is only 1 bartender staffed in the cave bar with more 20-30 people waiting to be served at a given time. The one adult pool has no bar walk up window and wait staff only come by close to once an hour. A pB&j for kids is $18 just to give you pricing context - it’s absurd, when the service doesn’t match prices. Rooms are cleaned daily, but no turn down in the evening. For the price of the stay, I can’t repeat enough how shocked I am at the lack of service here. Very disappointing. This resort is clearly about profit over reputation. I would not recommend a stay here. If you want to check out the pool just do the day pass, but I wouldn’t stay here du
Ok where do I even begin on how terrible the service is at this place? We are well traveled and even spent 11 nights at Atlantis last year...for the slides of course with our kids. We have only been here for 1 day out of 6, and the rudeness is intolerable. We just came from Kaanapali for a weeks stay and people were so welcoming/helpful. The place is pretty ran down. For the price, we are switching next door to Four Seasons. Not worth your money nor tjme. Actually, awful all around. Such a disappointment. We had high hopes.
Dont waste your time, money, or energy at this resort. The place is ran down. The staff is just completely unprofessional and untrained about hospitality. Will never return and we have been to Maui more than 7x in the past 5 yrs. We even stayed here for a month and have never encountered this level of incompetence and rudeness.
The Waldorf Astoria in Maui was incredible. The staff and the level of service was first class all the way. Going to Hawaii was a bucket list item for me. Simply put, this was one of the best trips we have ever taken. Malia was our concierge and she made our stay absolutely perfect. My girlfriend and I got engaged during our stay, and Malia helped with every single detail - from location recommendations to propose, to arranging a photographer to capture the moment, to getting us the best table for dinner with a personalized dessert , and even balloons in our room that were heart shaped or spelled out LOVE. Malia is so thoughtful - she thought of everything! As a result, the trip was absolutely unforgettable! The Waldorf has my highest recommendation.
I booked this resort for my wife's 40th birthday and I couldnt have scripted the location, the pools, spa, the beach, the food and the surreal sunset in the beach. Surprisingly this was a Costco package and it over exceeded my expectations with quality and the cost of the trip (airfare, car rental, resort (Napua Experience). This was a vacation to remember for life! We are still elated and talking about the amazing time we had together. Highly recommend getting the Napua Experience (breakfast, snacks included; your own concierge (Malia was PHENOMENAL), 2 passes to the spa pools/sauna). Someone please give Malia a retention bonus! Her customer service/attention/value was better than any AI generated concierge.
We traveled over spring break with our family of 5, knowing it would be busy but we weren't prepared for the masses and lack of amenities at the resort. To get any type of chair by the pools, we had to be in line by 6:45am. There was only one restaurant that you could sit down and have breakfast and it was a buffet. The line was often 20-30 minutes for this. For the masses they book into the resort, there really should be more options. It often felt like being at Disneyland with the amount of people and constant waiting. To use a beach chair and umbrella the fee was $75 for a Half day. Seems crazy when you are spending close to $1,000 per night to tack on these extra fees. The cabanas were also old and the one we rented smelled moldy. I am kicking myself now that I didn't do more research and find different options. The rooms weren't updated, common areas weren't well maintained and there was trash throughout the resort. The pool water was murky and the resort felt dirty. My husband and I got married at the resort 21 years ago and have come back frequently. It is so sad to see the decline of a once spectacular property. Many of the staff were nice and tried their best but the resort is not set up to accommodate the amount of people that use it. Additionally, small touches go a long way. We did not receive welcome leis and despite being there for our anniversary and my husband's 50th, there were zero extras. I also wouldn't spend the extra $ for the Napua Tower. The food was mediocre and the way they police guests is uncomfortable. There was no ease to this vacation and I am so disappointed to say we won't be staying at the place we got married at again. For the price, I would recommend checking out Kea Lani on Maui or Four Seasons or Rosewood on Kona. The vibe is completely different.

We've been coming to the Grand since it opened and it was the best of the best. We brought our grand children here so they could experience what their parents experienced 30+ years ago. Disappointment is the best way to describe our experience this year. The resort upkeep has declined noticeably and the money grab mentality is obvious. I'm surprised they haven't started to charge for use of the public restrooms! It's still grand in size but that's where it ends. Most of the staff works very hard to make you feel at home, but it's shameful what has happened to one of our favorite resorts. We suggest looking at other options, even if it costs more.
We had a nice relaxing visit to the Grand Wailea in Maui. It is a nice location on the beach and walking distance to shops and restaurants. The property and pools were nice and well maintained. The restaurants on property are expensive, but that is Hawaii. They did have a nice shop on property to get coffee and less expensive meals. The staff there were very friendly and helpful.
My wife and I are staying here on our anniversary, and our room key decided to stop working. The concierge made us wait in an hour long line along with the check-in queue in order to get our key fixed. She is diamond status. Nobody responds to their app messaging system either. This hotel is over $1000 a night. Absolutely unacceptable. Will not be back.
Very disappointing ---How can this once great property be so run down now? From Humu the restaurant, walking up the winding walkway to the main building have never seen the beautiful tropical plants in such bad condition. This speaks volumes for the overall property. So many half dead trees, brown tipped and no maintenance plantings, weeds all over, underwatered. So sad from the lush days this winding walkway was so beautiful. Then go up the stairs so dirty to Loulu etc stains, dirt. All the beautiful brass handrails smudged up, dirty and used to be polished. Then the Lobby around Botero Bar so bad. Flooring dirty, Botero artwork settings with broken limestone, black rocks and no plantings like there used to be. But GW still proposing to expand and add rooms?
This is our first time visiting Hawaii as a family! We kicked things off at the Four Seasons on Lanai and then hopped on a ferry to the Grand Wailea. The price was similar, but so far, the Grand Wailea hasn’t quite hit the mark for relaxation, and some of the staff have been a bit rude. As others have mentioned, getting a chair to put your stuff on can be tricky. Luckily, we found a spot by the serenity pool, which we later learned is for adults only. We figured, no worries, the kids (who are older but still under 18) wouldn’t be swimming in the pool. Well, we spent a good chunk of money on food and drinks and decided to eat by our chair. Two different staff members decided to interrupt our expensive lunch and tell our kids they couldn’t even eat there for five minutes. We saw the same staff person arguing with others who were sitting there. I get that they don’t want kids in the adult pool, but a little understanding would go a long way. Also, when we tried to get wristbands for the whole family, I kept getting told that my kids weren’t on the reservation and couldn’t get wristbands. The property is beautiful, and we were really looking forward to a relaxing family vacation.
This is my second stay at the Grand Wailea. Last year we had a great stay. It’s kind of surprising how much the property has gone downhill since then. They seem to be understaffed and the rooms not as nice. As a Diamond member we were placed the farthest possible point from the pool with a loud utility room or something outside…not what I’d expect at a luxury hotel. Valet Parking only -$75 a night. I get valet only at a luxury property on Maui, but it’s significantly more than other properties nearby. The pool - the pools are great, especially if you have kids. However, the check in process and obtaining a pool chair can be challenging if you don’t get there early. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a nice property overall, but I likely wouldn’t come back for a 3rd stay - there’s too many better options nearby that will likely get my money in the future. I want to love it and for it to be a place we come back year after year, but unfortunately that’s not the case. As a side note - I’ve also stayed at the Marriott Beach resort a few times, always upgraded, can self park if you wish, much cleaner and nicer property. Pool chairs are plenty, and free beach chairs if you’re there early enough. If considering Wailea, I’d weigh all my options before choosing the Grand Wailea.
This hotel is a mixed bag and has gotten worse in the last several years. I am staying there now and have one more night before I leave. The grounds are beautiful, enormous, and welcoming. The pools, with the water slides and lots of different aquatic activities, are quite wonderful, and kids love them. However, the hotel needs lots of improvement. It is nearly impossible for anybody who has mobility issues. In order to get from most of the hotel rooms to the pool or beach, guests must walk a long way down winding paths and stairs. That means walking a long way back up every time you want to get to your room from the pool or beach. I am a senior citizen and have pain in my knees, and it was a struggle for me to walk down to the pools and back up every day. The adult pool and adult hot tub are ridiculous because the pool is ice cold. Literally I saw dozens of people start to get in and turn around to get out when they felt the temperature. The hot tub is so hot in literally feels like it’s scalding your skin. Temperatures are way off. Location is excellent, but everything here is about making money off of guests. Exorbitant fees for the rooms, usually running $1,000 or more per night, and then a resort fee on top of that. The parking, especially valet parking, and food at the restaurants and cafés is ridiculous. $60 for the breakfast buffet, and even at the snack shack near the pools, sandwiches are 2 to 3 times what they would cost outside of the hotel grounds. Coffee in the morning cost me $8 at the takeout restaurant, and then they charged me $1 for a refill! An employee of the snack shack told us when we ordered our lunch that we were not allowed to sit at the snack shack tables directly in front of us because that was the only for people who ordered from the wait staff. In other words, wanting to have people pay tips to waiters for takeout food they can get themselves. Everything is about making more money In order to find a lounge chair near the pools, guests must claim them by about 9 AM with their towels and belongings, or there will be none available for the rest of the day. We spent an hour one day looking for a place to sit and leave our towels while we swam, and then finally gave up and sat near the beach because we couldn’t find a chair near the pool. Totally out of control. Lounge chairs are jammed together one right after another, creating an uncomfortable situation. The hotel allows residents of the island to buy season passes for the pool, as well, which only means bigger crowds. It’s all about the money.
Excellent property with no better views in Maui. We were here w our two adult sons and their spouses (3 total rooms). Great experience. Staff was super helpful and professional. Comfortable rooms with wonderful views. Fun shops on premises. Beautiful grounds but easy to get turned around in. Frankly, I’d recommend eating off property (yes we ate at Nobu, but that is a separate review). Location was close to shopping center and restaurants. Love to stay here again.
Beautiful room and great resort facilities.
Due to the storms our flight was delayed we were late getting to the resort, not arriving until around 9:30 pm. Room service had stopped at 9:00 and whilst the cafe was open and had pre-made sandwiches there was no hot food. This was disappointing in a resort of this standard and size.
My husband and I are Hilton loyalists and had a free night certificate that we wanted to use while visiting Maui. We chose the Grand Wailea resort as we had stayed next-door at another resort previously and thought it looked very nice. I had also heard it was recently renovated. We were not disappointed. We did our research obviously prior to our trip and knew this was not going to be a small intimate hotel. There were a lot of families with small children, but the hotel was big enough that you didn’t feel like you were in close proximity all the time and had plenty of space to spread out and do fun things as adults. There is an adult swimming pool as well as a large children’s pool separated from the adult pool that had great, lazy rivers, slides, etc. unfortunately we were at the hotel during the Kona low storm that impacted Maui and some of the pools for the children were closed. This was an unfortunate circumstance because children were at the adult pool but based on the situation, I understood although I don’t think others did. Because we are diamond loyalists we were upgraded to a wonderful room overlooking the chapel and the sea and there’s an entire section of the hotel that has shops and a market that’s open 24 hours, which was great particularly during the weather situation. In addition, we ate at several restaurants at the hotel, including Olivine, which had exceptionally high-quality food. We moved on to try another hotel that we had wanted to try after our free night and while it was a very nice resort, we just felt that the Grand Wailea felt more like Hawaii as far as the property went, and when our flight was canceled due to the storm and we had two additional nights to stay, we used our Hilton points and booked two additional nights at this hotel. Hilton just never lets us down. We were upgraded to a beautiful ocean view room and the weather actually improved so we were able to sit on our amazing balcony and watch whales right off of the coast. I would recommend the hotel definitely for families and to couples looking for a varied experience and an amazing spa which we also enjoyed. Thanks as always to the grand Wailea resort and team for a fun few days in Maui.
Pool facilities were fantastic. All the staff was very helpful and welcoming. The facility was very clean. The pool was a great spot for the kids. There was lots to do for the smaller kids. Lots of staff supervision around the pool to keep everyone safe.
There was no cable television on the TV in the in the unit we had. We had to load applications to be able to watch any television. It would not have made much difference other than we had quite a few days of rain. The controls for the TV were challenging and a booklet or some kind of manual how to use the system

Tutto Sembra un ospedale
Luau and restaurants are ridiculously sub par With the exception of Nobu The Luau was boring , they didn’t engage the guests and the food was comparable to cafeteria hospital food. At $300 a person we felt scammed and questioned how the resort could live with themselves. All restaurants are double the price for below average food except Nobu Nobu was excellent but very expensive. Breakfast options were painful. Humma Humma buffet cafeteria food at $65 a person, Loulo’s grab and go basically take out sub per fast food, room service is take out from Loulu’s plus the service charge. Do yourself a favor and walk 5 minutes to Wailea shopping mall at half the price and way better food quality!
It is exactly what you would hope for of a luxury resort. The personal experience is better than you can imagine. The cheerful and genuine greetings you would get every day in the hallways restaurant pool area in private lounge area are above par. It’s felt very real and not scripted. You were NOT an interruption to their daily duties but a pleasant interaction. It felt as though you were the only guest they had to care for. While I did not ask for much it felt as though NO was not in their vocabulary. The room was so nice I am now searching for that level of comfort for my own home (I thought I had it….but no). I stayed in the Napua Garden tower on the secured floor 9. It was well worth it.
Everything appears nice on the surface, amenities, rooms, common spaces, pools. Lots and lots of out of control kids running rampant. We paid extra for the Napua room with food service at breakfast, lunch and appetizers/drinks for happy hour. VERY meager offerings. Lunch bites are one charcuterie tray for all rooms, bags of chips/granola bar. The biggest issue is the pool chairs. There are simply not enough chairs especially at the adult pool even though they have packed and zip tied them together like sardines. And, you can’t leave your chair for more than an hour or they remove your belongings so someone else can sit down. Many instances of ppl coming back to their chairs after going for a walk and arguments about whose chair it was. The staff are not helpful at all and shrug and walk away. Also very protective about towels - very weird vibes. One other issue - lots of CLUELESS people who blare their conversations on speaker or face time at their pool chair, in the pool, in the hot tub. We will not come back due to these issues.
Beautiful location and that’s where the curtain ends. Booked a king ocean view and we were given a double queen with a partial view. We were told they never guarantee the room you want, only if it’s available. They did end up moving us two days later. The Napua upgrade for the club amenities is definitely not worth it. Minimal food and large families with kids running all over the place. The staff doesn’t clean for days so there are dirty dishes everywhere. The pool takes the poor review even further down to TERRIBLE. When paying for a 5 star resort you shouldn’t have to fight for beach chairs. The chairs that are zip tied together so you can move them are monitored by the hour and staff removes your belongings. I witnessed multiple incidents where guest are angry with each other over whose chairs are theirs. The staff is unhelpful because management has come up with this ridiculous system making the staff the bad guys. We also paid $150 to have chairs on the beach and were told the same system was in place there too! It’s a beautiful resort, but obviously the people in charge don’t care that the guest have a wonderful experience. Stay at the Four Seasons. It’s in the same location and I guarantee the service is much better.
What a great location, amazing hotel, great amenities, exceptional Spa experience and great people. Everyone was so very helpful and the Spa is a must visit while there with the salt water pool, steam room, dry sauna, cold plunge, etc. Amazing ocean views and loved the long beach boardwalk that is paved and you can walk/run for miles.
As a family from the UK we picked this property for its amazing pool. We chose to stay at the adjacent villas. However by booking direct with Hilton this gave us full access to the resort as a regular hotel guest would. The privately owned villa was immaculate and very impressive as was the associated service from the villa staff (internal ‘Uber’ style drivers and villa reception) Now for the actual resort. It is NOT a cheap property. When paying these prices you expect a level of service to go with this price tag. However the resort has become complacent. Some slides were non operational. They had a water ‘lift’ - again this didn’t work. When we enquired the staff stated oh it’s been like that for ages. Additionally the breakfast at Hulu Is good but nowhere near a Waldorf 5 star standard. Think more beach resort. Next time. I would rent a villa privately from the owners direct and make do with the smaller included villa pool and not pay the significant premium for resort access. In conclusion. If the Waldorf are going to charge premium prices the resort needs to remain premium to satisfy guest expectation. It needs work in order to do so.
I have two days left at this hotel. I have never been so ready to leave a hotel as I am right now. I’ll start with the pros. It has a great view. Some of of the servers go above and beyond, but I have never been treated so poorly after spending so much money to be here. The food is not great and extremely expensive. It cost my husband and I about $200 a day just to sit by the pool and have a few drinks and lunch. We had to start leaving the resort to eat a cheaper places. I didn’t realize there was a resort fee included in this property. I’m not really sure why they have to charge us 50 more dollars on top of the 1400/day I already paid to stay here but whatever… I am a Hilton gold member, I never got offered my free upgrade or any of the perks that are supposed to come with Hilton gold. There’s no communication between members of staff yesterday at the pool. We asked a waitress if we could leave our stuff on our chairs and go eat lunch. We wouldn’t eat lunch for half an hour and came back and our stuff was gone. The pool attendant said we were gone for more than an hour and so he took the stuff. He said he folded the chairs down an hour ago. I folded the chairs down myself 20 minutes before that but hey, what are you gonna do today I left my handbag in an Uber and the nice man came back to bring my bag back to me and the hotel told him they couldn’t get a hold of me and so he left with my handbag with my passports and my credit cards and everything in it because they couldn’t take five minutes to find me or bring me the bag both my husbands and my phone numbers are listed they need they didn’t call either of us. So now I’m praying the Uber driver brings back my bag so I can get the hell out of here. I stayed at the Fairmont hotel two years ago, which is two or three hotels down from the Waldorf for Astoria and I highly recommend that hotel. It’s the only hotel I’ve ever wanted to return to, but I decided to try a new place. Big mistake! This place is a monstrosity. It’s very confusing. It is not handicap accessible or friendly. You have to go to several banks of elevators to even get to your room. If you’re looking for nighttime entertainment, this is not the place to stay. There isn’t any all the bars closed by 10 o’clock there isn’t a lot of other restaurants or bars in the area to go to within walking distance as we couldn’t rent a car because it was $5000 for five days. This will probably be my last time in Maui, it was my 15th wedding anniversary and I have been looking forward to this trip for almost a year. I am so angry at myself for choosing this hotel and I just hope if anyone else reads this review that they do a little more research that I did on this place. Every other hotel I have stayed at on these islands. You get a warm welcome, you get a leia, maybe a refreshing drink, not here. You wait in line for 20 minutes to an hour to check in. I have stayed at many resorts all over the world. This is just one giant all-inclusive resort where nothing is included. And the drinks are $22. I highly recommend the Fairmont.
We just returned from 6 nights at the Grand Wailea (first time visit). I know there are many who have traveled here for years and have been disappointed by some of the recent changes, but I wanted to share my perspective coming in fresh. To sum up, the resort is AMAZING! I couldn’t believe how beautiful everything is, the design and the landscaping everywhere is truly remarkable. Then the backdrop of the beach, ocean and Maui mountains surrounding the area takes this to a new level. It is my new #1 favorite resort I’ve ever stayed. I’ve traveled to many nice resorts throughout Florida and the Caribbean, most recently Zemi Beach House in Anguilla, and for me Grand Wailea is tops. Outside of the views, the staff was extremely friendly. This is not a place where you’ll experience over the top service, but everyone I encountered was very helpful, and even just passing by the housekeeping staff you’ll always receive a smile and a greeting. We requested and received a 3rd floor room in the Chapel Wing of the resort. I highly recommend this area if traveling without kids, it’s very quiet. This room is considered “garden-view” but we still had an awesome view of the ocean. Pools were as advertised, so much fun! As a middle aged man who likes to pretend I’m way younger than I am, it was a perfect way to spend the day going up and down all the slides, pools and lazy rivers! As for the popular negatives noted by other travelers, perhaps we were less disappointed as I set my expectations accordingly. Pool chairs were relatively easy to come by, and the one time they were full we just set our stuff down on the grass and went into the pool. We’re not as fond as some as sitting on the beach, and you could see the ocean well from the pool areas so I didn’t mind the lack of fancy free beach chairs. Given the early February timing, we probably lucked out on having fewer kids around, but the resort was nearly sold out and never felt overly crowded. Oh and yes, if you want to stare at some trim that could use a fresh coat of paint and some wooden railings that could be polished, go for it. My advice would be to zoom out a bit and realize you’re in an oceanfront paradise and some weathering adds character. Food was very good, but overpriced like every other major resort. We were able to eat lunch each day with our $50 diamond credit, and had some casual breakfasts & dinners at Botero and Loulu to use up our $200 Amex aspire credits. We dined offsite at Shops at Wailea and Gather on Maui, and also spent an evening in Kīhei at the South Maui Gardens area. I wish it was closer (traveling from the Midwest), but we definitely plan on returning!

Cleanliness
6.5/10Multiple reports of filthy rooms (bugs, cockroaches, hair left in bathrooms) and ants in a restaurant indicate below‑average cleanliness.
Service
9.5/10Mixed but often very strong: one rave 10‑star account praising front desk and management contrasted with reports of rude pool/beach staff and missed birthday acknowledgements; overall leans positive based on standout front‑office experiences.
Location
10/10Repeatedly praised — Wailea Beach location is a clear strength.
Room Quality
7/10Rooms described as dated with appliances not working; once excellent but in need of upgrades, so below top tier but still functional.
Amenities
10/10Pools, slides and beach access are major positives (slides are fun and pools are beautiful), though they can be very crowded and occasionally have equipment issues.
Value for Money
6/10Many comments about extreme pricing, nickel‑and‑diming (parking, chair fees), and declining value compared with past visits.
Food and Beverage
9/10Food is frequently noted as good, though pricey; isolated hygiene issues reported at one restaurant (ants).
Overall Experience
8.4/10Mixed overall: property and amenities impress many guests and some service interactions are excellent, but inconsistent cleanliness, dated rooms and poor value perceptions temper the experience.
