We spent two nights at the Algonquin while visiting from Ontario. Our suite was comfortable and included amenities like a microwave, fridge, charging ports, and a large TV. Dinner at Passamaquoddy on our first night aimed for a fine‑dining experience but didn’t quite meet expectations. On the second night, we ate at Braxton’s, where the meal was good, but the restaurant was noisy enough that we asked the maître d’ for a quieter table – which we got. The space felt overcrowded, and staffing seemed limited. We had been promised a couple of glasses of complimentary champagne as it was our anniversary, but it never materialized. Even so, the staff we met were friendly and helpful — thank you to Cameron for his assistance. One more issue. There were multiple weddings on-going when we arrived - it was a Saturday. No problem with that except that finding parking was a challenge and took an inordinate amount of time.
Hotel is beautiful but lacking all the little things one would expect at a pricier hotel. Bathrooms are tiny, cheap towels, air conditioning barely works. We couldn’t get our room cleaned the first day because they seemed to be understaffed. They knocked on our door at 6pm but we needed the room by then. The wifi is awful, we were able to upgrade for a fee on the second day but couldn’t access it afterwards. The restaurant was so not great for what they were charging so we only went once. All in all 3.5 star at 5 star prices. One upside, except for the inexperienced server in the restaurant the staff were pleasant and helpful.
Stayed for a week: VERY lovely, pretty property; our room (2 queens w/ kitchenette) was great - clean, quiet, comfy, (always had hot water, but while we all found beds to be very comfy, we found the pillows too 'high' and had stiff necks), quite pretty decor and a nice view; GREAT amenities (though outdoor pool could have been a bit warmer and cleaned a bit better, but really such a lovely spot); close walk to town and the lovely Kingsbrae Gardens; shuttle offered was great and much appreciated; housekeep service was excellent, with the housekeep staff very approachable; really enjoyed music played in communal areas; much of the staff were either very friendly (Liam! Gizella! Yahia!) or pleasant and competent enough; our only real disappointment was to do with food service, noted below. ALL IN ALL would definitely recommend this very beautiful resort property, esp for those looking for a great place to unwind in a lovely, walkable town, right by the ocean -- ALGONQUIN RESORT IS A VERY SPECIAL PLACE!
Felt let down by the restaurants: though clean and and attractive, the menus were quite redundant -- NOT a lot of cross over b/w the different menus. Desserts were kind of non-existent for those that don't prefer bitter notes (with even high tea being odd we thought) and the sad fruit cobbler pieced together from the wet oatmeal and fruit salad offered during the breakfast buffet - tho churros under the kids menu, which we snuck in with our order, were yummy!) Lighter fare or offerings for those not eating red meat or not too thrilled with the cookery (often rubbery) of the seafood dishes seemed limited -- how about a little more chicken? maybe a turkey sandwich? a really nice veggie salad? And how were many of the seafood dishes not that good (rubbery)?! Or was it really just us? All told we found the food was hit and miss - some dishes were yummy (soups/ red meat offerings) others kind of really not that good (salads/seafood). And breakfast buffet was rather dull/mediocre for a nice resort (omletts were great tho!). ALSO, surprisingly, the food service was often a let down (bringing out wrong orders many times -- even being told on more than one occasion that our incorrect order(s) were what we had asked for!!?? Or having to ask for cutlery/ water to be brought to table after food was brought and wait staff walked away?) Though 1/2 of the servers were friendly, the rest still have to be taught that skill? Or maybe not hired in the 1st place? Would definitely benefit by having new professionals look at and rework the menus to appeal to broader tastes/provide more range, and aldo scrutinize staff a bit more to weed out the less pleasant folk. **FOOD IN TOWN WAS BETTER WE FELT** PS re: tuck shop: if you could stock some toiletries like toothbrushes/ cold remedies/ sanitary products, I bet guests would appreciate that, esp as the one drug store in town closes at 5:00.
The facility is beautiful in a lovely small town on the coast.
Atmosphere luxurious.
The breakfast. Very dear for the coffee/danish.
Very nice place, good location, very confortable and clean
Everything. It’s one of our happy places.
Nothing.
The room was large except for the bathroom which was very small. Breakfast was delicious and we had dinner at Braxtons one night which was delicious too. The Ghost tour was fun!
The bathroom could have been bigger. It was very cramped.
Acceptance of dogs. Very friendly staff. Location to shops and restaurants.
Location, ground upkeep, balcony, service with luggage.
High price and cramped bathroom especially for a luxury resort. Fee for facilities.
Utterly perfect, honestly. The room was lovely and immaculate and comfortable. The staff was so kind. The hotel is luxurious without being pretentious. Sitting on the porch in a rocking chair reading a book while people around me played games, chatted, ate, and drank was so relaxing and restorative. I would come back here in a hot minute.
I recently stayed here and was deeply disappointed by the room conditions, especially considering the unnecessary high room price. The in-room items felt incredibly cheap for what we paid. The toilet paper was low-quality 1-ply, and the Kleenex tissues felt like sandpaper. To make matters worse, we could not get the balcony doors to open. When trying to report this, calling the main desk resulted in a disconnection every single time, forcing us to call back repeatedly. Furthermore, there was zero in-room information provided. There was no room directory explaining what to do around the property, where to go, or where to eat. There was also no room service menu available. To top it off, a property at this high price point does not even include a complimentary continental breakfast. The bright spots of the trip were the services. The free shuttle service to and from the hotel was excellent feature, especially considering the lack of parking in Saint Andrews. Additionally, once we finally reached them, the frontline staff was excellent, highly responsive, and incredibly timely. The team on the ground deserves praise, but management needs to fix their phone system and severely upgrade the room amenities to justify their pricing.
Room was 9/10, Breakfast was 9/10, Dinner was 7/10
The public spaces are wonderful. I enjoyed the porch where you could sit and enjoy the fresh air.
The room was poorly designed: the bathroom was so small it was unusable: the toilet was inches from the glass shower enclosure so you couldn’t sit, the towel rack was over toilet so towels were in the toilet, and the shower was so small and doorless so that water would escape the bathroom into the room. Most airplanes have larger bathrooms.
Enjoyed the pools and luxury appointments inside the main lobby.
Constant noise from construction tractors and landscaping equipment.
Breakfast buffet was incredible, the grounds are so lovely and the staff was also excellent.
I would love to bring my kids someday for a family outing but the prices are quite high for my liking. My wife and I sat outside on the patio just outside of the main entrance wanting to order some food. it took some time for someone to come out and take our order. then it took a while to get our order.
The hotel has such potential to be amazing. Yet like most (all?) Marriott run properties settles for good enough on virtually everything. An otherwise grande-dame hotel with true history and pedigree, is squandered on trying to be everything to everyone. The rooms are very nice and up to date, but the shower is bad we barely any flow. The wifi is OK. Meals in the hotel are very expensive. The outdoor pool is lovely, but like everything, it could be just so much better. The hotel tries to scare away birds (?) and plays a non-stop loop of noise which at a certain point has you wondering how the operators expect you to relax. St. Andrews is charming and a short walk away from the hotel. Just walk and get an amazing dinner instead of dining at the hotel. The coffee in the lobby is not free, which is borderline shameful. In short - a Marriott of 2026: squeeze the loyal customers for all the have and offer just enough to minimize complaints.
The hotel is very pleasant and beautiful, with a friendly and welcoming staff. It’s a great choice for families with children, especially thanks to the water slide and the nice playroom. Our room was also spacious and comfortable.
Unfortunately, we had an unpleasant experience regarding breakfast. Our Booking.com reservation stated that breakfast was included for our children, but the hotel initially claimed it was only for adults. We had to argue and prove what was included in our reservation, which was frustrating. The breakfast buffet was also somewhat disappointing, with basic items often missing and needing to be requested when they ran out. The staff was always quick to help when asked, but we expected better from a hotel of this standard.
Beautiful resort. Splurged and got a room with balcony which overlooked the fire pits. Went into town for a drink before dining at the hotel restaurant. Food was excellent. Was actually fairly reasonable cost for dinner and drinks. Enjoyed receiving a welcome treat in our room.
We recently discovered this treasure in St. Andrew’s by the Sea., New Brunswick. What a gorgeous hotel! From the moment we arrived we felt welcomed. This beautiful hotel is a CP hotel from the bygone days. Now owned by Marriott, this Autograph property has maintained its character and class while updating its amenities. The gorgeous verandah allows for afternoon tea, drinks and relaxing. The hotel throughout is gorgeous and so very clean and well-maintained. Our room was elegant and classy and very comfy. It was also very quiet which was amazing seeing as it was the middle of summer. The staff were all very friendly and happy and each had a story to share. I loved that there was a vast array of guests of all walks of life and agrs. The property is large! Great pool and area. Lots of chairs everywhere to sit. They even had fire pits set up. The food in either dining room and pubs was delicious and so perfect. Wait staff at Breakfast and the pub downstairs were very friendly. Our favourite part was sitting on the verandah at night reading or just listening to the music. Such a very relaxing stay. I made my husband promise to take me back every year. That’s how much I loved it here.
Just retuned from a few days with our teen boys and we loved every minute! The resort grounds are beautiful, bustling with families enjoying the porch and kids out on the front lawn. The staff and service were excellent. Dining/food as well. Location wise you can’t beat it, gorgeous views, short walk to the Main st. with more great dining and attractions. Our boys loved the resort golf course and pools. Yes the hotel has some areas where it could use some attention however I found minor in comparison to the overall greater experience and beauty with its history. We chose an un-renovated room for more space and the room was charming and very clean. Housekeeping was always available when needed. This place is a true classic!
Old fashioned in a great way! We loved the welcoming staff and the room was very comfortable. The front veranda and fire pits were welcoming after a day of sightseeing!
I probably didn’t need to book an ocean view room, it was just a tiny slice of view.
The property is stunning. It is comfortable and luxurious and has everything you could possibly need. The staff are polite and attentive and the hotel is located close to the waterfront, downtown and excursions.
I paid $500 per night for a room that had a washroom that was literally the size of a phone booth. It was clean and beautiful, but the closet was bigger than the bathroom. That was the only negative part of our stay and would make me hesitate before booking again.
Gute Lage, grosses Angebot

Small common area
Meals were appropriate for a resort of this caliber. Pleasantly served and nicely prepared.
Our room was too small for the amount and size of furnishings, leaving only an unusable single chair for sitting and inadequate space for moving around the foot of the bed to access the well apointed , yet small, bathroom. A wall mounted TV would and cabinet moved to the "nook" would improve lounge sitting options.
Great location, best in st Andrews, best facilities, very cool property
Price and size of rooms
The staff were exceptionally helpful, but our room was tiny, the pillows were very uncomfortable and the price was extremely high for what we paid for. I took my boys there mainly for the pool with the slide and the second day they couldn't go on the slide because it was getting fixed. A huge disappointment for them!!
Spacious room Extremely nice and helpful personnel at checking desk (Clara) The pools were nice and warm, the slide was fun. The quaint atmosphere Being dog-friendly made it awesome.
The historic hotel look.
Our room was disgustingly dirty. The facilities were run down and old. The staff didn’t care.
The pools were wonderful for our kids! The breakfast buffet was outstanding and the staff was so helpful and friendly!!
I did notice some mold/algae in some areas of the indoor pool and in our shower. Also our shower temperature regulator was bizarre: it was either scalding hot or cold- getting it to be “just right” was a 20 min process.
I love the old world elegance while at the same time the very casual atmosphere.
Classic old hotel with old world elegance in an excellent location
Room was on the small side, with lack of side chairs
Always love visiting the Algonquin. Been there 6 times and yet to have a bad experience.
The property had a nice historical vibe.
Over priced, more for seniors or families with young children. Restaurants had slow service and the food was mediocre but with the price of high end.
Contacted the hotel a few days in advance to request an early check-in, as expected, they could not provide any guarantees but said they would file my request. Arrived on the 3rd of July around 1 PM and was told they could not offer an early check-in however would meet their guaranteed 4 PM check-in time. In addition, was advised that I would receive a call if the room was available earlier. No call received so returned to reception at the 'guaranteed" 4 PM check-in time only to be told that our room still wasn't ready, again, advised I would receive a call when they could get us in. Still no call by 4:40 PM so I returned to reception and miraculously our room was now ready. Was given a room on the third floor where we couldn't help but notice enroute to our room dog hair all over the carpet in the main hallway, we were not traveling with a pet yet the Algonquin thought it appropriate after the long wait, inefficient check-in service, etc.. to house us in the pet owner section - lovely first impressions, a few barking dogs and fur on the floor. A long-standing Marriott member, wrote my honest review to the company after my travel and was issued an apology by the desk manager for the substandard service received. No other form of compensation, just a simple apology acknowledging they should do better. In short, and for the money, it's a beautiful hotel which is much better viewed from the "outside"!!!!!
Friendly staff from the moment we arrived. We were informed about daily activities and restaurant options. Great old style rooms were clean and the bathrooms updated. The night s;mores were a bonus.
If you have mobility difficulties, be sure to ask for a room near the elevator. Some hallways were quite long, but the pictures are very entertaining.
The breakfast was excellent, lots of variety, very good food and great service.
A minor complaint - the bathroom in our room (422) was a bit small and awkward. Not much space to hang wet towels.
Vraiment une belle endroit pour passer quelques jours en famille
Tout était très bien
The grounds of the hotel are really nice. The veranda is a great place to have a drink or coffee. They have nice firepits and a good outdoor pool. The indoor pool has a good water slide. We had a king bed room with balcony. The room was very small but the balcony was great. Generally good service, however we did request an early check out and again confirmed an hour before our stay and when we got here the room was not ready. They are building a nice spa which should open end of July. They have a "games room", however most of the games were broken. As an elite member, I did get breakfast vouchers for 2. The breakfast is great, however they charge a fee for the full breakfast and the room the for the breakfast is really odd. I felt like I was at a conference, i.e. tables with numbers, etc. Water street is only a 5-10 minute walk, good area to souvenir shop and eat. We did golf, it's about a 5 minutes drive, no discount for guests, good course. they also have tennis. Overall, we would return and we enjoyed it.
Stayed 3 nights visiting from Ontario. Hotel and amenities are beautiful, but management needs to make an adjustment on staffing to ensure quality service is met. For a resort of this caliber, there didn’t seem to be enough staff working in a variety of areas. For example, there should be at least 3-4 servers taking orders and bringing drinks to guests sitting on the veranda (which is a popular spot to sit). I want to stress that the servers who were there, were doing a decent job, but there needed to be more on shift to be able to ensure guests were served within an adequate amount of time. Many guests had to go to the bar indoors to get their own drinks. The same can be said for the pub- mediocre service - took awhile for the meal to come and it just didn’t seem to meet the level of expected service that this level of resort should be meeting. Zoe, at the coffee cart, was efficient, very knowledgeable and helpful. The young men who handled our luggage were also on the ball, efficient and very helpful. Again, this is a management issue as they have not adequately staffed areas properly.
Quality of the linens was exceptional. Veranda was very nice to sit out and have a few drinks and snacks. Pool was wonderful! Best seafood chowder ever!
We found the room much smaller than we expected. My husband‘s seafood fettuccine with red sauce was not very good at all. He thought it would be much better with a cream sauce.
The overall feel of the hotel is overwhelming.
We only had time to spend one night.
Intérieur de l,hôtel et la terrasse extérieure
Pas internet dans chambre. Aucun restaurant extérieur. Pas sur la mer
I enjoyed sitting on the porch and watching the world go by, in a cozy chair, with the sound of the piano and children's happy voices in the background. I enjoyed Afternoon Tea with so much food that I could save the pastry for a later snack. I loved that I was able to bring my dog and the pet friendliness of the establishment. I enjoyed the pool and the daily activities including the smores at night. And I can't wait to come back again!
I can't think of anything I did not like! I do have a suggestion though. I think the hotel would do well to have a kennel, or a dog day care. As pet friendly as it is, doggy daycare for lodgers who might wish to take a day trip, or go off the resort for a while would be great convenience - and one I know I would be willing to pay for.
Beauté du site. Zèle, diligence et empressement du personnel. Puisque je m'exprime difficilement en anglais, courtoisie à identifier un membre du personnel pour offrir le service en français.
Self contained, like a campus
Breakfast buffet was good Great outdoor pool Great shuttle service Beautiful lounge
Room prep was not up to par Fridge didn't work, was replaced with one that only had 3 legs and rocked every time you oped it. No ice bucket. No cups. No bottled water Mains in dining room were disappointing
Very well kept , nice location . Lovely staff
Property was great . Only improvement would be more information about amenities available. Also more “snack type “ food options for kids to grab a little slice of pizza or a plate of fries in the day would be nice
This is a lovely 100 year old resort. It has been kept up
Every door in my room stuck. Housekeeping showed up at 4:00 everyday
The staff was fantastic. This is an old historic hotels with a special ambiance. The terrace and veranda are great features.
There is not much of a sea view and you are not on the ocean. The food is costly and not exceptional.
The Algonquin Resort has much to recommend it, but ultimately our stay fell well short of the standard its reputation and pricing led us to expect. The positives are substantial. The property itself is beautiful, situated in one of Canada's most scenic regions. It is reminiscent of one of the Fairmont Canadian hotels (like the Laurier, the Empress or the Banff Springs). The staff were consistently courteous, helpful, and cheerful throughout our stay. In many ways, the staff were excellent and outstanding. Our room was spacious, the bed was exceptionally comfortable, and the resort offers several thoughtful amenities, including high-quality bath products, complimentary bicycles and e-bikes, shuttle service to and from the town centre, and guest laundry facilities. Unfortunately, the shortcomings were significant enough to overshadow many of these strengths. Housekeeping was inconsistent from day to day. Sometimes our room was serviced before noon; more often, we would return after a full day out around dinnertime only to find it had not yet been cleaned. Complimentary bottled water appeared sporadically, coffee mugs were sometimes left unwashed, and overall the attention to detail simply did not match the premium rates the resort charges. Maintenance was equally disappointing. Early in our stay I reported a loose closet door handle to the front desk. Despite remaining at the resort for a full week, no one ever came to repair it. The biggest disappointment, however, was the breakfast buffet. Aside from the excellent omelette station, the food was surprisingly mediocre. The pancakes were merely warm rather than freshly hot, the scrambled eggs were uninspiring, and the overall selection lacked the quality and variety one would expect from a resort of this calibre. It felt ordinary rather than exceptional. Noise was generally not an issue except around the pool. The resort appears to cater heavily to families, and the pool area was often filled with loud, boisterous activity (a lot of screaming) from early morning until late evening. An adults-only pool or quiet area would greatly enhance the experience for guests seeking relaxation. Two additional issues detracted from our stay. First, while we appreciate that the hotel is pet-friendly, dogs were permitted in nearly every common area, including the verandah and the indoor lounge with the fireplace. Trying to enjoy a drink or light meal beside barking dogs diminished what should have been peaceful spaces. Designating certain areas specifically for guests travelling with pets would provide a better balance for everyone. Second, despite trying throughout our entire stay, I was unable to secure a single appointment at the spa because it was fully booked. For a resort where the spa is promoted as a signature amenity, this was frustrating and disappointing. Overall, our stay was not unpleasant, but it was undeniably underwhelming. The Algonquin Resort has many admirable qualities, yet too many aspects of the guest experience lacked the consistency and attention to detail that its reputation and price point promise. Until meaningful improvements are made, we would be unlikely to return.
Stayed here for 2 nights in trip round “Maritimes”. Very comfortable hotel. Feels bit like a slice of history. We had standard room-small but comfortable. Loved the veranda-a lovely place to sit and have a drink(though service could be slow-1 very nice chap on duty who struggled to cope with numbers when busy). We had buffet breakfast one morning which was enjoyable and reasonably priced. We ate in the pub which was likewise decent value. Probably best hotel we will stay in on our jaunt. Walk down into St Andrews(which is lovely) very pleasant.
Très beau, bien situé, services intéressants.
Chambre vraiment pas assez insonorisée.
Called in for a coffee to check the hotel out before booking a room. Coffee was delivered to our table, no water, no napkin! The coffee was stone cold. Had to search for a staff member to tell her. Instead of removing the cups & saucers she just brought new coffees, again no napkins, no water, no apologies, no service! Found somewhere else to stay!
St. Andrew’s is very cute. Lovely isolated location. Old Heritage hotel that has been nicely renovated. Nice amenities and they seem to be able to handle larger numbers of guests regardless of the weather.
The hotel is dog friendly, but not of their included activities are. Dogs must not be left alone in the room, and there is no shaded parking, so leaving in the car is also out. So no included activities if you have a dog. Standard 10% pet fee, but nothing else added with that. They have dog sitters, which must be arranged in advance, but did not tell me this until registration. Staff seems quite inexperienced generally
The pillows were uncomfortable. There was a 30 dollar fee to use the facilities in which we had no intention to do so.
The town of St Andrews was beautiful
We got to our room and our view was a construction site, portable washroom etc I then had to go back to front desk and ask for another room after being told they were full at original check in We got another room after moving all our stuff. I asked twice for towels and dressing gown for 3 people as I had booked. I have been before and I felt very overpriced for a tired room and the trouble of moving around
Loved the staff. They were all so engaging in conversation and were fun to converse with. We took advantage of the shuttle service to do some shopping. That was an unexpected service that was appreciated.
Can't really think of anything. My family enjoyed this iconic hotel. Driving up to the hotel really sets the tone for what's to come, and we were not diappointed.
The room was very nice , except the bathroom. It was small compared to with no counter space. The dining room food was very good but also very expensive.
The room was very small with a tv that was too large for the size of the room. The chairs in the room were very uncomfortable to sit in. Very tiny windows that did not allow for a lot of natural light in the room.
My three-night stay at this hotel was unfortunately one of the most disappointing hotel experiences I've had in a long time. I booked an "ALGONQUIN VIEW" room, described as overlooking St. Andrews, Passamaquoddy Bay, and beyond. At check-in, I was informed that due to my Bonvoy Gold status, I would receive an upgrade to a "STUDIO ROOM." I pointed out that I had booked the "ALGONQUIN VIEW" room category specifically for the view. Aside from the poor condition of the "STUDIO ROOM" (stained carpet, worn furniture), the room was located directly next to a construction site. In addition to the view on the construction site, the staff at the front desk could not assure that noisy work would not be taking place there in the coming days. I therefore refused the upgrade and requested a room in the "ALGONQUIN VIEW" category, I had booked. These rooms were unfortunately not available, thus I was offered a downgrade to an "ALGONQUIN KING" room on a higher floor, which had a view at the town and the St. Croix River. Since it was already after 9 pm and I didn't want to argue any further, I accepted the offer. The room had been renovated a few years ago and was nicely furnished. Unfortunately, I wasn't offered any compensation, but that wasn't important to me. What really bothered me over the next two days, however, was the poor housekeeping. The beds were made very sloppily, the bathroom was only partially cleaned, the wet shower mat was left where I placed it in the morning, the empty tissue box wasn't replaced, coffee capsules and water weren't refilled, and no clean cups were provided. My verbal and telephone requests to the front desk to refill the coffee went unanswered. When I showed up at reception at least with the used cups, empty water bottles, and the used coffee capsule waste did I receive any help. (Thank you, Tetiana!) As an apology, I received a drink voucher for i.e. domestic beer at the bar (which later led to a short discussion with the bartender why a Moosehead beer from Saint John, NB is „domestic“ and a Foghorn beer from Rothesay, NB is not, finally we got the Foghorn English Pale Ale…) and a voucher for the breakfast buffet before departure. Unfortunately, breakfast wasn't a great experience either, as the staff was very slow and seemed unmotivated. In addition to the costs stated at the time of booking, a resort fee of CAD 30 per night was charged. These hidden costs were not mentioned when I booked several months prior. All in all, my expectations were unfortunately not met. I paid more and received significantly less than anticipated. This is very disappointing, as it is a truly beautiful resort with a lot of charm. The service definitely needs improvement.
We frequently stay in Marriott properties, and are lifetime Titanium members. For nearly twenty years, the Algonquin Resort was one of our favorite annual traditions. We returned year after year because of the hotel’s elegant and tasteful decor, beautifully appointed rooms, wonderful amenities, expansive grounds, and ideal proximity to the historic town of St. Andrews. It always felt like a grand yet comfortable resort experience — distinctive, charming, and worthy of its history. Sadly, after our most recent visit, it is unlikely we will return. While the guest rooms may have been due for a refresh, the latest renovation is genuinely baffling. Whoever oversaw the redesign made a dramatic miscalculation. From the paint colors and furnishings to the flooring and room appointments, nearly every choice feels cheap, generic, and completely disconnected from the character of a historic resort hotel. The overall effect is less timeless elegance and more generic motel. What makes this especially disappointing is that a previous renovation a number of years ago had actually been handled quite well. Even as those rooms began to show some age, they still retained a sense of warmth, quality, and understated sophistication appropriate to the property. The new design abandons all of that. The prices, meanwhile, remain in luxury-hotel territory, but the rooms no longer reflect that standard. It is difficult to justify premium rates for accommodations that now resemble something far more generic and inexpensive. The Algonquin has long been a special place for us, which makes writing this review particularly sad. We sincerely hope management reconsiders the direction these renovations have taken, because a great historic hotel has lost much of the character and charm that once made it exceptional. To end on a positive note, the Algonquin has always been wonderfully welcoming to guests traveling with dogs. Over many years of visits with our small dog, we consistently appreciated the hotel’s warmth, hospitality, and pet-friendly atmosphere.
Beautiful hotel and decor! Staff was friendly and extremely helpful!

The hotel is always excellent. The last of its kind in the province. Aman in the bar was excellent and the breakfast staff also. I’m sure it’s hard to find this kind of employee. Checking in is a vital way to connect with staff . I’m see that options of contactless check in is available but not for all. It makes for a less of an experience for many . I worry that the hotel will become just another empty stop along the way. The hotels history is important.
No mushroom toast for breakfast . A small thing , but if it’s on the menu it should be available. The avocado toast option was a soggy mess. Eggs need to be added at the last minute to prevent this. And the toast should have been sourdough as it holds itself well. My sunshine breakfast was good though.
The property and staff were wonderful. Pool was huge and nice temperature but, no change rooms or private showers. Could use a lot of beautifying - quite bleak.
The king room was a total disappointment. So small, the dolly to unload luggage wouldn't fit through narrow door or make the turn with a wall immediately in front. Nowhere to move or place luggage. Only room enough for one person to move between end of bed and tv unit. One hard kitchen chair and one small other one at a tiny table 2' off the floor unable to even hold a laptop. Unable to move in bathroom space, no counter space - door didn't even open fully. No robes. Coffee too awkward in drawer below TV. Room terribly uncomfortable in every way for two people. Definitely not a treat. Would not return for that reason or that price.
Clean. Beautiful view
Staff were great. Clean building. History and character of the building. The ambiance and friendliness.
The bathroom was very small and cramped.
It was in a great area. Bed was comfortable.
Very much. Great view

We come to this hotel on our birthdays and our list trip was fantastic. We didn’t have the best time in November and almost didn’t come back. We got one of the refreshed rooms, everything was comfortable and relaxing. We enjoyed our evening down by a fire place and ate at the pub. I’m relieved to say last fall’s trip must have been a one-off.
My children loved the pool/water slide area and the breakfast buffet!!

It’s cleaning and welcoming.
Drop cloths on stairs and floors that we had to walk over to get to our room/ elevators.
Beautiful location and great pub!
The pool was dirty some of the staff was rude and they did not have the rooms ready prior to check in.
Love the atmosphere!
The only thing we didn’t like is that we weren’t able to get our rooms at 4 which is the check-in and didn’t get settled into our rooms until 445. It would have been nice to receive some sort of compensation as we stay there often and had two rooms.
Upon check-in the credit card information which was on file when booked did not work. Got to room and everything seemed very dusty, all the bottles were empty in shower (shampoo, conditioner and body wash). Called front desk, took 40mins for replacement. Overall not the best experience for the price you pay. 6/10
Meals were exceptional.
My stay was too short
As a frequent guest I am wondering what steps,if any, have been taken to address the recent outbreak of Hepatitis A in the hotel restaurant that infected a number of guests?
Lovely hotel with great atmosphere Comfortable lobby and seating around fireplace. Staff everyone of them so friendly. My particular enjoyment on a wintery few days was the lovely staff in the dining room Luila, Varun and Serhi. Breakfast with Luila was lovely so attentive. Front desk staff smiling and pleasing.
Not realizing when I booked their were different buildings. For most it wouldn't matter but I have a walking disability and it makes walking any distance difficult. The front desk staff did get me as close as they could last .minute realizing my issue. Would have been helpful knowing to ask for building with dining.
Everything was perfect !!
We had a lovely 2 bed room. Our dog was welcomed (though we were pointedly asked more than once whether our dog was being looked after when we walked by the front desk. (This is the first time, in visits to many hotels, that we were treated like this. The dog was quiet and well-behaved. It was the same person each time who asked us.) The food at Braxton's was always delicious and creative. We had tea on our second day and were delighted by the treats. The indoor pool was fun, and sitting in front of a big fire together was very relaxing. He took at ghost story tour....wish it had been told with a bit more passion.
The Front desk staff and Braxtons staff were exceptionally welcoming and very attentive, the room was comfortable newly renovated, spacious and well appointed, and the overall ambiance of Christmas is fabulous. For us it was a truly memorable stay.
Nothing at all. We’re already looking forward to returning once the sauna and massage center are completed!
Staff was friendly, knowledgable and spoke excellent English. Loved the fireplaces in the lobby and the chance to mingle and meet other guests. Surprised at the amount of dogs staying at the hotel. Our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Winston, enjoyed meeting as many as he could. Leia greeted us with a wag of her tail and allowed petting. Staff placed us near my mother's room, which was helpful due to her mobility problems. The ghost tour was really good!
The furniture was not as grand as the room and the rugs were frayed. TV too large.
Cocktails and supper on the porch. Breakfast. Great staff!
Defective shower valve, defective headboard reading lights (one always on, one inoperable) and mechanical noise from heating duct. I reported this to the front desk on departure.
Lose reception alot
Our room smelled like mould
The location is beautiful, the staff is exceptional!
Check in wasn’t until 4:00 which is late for the price you pay for the rooms. And then the room wasn’t even ready so we had to wait another 1/2 to 3/4 hour to check in. In addition we were charged $50 extra per night for “additional adult” which was not communicated to us when we booked online. Since we booked for 4 adults any additional cost should have already been included in our total quoted and We should not have been charged this additional amount!
Location was excellent. The pool and spa facilities were excellent also.
The bathroom was not very large and the room was small. For the price I was expecting a lot more. Disappointed would about sum it up. We inquired about Ministers Island and were advised they had a shuttle we could use so we took it, Myself and three others are all over 70 but were dropped off about a mile and half from the buildings and told it was a short walk up the hill. Not a very good service. Plus once up at the original barn it was at least another mile walk to the house?? The hotel could have advised us not to take this shuttle as we were seniors. We spent more time walking up hill than viewing. Not impressed with this service.
Beautiful property. We had a big room with super comfortable beds. Friendly and helpful staff.
Nothing. Absolutely loved it.
Beautiful grounds, beautiful and comfortable accommodations and interior spaces while still maintaining historic charm.
The only negative was the late night noises from groups on the lawn area at the fire pits (2:00 am).
Location was perfect Staff was very helpful Food and drink excellent and good value
Very good
