Provider-sourced guest reviews.
Lovely and quaint property overall. Wonderfully upgraded and appointed room.
Location, large rooms. Breakfast was very good! Happy hour!! Easy walking to restaurants, shopping.
Meilleur emplacement à Charlottetown! Chambre spacieuse. Personnel très courtois et plusieurs petits plus agréables (biscuits maison en après-midi, bière ou vin inclus au 5 à 7 en semaine, …)
Quelques équipements/meubles un peu vieux/désuets dans la chambre, mais quand même très confortable.
Location
Bed comfort could be improved
The location is excellent and close to everything. The best part of our stay was the attentiveness of the staff. Everyone was was helpful and with a smile.
Excellent selection
Location, comfort, breakfast & staff
Nothing. However a little pricy
The property was absolutely beautiful and in an amazing location. The people were fantastic. The amenities were lovely.
The pillows could’ve been a little more comfortable
Great location and comfortable interior. Easy walk to / from the town
The air conditioning was really loud so I had to turn it off at night.
Friendly PEI service right in the heart of old town. Short walk to excellent restaurants.
Nothing to mention
Fabulous hotel, interesting history, and we were extremely comfortable here.
Nothing
Splendid location for touring Charlottetown on foot. Free parking on site. Good service from multinational staff. Our room was large and comfortable with two queen beds. We did not find the breakfast to be very inspired.
A beautiful old building with superb spacious rooms. Staff were amazing, facilities and location excellent. Happy hour was a real bonus!
Nothing, all was fabulous!
The staff, breakfast and accommodations were amazing.
Nothing!!!1
The quaint feel.. Calm vibe. Location was perfect. Parking was good too. The Continental Breakfast was everything anyone would need.
If I have to find 1 thing it was our room was above kitchen and was a little noisy in the early morning.
Beautiful! Serene in style!
Enjoyable stay. Nice superior king room which to our surprise came with a washer and dryer! Second floor walk up, duplex - living room downstairs, bedroom upstairs. We found the evenings street noise (voices) at all hours of the night to be annoying. The windows/walls seem to be thin! Otherwise, nice accommodations.
We were in a sweet little house just behind the main building. It was well equipped and very comfortable, and included a dedicated parking spot, which was very convenient given the scarcity of on-street parking in some parts of Charlottetown. Absolutely ideal location for walking around town.
The screens on two of the windows were in a poor state, and we were unable to leave windows open at night because of them.
We had a wonderful stay at the Great George. The location in Charlottetown couldn’t be better. The room was comfortable and the staff were incredibly helpful and kind. This was the best stay I’ve had at any hotel in years. Staying here was easy and made our visit to Prince Edward Island that much better.
Beautiful property! You can feel the heritage!!
Wonderful location excellent hotel & staff
My wife and I stayed at this historic hotel for two nights as part of a fly-drive vacation of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. The hotel consists of 13 historic houses which have been sympathetically restored and furnished in a very sympathetic manner to the surroundings. Our room, in Wellington House was very comfortable providing everything we needed, although an in-room safe would have been useful. Free car parking is available at the rear of the hotel. Breakfast is served in the main lounge and provided a good range of hot and cold items in a very convivial atmosphere. The hotel is very conveniently located close to all of the main attractions of the town and just opposite St Dunstan’s Basilica. The main shopping area is just a short walk away as is the waterfront which has a selection of shops, bars and restaurants. Should we revisit Charlottetown we would be quite happy to stay at the Great George Hotel.
Great location, charming lobby/ social space, and lovely guest room. Excellent service. Parking can be challenging when the hotel is full. Breakfast is only fair.
La colazione molto povera. Nemmeno le uova fritte!!!
Had an outstanding stay at The Great George. The suite was spacious, spotless and nicely decorated. The breakfasts were perfect, there was a wide selection of yummy items and service was first class. Centrally located , it was very convenient. We highly recommend The Great George for a great hotel experience.
This hotel was originally built in the late 1800's and converted into a hotel in the 1990's. If the idea of staying in an old character building is your jam, then this is the place for you. Rooms were clean and beds were comfortable. If modern amenities is important to you, this is probably not your place. Rooms incredibly stuffy and musty smelling - you cannot open windows. Portable air conditioners were in the rooms to cool down (no a/c) but were very loud and hard to sleep with these running. Bathroom was out-dated and on the small side. beds were great, and towels/robes were fluffy and in good condition. Hotel itself well situated.
The venue was absoultely perfect. The location, security of the building and the beautiful deck for the summer evenings. The service was excellent and we will be looking forward to our next visit. Thank you for making our stay a fantastic experience. Trina
We stayed on the 3rd floor in a Romantic Hideaway suite with its own jacuzzi bath. Staff at check-in were friendly and helped by printing out a voucher from my email, which I had forgotten to do. Our room had air-conditioning and was quite large. Breakfast was good, and fortunately we were able to find a seat each morning. Parking is limited, but again we managed to find a space on each of our 3 days.
The nightly gathering in the lobby with a glass of wine or soft drink .
Iconic building close to Charlottetown restaurants and bars and good access to nice scenery, as well as great for parking. Good base to drive out and see other parts of PEI from.
It is what it is - the historic element of it means it’s a little dated and tired but also part of its ‘charm’. It was good enough as a base to stay and travel out but it wasn’t the perfect stay to be there longer than a couple of days.
My husband and I were on a week long Nova Scotia/PEI vacation driving up From NY. This hotel was definitely a highlight. The inn is so charming. The location is very convenient to the town. The staff is so welcoming and made sure we were satisfied. The King Deluxe room was very comfortable. The deluxe breakfast (buffet style) was delicious . Seating is a little awkward but works out just fine…charming in the common area using couches, arm chairs, sofas and coffee tables. We were even welcomed with a bottle of wine and the famous “cow chips” Only one suggestion.., they offer you a $10 CA gift card to use there or other properties to forgo housekeeping, feel like getting my room refreshed is worth quite a bit more. At the very least they should have a toilet brush in the bathroom so guests can clean since no one is coming in. Awkward to ask for that . All is all a great experience! Highly recommend!
The Great George is located in the heart of Charlottetown and really allows you to experience maritime charm. Great staff and wonderful rooms complete make for a very nice stay.
Excellent service. Great staff. Amazing location. On site parking. Cocktail hour at 5. Free cookies at 3pm. Breakfast included.
No real dining area on site.
This is such a charming hotel! Easy check in, within walking distance of the water, restaurants and the walking paths along the shoreline. The neighbourhood is beautiful - nice walking with large shady trees. We will definitely come again!
The location, atmosphere, and room were great.
The only weak point was breakfast. The available buffet items were adequate (barely), but the seating arrangements were weird - sitting in the big armchairs with breakfast on the small, low coffee tables. But, on balance, I was happy to put up with the breakfast.
Beliggenheden og fri parkering
Indtjekningsprocessen var langsommelig. Værelserne var sent klar. Morgenmaden var besværligt at spise, fra en lav lænestol ved et lavt sofabord.
Incredible newly updated hotel, consisting of several small buildings. Great complimentary breakfast with homemade frittatas and other delights. Very friendly and attentive staff. Central downtown location, easy walk to major sites. Highlight of our visit.
The breakfast selection was very good. Sitting in club chairs and eating off of coffee tables/end tables was not ideal.
The hotel was clean and comfortable but for the cost per night, I was expecting something extremely lavish. Lavish was not the word to describe this hotel. Extremely overpriced.
Great waterfront location with a charming, historic vibe! The hotel and our room were clean, and the bed was very comfy. It is missing a few modern touches like ample plugs and brighter lighting, and the bathroom/shower could definitely use an upgrade. Also, note that the floor AC works well but is a bit noisy at night. That said, the staff were incredibly friendly, and the free perks—like breakfast, coffee, drinks, and fresh cookies—made for a wonderful stay.
Great nights stay at The Great George. Perfect location for exploring Charlottetown!! Our room was spacious, super clean and comfortable. The grounds are charming with various places to sit and relax. Our building had a rooftop patio to enjoy for those staying in that house. Lovely. Staff were also very nice!!
My friends and I stayed the Great George exactly one year ago, and we were all shocked with the decline in service from last year. Our experience couldn’t have been more positive last year; however, this year, sadly, we were not impressed and decided not to book for a future stay. We had booked our return visit based on how wonderful everything was last year, and are now choosing not to rebook based on our poor experience this year. Firstly, the decline in customer service is evident, the front desk staff (with the exception of our check-in with Julie) are slow and uninterested in making your stay welcoming. Asking them for something seemed like a great inconvenience to them, and they are slow and not very responsive. We had issues with our accommodation and we were offered a discount; the person assisting said he would make a note on our file, which didn’t happen. When we mentioned this at check out the next morning, the person assisting us didn’t seem to understand or care. She said she would check with a manager, who she couldn’t seem to locate. After waiting 20+ minutes with no response I said, just forget about it, we need to leave, she gave us a small discount. It took another 20 minutes to process paying our invoice, really unacceptable. Additionally, we found the service team with the breakfast to be of similar slowness and lack of concern. While we appreciate the included breakfast, it took a very long time to replenish food items, and things like coffee, tea, cream/milk and sugar were not replaced frequently enough and we often had to ask for them. There was no soap in the washroom one morning and had to ask to have that replaced. The quality of the food was not as good and the variety not as plentiful as in the past. Finally, we were staying in one of the houses and the power kept going out – we had no air conditioning, hot water, or lights several times throughout our stay. We had at least two employees attempt to fix this, yet, the issue kept happening. This was the reason we were to receive a discount, and upon check out we advise the front desk that this issue should be fixed before the next guests arrived; however, we all left saying that we were sure nothing would happen and I presume the people who checked in after us are experiencing the same issues. We love Charlottetown, and I have been staying at the Great George for many years; however, based on our experience and lack of customer service, we plan on spending our money elsewhere for future trips.
Lovely property in the heart of PEI. Great breakfast, comfortable rooms.
we felt that the hotel's website (who I booked with) was misleading. I booked what was described as a 2 bed heritage house with 2 bathrooms, nearly 6 months ahead of arrival. What we were given was a ground floor apartment, very dark and hot, and only 1 small bathroom. All the windows were extremely close to parked cars or the pavement so blinds were kept closed. Portable air conditioning units were too noisy to use at night Did not get a proper explanation when we emailed the manager either
Great location. Large room. Nice breakfast.
Worn out furniture in room. Desk chair seat material is peeling off. Not in keeping with the class of hotel.
It’s a stunning property in the heart of Downtown Charlottetown PEI
Nothing
We stayed here because reviews were not bad and there are not many nice hotels in Charlottetown. However, we were in one of the annexes this time and they are very old houses and smell old and musty. Very hard if you have allergies. The breakfast was not hot. The cookies and coffee are good. And staff were nice. I don’t think we’d stay here again.
Loved free happy hour drink!
Beautiful. Great extras that made it lovely and comfortable. Location was amazing. The cookies were delicious. The building was beautiful and interesting.
There was a smell in the elevator that was so bad we had to take the stairs. It appeared to be better by the next morning.
Stayed here for a couple of nights. Hotel is a collection of old houses/buildings round a block. We had a room in a building separate from the main hotel. Room was huge- bigger than a friend's flat in London I would say! Very comfortable and well located. Staff were friendly though rushed explanations at check in. Breakfast passable. You eat in thr hotel lobby/lounge. Tables and chairs are low which makes eating a bit awkward. We got car parked ok but when busy there might be a Scramble for places. Not sure it would be a great hotel if you had mobility issues. Luckily we do not and liked it.
Location was great. Room was quiet,
Rooms and furnishing are dated. Parking is limited for the amount of quests at the time we were there. Tables for breakfast could be better. Chairs are much lower than the tables, not very comforatble. In all, furniture in the lobby is outdated. Water pressure in the bathroom was ok at best. Appreciated the Happy Hour but unfortunately the wine being offered though it is for free was horrible.
We have stayed here before a few times and returned for a repeat stay. We were able to check in a little early with a staff member actually calling us back to tell us when our room was ready. We were in the main building. The air conditioning unit in our room was quite noisy whenever it went on the first night so the next morning, we mentioned it to the front desk who indicated they would make a note of this. We were delighted when we returned to our room later that day that a portable AC unit had been hooked up through our window to cool down our room nicely and quietly. We had another issue that was also dealt with quickly and professionally. Every staff member that we interacted with was helpful and pleasant. Kudos to the team! Lots of good quality breakfast options were available (including gluten-free for those needing it). Loved the overnight oats. Also enjoyed the cookies and happy hour! Nice to be able to chill in the relaxing lobby area also.
My husband and I loved the Great George Hotel. We arrived on time for the "Happy Hour" and were pleasantly surprised. The bed was very comfortable and the breakfast was excellent - I was impressed with their gluten free options and they even had lactose free yogurt! Staff for both the happy hour and breakfast were pleasant and very helpful.
The only issue we had was that there were no parking spaces when we arrived but after we spent time at Brackley Beach, we arrived on time to get a great parking spot on our second day.
We had 2 nights after much wrangling, in the main hotel because they had placed us in one of the outlying houses and I cannot do stairs. We picked this hotel because they had an elevator as I am unable to do stairs. We had to transfer to one of their other houses and the place absolutely stinks - literally - of sewage. There are 3 dehumidifiers running constantly and the fan in the bathroom. It's abominable for smell and noisy where we will need to shut them down to be able to sleep. This is NOT a good place if you are not in the main hotel. If you are, then it is good. The breakfasts are excellent.
See above
Very central
Need final little touch…..no milk in the fridge for coffee just “whitener”…. For the price that I paid….! At least some little cups…! And unable to let the curtains open as there is a car park at the widow . Breakfast ok but eating in a living room…. For elderly this is a bit cumbersome…..
Beautiful old house
Nothing
It is actually a set of old buildings in the center of Charlottetown. So rooms can be in different buildings but that is not an issue. Rooms very comfortable and clean. Perfect central location. The only thing is that breafast is served in the lobby, so not everybody can sit comfortably and one has to have breafast sitting on the couch with the low table.
Location Staff were very nice.
The breakfast was lacking. No fruit, plain yogurt for a breakfast bowl, no nuts, oatmeal, maple syrup. No scrambled eggs. Some people don’t like quiche or frittata! Hard to find seating and some areas are awkward to actually eat breakfast because of big chairs and coffee tables. The lobby area needs a refresh. It is dated and stuffy. Very crowded with overstuffed furniture. The room was dark. Bathroom not easy for getting ready in terms of counter space and lighting.
incredibly beautiful historic hotel in a wonderful city
Great location and access to great restaurants.
There is no dining room for breakfast, that means no decent table to put a plate for breakfast. I was surprised to see such a situation at a 5 star hotel.
Great experience. Location, breakfast, bedding, toiletries , free parking, afternoon cookies and drinks all added to a wonderful stay.
Property is a mix of inn and adjacent older townhouses. Our site was the "Dorchester" at the edge of the complex. An older tired Victorian 2BR with kitchen, the entire house to ourselves. Arrived on a hot June day. As others have noted check in staff was not very helpful in explaining the parking and layout of complex. Once in the unit, A/C was not working. Tried turning down. Just got hotter. Maintenance arrived after 10PM and determined units improperly vented to outside recycling heat into unit. Our first night was disrupted until 11 pm for emergency repairs. There is no way unit should have been rented with this potentially dangerous AC installation creating serious heat around drapes and windows. Only concession by management was $75 gift card on a $500 Canadian /night cost, two night stay. If you stay here carefully evaluate the various properties, I suspect others were much nicer than the one we were assigned. Also parking is not adequate for all the sites, on late arrival the lots were full. Otherwise location is excellent for experiencing the best areas of Charlottetown. Breakfast as others have detailed, nothing special and odd seating using the same chairs and sofas as the hotel lounge, balancing food on trays etc.
Breakfast was phenomenal. Lovely heritage hotel in the centre of town. Easy free parking at back of hotel.
This hotel was lovely! The staff friendly and accommodating in every way. The location is great for walking the town. The breakfast was delicious!
Central, always a great stay. We stayed in the historic condo units right on Queen St. Near our favorite hangouts and restaurant.
Great location, and I believe it’s newly renovated. We had a great view of Basilica too.
Nothing
Best location. Right in the middle of all the shops, restaurants and cafes. It’s very clean, good free breakfast, free parking and very nice staff. They also have happy hour too
Charming; awesome location
The set up of the Great George is very original. Many different buildings are incorporated into the hotel. We had an old colonial design home, consisting of a few different apartments. Ours was completely modern with the marvel of heated bathroom tile floors.
I didn't like that I had to wait until 5pm to get my room refreshed. I'm already back from a day of adventuring and want to shower, but I have to wait until someone shows up because there are things that need refreshing in my room (coffee, tissues, etc.) I also wasn't a fan of the way breakfast was served. No tables to sit at, just a living room style layout where you had to eat breafast on your lap.
The old hotel atmosphere is great and the front desk and breakfast staff were excellent. Very comfortable bed.
Our room was much too hot even though we turned down the heat and opened a window to single digit cold outside air. As the hotel is very close to late night bars, the open window created some late night noise from pedestrians leaving the bar. Breakfast was a little disappointing in bread selection, coffee too over-roasted and burned tasting. Although we came down with 2 hours left in breakfast service, the empty fruit salad bowl was never refilled.
Shower dripped
We were located in the Wellington (Pope Room) on the far corner. Quite noisy at times when the recycling lorries come by at 05.30, the church bells 09.00-6.00 and people chatting in the street right by the window. The staff were pleasant and the happy hour and coffee and cookies mid afternoon were a nice touch. Breakfast was a little odd as you had to sit on sofas and balance your food. It was OK. Our room was quite quirky, like staying in a museum. Lots of old furniture, a bit shabby. Fluffy towels in the bathroom and the usual lottery of trying to figure out the shower. Parking on site is available, not necessarily outside your room. There is the option with the 10 dollar voucher if you opt not to have your room made up but you're limited where you can use it. In a good position for exploring the town. I would not agree with the 5 star rating as it didn't have 5 star facilities.
Everything is fabulous at the Inn. I have stayed here many times over the years. It is my home away from home.
The history of te place, the breakfast and the excellent location
A portable ac in Window
Great staff, great location, convenient parking, excellent breakfast ( great coffee).
Nothing
The staff were exceptional in particular Kay
Location and ambiance. Staff
It was ok, nothing special
Having to walk up 3 flights of stairs with luggage to a mediocre room. Rude, unfriendly reception staff.
great location, free parking, very helpful staff. The bed was comfortable and a decent desk for working.
Dreary, shabby room. Dusty furniture, peeling paint, broken screen, poor lighting, one towel rack despite loads of wall space in the bathroom, no hooks for robes, a jutting and dangerous ceiling in the shower as it must have been retrofitted into a gables roof. Breakfast was adequate, but not much of a selection and everything was empty when we came down at 9. It was refilled, but it took a while. This is hardly a 5 star hotel. A 3 star at best and our room should not be in their inventory at all.
Location, internal spaces outside of room, breakfast
External voice outside of corner room, bathroom Light connected to fan rather than two switches, needed coasters in room
L’emplacement, chambre confortable
Le petit déjeuner pas à la hauteur du standing de l’hôtel
I wondered if the price was too good to be true for such a highly rated hotel and it definitely was, as this property is no higher than a 3 star. The staff were certainly gracious and helpful, but the hotel has seen better days. Our room was dreary and in shabby condition. Not sure what the actual vintage of the furniture is, but it looked like it came from a used furniture store. There was a large dresser which also housed the tv that was about 5 feet high. The center portion of the top was dusted, but not the sides at the back, even though it was easy enough to reach. The paint was peeling all down the wall next to one of the windows and we had to kill a bee when we opened a window and didn’t initially see that the screen was improperly installed. Perhaps the worse was the bathroom. A good size but awful. Despite ample wall space, just one towel rack on the bathroom door and no hooks for robes or a place for hand towels. The only shelf for vanity cases was the toilet tank. The shower was under a gabled roof which slanted down right in front of the of the shower head. My husband and I are tall and both of us hit our heads on the sharp edge of the indented ceiling which came down in front of the shower head. Also, there was not a separate switch for the very loud fan which came on if you turned on the bathroom light, regardless if it was needed. If we hadn’t already lugged our suitcases up 1 1/2 flight of stairs and hadn’t been in a rush to get ready for an evening reservation we would have asked for another room. I will say that the bed was comfortable and my husband was happy with the desk, but the lighting was poor. Breakfast was adequate.
Welcoming & generous. Our 25th Wedding Anniversary - Complementary Champagne
Ants in the bedroom! Took several requests to resolve.
A great location close to everything. Parking was easy and included. Clean room with everything you could need including umbrellas. Complimentary tea and coffee all day and delicious cookies on offer in the afternoon. Great breakfast options and they were able to accommodate gluten free. Comfortable beds and a deep bath tub made our stay very comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. Highly recommend!
Nothing
We had an amazing 4 night stay in the Harris House. The central heating was great as was the designated parking spot. The staff from morning until, night couldn't be more helpful. We would definitely return !
The building was beautiful, breakfast was awesome and staff were all very polite and helpful.
The pillows were too high for us, we used towels to sleep on instead. Next time we will bring our won.
It’s a beautiful old building very well maintained. Exceptional sizes and cleanliness to the rooms and the whole building . It is a very central location, easy walking distance to great restaurants and shopping. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The parking lot is a bit in the small side so we parked on the street the first night. It’s a very quiet hotel and I would recommend it to anyone
Beautiful rooms very warm and comfortable
Parking cab be a bit of a issue
Best location and decent breakfast!
Reception staff could've been nicer. Rooms were pretty hot at night - we couldn't figure out the AC. It would turn on every 30 mins or so and it was extremely loud.
Super friendly staff ! The entire hotel has so much character!! Heated floor in bathroom Hardwood floor in guest room No small detail is left out, even complimentary umbrella Complimentary cookies and drink Location is amazing, close to everything downtown

Great breakfast, location is perfect, lovely staff and amenities.
Loved the privacy and atmosphere. The pillows were so good we went home and ordered our own!
Cleaning could’ve been better. The lamps were dusty, the tub was grimy, and the tv constantly flicked on/off while watching
Estupendo todo, con sensación de gran lujo: muy acogedoras las habitaciones y espacios comunes, encantador y servicial el personal, muy práctico el parking
We loved the location and unique atmosphere. The happy hour was a nice highlight and their continental breakfast was next level.
We stayed in one of the hide-away King rooms with the spa tub. The room was so cute and cozy, & the bed was so comfortable. The room was decorated beautifully.
I didn't like that I couldn't find a place to sit in the lobby for breakfast but that can't be helped if there are a lot of guests so it wasn't an issue.
Friendly staff that gave us a beautiful experience, advised us on wonderful dinning establishments.
Nice furniture and friendly and helpful staff . Great location
Heating vent super loud .
