Drove past today and full of dinghy invaders standing outside it.
smells horrible outdated everything terrible service careless money grabbers has too be one of the worst hotels in preston
It was nice but dated
Needs refresh
Dirty room
Stains on beds No one had key to let me into gym in morning Ash trays overflowing . Outside area dangerous / fag ends everywhere Needs renovated Asked for payment for supplement at breakfast before we even had tea / coffee
Location
Hotel looked very tired, vacuum cleaner left in reception for the entire stay. lack of staff & customer service. Communal areas very tired require attention. Bathroom had black mould, extractor fan didn’t work.
Perfect price performance match. Nothing fancy but a decent place to stay.
Great location close to motorway very friendly welcome
Very dated bedroom, two armchairs in bedroom were very old and in poor condition. The bathroom smelled very damp and foisty, there was lots of mould in the shower cubicle on the ceiling and around the tiles. The bed was comfy and the room was warm and quiet.
Location was convenient and the staff were nice.
The hotel accommadation area is a bit worn. The corridor to the rooms had a bit of a stale smell and the walls could do with being painted. The bathroom was spacious but did notice the area around the hinges of the toilet lid could have been cleaner. The shower was OK but the temperature fluctuated a little bit. The window was not easy to close (partly not wanting to break it) so could hear some motorway traffic. The area around the windows I think needs smartening up including the net curtains. Quite a few negatives but wouldn't say no to staying there again.
Property very tired and in need of a good clean Staff excellent and still good value
Awful horrible dirty staff awful
Noisy, dirty and poor condition.
The entrance very dull corridors smelled a bit damp the room itself was ok didn’t smell but needed a proper clean for instance spider webs on lights
Comfy bed
Clean, spacious room with decent bathroom; friendly and efficient staff. Location could not be more convenient for the M6 and the road noise is minimal considering how close it is.
It looks a bit tired and soulless and it’s on a motorway roundabout so hardly a pretty setting, but the room was much nicer than I expected.

Good evening meal. Comfortable bed.
Very poor lighting in the bedrooms
The breakfast and location was really good
The room was very rundown and bathroom wasn't very clean decided not even to use it for thr shower
The breakfast was excellent staff were fine
We felt the room wasn't to standard cleanliness only one pillow bathroom needed updating bath panel damaged room 208 we have stayed several times Andalways being satisfied
Helpful staff
Ok
VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH OUR STAY. WE FEEL THIS HOTEL IS IN SERIOUS NEED OF A REFURB .
The view of the river was the best thing about it
Dirty, dated, uncomfortable , food overpriced, total overall cost of stay was overpriced. Customer service shocking . I have tried to contact the property for a refund but to no avail
Very friendly staff
Convenient location
Outside area
I stayed at the Macdonald Tickled Trout Hotel and unfortunately found the room in a poor state—thick dust under the bed, cobwebs, exposed wiring in the corner, and a mouse that ran across the floor and vanished beneath peeling carpet. That said, the woman on reception was fantastic—she was completely understanding, didn’t question my concerns, and immediately issued a full refund, along with free breakfast and parking. No fuss, no pushback—she handled it professionally and with empathy. The hotel clearly has major maintenance and cleanliness issues to fix, but I can’t fault the staff on duty for how they handled it.
First room I was given stank of cigarettes, second room had missed being decorated in a few years, had melted curtain, jaded and very worn furniture and mold and wooden panel swelling in the bathroom. Third room was ok. Hotel needs a massive refurb.
So dated and in much need of a make over. Doors banging until 11pm then away at 5am. Room decor and bathrooms need a full refurbishment. The restraint was also dated and overpriced .. My chicken had blood in it and the £12.50 prawn cocktail was a bowl of lettuce with few small prawns on top.
Worst hotel ever- public areas are good but my room (318) was filthy and as a disabled veteran I would have rather stayed in a tent!. I had requested an accessible room and was put on top floor with stairs!. Mattress was V shaped and main door lock and bathroom door lock broken.
Facilities are good spacious dinner
Cosmetically poor and in need of renovation. Very few staying here but easy parking and just off the M6.
Just off the motorway so location worked well for travelling Southbound.
All fine
Excellent Breakfast. Good Location Close to M 6
Some rooms require update
Location very close to M6
arrived 10 mins early, went into bar ordered 2 hot drinks, waited 20 mins then had to go up to bar to ask were our drinks were. Room cold, had to wait 30 mins for a staff member to come and check heater, faulty switch, bathroom smelt of damp and mattress was brick hard, hardly slept. In dire need of a revamp. Drinks expensive but food was good.
The public areas were great
Room was very poor - not very clean - bathroom door broken - extra lock on door broken - tv remote broken - ceiling falling in and more cobwebs than enough
We met really good and helpful staff.
Fantastic room on the ground floor which is what I asked for, friendly staff, lovely lake at the back. Food not so good
Excellent breakfast (Stornoway black pudding available!). Nice room with view over the river. Very handy position, easy to access, just off the M6.
No negatives - all good.
The staff were very helpful and friendly when we arred. The hotel suited our purpose however the corrdors smelled of damp, and there was no heating in bathroom..
Convenience. Just off the M6. Price was good for what we needed it for.
The decoration in the bathroom needs up dating. Paint coming off the ceiling. Also, did realise this until the morning, but not enough towels and the shower leaked all over the floor. Didn't report it as we had a quick turnaround. Didn't stay for breakfast as it was costly for a full English breakfast.
The location of the property was excellent . The view from the window was lovely. The bed was clean and comfortable
There was a dividing door in between our room and another and we could hear everything from the other room, when they put the television on it was like having the television on in our room. Our television remote did not work so we couldn’t change channels. There dried up noodles in our kettle . There was only one towel in the bathroom so we had to ask for another one and a clean kettle which to be fair were brought to us quite quickly . Also we had to pay for parking
Handy location
Hotel is very tired! Rooms were ok (website photos are very definitely photo shopped!) Rooms were really hot despite the weather not being that hot, there was a fan in the room but that did little to cool the room down. Couldn't open windowsxas bugs/flies were flying around outside. Food was really good including breakfast but the breakfast staff were more interested in hiding round the corner chatting. Coukd be a fantastic venue but definitely needs updating.
The hotel needs a make over. The carpets are thread bare. The towels have seen better days. The sink in the bathroom needs a dam good clean.
View from room over the Ribble. 18 bird species identified! Restaurant food was quite good, though not exciting.
Bathroom was not as pristine as one would expect in a modern hotel. Bedroom and decor a little tired.
Nice hotel but had a long walk to room. Could do with more light in the room
Spacious deluxe rooms. tea ,coffee biscuits provided and option for room service
It’s was on route to another location
The floors were went when we arrived , the Wi-Fi didn’t work, the beds were hard/stiff and uncomfortable and the heating wouldn’t turn off so was super hot the staff were less then helpful
Staff were friendly helpful
It got very loud in the bar with a group of guests which resulted in a fight. The building internal and external is tired especially for this group. Problems with the WiFi
The guy on reception was brilliant
Nothing
Staff member on duty was helpful. Room was clean and comfortable.
The party in the adjoining room were very noisy. It was almost 4am before they shut up. Although we were wearing ear plugs we were still disturbed all night. I did mention this to the staff member the following morning.
Breakfast excellent, room a lot bigger than expected and staff we all helpful and friendly.
they had no guinness zero, and only 2 bottles of alcohol free larger, would expect the bar to be better stocked than it was.
Staff very polite and helpful. Food ,good quality. Rooms, very comfortable.
No Free parking. Dinner a little overpriced but good quality.
As a business user the Tickled Trout Hotel adequately provides for all my requirements. Location, parking, excellent friendly staff, clean comfortable rooms and a consistently good restaurant. I will be visiting again very soon.
It’s clean and quiet
It’s perfect
All round good
Stayed here about 5 years ago and as I had business nearby seemed the right choice.. however, the rooms are neglected. Dust everywhere, skirting, TV, curtains and pelmet.. obviously not seen a Hoover in many months.. bathroom is quite small and who decided to put the loo so damned close to the wall?? You need to be a contortionist to wipe! Hairs in the sink and some sort of substance around the plug hole? Window over rider not secured to the window and quite a bit of road noise from M6. Food and drink is actually decent quality (except the chips as more like soggy raosties) but very high cost. Reduction on the portion size perhaps to bring costs back inline? First negative review I have had to leave in a long time. Would only come back if it was brought back to standard of previous years. Such a shame as it’s a lovely location next to the river with convenient links to the motorway and for Lake District.
Location
Very tired, needs a renovation., the bathroom smelt of damp. No ambiance in the restaurant, didn’t even have Prosecco or any sparkling wine available.
Worst hotel night ive ever had. And this hotel was great when stayed previously. Carpet soaking in part of room. Smell of damp. So disapponting , as had great stay previously. Such shame, wont be staying again. If i could get a refund i would. Will be complaining to management, at tickled trout. Thank you.
We had a long wait for coffee in the morning. We skipped breakfast, and we only wanted coffee and pastry. The coffee bar was not manned.
The room with a view and that the rooms were next to each other.
The bathroom was not upto clean standards. The plugs to charge phones near bed were not uk plugs maybe an adaptor provided or explained on website that one maybe needed as phones being charged are important to people nowadays and easy accessible when asleep.
Has seen better days, the bed in our room had collapsed so was very uncomfortable to sleep in
Excellent Breakfast one of the reasons we have returned several times
Nothing
Bar and food overpriced Room absolutely filthy!!
I should have known, it was so cheap, but the place is very run down and tired. And it is a motorway service hotel, it seemed to do well for British Gas engineers staying there. But I won’t be back. The windows don’t fully seal so there was a slight bit of motorway noise. Bathroom while clean is a bit worn and rusty. Hot water was intermittent. Furniture probably not updated since the 90s
Possibly the worst hotel I've stayed in. The lock on the door was broken, I can't even begin to describe the stains on the chair! Decor wasn't just dated it was peeling/broken/mismatched. I also wasn't told there was a code to exit the car park, I had to request info about breakfast, and when checking out I wasn't asked anything about the stay. Breakfast was very poor too. Avoid this hotel!
