Room very clean but very dated regarding furnishings. Dissappointed that with a bookin for 2 guests there was only 1 bath towel in the bathroom ( we later found towels inside the wardrobe???) All staff very very friendly :). Jamie who checked us in was very welcoming & friendly - he really made a difference, he’s a credit to your hotel
The room was very good however check in was slow especially through the female clerk.
They found our passport in the room when we checked out but extended our stay in another room. The hotel did not call us and had it over to us when we were still staying at the property. After we exited Durham to London ,we had to come back a day later and collect our passport .It was an Expensive Inconvenience…
Efficient staff although we did have to queue for quite a long time to check in. Didn't use the gym, good breakfast and well located for the city.
Beautiful hotel at a very convenient location that is close to shopping and tons of restaurants. Will definitely stay here again.
Beautiful hotel and great location.
Some cobwebs found on light fittings otherwise fine. Lack of local info in room unless using app.. not all older persons can do this.
Excellent service
Great Hotel good staff convenient location
The Durham Royal County is very centrally located. The rooms are comfortable and well-appointed with lovely bathrooms. The staff were efficient and friendly. Good buffet breakfast although the coffee from a machine was not great. The reception area, bar and dining room, despite being in a historic building are corporate and bland. I would recommend for the location and the rooms.
I brought my girlfriend for a nights stay. Absolutely brilliant. We will certainly be coming back. Cheers Matthew and Donna
Excellent location for town centre, polite and friendly staff
Very convenient for a relaxed weekend wandering around the City centre visiting attractions and enjoying hospitality venues.
Excellent location and great value for money
Perfect spot in the centre of Durham
The hotel itself was clean, the staff were great and the bed was comfortable however our room was very dated, small and the bath was incredibly creaky. The quality of the breakfast was alright but it was Luke warm at best which let it down. Overall it was fine but you can get better at a lot cheaper rates.
Excellent stay,
Fast efficient check in with an upgrade to a suite!
Has the potential to be much more, parts are very tired and our room was quite noisy. On check in the young male receptionist was brilliant and went above and beyond, his female counterpart was, in complete contrast, surly and rude. Breakfast was disappointing.
Expedia website was not upfront about the £11 per night parking charge. The hotel was a bit of a maze to get to room(lift, corridor, ramp, stairs, corridor). Typically soulless corporate hotel.
The room and bathroom weren't the cleanest. Alot of hair on the floor. Grubby around the shampoo etc. Food was decent and service in restaurant was nice but it was really really slow. 90 minutes for 2 courses and only about 3 other tables in.
Noisy generator running at 3am for hours. Then hammering and drilling at 8am.
Great location and lovely big room. Awesome location walk easily to all attractions and restaurants
The perfect hotel! Room 229, more like an apartment than hotel room. All spotless, and extremely helpful staff. Breakfast was usual buffet style woth plenty of other options if needed. Local for everything that was needed myself as well.
Goid comfy bed in a nice room we were upgraded without extra cost. Wifi a bit patchy when the hotel was busy. No problem at all parking although of course there is the extra cost. Good location for central Durham
From my first interaction, I sensed that guests who are non-white or speak English with an accent may not receive the same warmth as others. While the front desk staff greeted the white guests ahead of me with friendly conversation, the male clerk (Gavin) became noticeably less cordial when it was my turn. He also failed to mention that housekeeping services must be specifically requested. Because of this omission, my room was not cleaned the next day — which I initially accepted without complaint. However, on the following morning when I requested housekeeping from a female clerk, she raised her voice and asked, “Did you book the housekeeping service?” When I explained that no one had informed me of such a policy, she offered a short, formal apology, yet her manner remained distant. The most unpleasant discovery came when I took a shower and noticed the water nearly overflowing. Upon checking the drain, I found it completely clogged with a large mass of hair from a previous guest (see attached photo). It was clear that the bathroom had not been properly cleaned before my arrival. To add to the discomfort, when I went down for breakfast one morning, I was told that “someone has already used your room number.” Although the staff eventually let me dine, the experience was awkward....
A hotel with history which was central to the centre of Durham. The staff were helpful and welcoming.
A nice quiet place to rest on our journey up north. The staff was helpful, the beds were comfy, and the room was unexpectedly large for England. Breakfast was delicious. Only bad part was that there were not enough usb charging ports by the bed, but it’s not a big deal. Probably our best stay on our England trip.
A nice 2 night stay at the Delta Durham. Staff were friendly and eager to help. One small issue was that we were not made aware at check in that we had to opt in to having our room serviced and therefore this was not carried out after our first nights stay.
Lovely, quiet hotel close to old Durham. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and particular kudos to those working the evening shift in the restaurant and bar.
Good location Comfortable room Clean room and bathroom
Just an on the spur decision to visit Durham great place like a mini York
Good value, very comfortable pillows
I attended a wedding not to far from the hotel, so when I came to check in, front of desk was warm and welcoming, friendly atmosphere, house keeping staff very friendly, room was over the riverside, beautiful views, room was clean, and fresh, beds were very comfortable. Bathroom very clean and spacious.Temperature controlled room, which made it amazing when it was rather warm when we had come back later on. Definately recommend! ❤️
Our stay at Delta hotel was top class , would definitely book again.
One particular male staff member quite assuming and condescending. When we asked re electric car charge points his response was ‘oh I wouldn’t get an electric car !’ . Extraordinary !
The main problem was the lift not working throughout our stay and we were on the 3rd floor. Also there were 2 coachloads of guests staying and the breakfast experience was very poor. On one day we had to queue, there was hardly any food and lots of uncleared tables. The room was clean and staff helpful but there were not enough to cope with the numbers. Our bathroom door was difficult to open from the inside which was a safety concern. We reported it as urgent but it was not fixed.
I don't think I like anything about this hotel. Didnt think I will write a bad review for a Marriott hotel. I had staged in different Marriott hotel around the world but this one is horrible. Mouldy stink in the bath area. The room is so small that if anyone who is claustrophobic should stay away. We had booked breakfast for one day, which is £15 per person. Coffee was horrible, baked beans, eggs and bacon were all out, no one cares to refill it until we asked. It was only before 9, we were not that late. If anyone do stay there, there are cafes near the hotel, only 3 mins walk, they sell full English breakfast around £10, or a bacon and egg bap at £6, very nice and fresh
Hotel need a complete revamp as the condition is worn out at best. The elevator was not working in the main wing so we were forced to walk up two floors, take the connection skyway to our block and then walk up or down the stairs in that block to reach our floor, which was very exhausting and tedious. When using the entrance across the street in the riverside block to save ourselves from climbing the stairs we were quite curtly told that the entrance is only for staff and that customers are required to undergo the ordeal on climbing multiple staircases to reach the other block.
Filthy room with leftover adult gummies under the vanity. Disgusting bathroom with black mold all around sink, and rusty handles in bathtub. Please avoid.
The mattress was worn and has seen better days probably a few years ago already. The airconditioning vents were exceptionally dusty - a hayfever challenge as they are blowing at the entry door and above the bed itself. The breakfast was overpriced for the quality provided. Not real value for money when compared to equivalent hotels in Newcastle or York
Superb friendly staff. Great location. All round very good. Rooms are a little old fashioned but this didn’t matter. Staff were outstanding.
Great location, Durham gorgeous. Hotel good but needs some refurb. Lift pit of service throughout stay
I have stayed here many times to visit my son and the experiences have been patchy. This visit was on the poor end of my experiences. I had booked 3 rooms and only 2 were ready when I arrived with my family at 3:45. We did not get the keys to the third room until after 9pm. The staff did not contact me to let me know the room was ready. The staff seemed very flustered and not focussed on customer experience (it was university graduation season and they were busy). There were no tissues in one of the room and insufficient coffee sachets for our stay. When we asked for more coffee, we were given tea. The lift to the rooms has been out of order for a couple of weeks and there was no offer to help us take our luggage up two flights of stairs. The room rates were really high (presumably due to demand) but the experience did not match the premium price point.
Visiting our son. Good location. Lovely room and friendly staff.
Central, comfortable with an excellent breakfast and friendly staff. Would be happy to stay here again.
Great location. Large hotel, parking very helpful.
Lovely, older but very dignified hotel. Wonderful food in restaurant and excellent service. Handy for walking up the hill to the Cathedral and for walking to other areas like the main square and shops. I loved it. Very comfortable room and nice big bathroom. Definitely recommended.
We had a warm welcome and the reception staff were very friendly and efficient . The didn’t mention the loyalty to join to get 10% off food and drink it was only I noticed it on the wall. Car park gets very busy but they helped us get parked when we couldn’t find a space. The room was ok and was meant to be delux room. It was a pleasant room but I wouldn’t describe it as delux. It was nice having air con. The shower head didn’t attach properly to the rod. Bed was comfortable . We ate in the bar and the food was very tasty. Didn’t have breakfast there. Well located for the town which was lively and close to the cathedral and castle. Plenty of places to eat. Town is up a hill but not too steep. It is also only about we minutes from beamish
We chose the hotel at random, knowing it was central and had on site parking. In fact it was the perfect choice for exploring the city. Close to all the historic sites, and easy walking to restaurants and pubs. The staff were very friendly and efficient - which made the stay even better.
Extremely friendly staff, hotel in perfect location and reasonably priced. Would stay here again
Visiting university open day
Chosen for convenience for Durham Regatta and town. Very ordinary hotel nothing special. Food choice for dining was poor and the food not great. Dusty room but clean bathroom. Uncomfy bed and pillows. Very overpriced. Friendly staff
We arrived and went straight to bed as it was late when we got there. Bed comfortable but surprised no face cloths in the bathroom . Shower excellent and breakfast really tasty and with plenty of choice. Left luggage in house while we visited the Durham uni.Easy to walk to the Uni business centre. A good choice.
The property is well located but extremely basic. The price doesn’t reflect this especially when compared to other similar hotels in the area. Check-in was late and at 3:30 I was still waiting for my room.
The staff were unfriendly and the bed was terrible. We were able to get a mattress topper to make the bed bearable. The windows did not open and controlling the room temperature was extremely difficult.
We had a wonderful stay Delta Hotels Durham Royal County. The hotel's location in Durham oldtown could not be better; it's close to everything. The hotel is clean, comfortable and the staff are extremely helpful. The breakfast buffet is excellent, with plenty of choices. They even will make your eggs to order. Breakfast hours suit all guests (0630 - 1030) and checkout isn't until 1200. Definitely would recommend!
…
Wonderful place to stay.
Well located hotel - fridge was a bonus. Good choice at breakfast
Great location, comfy bed and good braakfast.
Room and bathroom were both clean. Sat in garden with a drink which was nice. Had gluten free breakfast they made me 2 poached eggs then i put bacon beans mushrooms and tomato with it.they also made me 2 gluten free toast and gave me 2 gluten free cereal pkts schar cornflakes and schar muesli.i also had pineapple and watermelon chunks with a bit yoghurt. So got well fed which is a change when you need a gluten free breakfast. Most places you wont get cereal or toast.also have choice of coffees out of machine and fresh juices.
Great service and value for money
Reception staff were brilliant in fact all staff were brilliant
Super comfy bed, big room with full amenities. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Comfortable. I hope you had a toothbrush as an amenity in the room.
Reception on arrival and departure efficient and friendly .Delighted to be offered a room upgrade which enabled riverside view Only meal we had being breakfast was fine, full English buffet style you can have as much or as little as you want ,with helpful restaurant staff Daily room house keeping excellent The hotel position is perfectly situated for all town amenities
Our family really enjoyed our stay, great weekend away
So much to see in the area and the Hotel was in the centre which was a perfect location to walk to the local visitor attractions!
Lovely room and good breakfast. Helpful staff, very convenient for walking around Durham
The staff were very friendly and helpful. We were a short walk from the cathedral and castle.
A little disappointing for such a fantastic city
Liked it
We enjoyed our stay, unfortunately the lift was out of order which was inconvenient but otherwise the hotel offered all we needed. Overall the hotel was very ckean, however the room was rather dusty. Staff all friendly and a great location for visitibg Durham.
Fabulous hotel in a perfect location. Staff were super friendly and the breakfast was lovely. Highly recommend as a great base for exploring the city
Attentive and friendly staff.
Stayed in this hotel before good location nice room staff very accommodating would recommend.
Delightful location.
Unique setting for this hotel! Very good served breakfasts. Huge bedroom for my daughter and I.
We stayed for three nights for my husband's 60th birthday. The hotel was great, clean and tidy and the staff were wonderful. I had booked a Deluxe room but we were upgraded to a superior room by the hotel before we arrived. The only downside to this was our room was in the newest part of the hotel (Riverside) and the lift to take us to the link walkway was broken which meant that we had to walk up and down four flights of stairs, two floors, which took it's toll on my arthritic knee.
Having your room made up every day is something you need to opt in to. If you are not asked at check-in, it doesn't happen unles you complain. Why not change the policy to actively opt out????? I'm sure that I'm not the only guest to complain about this.
Lovely hotel, very handy for the town centre
It was amazingly spacious including the roomy bathroom. There was a fridge, lovely teas, and a safe, which were much appreciated. It was centrally located and very close to Durham University, making our visit with our daughter very convenient.
Nice king bed, good breakfast for 14 pounds each. Desk very helpful.
I had a comfortable stay here, and it was a fantastic base for exploring Durham. It’s the only hotel I’ve ever stayed at with a section of the in-room bin specifically for recycling, which I really appreciated. I found it difficult to alter the room temperature, but to be fair, I didn’t ask staff about this. Staff members were friendly and helpful.
Staff were very accommodating and did all that was expected.
Overall stay is good. All staff are friendly and caring. Resraurant is good. Body soap empty when we go for a shower at night.
Great location, great rooms, easy plentiful parking (though this is chargeable! 😞)
The stay was good overall. I didn’t like the food though, the burger and fries should have been much better for a Marriott.
Just an average hotel, small lift.
Wonderful stay, staff were all amazing special thanks to Stuart on reception for making some arrangements on the night for us very much appreciated we will definitely be back.
Visited my son who also stays in the hotel whilst at work in the area. Great room , comfy bed, wonderful brekkie, great staff, happy hour from 4-6 , clean and tidy but hotel is a little tired. One negative is the £11 per night for car parking . Will definitely stay there again .
Lovely hotel in an excellent location. Staff are friendly and helpful, hotel was excellent and has some character. Just booked another trip to this hotel for my next visit.
As usual the hotel did not disappoint!
Excellent location - so easy to get into the centre of Durham. Hotel room was a bit dated but lots of space and a super king sized bed.
So close to the town.
Good hotel, good breakfast, good location
Very friendly and convenient
Second visit and will stay again! Comfortable beds, spacious rooms, clean bathroom, good food and bar on site. Staff are amazing.
I stayed at the Delta for one night with my husband whilst visiting our son at Durham University. The location couldn’t be better as it is just across the bridge from the Bailey. Our room was very specious, clean, quiet and comfortable and we will definitely book again.
